Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Lana really did a 180 going from getting 2s and 3s to being top 3 albums of the year
She still got a 3 :(

Jeff is the number one at your list of best album from 2023. That makes me really happy. I really love this album. It feels like a christmas present. Thanks a lot :-) Wish you a Merry Christmas!
I disagree (I haven't opened the video)
Never expected to see Jeff Rosenstock at number 1, this is so awesome! I dont understand how you left it off your best singles video, but oh well
I was thinking the same thing, why was Jeff out of his best singles of 2023?

Lana’s album is my top of the year. It’s just hauntingly beautiful and I love it more and more each listen.
This album is insane. I dont know how she did it but she managed to make every song on this album so moving and magical. This is coming from someone who ADORES NFR and was a fan of the following records, especially blue banisters i felt like to me was extremely underrated by the general public, and I can confidently say that Ocean Blvd is her best album to date.
seeing Genesis Owusu so high is AMAZING
he is one of the best rising artists coming out of Australia, he such a slept on artist and deserves recognition for his amazing tunes
throws awesome live shows too
He opened when I saw paramore and I lost it! Had no idea who he was but it was hype!
I love seeing Sampha’s big comeback album so high in the ranking 🥹🥹
Geese was my favorite discovery of the year. I'm excited to see what they do next!

Great list! The Lamb as Effigy is definitely my album of the year, which I discovered through your review, so thanks for that.
I feel like Lil Yachty deserves a spot on this list, also a personal top album of the year that I knew wouldn't make it was Laufey's Bewitched.
no yachty drake ken carson lil tecca lil uzi vert travis scott had me so surprised but i dont know why i was considering this is fantano
I still can't believe the Lemon Twigs album didn't explode in popularity this year. That thing is all ultra catchy sweet gold.
they wouldve probably received more attention during the 90s or so... But yes, i does have a layer of pop appeal and some undeniable catchyness to it
Glad fantano is recognizing it though! Seen them live twice and they put on a hell of a show
Beautiful stuff
Instant classic and endlessly replayable. Best in their discography so far and hopefully they’ll only go up from here! Big up to fantano for bringing some attention to the brothers’ immense talent🎉
They have a very dedicated fan base in europe
so happy to see underscores not only make the list, but to place really highly on it as well. one of my favourite albums that came out this year as well
Thanks for being there to tell us about great music this year Anthony! Have a Merry Christmas!🎄
thanks for the recommendations anthony! i'm not sure all of them are for me, but certainly some great recommendations to check out! in fact, I think I'll go give some
a first or another go!

I just want to say that it's awesome how much effort and (yes, really) love you put into this. I doubt I could get into 50 albums a year, the fact that you're able to not only listen and get into it but actually review it and speak about it in depth is just awesome. Merry christmas and happy new year, melon. You deserve it.

Maps is hands down my favourite rap album of the year, so sick placing at 5 ! Loved a lot of your list especially, also agree with that king krule album being here ❤
didnt know much of sufjan besides the call me by your time track and thanks to this channel Javelin became my favorite of the year 💛 along with This Is Why and Weathervanes, by Jason Isbell, who's been my favorite songwriter for years now
I'm just super glad that you gave Jeff Rosenstock the #1, I couldn't stop listening to the album since it dropped and I saw your review (Should have been a 10 lol), what else to say, you really nailed it this time with the spot and the few words about what the record meant, thanks a lot melon and merry christmas 😁🎄
Jeff Rosenstock has a great resume. Composing music for Craig of the Creek and now getting #1 in Fantano’s best album list lol.
I still hate him for not giving it a 10 BUT YAYYYYY MY FAVORITE ARTIST AT #1
I appreciate the spotlight on Jeff Rosenstock but feel like he could've given higher spots for Parannoul, Squid, Paramore, King Gizzard and Snõõper. For Geese to end up in a higher spot than others seems like a weird choice for me😕

Feels like a lot of people slept on With A Hammer. Such a weird album but still grounded and fun as hell. I can only take so many sad poetic albums about the depths of all humanity - it was great to get an album of beats and energy about actual hope and motivation.

Jeff is definitely my favourite artist of all time, and hellmode feels like a release of built up energy of the last few years since the last record. It feels reflective and it feels healing, as if Jeff is coming to terms with his extenential angst and finally settling down in sunny california
9:05 "you do need to be paying attention to group therapy."
Thank you fantano for putting awareness for the importance of mental health!! Really respect the work you put out
did not expect Jeff to be number one, he is my favorite artist of all time and i love that you saw the beauty in HELLMODE. not my album of the year but it’s truly deserving of the title!
Ben what was yours?!!
thank you king
Was happy to see Hirs Collective, Paramore, Scaring The Hoes and Olivia here though as I also loved those albums. And Lana as like you this new album surprised me from her. Even if imo Hozier and Boygenius made the year for me. Unreal Unearth is one I really think you’ve slept on even if you did give it a positive review, it’s a complete work of art and something I honestly think will be seen as a classic in the future, even if maybe it just isn’t for you.
There is not enough time in the year for me to listen to everything I want to, so I’m gonna end up going back and discovering some of these next year and bet I’m gonna love some of them or at least have them help shape my taste by knowing what isn’t for me, lmao. Merry christmas everyone ❤️💚
Even if Hellmode wasn’t my favorite from him, impossible not to be happy for Jeff! Such a great artist who doesn’t have a single miss in his entire catalog.
Just wanna say thank you Melon for putting out these amazing reviews throughout the year. I've been preparing for the graduate school entrance exam throughout this year, and was at an all time low mentally. The reviews you put out really helps me discover different genres and artists (used to only listen to rap), which made my boring daily life kinda joyful. So once again, thank you melon, wish you a happy Christmas.

Anthony has a wide range of music he listens to. That’s why I like hearing his opinions on the stuff I like. I also like finding new hip hop and jazz bands he mentions because I don’t listen to enough of it.
So glad I got to see Jeff this year! For sure one of my highlights of 2023!
Everything Harmony is probably my album of the year. Every time I listen to it it sounds as if it is a 50 year old classic that multitudes of people could sing word for word. It may not be experimental or daring but it is purely catchy and full of songs that sound like instant classics.
Easily my number one
Yup!!! Mine, too!! Endlessly replayable, instant classic, incredible display of talent
Composition-wise, it’s easily one of the best crafted batch of songs from this year. It’s rare for an entire album to have that level of ear worm quality
Absolutely hate my guts for having listened to it for the first time just a few days ago. The album would've absolutely made it to my top 10 easily!
Everything Harmony was my #2 after Matt Maltese's Driving Just To Drive.
Javelin was my number one album of the year, glad to see you giving it the praise it deserves, absolutely beautiful album
(I'm a top .05% listener of Sufjan on Spotify also lol)

Nice rec! Just downloaded these albums. Staind should also be in the top 10
I’ve always been a fan of your yearly lists. Loving The Lemon Twigs.
And I completely forgot that AHNONI had an album this year, this time with The Johnsons. It’s no I Am a Bird Now, but it’s still a good one.
very happy that tinashe, pinkpantheress and amaarae made the list. they all had such great years, and we’re not judging you for sexyy red melon, it’s okay

great video Melon, great seeing you throw albums that were enjoyable in your own taste and opinion high up on the list instead of striving for some "objectivity" that's not really there. You're a great influence on the music community, thanks for the great year!
Thank you mr Fantano. You help me discover good music and that means a lot. Hope you heal what needs to be.
Happy holidays thank u really rate your reviews.. was wondering love if you've reviewed UK legend Casisdead album Famous last words yet?
So happy to see sampha getting the recognition he deserves. Such a generationally groundbreaking artist with unbelievable versatility.
I was so worried as you went through the teens that Jeff wouldnt be on here, then as you got the top ten I had come to accept it wouldnt be on there but color me suprised with the number 1 pick holy shit. Jeff deserves all the love so proud to see him get that recognition.
Everything harmony is so goddamn beautiful. Thank you mr melon, I wouldn't have know it without you
I have to give a moment of appreciation for your ability to rank all of these different artists and genres of music against each other, it's very impressive. I had to make two seperate Top 10s (metal and not metal), cause I felt I couldn't fairly compare the albums.
Anyway, as far as stuff we had in common, Caroline Polachek, Kristin Hayter, Liturgy, Mitski, and Lana Del Rey all really resonated with me this year. The first three were really high in my rankings.
happy to see underscores in this list. some of the best music I listened to all year!
As much as “After The Magic” is a brilliant listen, Parannoul’s live album “After The Night” blew it out of the water this year. On top of that, “Into the Endless Night” (extended version) might be my favorite song of all time.
i feel like the only person who thought the studio album was better...
I think the only reason no one’s really talking about it is because all but one song on it are only slightly modified versions of previously released songs, unlike for example the Black Country, New Road live album, in which they only presented new songs; which is unfortunate because yeah the whole performance is absolutely stellar and the 46 minute version of Into The Endless Night specifically is indeed a contender not only for song of the year but also oat
I also preferred the live album, the extended version of "Into the endless night" was an amazing thing to experience. Still in awe of how that was pulled off live.
i also absolutely adore parannouls earlier works, i find the roughness and rawness to songs like “white ceiling”(my favorite song of all time) and “youth rebellion” to just scratch a perfect emotional itch
Thanks. I will check these out.
Look, genuinely it's exciting that I liked almost every album on the list here but only about 5 or so are on my personal top 25. Really exciting year for new music
so happy to see hellmode & sth at 1 and 2!!!! they’re def the two albums that stuck with me the most this year. i’ve cried to hellmode more times than i’d like to admit lol
Can't believe melon and I are on the same page about our number one spot. Jeff really outdid himself with this new album, and I've had it on loop for the last couple of months.
Hellmode was my #1 this year too. Absolutely perfect album and so creative. So many unexpected surprises.
Colin Stetson like the guy who did Hereditary score?! Radddd
Side note- I discovered the incredible Sylvana Estrada from your 2022 AOTY vid, I appreciate you doing these, and appreciate your diverse tastes dude🙏
So freaking happy the new Lana record is as high as it is! Most emotionally impactful album for me of the year. She absolutely mesmerized and hooked me in a way I never expected coming from someone who I have very limited experience in her respective genre and creative output. Truly a queen that deserves all her flowers for such an amazing piece of art
@@breadonbuddder5827 good for you!
@breadonbuddder5827 no. Co-Star is a banger though but A&W is the song of the year.
Everytime i listen to A&W I'm just like how does she do it. I LOVED EVERYTHING about this album. Felt like I got to know her a lot more because of it. Very emotional and impactful and overall beautiful. @Luke-el8hs
A&W was the song that really broke through to me emotionally on the record. Beforehand she struck me as just a really interesting person that had struggled with her past. Then after listening to it and reading the lyrics I caught myself feeling like a knife twisting in my gut emotionally speaking
What about it grabbed you, if I might ask? I'm gonna try it again soon but I listened to it twice back when Fantano reviewed it but I found it really dull musically. All I could remember about it afterwards were the annoyingly long interludes. I feel like I need to know what to listen for to "get it".
Underscores and Genesis Owusu both right outside the top 10 is awesome because those along with Paramore were my most-played this year. I was obsessed with both of them couldn’t stop listening
Agree on Wallsocket, just kept going back to it
Thank you for putting Sexxy Red on the list but not Utopia. Good opinion as always melon!

Sarcasm isn’t going to change the fact it’s just an opinion
I absolutely adore Jess Rosenstock's solo music and every other musical project he's been involved with. He's been my number one on wrapper for 3 years in a row now. Hellmode is a fantastic album and Graveyard Song is my personal my song of the year. Glad he's getting this sort of recognition. Can't wait to see him in April.
Huge shout out to underscores and Paramore. Those were my two fav albums of the year for sure
Paramore really came through this year, what an incredible album, well worth the 6 year(!) Wait.
I never would have thought in a million years that a Paramore record would be my favourite album of 2023@@henriktheepic8690
Personally I really loved Geese’s 3D country, it was my niche pick of the year and fantano’s jab at Greta Van Fleet while praising Geese becomes even more funny when you know Geese is going on tour with them as their opener lol
As a massive Jeff fan I’m both in disbelief and pure euphoria over it being the no. 1 pick. It was easily top 3 albums of the year imo but I kinda expected you to put it in the 40s or upper 30s at best so to see it get the recognition it deserves makes me so happy
Glad to see Ken Carson's A Great Chaos at number one! Interesting how fast you changed your opinion on it but I'm there for it!
Thanks for such a great year. Came across a whole lot of great albums thanks to your recommendations. You're the best

underscores' "wallsocket" is my AOTY, so to see it land in the Top 15 is a welcome surprise. Also pleasantly surprised to see "Maps" in the Top 5, and deservedly so. That's my favorite rap album of 2023.
Amazing list this year :)
wasnt expecting A Great Chaos by Ken Carson to be in the top 5 but glad to see youve changed your opinion!
the implications of all 25 albums being now 9s or above is crazy
Right I was so confused by his ordering of some of them. He gave Oh Me Oh My a light to decent 9 and yet it was only #24 and Maps I think a decent 8 and it was #5 😃
@@f4gsforpeleIt shows how much an album can change in enjoyment with time.
i feel that the implication now is that only the top 10 albums or so have become 9s
Emotionally, the number one spot got me this year! The first show I went to see live (by myself at least) in like 4 years post Covid//the ending of a friendship with my ex-fiancee was Jeff Rosenstock and Nnamdi!
Firstly, great work once again and Merry Christmas Melon. I was not really expecting Slowthai’s UGLY in the top 50 after the accusations, but it’s shame that overshadowed a great record. For me it’s easily a top 10 album this year. I’ve listened to it hundreds of times and never get tired of it
93696 and the Lamb as Effigy have to be the albums that left the deepest impressions on me this year. Both are just revolutionary for me.
Although I would've loved to see underscores higher, I'm glad you finally gave Maps its flowers. That's definitely my rap album of the year!
same, Scaring the hoes is a bit overrated for me personally. but i loved Maps
Maps was awesome
Maps is so good dude hell yeah
@@breadonbuddder5827 very cring of you to reply this in every comment.
Glad to see billy woods & Kenny Segal at the Top 5, MAPS is an album I've been having on repeat all year... and it should've been a Strong 9.
would be cool to hear a review of the new conway the machine and wun two record!
also, of course, thank you for giving us all this music to check out!
Jeff deserved this. It’s also my album of the year and has been since release. Really glad to see this :)

Kind of surprised Yatchy didn't make at least 50 with "LETS START HERE"
I spotifyed it all along with the video.. lots of gems that i missed this year
January playlist is set
I never listened to Jeff Rosenstock before watching your review. It became my easy #1 this year. Thank you very much for introducing me to such an amazing artist.
thats awesome dude, yeah jeff has been a massive force in my life since i discovered him in high school. such a wide cataloge of music too
i stumbled apon jeff rosenstock earlier this year and fell in love with his discography, so cool to see people love his new album so much
havent watched you for quite some time, im glad to see the beaver is back on your face
Geese’s 3D Country is so so good. Can’t wait to see what the band do next. Thanks for introducing them to me Melon
I got into Jeff Rosenstock this year and he became one of my top 3 artists of all time within a couple months. While I attribute Worry to most of that, Hellmode was a very close second. That album had amazing highs and touched on a lot of the same feelings I’ve had in recent memory. I think it’s the kind of album that came to me at the perfect time and I love every second of it. Very happy to see you give it the praise it deserves.
Go see him live it's so insane and it's such good vibes in the pit
@@WillToNihilsm I saw him live a couple weeks ago at a local smaller venue and it was genuinely one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to
@@Brave_Tsubasa total agreeance with you there dude. Smaller shows are always better to me. Jeff and origami angel are the best shows I've ever been to, hands down. Just such great energy
@@WillToNihilsmI have Jeff and hot mulligan tix for next year, cannot wait! I really wanna see origami Angel but they aren’t anywhere near the Midwest
@@nickl2854 yeah I think origami angel did their first national tour and that's when I saw them out west. Just waiting for them to do another one, but they're just in the east for right now.
You'll love the concert!
don't see anyone talking about Sprain in these comments. massive W having it in ur top 10, easily one of the best albums i've heard this year,
and what a crazy live show. glad i could see them before their broke up, they were truly a band worth persevering for
Whoa!! love the top 4, but love that you put Hellmode #1, didn’t see that coming but underrated record of the year for sure
Javelin is the album that I listen to after a hard day, is totally beautiful, it's like travel to a different world, and Hellmode is the one that I listen to when I want to have a great day. Such amazing records.
jeff getting album of the year is so hype. I loved the album right away but it wasn't necessarily my favorite of his, until I saw him play it live, at which point it really clicked and its been a top for me since. 3 summers is a fucking masterpiece and if you get the chance to see it live you need to.
Thank you Anthony for another year of your hard work sharing your music. It might not be said enough but we all appreciate what you do on the day to day to share such great (and terrible) music. I’m saying this, I am a bit confused as to why you have placed Imagine Dragons’ Night Vision at number 1 when it came out in 2012. Regardless, thanks again!
Was not expecting (but very happy to see) HELLMODE at number one. Very much deserved pick, Jeff came through with an incredible variety of sounds. Though I wish Armand Hammer’s We Buy Diabetic Test Strips was higher than number 11, I’m glad Scaring the Hoes was your number two.
I know you weren’t much of a fan of previous Lemon Twigs records (which I think are also amazing) but it is nice to see them finally make something you are enjoying pretty heavily.
lets goo: happy xmas and new year, anthony, thanks for all the work. Last thing: i think you should check out El diablo en el cuerpo, by Alex Anwandter. Its so goood.
Can’t believe this year is coming to an end. It’s gone by so fast
Anthony, could you make a video on Green Days new singles and upcoming album? Though you could also just wait until the full album comes out, cheers! ❤️
Wow, I just listened to your review 2024 in your opinion.
I was wondering where you put Jeff Rosenstock's wonderus release.
I'd actually somewhat given up on it making your top 50 only to find it at number one.
Brilliant album, brilliant choice.
Glad to see The Brave II taking the #1 spot. Tom Macdonald and Adam Calhoun are truly pioneers of their own genre.
