Great video... Car haulers earn EVERY dime.....especially during the winter. Big responsibility and expensive cargo. You can tell the ones that take the job seriously and are true professionals. Thanks for sharing.
Certainly wouldn't want to drive cars across town with that! Alot better than the old Anchor motor freight trailers! Alot of liability involved there great job! Thanks JC
My uncle did that for 38 years at one of the auto transport companies here, and he loved it, the trailers weren't as advanced as they are now but lots of hydraulics back then too. He would go every evening to the trans load yard just on the outskirts of the city and pick up vehicles coming from the auto makers out east that came by rail car to the transload yard and then he would load up and do drops at the various dealers around the city. I went with him a couple of time, and he did most of his late at night because less traffic and you didnt have to worry about traffic in and out of the dealerships. Sometimes he might have just a couple stops and other times there might be 6 or 7 stops depending on how the vehicle's are that are ready to go at the Trans load yard, because the transload yard is massive... I mean vehicles upon vehicles upon vehicles and packed in like sardines. He made great money doing it but it isnt all just drive a vehicle on and your good to go, a lot of work and planning to get it right so you could do your drops in order but you also needed to watch weights and heights etc Brandon seems like he took in the training and got it down pat, like I said lots of moving part and there is a lot to remember just like he4 explained things you can see just how much technology has gone into these trailers but it is only as good as the operator that is using the unit, because lots of moving parts and things to remember when loading and unloading, but good for him , hope he enjoys it, it's kind of a neat job, hard work and the pay is good but they are damn picky about who they hire for there jobs doing this, so that is a feather in Brandon's cap it isnt for everyone. A friend of mind used to drive flat deck and tried his hand at auto hauling, and he didnt last 3 months, he said it was way more work and lots to remember , great money but he didnt like some of the crazy hours you had to work and just how much work went into putting cars on and taking them off and all the paperwork , so he went back to flat deck the trailer and trucks were expensive back when my uncle was doing it, I can not even imagine how much they are these days, but they sure have come a long way quite the pieces of engineering
Very interesting, even for me, since I've watched a couple of channels of cars/trucks being loaded/unloaded. It gives a better understanding of how the decks move but I can't imagine the engineering that went into the development. Sorta grounded rocket science!
Thanks JC! I would hate to be the one that has to do all the plumbing of the hydraulic lines! He has that truck figured out on how to get the most on it! If he can get an extra car on it is a bonus for him! Always have been impressed with those trucks! We're ready to start to put the dump bed on the truck! Should have it done in a few weeks!
That was very interesting I'm always curious about how things work. As a commercial aircraft mechanic whenever I had a part to change I would allwas study the system so I knew exactly what that part did and how that system worked. That in turn help me diagnose problems. Most guys would just go change the part and go to lunch. Thanx for the great videos keep it up.
Man that thing looks like a mechanical nightmare, more moving parts to maintain than 10 excavators! Looks like a tough job! I know tarping a load in the rain and cold or heat is not fun, and I imagine that is probably worse, loading and strapping down 10 cars!
Youre very welcome! If im hauling pickup trucks, then I can only take 5 of them. 1 on tractor, 2 on trailer top and 2 on trailer bottom. Gotta be a little creative to make it happen sometimes but it gets on there. If I have 5 pickups ill usually have them add one to go over the hood. Something like a Jeep or a minivan.
Car haulers sure have evolved over the years from the "one size fits all" top and tunnel style of decades ago. I recall seeing the big change of one over the cab as a big deal. Now they can be configured to haul most anything even mix and match body types. Very versatile. It is a puzzle when you figure in the height restriction. Cool. Question: How much empty travel time is involved or are pick up locations spaced so as this is at a minimum? What has he loaded that he would not mind it being his?
We get to pick and choose our loads, so I try to pick the ones that have the least deadhead miles. I'll run from Point A to Point B, and we have other yards with different vehicles within a few hours of where we deliver. I've ran 7 hours empty a couple times, I've also ran 35 minutes empty a couple times.
Back in the 90's..the company i worked for did the majority of repairs on similar car hauler company...biggest nightmare you could have..when do the hydraulic hoses bust? Yes sir..loaded to the max..getting to some of them was like putting a watermelon in a toaster slot..i hated working on them..even tires and break changes were miserable...total pita all around..i dont miss working on them
When i drove otr i ended up talking to a owner op parking lot. He had a pto pump for backup but also had a 110v motor pump that he ran off his apu so no idling needed. I wouldnt want to drive a parking lot but everybody is different
it isnt his first choice either but the money is always in specialized professions.....if the average driver can do it....then you get average driver pay!
@@j.c.smithprojects thats so true. Im a yard switcher/ warehouse shipping worker. I make $4 more an hr than just warehouse shipping. Specialty stuff you get more. It was funny getting this video and my ron pratt channel he put up a video on a parking lot winchout.
I wonder how much a guy makes doing car hauling. Probably more insurance but better pay ? Looks like quite a bit more labor in loading and unloading. I wonder if he just goes in and get the keys with paperwork or if he sets up and they drive up.
I get a load sheet with VIN numbers, bay locations of the vehicles at the yard, and which vehicles go to which dealer. Keys are in the vehicles (locked gate with multiple security guards and cameras) but the rest is on me. I go find them, do a quick inspection, load them n strap them, then drop everything down to 13' 6" myself.
Impressive rig! Good to see Brandon working at his craft, interesting video. Too bad the wind noise was so bad for ya filming. Enjoy your weekend. Work safe. Doug@ the "ranch"
I am leaving your channel.....not as interesting as before and you skip all over the place and seldom follow up on the projects you show....I know your attitude.....each to their own...and you do what you do...and that is fine with me....but, I don't have to watch your channel ....DONE AND DONE
i chuckled at the "DONE AND DONE".....its like your angry. if you dont want to watch then dont but dont act like i owe you something. my advice to you is pick up a camera and make some videos.....you may have a new appreciation for the people and the videos you watch for free.
“I’ve always wanted to see how those things work”
... said every subscriber to this channel.
Pretty neat. I would think a guy really has to talk himself into loading that first car!
Hauled cars for 18 years it was a cool job LOTS OF COOL STORIES Car haulers should write a book it would be a best seller
That’s a good company he’s running for. That’s a smooth ride too
Be very proud , your son is only one of the few that can do what we do !! It's not for everyone

Fantastic over view ,, good to see Dads 'professional eye' on the frost damaged steel section. Unbelievable the mileage these vehicles cover.
Wow. Trailer is sweet, and 440K on that rig? Incredible.
Mate never seen the workings but always interested, great rig all round. Like father like son, can be very proud both ways. Again thank you.
nice rig your son has a big responsibility with all those cars and it's a lot of work you must be very proud of him drive safe
That's awesome I can tell your proud of him as you should be I bet he was out there with you every day. Nice unit he's got

Thank You for sharing this and nice to meet your son
Sweet Rig ! That's awesome for your Son be proud 💪🏼
Glad to see Brandon finally getting into a good truck. He is going to do well for a great company there. One Team..One Family.
Pat yourself on the back JC you taught him well!
this has nothing to do with me....he has become who he is all on his own.
Thanks for sharing JC and Brandon. You guys sound the same when you speak.

he really enjoys it. it pays very well as it should. takes lots of planning and attention to details to avoid any damages.
Awesome rig and engineering. Glad your son isn't afraid of heights.
Holy cow, 400,000 miles and it looks new out of the box. It good to see a company, and your son, that takes good care of their equipment.

Nice ride
Being in Australia , logistics in trucking is big business and multi combination is now becoming the norm,
A good friend of mine drives a car carrier. He's been doing it for 25 years and never been in one accident hauling cars.
Great explanation of how these trailers work!!!
I'm an ex engineer, and still love hydraulic ram applications. That was a treat! Thank you JC
Thanks for this video I always had an idea how these worked but never saw a breakdown exactly how it works
Great video.👍👍

Great video. Brings a whole new meaning to the word transformer. Lot's of moving parts on that set up for sure.

Great review.
Thank you for sharing that you do appreciate it be safe prayers and thoughts out to you and God bless you
Thats a pretty sweet rig! I have always wondered how those car haulers worked. lots of levers!
Nice video, Loved seeing the WVU Sweatshirt.
Loading the top deck on a snowy winter day would certainly increase the pucker factor.
Love that rig. Must be a maintenance guys nightmare to service that thing.
Always wondered how they got all those cars on those trucks, neat!
Used to drive these on Australia, will send you some pics
Badass setup, definitely a lot of work to load.
Very cool, he looks just like u
Thanks for the video Mr. Smith!
Great video. I always wanted to see how those work.
This was cool...I always wondered how these worked...you can assume all ya want...but this was nice!!!
He picks up in my town. Toledo. I never realized how much Hydraulics those trailers have
Wow. Impressive
Every inch is calculated / utilized and accounted for.
400k miles and still a *nice* lookin' rig! Those hydraulics work *fast* ! 😲.. Your son looks just like you! 😂 minus the beard! Take care JC 🙂👍

@@michaelhartloff3833 Hey Mike! 🙂👋
I think I saw that rig leaving Cottrell when I was working out past there in 16
Ron Pratt just posted a video today pulling one of these things out of the mud!
I've always wanted to get into car hauling... I'll stick to my heavy wreckers and landolls🤣
Boy they've changed since I've ran one back in the late 80's an early 90's
That 13 Litre engine is made and tuned in Eindhoven @ the DAF factory....
I am based out of Ohio and run a similar truck and trailer. I have an 06 379 with a high rail. 1.5 million mile C15 CAT.
Time for a ride along
not gonna lie you son got pretty cool job
Brings back memories
That's nice, does he do his welding for his side jobs or doesn't do it anymore. He can weld.
what's the empty weight on something like that? nice truck
47,000 ish?
It seems like it will be hard to get 10 regular size vehicles on there and stay under 80,000.
What if your hauling puck up trucks?
Thanks for shown us your truck and trailer system Brandon
Youre very welcome!

What distance would he travel with each load?

Do these high rail type units have built in ratchet straps?

JC stop eye balling ur sons tires , lol , Thx
Why doesn't Brandon make any more you tube videos?
My dad ran car hauler with a cab over
Same with my uncle....those cab overs were a staple way back when
Has he ever been temped to haul cars for people? Sideline stuff?
there is no time for any of that. he is gone all but 2 days a week on average.
28 miles of hose.
Interesting
Think got the order wrong on 123

That’s my truck.
So how much would that cost new?
That rig is in the ballpark of $350,000 for truck, trailer, and headrack on the tractor.
@@SmittysSpareTimeProjects I actually would have guessed twice that much.
Impressive rig! Good to see Brandon working at his craft, interesting video. Too bad the wind noise was so bad for ya filming. Enjoy your weekend. Work safe.

it is what it is.....i knew it would be an issue. so we positioned the truck to have the wind at my back most of the time.
440k Paccar life........
Nice. Don’t bother opening bonnet next time. At least not for a POS PACCAR engine.
Poor kid running a paccar
