- VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to draw and paint this dreamy fantasy figure animal portrait of "UNICORN AND FAIRY" with acrylic paint. You'll learn simple drawing and painting techniques that will help you to create this magical picture of a fairy hanging from the horn of a unicorn in an imaginary fairytale world. This inspirational beautiful little lady, with her beautiful butterfly wings and flowing dress, uses her powers and imagination to create fairy dust and bubbles floating through the air while she playfully dangles from the majestic unicorn’s horn. Lit by a warm glow and surrounded by mystical bubbles and sparkles of all different sizes, this tiny-winged princess and mythical horse engage one another in a spiritual and light-hearted encounter. The contrasting colors of pink, soft grey, and white add to the ambiance of the tranquil natural oasis. You will first learn how to create an inviting background that will set the mood for this good-natured and divine image, then you will draw outlines for both the spritely gingerly girl and the enchanting stallion, followed by painting the base coat for both your woman figure and equine, then you'll add shadows and highlights on these fantasy creatures for good dimension, and you'll end with whimsically placing fairy dust and bubbles all over. Wings, fur, eyes, a horn, each of these important elements necessary to create this enchanting narrative storybook image will be taught to you with easy steps to follow. STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint background with black, brown and white
2. Chalk - Draw outline of unicorn
3. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint unicorn neck and chest with black, grey (made in step #1) white and yellow
4. #1 round brush - Paint facial features with black, brown, grey, white, and yellow
5. #8 round brush - Finish face with black, grey, brown and white
6. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint mane with black, brown, white and light yellow (made in step #3)
7. #8 round brush - Paint horn and ears with light yellow, white, black, pink and brown
8. #1 round brush - Paint base coat for fairy with brown, pink, yellow, white and black
9. #1 round brush - Finish fairy with pink, brown, black, white, magenta (made in step #8) and skin tone (made in step #8)
10. #8 round brush - Paint bubbles and sparkles with pink and white
11. #1 round brush - Sign with magenta

Michelle, I too made a painting from this tutorial and it came out spectacular. I’ve never successfully drawn or painted animals, let alone a unicorn with any realism. Yet, somehow, your instructions were a breakthrough for me. Thank you! Instead of the bubbles, I put a stanza for a poem for my new baby granddaughter in the blank area and wrote the rest around the canvas edges. It’s now hanging in her nursery and an heirloom for her. You’re a great teacher!

Hi Michelle. First off let me start by saying how much I enjoy your tutorials. I've done many of them over the past few months and they have all turned out (in my opinion) rather well.
I am struggling VERY hard with the ears on this image... it's been 3 weeks now and I still cannot get them to stop looking like horns. I can't seem to get the angle correct. do you have any tips/suggestions I might try. I really want to move on with another of your tutorials, however I would love to finish this one first.

Hi Jacqueline, thank you so much for watching my videos. It's a little hard to help without really visually seeing what's going on, but I always think of a leaf when painting animal ears, making sure to give it a slight curve towards the tip and adding highlights and shadows to give it form and texture.
