I am Dutch and every year in september I am in Arnhem and its vicinities and pay hommage to the brave men of H.M. forces who fought, bled and died in Arnhem en Oosterbeek. My Wife's Great Great Great Grandfather held General Wolfe in his arms as he lay dying on the plains of Abraham at the battle of Quebec. He is in a famous painting of this event. He was a Colonel in a highland regiment that fought there.
Wolfe was beloved by the Highlanders because whilst serving in the British Army he'd refused to murder a wounded Highland soldier after the Battle of Cullodon. His punishment was to be sent to the Highlands, but word of his decency got there before him and he was treated well.

The patriotism hangs in silence, much like the mist upon a green English hill on a British autumnal afternoon. We will always remember our love for our country no matter what evil forces happen to be at play to distract us from this. Each and everyone one of us has this duty and it is between us and within us that the fabric of this nation exists, and it will exist for generations to come as long as we galvanise the spirit of being in love with ones country and owing to defend her at every opportunity. May god protect us and our country, forever and always.
No matter our race, no matter our ethnicity, no matter our gender, no matter who we are, we are all one people in this country. One country under the Union Jack and the King. We are either part of its history or we plan to be, but we are all its future. We must unite. We must not be divided. We must keep the traitors shut up and we must be bold. The enemy is close outside and deep within. Yet we must be resolute. We must be like Britain herself. Britannia paves the way for how we should act. We must stand against the invaders time and again, like Britain withered under the Blitz. Britain won in the end. We will win in the end. We will win. Because we have our country close to our hearts.

I am Australian and agree with your comment. In both WW1 and WW2 Australian forces fought side by side with Britain. Most aussies have no idea the loyalty we had for Britain back in those days.
Canada Australia and New Zealand were always first to join Britain in war and made a hell of a contribution.

I can say for sure that england and the United Kingdom of Great Britain was the first modern "country" or "union of countries" to be formed in the world and the sense of being "english" was the oldest nationalistic spirit in the modern world. It is really amazing that for the British we are able to communicate with each other even though our mother tongues may be different.
