Wish you had a short section talking about Jen's original character in the comic, which is what makes this the biggest tragedy in Marvel.
The character of Jen Walters is actually extremely charming, she's a wise-cracking sass much like Peter Parker. She loves her cousin Bruce, who she is grateful to have been saved by, as her transformation into She-hulk actually was a huge boost to her life. She loved being She-hulk, and it empowered her. She didn't care if people thought she was monstrous, weird, or a freak. She was meant to be the opposite of Bruce. A woman who wanted to be seen, and found, and not have to hide who she truly was.

Main issue is the writing. Tatiana Maslany gave a good performance and has the marvel charm that an actor needs to fit in. Brie Larson does not have that charm. When she hulk is in movies like secret wars with other people writing it people will start to like her more because she is likable. Captain Marvel is hated all around because she is just not a likable person

How I would have fixed She-Hulk:
    1. Cast an actually tall, athletic woman to play She-Hulk, use practical effects to make her look even bigger compared to the other actors, and use CG to "Steve Rogers" her down to "Jen size." Why? Because, in the comics, Jen actually prefers her Hulk form and feels more confident as a Hulk, so she stays Hulk all the time.
    2. Make THAT her story arc. In the beginning of the series, she hates being Hulk, and the series is about her accepting it and she becomes She-Hulk 24/7.
    3. I like your idea about the Abomination case being one long arc. Let's keep that. Also, the complication that she may end up having to defend Wong as well for breaking Abomination out of prison.
    4. Fewer 4th wall breaks. I know Jen does it in the comics, but the MCU just acquired Deadpool, so let's not overdo it.
    5. Write an actually compelling character and story.
    6. Hire a legal consultant for the court drama part of the story.
    7. Don't. Let. She-Hulk. Twerk.

So they’re just going to ignore that time the apple store employee called Steve Rogers a “specimen” as a compliment? Like, yeah, that’s fine, but when it happens to Jen (who repeatedly talks about Steve like a piece of meat), it’s a cardinal sin. Okay, cool.

    • @Luke_SkywaIker

Tbf the context is very obviously different. Its not perverted at all to compliment a bro whose obviously worked hard on his physique, and is going on a honeymoon with his hot wife (from the employee’s perspective). It was just a nerdy compliment from a somewhat socially awkward dude -
a response from Natasha’s sarcastic “you must be twins”
I don’t like she hulk, not trying to defend the show, but calling a woman a “specimen” on your first date is a creepy red flag in itself. It’s plain to see why Jen (or any self respecting woman) would be grossed out and even troubled by that remark, in that context.
A better comparison would be that one h*rny female officer in First Avenger who took advantage of Cap (who was clearly uncomfortable in the situation). Both the officer and “toxic man 3” had little regard for the respective main character and tried to take advantage of them, showing how easily both genders can be harassed. I appreciate that the early mcu at least tried to show a female taking advantage of a strong man like Cap bc that shit happens to everyone unfortunately

@@Luke_SkywaIker I generally agree with what you're saying in this comment. But I do think the scene in CA:TFA proves there is a slight double standard. After all, unlike Jen - who gets to be angry about her sexual harrassment, Steve is victim-blamed, slut-shamed, and physically attacked by his love interest.
And we know that the Marvel writers don't think Peggy's reaction would be acceptable if the genders were reversed because in the same movie Steve also wrongfully assumes Peggy is involved with Howard and he doesn't attack her for it. They also don't have a role-reversal of this scene in the Captain Carter episode of the "What If" series.

A character has to fall down in some way before they can raise back up. They would probably say that the people calling out wokeness are "incels" who don't do well socially, but the average person has long since decided that Marvel has problems. The die hard fans are completely behind the times on this stuff. Warning bells were breaking out of flashing red enclosures months ago trying to call attention to the collapse of the MCU and some fans are oblivious to it. It's started canabalizing the nostalgia created by lots of the original films to power the low effort TV shows and that's the last thing that a fan would normally want. That's almost literally what Jessica Gao did; someone who has serious issues and baggage, who decided to literally waste millions of dollars of her employer's money to "troll the audience," in one big giant therapy coping session for herself and all her equally misandrist writers (as well as literally having a giant therapy session for herself and writers in the actual show.) And Marvel Studios, since they let them do it, deserved to lose all that money. But the character of She Hulk didn't deserve to be destroyed like this, and the audience didn't deserve this level of hate, either.
It's actually poetic, because like most feminists, they unintentionally ended up hating women and female characters almost as much as intentionally hating men and male characters. Anyone who could write a female character this badly has to hate women.

I think a far better comparison than The Office would be Peacemaker.. He's a dude that has some bad personality defects, from his upbringing and other factors, but at his core, he is a good person and genuinely wants to be a hero.
Throughout the show's first season, we learn where he came, how rotten his father is, the trauma from his past, and how all of that molded him into the person he is, but also it shows him grow and learn from both his victories and his failures, and in the end he finds redemption. He's still not perfect, but he comes a long way, gaining friends, developing clearer morals and values, rising above his villainous father's abuse, and becoming the hero he had always sought to be.
On top of all of that, the show was fucking hilarious.. Basically every thing She-Hulk did terribly, Peacemaker did it right.

You'd think that, after the events of Phase 4, the UN would want even more regulations and restrictions placed on superpowered individuals, because in the eyes of the average person, they clearly can't control themselves. And after what Wanda did in Westview - *_enslaving an entire town of over 3,000 people_* - and what Jennifer did in Episodes 6 and 8, which was start a fight at a *wedding reception hall* and *destroy the top level of a parking garage and multiple cars,* public opinion of superpowered individuals would be *down.*

It’s funny because Hollywood used to make strong female leads better than they have in recent years. It’s almost like when they specifically try to make them a strong female boss bitch, they fail, but when they didn’t really try and were just focused on making a decent movie, they succeeded. Lara Croft is a good strong female character because they focused on making a good movie and character, and didn’t focus on the fact that she was a women. She went through trials and hardships, she wasn’t insufferable and immediately amazing at everything. I just don’t understand how people nowadays think that these “strong females characters” are good. I would NEVER want my daughter to look up to a female character who puts men down, is completely obsessed with herself past the point of general confidence, is born amazing at fighting or whatever and never had to work for it. A good lesson would’ve been if She Hulk did allow Hulk to help her. Boom, teaches kids and everyone that you can’t immediately be great at everything, and seeking help from people with more experience than you is invaluable. But no, teach them to be conceded assholes who never have to work for anything and overshadow every male no matter what.

Beautiful video that touches RIGHT on the subject matter at hand, especially around the 10:00 mark. There's a wild misunderstanding in Hollywood writing these days that the only way to get an audience to connect with movie characters, they have to relate to them by means of gender, race, or sexual orientation. This is not true. A man can watch Alien and find ways to connect to Ellen Ripley, just like a woman can watch a Spider-Man movie and relate to Peter Parker. Sadly, the writers of today can't understand this. Excellent video! Gave it a thumbs up!

    • @NebLleb
      @NebLleb 2 роки тому +18

      THIS.
I've also seen the misunderstanding affect Japanese media, in this case, the new Mobile Suit Gundam show. Witch from Mercury is made by and for people who don't get Gundam.
The concept of a female protagonist however, SHOULD have worked because Mobile Suit Gundam has tons of memorable female characters in the franchise. Sayla Mass from the original show? Marida Cruz from the Unicorn OVA? Cagalli Yula [Atha] from SEED? All of these characters could be relatable to male viewers, just like how Amuro Ray, Banagher Links and even Kira Yamato could be rooted for by women.
However, Witch from Mercury didn't get this, and instead, under the belief that "GUNDAM IS FOR OLD FOLKS SO LET'S UPDATE IT FOR MODERN AUDIENCES!", decided to make a High School Lesbian Romance, which is just UUUUUGH... so frustrating and hateful. It's quite telling that now, the fanbase is suffering from an invasion of fake "fans" who misunderstand the franchise like how the staff do, and that there's no safe haven. Witch from Mercury used the Hollywood woke misunderstanding, and it is damaging the franchise.

Titania stood out to me. For how bad she was depicted. She's supposed to be a major villain to she-hulk. In episode 1 she smashes through a wall and has a quick fight with she-hulk. No one knows why she showed up or what she was doing there. Then she copyrights the she-hulk name and sells some products. Villain behavior at it's best 😂She finally has 1 last fight with she-hulk at the wedding and again, no one really knows why she is the villain or dislikes she-hulk. Ultimately us "toxic fans" were the real villain because the showrunner told us so. I guess this is why the actual villain character in the show had no backstory at all, barely any lines, and only appeared a handful of times over the 9 episodes. My 9 year old nephew could've written a better show. This was absolutely awful in every way imaginable.
I also noticed She-Hulk's body count. I counted 4 guys in a very short period of time. Which means she would've been stacking up 40-50 bodies in a year. Never in my life have I heard a guy refer to a hot hick as "it." I'm older and grew up at a time where if someone did that say no one would be offended and it might even have gotten a laugh. I grew up around some guys that maybe would say something like that. Yet when drunk of out their minds I still never heard anyone say this. One last thing, all the cameos, I noticed this b4 the 1st episode even aired and told multiple friends the show NEEDS these cameos from bigger more well know characters to help carry it and that's an enormous red flag. There is a reason Marvel picked this show to do Daredevil's 1st appearance in the MCU. The 1st Tom Holland Spider-man did this because Marvel wasn't sure Holland could carry the movie plus he wasn't known to American audiences. So they brought in RDJ to help carry it. This made sense but RDJ was the only cameo and it turns out Holland was fantastic and probably didn't need RDJ in that film.

I think the amount of good Camille did for male victims of female abuse is incredible, I never even thought about the Me Too movement as a full-time father who experienced years of abuse with no escape because of the custody double standard, and the abuse double standard's prevalence. Women are always stereotyped as better parents even when the dad raises his daughter 100% alone. Women are always stereotyped as the victims of domestic abuse, even when the man is bleeding from the nose with a fat swollen lip after being punched repeatedly in the face while sitting there and taking it. A man can get beat up without provocation without fighting back and still get arrested more often than the actual criminal when that criminal is a female. And when a child growing up alone with an abuser like that is at stake, and custody laws give children to mothers so frequently, I would take a million times the physical abuse to save my daughter from being targeted. Its an escapable. And Camilla helped Johnny not just because Amber was the abuser, but even more so because Amber was the abuser AND the accuser! That sentiment is beyond f'd up, and creates a beyond unlivably painful life situation for the true victim.

actually during custody, 94% of times when men filed for custody over their children they got it. The court doesn't favour women in custody its just that men don't file for custody in the first place because they don't wanna take care of their own children. Quite a big misconception

@@RED-my9hl got a source for that stat?

    • @HalfLifeOfHumanity
      @HalfLifeOfHumanity Рік тому +42

@@RED-my9hl Where is this statistic from? source please.
By the way, it isn't that men don't file for custody. The system is built around not giving them custody. If a man has a child with a woman, and isn't there to sign the birth certificate, then custody automatically goes to the woman. If the woman wants to, she can quickly sign the birth certificate, or even refuse to share it with the man, because she has the power over the birth certificate when their child is born. If a man isn't married to a woman, then custody automatically goes to the woman. The man has guardianship, but does not have legal custody even if they sign the birth certificate.
And their sounds like some mysogyny in your words when you phrase them like, "men don't file because they don't wanna take care of their own children." Because I am a man and my daughter's only parent, while her mother goes off doing heroin, smoking crack, prostituting herself, every terrible influence that I refuse to let my little girl see her birth mother engaging in. Yet she can still come back home and terrify me by threatening to take her away because SOMEHOW she still has custody. I do not do drugs, do not drink, and fully devoted myself to my daughter the day I fell in love with her, the day she was born. I even home school her just to build a stronger bond and be able to give her the 1 on 1 attention that schools of 30 unfortunately can never give a student. She learns at an astronomical rate compared to when I was in public school I cannot believe it and at 5 she is where I was in 3rd grade. But I did notice that the home schooling community is almost entirely made up of women. But the thing is that neither men nor women are bound by their biology, gender and genetics to be either ABLE or UNABLE to raise their child with unconditional and undying love and devotion; its a choice that requires the openness to learn and complete devotion to your child's wellbeing and trust me, there are degenerate women and degenerate men alike. And I would die the most painful death imaginable a million times over if it meant protecting my daughter, so don't even try to tell me "men don't want anything to do with their children, they are all pigs" because I am my own man undefined by anyone or anything else but the love for my daughter!

Merely, they were romanticizing being a victim because that’s what they heard it’s like when men actually show interest because these women have never actually had a man interested in them to begin with, sad.
