very great video, doing my first service for the bayliner after the first season of fun haha. a few things for you readers to denote, when starting have the throttle in choke mode but pump it about 5 times if relatively cold, but keeping the throttle pulled back as far as you can so you dont rev the hell out of the engine. before you even try turn it over, allow the tks valve to open, takes a while but the engine will warm up faster. secondly take off cover or switch on your blower for 4minutes min. then lower your outdrive. this is to prevent the bellows from being put under pressure, turn on water, then complete the rest of the starting procedure. its keys to follow the first few points as if not it could lead to unnecessary wear on the engine and lead to shortcomings in the future. have fun boating guys!
The shavings from the lower unit screw are completely normal and that tells you that your gears are working fine, the oil from your lower unit needs to look normal, but if it looks milky that means your exhaust seal is bad you will need to replace that. When you refilling your lower unit oil you need to bring the unit down. Good luck
Very happy with the detailed informations you provided, we have the same boat and engine, so every details apply to my boat. Great job, I subscribed right away !
Thanks for posting, very informative. You don't have to remove your gear oil reservoir to drain it, the gear oil will drain out from the reservoir when you remove both drain plugs and drain your gear oil. Not necessary to remove the reservoir.
Just make sure you remove the reservoir cap when you drain the lower end oil the next time, and allow it to all drain out through your lower drain plug near the prop. Much easier.
Nice video. Your place looks like mine in NE Philadelphia. Great video! Thanks for sharing, now i can get my boat serviced by myself. Comments were helpful too, especially for sterndrive!
Hey. I was just wondering if you have ever changed your spark plugs before?, or cleaned your carb. This video helped me a lot and was wondering if you make another one on clean the carb and changing the spark plugs. Thanks
Say goodbye to your U-joints 😉. Never run your engine with the drive in trailer position or all the way up. It puts a huge load to your bearings and u joint splines.
Jerry Kuhlman I was wondering what size hose and fittings you used to replace the oil plug to get it through the boat water drain hole?? Thank you in advance.
Hey we’re did u get your guilder set up I have same boat if you can give me details I would appreciate it thanks and nice video this helped a lot as we have same boat
is it just me or does something sound off with this engine almost like a scraping sound, my 3.0 sounds more girthy with no high pitch sounds. just curious
salut iro79 je sais que tu es de la montégérie et moi aussi. es ce qu on peux se parle de bateau et changement d huile... en te remerciant a l avance. j ai un bayliner 170 3.0litre

Great tips in the video. Thanks from a fello ‘Ukie’ in Toronto. 🇨🇦👍🏼
You should lower the drive to vertical before starting the engine
Thank you for posting. I wasn't at all sure how to fill the gear lube reservoir. Very helpful. You're a class act.
Jim Kelly you are welcome.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Just bought an older boat with same engine!
Can you make a check list in google sheet or etc, so we can just copy and paste it?
Great video. Very helpful. Greetings from California.

getkitchendeal you are welcome. Trying to do my best. :)
Thank you for posting this. Where did you get the oil and filter ar?
I have a 1995 bayliner capri ls1750 what oil and gear lube do I need
What is that pull handle in the engine compartment for
Great video well explained but I was just wondering where the oil pressure sensor is located on that motor because I cannot find it on my bayliner 175
Sorry, I don't know where the oil sensor is on this engine.
If you take the oil cap off it will drain quicker
Thanks for the video, super helpful!
New subscriber love your video
Hey. I was just wondering if you have ever changed your spark plugs before?, or cleaned your carb. This video helped me a lot and was wondering if you make another one on clean the carb and changing the spark plugs. Thanks
I did, but had no camera with me. Spark plugs are super easy. Remove the wire. Unscrew the plug. That's it. However Inever cleaned my carb.
Say goodbye to your U-joints 😉. Never run your engine with the drive in trailer position or all the way up. It puts a huge load to your bearings and u joint splines.
Ok. Thanks for the warning.
thanks.
He never put it in gear...
Only if you put it in gear. Out of gear, there no real stress on the joints.
@@barrybebenek8691 It still puts stress on the joints. They are not made to move at that angle.
what size or part number is the oil filter wrench? mine is stuck . regular clamp is slipping.
Sorry, I don't remember the size. Just bought one in a local car part shop and it fitted well.
Thanks a lot... This is really helpful...

I was wondering what size hose and fittings you used to replace the oil plug to get it through the boat water drain hole?? Thank you in advance.
It is a kit and it was preinstalled with my boat.. I don't have a size.
Some thing like this: www.amazon.com/Oil-Drain-Kit-thread-size/dp/B0000BYO1R

forums.iboats.com/filedata/fetch?id=7088364&d=1376183381
I bought a boat like that but I had a problem with the propeller so they changed it. I would like to know that # is the boat
my understanding is that you never run the engine with the outdrive at an angle
You don't run your blower for a couple mins before starting your boat??
I do, when it's a first start of the day. Or I can smell gas fumes.
is it just me or does something sound off with this engine almost like a scraping sound, my 3.0 sounds more girthy with no high pitch sounds. just curious
If you are about hissing sound, it's air. It sounds like this when it's cold. It's normal.
Thanks,

Iro79 cool thx
Have the same exact boat just probably worse shape thanks to previous owner grrr.
What nationality are you? Near Montreal?
I`m Ukrainian. Yes, near Montreal. My boat is in great condition, thanks to previous owner :) love it.
Great video man, really helpfull!! you wouldnt know where the water temp sensor is on this motor would you?
Look at the thermostat housing on the front top of the engine, where the two hoses connect. It is on the bottom of it.
Great video man, really helpfull!! you wouldnt know where the water temp sensor is on this motor would you?
Sorry, no. So far no problems there. :)
