thanks for sharing your thoughts
Surprised to see Patrick so positive about 72 Seasons after watching the original reaction video. Glad it grew on both of you as it did for me!
"In Times New Roman" by Queens of the stone age is my number one by far... such an unique and interesting record, really surprised that you didn't i include this one your review.
Sad to not see Life Is But a Dream by Avenged Sevenfold get mentioned. Its a wild ride and insanely creative. Its pretty polarizing either you love it or hate it. But its by far my favorite album to come out in the last decade for sure
Same!
Every year I do a top "at least" 5, because I can rarely contain it to just 5. 😂 This year my top 7 is:
7. "Heimdal" by Enslaved
6. "Life" by DGM
5. "War of Being" by TesseracT
4. "Stone" by Baroness
3. "Holocene" by The Ocean
2. "Sky Void of Stars" by Katatonia
1. "Take Me Back to Eden" by Sleep Token
I remember going to listen to the TesseracT album but it was 10 db low in volume on Spotify. Like, someone messed up low.
@@PatrickMusilekI usually buy and rip media, and use ReplayGain, so it’s quite possible you’d think my entire music collection is 10dB too low 😂
Chris is so real for including Zig by Poppy
1:41:24 The first two Gunship albums also have vocals on every song but they released instrumental versions of both albums too.
Hey Patrick, I am shocked that the new Match Box 20 album did not make your top 12 in 2023?
It was close! But there were too many songs that faded out!!!!
What about doing a video of past years list & see if they are sti in your top ten
In absolutely no order some of favorites from this year:
Metallica: 72 Season
Hellripper: Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags
In Flames: Foregone
Kalmah: Kalmah
Insomnium: Anno 1696
Bury Tomorrow: The Seventh Sun
Obituary: Dying of Everything
Cattle Decapitation: Terrasite
Scar Symmetry: Phase II
August Burns Red: Death Below
About Death Magnetic sounding bad, the Iron Maiden cover on the deluxe edition of Hardwired sounds exactly like that album, but better. The guitar tone and drums sound the exact same. The song itself also sounds like it could've been on the album. I'm not too sure if this is true, but it must've been recorded during the creation of Death Magnetic.
Song name is Remember Tomorrow and, yeah maybe. When a Blind Man Cries and Remember Tomorrow sound different too.
@@Mjandro All 4 sound different tbh. The Deep Purple and Rainbow covers are both from different tribute albums to the respective artists and Lords of summer is their original song. All were recorded at different times for sure.
Enter Shikari should’ve been Number 1 rather than what you put there instead
RE: Catchiness.
Have to disagree somewhat. Catchiness is an ingredient that may be necessary to appeal to the masses in high doses but it is not the end all be all.
George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" is extremely annoying cause of how catchy and repetitive it is imo. And it's not like I don't like the genre, that song just way overdoes it.
I do find Master of Puppets catchy -- not in a hear-it-once-and-you're-singing-the-chorus way but it hear it a few times... it's a matter of degrees.
Like, is Clair de Lune catchy? Kind of -- for an impressionistic romantic piece but there's only a few spots you can hum along a few notes too. Miles Davis' career has almost no catch and is awesome regardless.
