This is the correct and responsible way to introduce pets. Step by step, get them used to scents, face to face thru a baby gate, then face to face! Soon they'll be snoozing on each other!
The big step is to feed them next to each other with the barrier in place so they can get used to eating and having the positive experience next to each other.
This was me 3 months ago after my boyfriend rescued a kitten from the road 😺 I kept him inside a large dog crate when I wasn't home. He had injuries probably from climbing into a car engine 😢 broken leg and jaw and he's blind in one eye. But he's fine and running around like nothing happened ❤️😺
Years ago I adopted a kitten (Ginger) that was just like that with my older cat (Sam). When I introduced them, Sam arched his back and hissed at Ginger. She gave it right back to him. Two days later they ended up trying to play with the same string toy wrapped around a doorway so they couldn't see each other. They suddenly realized they had been playing together and were inseparable after that. Sam took Ginger from me and raised her, playing with, grooming and cuddling her constantly. It was adorable. I miss them both.
Got an 8-week old kitten to go with my 1.5 year old cat. He hissed at the kitten, was ticked off another cat had arrived, but she didn’t care…no fear. Now they’re 16 and 17, still going strong.
Thank you for showing people how to properly introduce cats and kittens to one another. Most people just throw their cats in the same room, and watch them fight, and record it thinking it's funny. It's not. First meetings can have a BIG impact on cats and kittens. It's better to take it slowly.
@@bishplis7226 I'm not going to argue with you. And with a name like bishplis, I can tell you get joy out of spreading toxicity as well as misinformation onto others. Blocked. 🌝
I have never known an example of an adult cat attacking a kitten, unless there are already behavioural issues with the adult animal. The cage is not necessary.
Better to bring them right to each other, each one held by a human who introduces them and gets them close to each other while not allowing any hostile action. If one gets hostile, it gets petted and reassured and rolled on its back so it's impossible for it to feel dominant or even try to act threatening.
@@JFrazer4303 if you pet an animal that misbehaves you're reinforcing that bad behavior. Introducing cats slowly is better, not shoving them together instantly. Most cats will not tolerate an adult or kitten in it's territory/home.

This is definitely the best way to ease the tension of bringing a new cat into your house. Keep the new cat in a separate room for a few days or and let them sniff around the door.
Very different to how an adult dog approaches a puppy, who wants to play with them. They both generally wag their tails and sniff each other, then start playing together.

This video is really good for people thinking about getting a kitten when they already have big cats! It’s a great example of what you need to do and it’s a process that needs to happen organically
Yes it was. I have a stray that adopted me a yr ago. He was about 4 months old when he came in the house. In a week and a half im bringing home a kitten so he isnt lonely when i go to work at night. Thankfully i have several days off so ill have time to slowly introduce them.
That first face to face meeting Haru immediately went into the subservient pose, head down, not making eye contact. They're getting used to new smells and sorting out the pecking order. Far too few cat owners do this the right way and give the animals time to get used to each other as they need to.
I rescued 2 kittens too near a river. It took them about 2 weeks to get used to being around me . I decided to introduce them to my female cat. At first they would always approach her together and try to make her buzz off but she would just stare at them 😂 4 days later they became comfortable in each others company and i think my cat now takes care of them as they r her own.

Having just literally done this with a 7 year old cat and a 4 month old Kitten just over a week ago. My advice is take your time. Create a safe space. Do not introduce at all first. The scent for another cat is quite overwhelming. Swap some items belonging to each after a couple of days. Ignore any hissing as if you tell the cat who is hissing off, it strengthens a dislike for the kitten. Kittens are easy and pretty accepting. Be patient with the older cat. Use treats when the other cat enters the room for the first week. Also feed separately, opposite side of a door if possible. Each cat needs to live without conflict over food. Keep play separate for a while until you see affection like licking and head butts etc. Then try and use toys that engage both. We use the laser pointer, track and ball and we have an electric toy with feather that spins with holes for them both to get. In a short time our eldest Cat went from hissing and batting a bit to being friends and washing her and playing. After 10 days they are very happy thankfully. The video here is great and good advice, you have to just read what they are doing and trust your instincts. You have to be aware as well it can take on average 3-4 weeks for hissing to stop, maybe occasionally longer. As people we can sometimes read it is aggression but most of the time it is just, I want space, I don't know you or trust you yet, stay back. If you follow the rules and for me the key ones are separate feeding, play, no cat nip for a while as it can bring slight aggression, keep trays clean and have them separate then alot can be overcome fast. You need to give the kitten as safe zone. One room at the start as well that it has room to play, snuggle and adapt. Most of all just love them and give it time. The average time for a cat to build a relationship is between 8 to 10 months. So go in and expect it not to be all rosy at the start. With the right attitude it will come good.
Aww....the cutest part was at the very end Haru looking up at Mom like "Well aren't you gonna DO something here and help a kitty out??? You didn't tell me it was so rough out there in the world!" 🥰

When I have a new tiny one who is so frightened, I will pet each cat with a different hand, speaking gently. I'm old and have had dozens of animals: they respond well to tender voices.
Sending blessings for dear Haru. He will bring you much happiness for many years. 💫🐈🙏🇰🇷💞🎇🌏
I just love it when the kitten does the hump back. Like he is telling like I am not scared of you.
This is the beginning of them being playmates actually 👏👏just LET THEM DO IT... IT'S COMPLETELY NATURAL 😻😻
The fact that the kitten feels safer near human than the big cat is really interesting.
Haru is getting bigger! Such an adorable kitten!

2:42 cat life is rough... "who are you, kid" *hard stare*
Oh my, Yuni chirping at Haru, like "Danger! Kitten alert!!" Meanwhile Haru's unique tail all puffed up like a dandelion lol
the music makes it 10 times better
BRAVO!!!! YOU GUYS DID A WONDERFUL PERFECT JOB WITH INTRODUCING YOUR BEAUTIFUL CATS!!! I'M SO VERY HAPPY TO SEE THIS AND TO SEE ALL OF THE LOVE YOU GIVE TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL CATS!!!! GOD BLESS U!!!!🙏🙌👏👍♥️😻🙏👏♥️
Cats need their own litter box. When introduced. 😊❤
When Haru walked away from Yuni, Yuni blinked slowly, which means the big cat was cautious but not angry.
5:00 toughest staring contest ever 😂😘
So very cute. Very. Thank you so much for sharing the video. I miss kittens so much. Blessings
Wao kucingnya besar sekali bosku, kucing yang cantik dan super lucu 👍😻❤❤
Kittens are angels sent down to earth to test mans kindness.
There are no angels. So there goes THAT theory.
@@markbeames7852 Why because you say so.. or you dont believe.
@@paisteplayer1040 angels do not exist. Period.
@@markbeames7852 Glad you set that straight.
Bebe gato explorando todo.Sabe q papa lo esta viendo.❤❤❤❤🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🍼🍼🍼🍼🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌿🌿🇪🇨🌿🌿
I was mesmerized watching this! Instead of the funny cat videos so numerous on the internet, this was a real look at how cats interact initially. Thank you for making this video. Please make more!
Our nimble Yuni and lovely Soni.. Seeing them after such a long time.
Grazie video spettacolare meriti un iscrizione
ㅋㅋㅋ큰고양이는 등치도 큰데 무서워 하는게 너무 귀엽고, 작은 고양이는 겁나서 집사 옆에 꼭 붙어 있는게 넘 귀여워요 ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
I am so delighted that you have other cats. It really gives the big cats a new interest in their lives!
7:24 Yuni "I`m the big boss here, remember that..." 😂
Purfect kitten
So cute to see how Haru interacts with Yuni and Soni, hopefully they’ll be best of friends soon 😊
هدا الحيوان اللطيف يبهرني بكل مايفعل والفظول وحبه للمغامرة 😂شيء مميز ❤😻😻😽😽
1:06 Soni seems to be reluctant.
Fat ass cat
They're, beautifull, compassionate owner, caring, for a tiny rescued kitten, aswell, they're well cared for.
Haru is adorable. I’ll be getting a second cat so now I know what to expect.
Good cat care - I love this good home for kitties!
Poor Haru was so nervous. 😭
It’s so good to see Yuni and Soni again! 🥰🥰🥰
Aaaah you are doing it like they do it in the Zoo. First smell, then See behind Bars, then Meet. Great 😆👍
