- How does Spoon improve the 400HP FK8 Type R driving feel? Behind the scenes of parts Development & testing...
Join us as we go with Spoon Sports to a circuit test session to see exactly how parts are tested for the all-important setup and development of street parts for Honda sports models. In this video, we speak to Daisuke Jomoto the R&D manager of Spoon on the rationale behind their philosophy of tuning.
While car manufacturers use technology to improve handling dynamically, could it have also taken out the fun factor of driving experience in older models? The example here is the latest Civic Type R FK8 which uses electronically controlled dampers to inhibit body roll. While the tech works to make an overall better handling car, it also reduces the driver involvement which is one of the reasons why we drive sports cars in the first place.
Most major manufacturers employ the help of professional racing drivers to provide accurate feedback for development so that we as regular drivers can feel a more rounded and enjoyable drive.

Most underrated UA-cam channel imo. Please don't ever stop
I couldn't agree more!
agreed!
"A lot of technology is not always the way forwards" - really good quote, definitely applies to car enthusiasts who understand about the feel of driving. Modern cars are too easy to drive fast and disconnect the driver from the car, not a good thing in my opinion. Keep up the great content
The future of cars is based on skill, not feel. Older cars are for feel...newer cars are for pushing the limits of what we can do
Power is Nothing Without Control

YOOOOO When he speaks in Japanese he’s only dropping wisdom! On the GT Channel they made him speak English, this is so much better! Love your content! Keep it up!
I’m glad two see SPOON taking this awesome type r to the next level
Yup, I agree that sometimes, we need a fun-to-drive car instead of a fast car.
I kind of understand that from playing Gran Turismo 4, driving slow cars like Honda Fit or Toyota Vitz Turbo with fully-upgraded handling.
It's more fun that way.
Glad I got the Notification
Love when you visit tuners and talk to them about what (and why) they do. Always a pleasure to watch your content!
Absolutely my favorite channel on UA-cam, aside from the Best MOTORing channel.
your content is amazing and deserves more views.
Keep the content coming man very legit recent videos
That’s awesome keep the fk8 content coming! It would be great to get into the real details of this build!
Love the content, new subscriber here, thanks for sharing and salutes from Medellín Colombia
Yes! JDM masters is back in my Subscriptions feed!
plz do full review on it, i really enjoy the way you explain everything
I started watching your videos few days ago and I must say. You cover awesome cars. I love your channel. I see you cover a lot of Honda’s. Every thought doing something Toyota’s, like Toyota Altezza Tom’s 280T or some of the rare TRD cars like 2000GT
Love my FK8!
I agree they provide the most in depth and smart reviews. The way it should be.
I glad that i found your channel. Because i am a JDM Fans & could understand your video as it is in English language. Your channel could reach JDM Fans outside Japan. Keep up the good work!
Hi there ✌🏼
Thanks a lot for these under estimated programs!
These is really deep dives into Gran Turismo ADN.
We thrust Spoon philosophy to make sports cars even funnier to drive.
Thanks.
From France with passion 🙏🏼🇨🇵😎
Loved the video! That jacket is 🔥 by the way!
I would really like to see Spoon tuned Hondas in Forza
Love ever video keep making awesome content
Nice vid fella!
Good stuff! 👍🏻
Awesome video!! Yes, please take the car out for a test and make a video about the car and it’s set up. Would like to know more about all the parts on the car, the tune, and what wheels they are using. Thank you
Got the notification! 😁
unpopular opinion: lost in translation when 3 way suspension adjustment were discussed as it seemed to be misunderstood as "3 modes" (comfort/sport/track) as opposed to high speed compression/low speed compression/rebound (modes are a wee bit oversimplifying it imho)
Awesome 👍😎
FINALLY GOT A NOTIFICATION! UA-cam finally fixed their services for your channel, what a joke youtube!
I noticed the tail lights for the JP FK8 doesn't have reflects (the black portion) while the US models does. I saw a few videos of Spoon installs for the front and rear bumpers on a US FK8 and needs some modification (the front crash bar is thicker than then JP FK8s).
Sure it is fast, but is it fun? Lots of car manufacturers today forget this and just focus on data and figures they can boast about. Thats why i love Spoon and how they build their cars.
Exactly. It's difficult to get excited about newer models that keep adding horsepower to compensate for curb weight, electronic dampening, etc. As long as those safety restrictions exist in the west, we won't see fun and economical enthusiast stuff anymore unless worked over by SPOON, FEED, SPIRITS, etc and then imported.
read any review of the Fk8 and its the best driving in its class
@@ShaiyanHossain Yes they do say that. But you skip out what they also say when compared to previous Type R. They happily take an EK9, DC2, FD2RR, or a Spoon EG6 even if its not "Type R". Not because of nostalgic reasons. Its because of the rawness and fun they give to the driver. Its the feeling of you driving the car and not the car drive for you. Its the reason MX5 still sells even with an underpowered engine. Watch the review of Chris Harris on the flagship hybrid Ferrari car and you will know what I mean.
I love this channel. And i'm thinking of being one of the members.

Dream car... Fd owner here.
could you make a video for honda fit ge8? im curious spoon development on ge rs. here in malaysia, honda fit/jazz will no longer be available for newer lineup. they are replacing the fit with the new city hatchback. just wondering if i should keep my ge8
Hi Sir, could you please tell about the Intercooler that Spoon use to FK8 and FK7? Or it is still using stock?
Thank you ! Greeting from Indonesia
Notification squad!
That ek9 tho 😍
finally i got the notification
Nice
What suspension is on the car? Electronically adjustable Coilovers? Or just shocks and lowering springs? What are they using?
great car
I recommend using the Sennheiser wireless lavalier mic's. That Rode mic looks massive on your collar.
The fk8 could be a future classic for sure
After the heavy modification are the car can for daily used?.
Yes. It can be used as a daily.
the sound of the honda on background is nice and strong like drag mile honda, spoon puts a lot of effort and is good to challenge other motor brand, fast fk8 no need for gtr34, that 400 hp feels like 500 gtr, in my country weather now is cold and suitable for night run.
Is their suspension kit in co-development with KW ?

Are you going to release again the video on R34 driving ?
Hey im already watch this
It would be amazing to see An tour on Mugen
What power mod does this require to achieve 400hp range?
Let us see a fk8 ctr parts catalog video!!!
i FUCKIN love the Ek civic ... SOOOOO much :)
1992- Honda Accord CB7... please make a car review :)
That rear bumper makes the car look much much better
Since Spoon's have a close relationship with Honda, can we direct a question to Jomoto-san (?) on why then Honda decided on a 20" for stock instead of 18? If the overall sporty package is really that much better with the 18 (and more widely available and reliable), then why did Honda choose a wheel and tire setting that is so specific to certain types of time attack racing?
the 20"s are there to reduce torque steer afaik
but marketing team probably had a play too lol
@@ShaiyanHossain if you run the spec through Will It Fit or Wheel Size Calculator, you should see that it has something to do with having zero scrub radius with the measurements of the wheel/tire and the suspension arm. If you substitute the main measurement of 20" to 18" the goal towards zero scrub is still achievable
For Nurburgring set up
Interesting he mentions the Spoon car rolls more than the stock version. Looked pretty flat in the footage for a hatch through the corners to me! Jeez, how stiff is the stock car?!
Spoon gets it.
Link to the jacket
Reuploaded?
Hey JDM Masters!
Please do an Episode on the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo (1996 - 1999) and the Mitsubishi FTO Version R in Manual (1997 - 2000)!
Please do not overlook these two Japanese underrated Gems.
Honestly Spoon needs to replace the factory ecu with a Motec M142 on their fk8.
the japanese captions did not work for me. maybe check back later
I need your jacket. How can I find it?
Haven't I watch this episode before??
Please put subtitles for translation for non English parts
Please turn on CC. United States for English subtitles
Another warm hatch?
Why is an FK8 so freaking scary while braking around a corner at 140mph?????
She wants you to _feel it._
That's why.
It's an FF. You are entering too fast.
Spoon goes *_Nyoom!_*
laughing as if it's a big bloom
Heart's content is expressing a loud vroom
Valve timing still standing
In rising days of Turbo spooling
Winding up to near perfection
Regardless of the situation
All of the best are given devotion.
Wish I could write, read, and speak 🇯🇵
GR Yaris, please. Spoon Sports has captured the essence of real driving. Excellent.
Hey Spoon, you need some explaining to do on why your Spoon FK8 driven by DK was defeated by SYMS Racing WRX STI.
They did in a later Touge Battle episode. That was due to DK's very violent style of braking. In a modern, more drive-by-wire car like the FK8, DK's heavy late braking into Turn 1 of Tsukuba exceeded the safety margin of the braking system, so the car did not react exactly to his commands, but eased into braking. Spoon told DK about it, and DK subsequently adjusted his braking technique with their car in that Touge episode.
i wish i can understand what hes saying
This will eat A45 AMG for breakfast
how can we understand Japanese? :)
By turning on the C.C Fatihcim.
@@JDMMasters ben ingilizce alt yazı ile izledim. çevirmedi.
We need English subs
They are there, you have them turned off..
I'm so confused! Are you GT Channel or JDM Masters :(
people keep looking sport parts.
people want sport absorber and spring. later complaint stiff.
people want big sport wheel. then complaint car feel heavy.
people want sport body kit. but not realize the design is useless. just for look.
Its got spoon engines in it
Hurry up and send me my exhaust which i paid for please Spoon.. ive been waiting 11 weeks 🤦🏼♂️
JDM Numba Won! ☝️
albo has slightly better quality.
You can’t understand the explanation the guy is giving cause it’s in Japanese!!!
Hey young human… your delivery needs some work but thanks for the FK8 info 😊… so I just wanted to say thank I just saw that the video is over 3 years old 😬😬🥱
