  • Stuck inside on lockdown and crave something from the McDonald’s breakfast menu? Maybe a McMuffin? Well, you might have all the ingredients at home already. This is how to make an easy DIY sausage and egg McMuffin. You will need:
    Ingredients:
75g Sausage meat (extracted from 1 sausage of your choice)
    1 egg
    1 American cheese slice
    1 English muffin
    Some butter for spreading
    1 frozen hash brown
    Oil for frying
Some water for steaming the egg
    Method:
Remove the skin of a sausage to extract sausage
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper then shape into a ball.
Place the ball of sausage meat into an oiled ring on fry pan. Flatten into patty shapes and cook each side until done.
Spray/brush the inside of a ring with a little oil and place in a small frying pan. Pour in just enough water to cover the base then bring to the boil. Crack the egg into the ring, cover the pan and cook for two-three minutes.
Toast the English muffin until golden brown, then butter each half of the muffin.
Assemble your DIY McMuffin by layering the patty and egg on top of a slice of cheese.
Fry the hash brown until golden brown.
    Now enjoy!

I've been making my own for years, always striving for that special flavour you get from a genuine McMuffin . I'm pretty close! I've used frozen sausage patties, but also have made my own from fresh, good quality sausages. Here in the UK you can buy Lincolnshire sausages which are nice and spicy. They make a good sausage & egg McMuffin look-alike. For the muffins I only use the Warburtons brand. They've got to be fresh, so look for a long use-by date. I take a muffin out of the pack, split it in half, put the halves together again and wrap in kitchen foil. Then I place my little parcel in a hot oven for 10 minutes, then I toast the halves on the inner surface only and assemble the meal. Meanwhile I'll have fried the sausage pattie and the egg. I butter the muffin halves sparingly. One thing the guy doing this video missed out was seasoning on the egg. Maybe that's his personal preference. I sprinkle a little salt and pepper on the finished egg. Finally, I don't have burger wraps, so I wrap the muffin in *thin* wrapping foil and keep it warm for a few minutes so that the cheese melts a bit and the flavours mingle. Like I said, my version is pretty tasty, but it's not the same as the real thing. The finished muffin in this video looks well tasty, though! Let's hear it for experimenters everywhere! There are thousands of us!

Looks identical to MC D's. The only thing I would do different is not break the yolk and cook until the egg is a little runny. But that's just me. Yours looks like it tastes better than MC D's, cheaper too I bet. Wish I had an old tuna can to use as the mold. The cans now are rounded and I can't remove both ends. Hope all is well for you and your family.

McDs I hear break the yolk to get and even look and times cook, but I know what you mean. Runny is good. its a home version so that would be a nice twist. Previously I used a metal measuring cup to get the round shape, a bit hard to get it out so you ned to oil it well.
