This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this colorful landscape image of "Morning Rise Rooster" with acrylic paint. You'll learn simple painting techniques that will help you to create this beautiful farm bird perched on a wooden post and rail fence in front of stunning rolling hills that are being drenched by the morning's sunshine popping over the horizon. You'll learn how to create dimension in the skies atmosphere, on the land, and with the fence using size and color shifts. This confident cock is ready to start crowing to let everyone know that the sun is rising and it's time to wake up! You'll learn to paint realistic feathers, a perfectly proportioned body and a crown with great texture. Using only 3 brushes and 8 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece with a crisp autumn feel and a radically rocking rooster. So let's get painting and let's get sipping!

Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1/2 flat bristle (large), #7 round (medium), #0 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, burnt umber (brown), deep yellow, cobalt blue, fluorescent orange, green oxide, fire red
Other: #2 pencil, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. #2 pencil - Draw outline for the hills
2. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint the sky with white, yellow, orange, blue and brown
3. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint the land with brown, green, yellow and white
4. #7 round brush - Paint the 1st layer of fence with black
5. #2 pencil - Draw outline of rooster
6. #7 round brush - Paint 1st layer of rooster with black
7. #7 round brush - Finish the fence with brown, orange, yellow, white and black
8. #7 round brush - Paint grass at bottom of fence with black, brown and green
9. #0 round brush - Finish painting legs and feet with black, brown and white
10. #7 round brush - Paint 1st layer of body and tail feathers with blue, green, red and white
11. #0 round brush - Paint beak and eye with red, black, white, yellow and brown

You are very correct it is called waddle the top is the comb. It's chicken feed which is called scratch. It's consist of ground corn and stuff. They also eat all kinds of bugs, grass and such. They also love to eat eggs that have been broken but if you left them do that they will learn to break the eggs by pecking at them so you always want to clean broken eggs up as soon as you can. Their diet is pretty wide range you also want to give them a supplement such as oyster shells for the calcium. That helps too make the egg shells strong and hard.
That's right, I forgot that. I was caught up in the moment of painting!

I had alot of chickens, my girls I called them and they gave me the most beautiful eggs. Anyway I also had a couple of roosters which they would start crowding before the sun came up. They would go to roost about dusk and I'd close their door for the night and before it even started getting light out they were crowing their little hearts out.But since I locked them up at night they wouldn't wake us up when they started. But when I'd open their door they all would shoot out of the hen house and really let loose on the crowing.
I had chickens, never any roosters. Maybe one day!

Hello Michelle. I hope you find my painting that I have sent you. I am amateur painter and never had a class. I am 53 and swore off being able to draw a stick person until I was 50. I learned this about myself during a very hard life change. I am proud painting saved me. I find your work inspiring and so easy to follow. As you can see I did struggle with my tail feathes and embarrassed to say I did this painting over 13 times. Lol. It was a gift for someone. Once I told her it was a gift my overthinking took over and I tried to master your painting. Forgetting that I can be creative too. Long story short. Yesterday I painted the bird/fence/tulip picture. I was thrilled with the results. It is only my 4th painting and I thought it turned out fairly well. My husband liked it too. I like that you let us print out the picture so we have that as a reference. Really helped me. Thank you so much!

Did this one last night with a group of fun friends on zoom. I had sent them all paint kits first and we spent 4 lovely hours together creating our masterpieces. You make it easy to create something satisfying without having any prior exposure to painting.
