    Nsync not backstreet boys
This felt like a love letter to fox early 2000 comic book movies it’s a mess but an absolute blast

Couldn't agree more, glad it's not just me 😅 it's called a love letter to all of those old characters but, despite them all vaguely getting something to do in the very meta plot, none of them particularly feel like their original characters, and the film has nothing heartfelt to say about them. Feels more like the shallow cash grab veneer of a love letter, than an actual one

I agree with this. Jackman was great and there were like three or four genuinely hilarious and sometimes quite clever jokes but there are also a lot of boring exposition about the timelines, running gags that are not as funny as they think they are, some clumsy narrative (both visual and in story) and characters that were not very well used. I actually quite liked Cassandra Nova and I think the actress was really convincing in the role but she feels underused here, maybe the movie is too silly for the character or maybe the plot is just not interested in her, but ultimately she came off as another kind of forgettable villain and it was not the actress’ fault this time around.

Glad to see I’m not the only one to feel this way about D&W. It’s certainly entertaining with these characters and these actors together, but this time you could tell it was doing the heavy lifting for a messy story. The amount of work to bring back wolverine, then to take forever to explain what made him the worst one only to tell and not show baffled me. The amount of times where a character has to basically stop the story to explain why the next scene suddenly has stakes was what frustrated me.
There were the pieces together that could’ve made a truly great Deadpool & Wolverine movie, but to me it’s just an entertaining mess and the weakest of the three Deadpool movies. The action and humor were still pretty great, and some genuinely excellent acting from both leads.

Yeah, this about sums up my thoughts on it. A lot of people I know are trying to say this is some sort of Marvel-saving masterpiece, but, while I did enjoy it, it’s really not allat.

Thank you for being honest, and you are brave because contrarians will come for you in the comments - its not awful, the first time you watch this film, if you are a comic book fan, you will be hype, cameos are great, but the story is non-existent - the mask and costume are awful - people want Wolverine to be comics accurate but not 5'3" - people won't be honest about this film until the hype calms down - I would watch this for the cameos and certain scenes a few time, but I have no desire to watch Deadpool 1 or 2 ever again, and this film will join those...

I don't have superhero fatigue but I do have mutliverse fatigue. This film really leans far too hard on that. I feel like this movie should close the book on it because if they keep it up until Secret Wars it's going to really feel played out.
If they still plan to do the Secret wars story form the comics they would need three movies to properly tell the saga.
Movie 1: A threat is causing incursions and the Multiverse to collapse. The heros stop the threat but the mutliverse is still collapsing.
Movie 2: With the Mutliverse collapsing they need to find a way to save everyone form the end of reality.
Movie 3: Battleworld is born and the heros have to struggle to remember who they are and have to recreate a new universe to live in.

For real. I would be down with super hero movies that go back to basics like the raimi spider man movies, sick of the multiverse and sick of crossover events making movies feel less like they can be enjoyed as contained works.
Logan is a perfect example of a superhero sequel that can be enjoyed on its own, it definitely gives fans of previous movies a lot to enjoy but Logan is a great movie in its own right, modern super hero movies are almost never like that anymore.

I really enjoyed the movie. The Disney-ness and multiverse-ness of it all did weigh it down tremendously, but I think it did a pretty tremendous job squeezing all that in considering. Could it have been a better movie without all that? Probably, but we can't have that movie because this is where we are. I was honestly shocked I did enjoy it so much. the shocking part was just how far Disney let the film go. The action scenes were absolutely amazing. These were the fights I would have wanted in this movie. The least favorite was the 3 cameos you mentioned which is really more like 5 and then really like 15, but that particular 3 cameos were bad in my opinion, but the final of those 3 was the absolute worst.
Over all I thought the movie looked too brown, like modern video games, but it's hard not to when a large part of your movie is in the desert. I'd be happy to not see another desert in a film for a decade+. The rest of the scenes I really liked the color and it popped well in the theater.
Sure it's a mess, but a fairly beautiful fun mess. Plus as a very middle aged fan that started reading X-Men when I was about 9, I got to see some things I NEVER thought I'd ever live to see on the big screen related to Wolverine, so I am happy about that.
I do bear a little shame over this movie though because I bought a $40 popcorn bucket of Headpool. It honestly looks kind of great on my shelf, but it still feels like I committed some sort of sin against humanity doing so. Maybe that's just me.

I think for me the movie hit on something from the comics, but played it a little too subtly. Something from the more emotional Wade stories is how much self loathing he has. He genuinely hates himself on multiple levels. And I think this is part of the relationship between Wade and Logan in this movie, as well as how they leave everything heavily unstated for both.
That part of it isn't the details, all the hows and whys of what happened, but just where we find them now and how they feel about it.
[Remainder might be mildly spoiler-y if only for making you think about specific films]
I can see your point especially in how the movie is ALSO trying to be this big eulogy for the Fox comic movie history, which has some significance if only because it was one of the grand pappies of the line. The first X-men movie came out in 2000 and is arguably when this whole ball got rolling (with one very specific earlier movie that is ALSO important to this particular legacy).
But trying to have BOTH the meta-eulogy and the self-worth story means they're both fighting for air against each other sometimes. They occasionally play into each other, but they're more often shoving each other to the side for the spotlight. And I'll certainly say it didn't have the more direct impact of the first two DPs.
I ultimately left with a better impression of it than it seems you did, it worked for me on the whole. But this could just be the fact that I'm a MASSIVE Wade fanboy. But I do get where your criticisms come from.

So yeah all the cameos got overly long explanations, while they just assume you've seen Loki and need no introduction to the staggering scale of the concept of the TVA, and what its role really is since the end of Loki, which would be interesting to people who have seen Loki. Of course what it DID explain about how the TVA works was kinda dumb and bad and I think the TVA needs to be just left alone for a very long time.
Some awesome stuff in it, but "kind of a mess" is an entirely fair assessment.

The film is too long. Too many useless cameos and just muddies its own story when wolverine enters. It’s the product of 5 writers

i wasn't expecting a great story (and it wasn't, not by a long stretch), and i will say Hugh stole the whole dang show. Best part is they don't insult the fanbase because we seriously live in a world where thats a legit positive point. But yes, it is mostly a turn your brain off story and just watch the characters mess around which i will take points off for. In order for a movie to be good, you need good story AND good characters. You can't have just one or the other it has to be both. A lot of jokes didn't land and go figure, the worst ones carried on and on. I do think it went too much with the suggestive talk (especially that one cameo) to get that R rating but the action scenes themselves were fun enough. and sheesh with 5+ writers it really feels like it went through that corp machine where it lost a ton of flavor that could have been gold. oh well, it was nice seeing Hugh for the more hurrah. This is the last Marvel/DC/super hero movie i'll be seeing in a long, long time.

I never loved either of the previous Deadpool movies. Was hoping this would be the first one I *really* vibed with but was disappointed.
The jokes mostly landed, but the action was mediocre and for the third time in a row, Wade’s character arc didn’t really hit the way the movie wanted it to.

Take away the cameos and disect the film's "plot" and it's pretty evident the anchor being plot elemnt makes no sense. Even the fighting is lackluster theres no stakes since they cant die

Explain how it is amazing. How did Deadpool and Wolverine defeat Cassandra Nova in the 3rd? Did Cassandra have a backstory one that's shown not told? Deadpool 1 and 2 had a heart in the story. Here it's lackluster, unnecessary scenes, compilation scenes, unnecessary to the plot cameos. It's just another mcu world ending multiverse involving dookie of a film

I've never seen any Deadpool movie before and maybe about 5 Marvel movies in general, but my girlfriend wanted to see this so watched it at home and we both fell asleep the first time. A week later she still wanted to see it so we started it again about halfway through (didn't want to suffer through the same scenes again) and I again fell asleep. I agree with you about the exposition dumps. They're mind-numbing. I liked the violence even though most of it looked kinda bad. I did still enjoy Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. He's the best part of the movie for me and felt he needed to be the main character. My girlfriend also thought it was just ok. Despite the tons of exposition we really had no idea what was going on
