- That Pedal Show's Dan and Mick along with Tore's help set out on a quest to recreate the uniques tones of Dan's beloved vintage Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble and the results are stunning - 70s modulation for the win!
Run an overdrive in front for even grittier results.

No better way to sell these pedals than watching these tone print creation videos. Nice job, Tore.
It's Classic Alex Lifeson Tone. I Love seeing Daniel - just Hone-In on Every Nuance of the Tone. He had a "Radar-Lock" on every Pitch Movement, Rate, Depth, LFO, Waveform - I Love his Passion. At least I am Not Alone - with my Obsession for This Stuff !!! Daniel was Relentless and Would-Not-Stop until he got it Near-Perfect. Gotta Luv the Guy.
Mick's face when Dan says "A little bit deeper" hahahaha 26:38
Kyle Karich He was like 😏😏
Dan and Mick toneprint, I'm in, how can it not be great!
Micks face when Dan says 'a little bit deeper' 26:38
h o w i e about to write the same thing. Lol
h o w i e hilarious! 😂😂😂
Man, was about to say the same thing 😂
I already have 7 tc pedals and now I am going for the 8th... Nice job guys!
Thanks, Nikos!
Tore's face after talking out loud at 22:44 : "we have to develope a new pedal: Corona Chorus plus overdrive"
Whenever D&M show up, the video time increases. :D
You’ve got to do Dans Original EHX electric mistress!!!
Just taken delivery of the Corona mini and tried a few excellent Toneprints. Dan's is my favourite! Excellent.
Now we just need a Dan and Mick Echo print for the flashback and a reverb for the hof!
you influenced them well .... they did the hof2 !!!!
You rang? 😉 ua-cam.com/video/SuWs7MSCLTc/v-deo.html
Awesome!!!
Ok, this was cool! This is the way how to make a good toneprints.
Yeeees! That was awesome, guys. Tone Print sounding really great! Cheers!
Totally fascinating to listen to how a toneprint is created. So much fun too. 👌🏻
Finally indeed! It's looong overdue for That Pedal Show™ to get some bloody TonePrints out there!
I've been intending to buy a Corona chorus for quite a while now. I can now say it's on order due to Dans Broken Ensemble
Thanks, Colin! 🙂
This was an awesome video!
Good stuff I like all the modulation talk
Fab job guys, I can’t believe how close you got to that messed up old chorus. Really pleased to see the MojoMojo wheeled out. It’s one of my favourite pedals
Thanks, Matthew 🙂
Tore literally blew my mind explaining the difference between triangle and sine waves and how it affects the pitch modulation. 😮
Some reall great tone
Gosh i had missed this episode.
Great one! Unbelievable sound and Dans hearing is outstanding.
BTW. MojoMojo is one of the best pedals i ever got. Even in my clean tones it's magical.
FYI, the vibrato mode doesn't kill the dry signal on a fully functional CE-1. It just changes the LFO from triangle to sine, and gives you access to separate depth and rate controls. The dry signal is indeed still blended with direct. That's why Dan's 'broken' vibrato mode sounds like a flanger as he moves the depth knob... because there is a delayed signal being blended with the dry signal. It's just not modulating by itself in this case. When run in stereo, the dry and wet signals stay separate on both chorus and vibrato modes. Also... the breakup you hear from the chorus in the CE-1 isn't only coming from the preamp.. but from overloading the BBD chip from within the chorus circuit. So while it sounds very similar to putting an overdrive pedal in front, the CE-1 is actually blending the clean signal with a chorus signal which is clipping from overloading the BBD chip! Cool video nonetheless :-)
Thanks for the info, Olly!
Now I want a CE-1
Dans brain is bigger than everyones, ears like a sonar. Great vid guys got it deeper😃
I kept thinking Dan was gunna play def Leppard 🤘. Brilliant video, thank you
That was very cool. Now I've got a urge to jam some classic Rush!!
You and me both, Peter!
Wonderful to show the process of the Tone Print.
Boy oh boy Tore is a pleasure watch. You certainly look like you're kicking back having fun.
If you fellows find your way back to Denmark maybe you could try an echo for the Flashback/Alter Ego? Or try and model the Electric Mistress?
This has been my favourite vid for quite a while. Fabulous work guys.
I had one of those CE-1s when they first came out. Made the mistake of running it in stereo on either side of the stage. Made the lead singer in the middle of the stage nauseous. ;-) At the end of the 1st night had to reset it to mono.
Thanks guys, great insight into this pedal! Thinking about what Dan says about the Boss preamp, I bet it always distorts the guitar a bit creating some extra upper harmonics (like the old Aphex Aural Exciter). Feeding those harmonics into the pre-emphasis for the analog BBD delay probably adds to that jangly tone.
Just astonishing. Thanks for this. Now I finally must get a Corona Chorus. In addition to being great, like all TC pedals, they're really reasonably priced. :)
I actually use a MojoMojo for my 'clean' sound, as it is pretty clean up to 9 o'clock on the gain dial when using my strat with standard single coil pickups. I'm surprised that Tor would even attempt to emulate the classic Ensemble, but it shows how versatile the Corona chorus pedals are.
It's so amazing how you take the words and convert it to pedal language Tore. What a great sound. So how many people just bought a Corona Chorus?
hahahahahaha..... Henning moment at 15:51..... THIS was fun to watch..... i want a FB X4..... very impressed at the accuracy and ability to emulate the "old gear" !!!!
Well, I don't about you guys, but I bought one ❤
PS: I got the Hall of Fame, Flashback and HyperGravity as well. The toneprint factor just makes these pedals a no brainer for me.
Dan's talking physics, Tor's talking physics, and Micks wondering what's for tea ;)
😅
Ce-1: Coolest pedal ever. I’d recommend the Analogman stereo true bypass and input impedance mods for anyone (like me) who luckily comes across one
This was as fun as enlightening. Now you should do the "last prawn" tone print 😂
Thanks for pointing out the 50/500 k. pot detail ;-)
The three of you should have regular shows together.
Brilliant. From 22:00 onwards it's like Spirit of Radio.
Dan here, Mick here, Tore here
Mick’s smirk at 26.41 when Dan asks for it a little deeper.
😆
Amazing! this is something I´ve always wanted to see done with the toneprint function, make TC pedals sound like other rare pedals. I´ve tried to create a toneprint in my HoF mini that sounds like the 25 Hall preset in the Alesis midiverb II but it didn´t really worked out that well :P
Keep on pluggin' my friend!
I think Dan has unintentionally exposed a huge part of Dean Deleo's guitar tone
All very good, a part for Mick's pink Converse
😅😉😅
Tore is a very nice guy and handsome I must say shhhh! xD
Sempre som de primeira aqui. Abraços e bends
I think it's about time TC makes some kind of midi-enabled multi-effect pedal kinda like the H9 (maybe not as expensive though). Where you can buy the different modules and then download toneprints or make your own presets.
I know this is about the TonePrint, but the MojoMojo is a damn fine pedal, I love mine. Dan and Mick, get one on TPS.
Its a brill pedal, hey if its good enough for Paul Gilbert its good enough for me too.
Just want the corona for this video haha
Awesome video :) Now you just need a big "Download Overdrive" button on the toneprint page. (and have it redirect people to a Eduard Khil song or something)
ahh the old boss chorus secret, triangle wave!
I loaded this toneprint today, and love it but what is the tone control doing? It seems to add/remove the dry signal?
I miss Tore 😢
Ha! I just bought a s/h Corona just to get Dan's TonePrint. It's fab!! The cheapest way to get the Boss Chorus Ensemble sound.
Awesome, Kevin!
It's analog dry through but can you turn off dry with the mix knob?
Have Dan and Mick tried the Fender high power twin Joe Bonomassa amp?
Did Tore have a smug smile at around 13:00 almost saying, "yeah, I know… quick hide my true feelings! Woop!"
Anything with the Pedal Show is never a short video lol
Holy shit, I always only use the modded Arion, but now I gotta try the mini with this. The reason is, usually, every chorus cuts too much lows, but that sound at 18:50 sounds nice and deep, at least via YT.
The horse has bolted but... the waveform probably needs to be "hyper-triangular"... a sine wave with the top half flipped down... inverted. This is get's to the changing gradient causing pitch shift. The hyper-triangle is also found on the Elec Mistress. Your ears hear a pitch shift that races up and down then slows, then races up again etc. If the Corona can do hyper-triangular.. you have cracked it. Another peculiar thing about the hyper-triangle... if you slow it down or reduce its amplitude (depth) it starts to look like a sine wave. Speed it up, or increase depth and it starts to look like a steep sided triangular wave. This explains away the CE-1 different "voices" depending on where the single control is set. Tone-Print Part 2 coming up?
Nice video. Mick, that’s a nice watch you wearing, which one is it ?
Tore, when is the Roland Juno Chorus pedal releasing?
So I'm 14 minutes in and I just learned that Mick is actually a Dan Tone Print, but the transfer rate is only 2400 baud. Talk about old school! 17:32 it almost sounds like there is a harmonic element to the tone in the CE-1
Does the corona mini have analogue dry through?
Could this not be done with a flashback with a short or zero delay time and then use the saturation to add the grit?
Matt A. Johnson I’ve made a chorus with zero delay so yep. Set kill dry on. Then start experimenting with the different modulation effects. One thing I can’t fix is it makes it darker which I don’t like so much. I don’t have any high cut on or anything. Think it’s just built into the algorithm.
I just sold my Corona Chorus to get a Stereo Chorus Flanger. Nothing wrong with that though. :)
tc electronics x gigrig switcher coming? Please make a big version with 12 loops :)
Do you need both pedals to get that sound or will it work with just the chorus? (I've never tried "Toneprint"...)
Also tried the Boss CE-1/2 reissue- returned that too- my Ibanez CS9 modded sounded a bit better.
On 7:20 I have a strong feeling that Mick was striving not to yawn... (like me) :PPP
That's definitely what that face is, yes! 😄😅
And the toneprint for Dans Original EHX electric mistress????
Programmable toneprint and true bypass in the whole line...gotta catch em all!
What amp is that??? Blues deluxe??
Correct me if I'm wrong, but pitch has nothing to do with the type of wave. Pretty sure it's the rate of cycles of the wave that may change and so the pitch.
Mick’s strat.... wow
It's actually our strat, and it is indeed amazing! From the fine gentleman at: hansen-guitars.com/
Tone print is such a game changer.. I'd love to see a 'blank' tone print pedal, (call it the 'Assimilator.') Three switches - all modulation effects (Chorus/Vibe/Phaser) that can all be edited via tone print.....
You can in face change a chorus into a vibrato or a flanger using TonePrint Editor, so that's a good start 🙂
TC Electronic - it is, the tech is there. Be nice to have all three in one box and all fully editable and interchangeable. So if I want three chorus sounds I can change under foot I can have that.. You guys are killing it in price, tech, and quality, but it seems like you’re holding back.
I wish it for give away
So...tc is gonna make a multi mod pedal with chorus, flange, vibrato, univibe, tremolo, harmonic tremolo and phaser? With analogue dry.
Let's see - that's a lot to promise! 🙂
TC Electronic better beat EHX to it. Plus you are most of the way there with the Dreamscape. Actually just making a trem, univibe, phaser. To compliment it. With some Mash would be great.
@@tcelectronic A mini version with two knobs please. :-S
Eventide does not use analog drive through. They have a good reputation and I believe use exceptional converters. I wonder if that's the problem with other pedals.
and I don't even consider to buy one the stuff they make, I would feel something wrong in it, even if there is nothing wrong!
Dans Broken Ensemble, but not too broken to Go Deeper! 😂
"that's what she said"...HAHA. Mick, you missed a couple of more right after that one!!!!
Make them create one for hypergravity
Mick the subtle clown...lol Funny stuff.
Hi, is it also available for the Dreamscape? Thx!
It is!
TC Electronic awesome ... gotta check it out :)
TC Electronic Downloaded it and love it.
30:40 Black Hole Sun ?
15:47 Henning Pauly would be proud of this episode
brian may had these in his rig back in 1985
The corona or the ce1?
@@rainerwinkler1026 ce1
Why didnt you use a G2 for the switching?
Not enough space in the handluggage, I guess 😅 And we're ashamed to say that we don't have one lying around a TC HQ. A bunch of Quartermasters, but not a G2 ... yet!
Thanks wish I bought a CE-1 when I had the chance
product ideas???
😉
I KEEP HITTING THUMBS UP, BUT CAN ONLY DO ONE :(
You'll have to right them in comments. I'll get you started ... 👍🙂
I had to unlike it just so that I could like it again.
same lol!
😅😄
26:38 "a little bit deeper" -> grin :D
oh - h o w i e was faster :P
Can't even make a short video on someone else's channel!
Better not let Source Audio hear how important you think analog pass through is!
"The Salmon Mousse!"
Oh b******s - now I'll have to buy a TC Corona !
Tore didn't know what a JC120 was?!
the pitch modulation is reversed. the corona is bending the note up, the ce1 is more of a release. weird.
mike blue I noticed that, good call 👍
JC120 ... Synthesizer? Egads!
