dear god I am so sorry to hear that! That sounds so so scary. Being woken up with symptoms is one of my least favorite things about being chronically ill

It's not nearly as scary as my allergist telling me that I'm not having anaphylaxis and maybe I'm allergic to red meat and that lots of people have midnight diarrhea around their period. 🙄 no one will listen to me because my throat isn't closing even though I have every single other symptom. She also told me that just try taking your epi pen....no need to wake everyone up in the house and no need to go to the emergency room after. I'm lost. Confused. Pretty scared and no help in sight ....

Idk where the science is at on this these days, but just over a decade ago I'd read something about young girls dealing with TSS because they don't have the antibodies built up in their system to tolerate any internally worn products. Was a girl named Amy Elifritz who died after the ER just thought she had a flu. Her mom started an awareness campaign around TSS and worked with a lab to try to understand what safe tampon use actually looks like.
Apparently leaving tampons in for too long is a problem, but the article also talked about how changing tampons diligently (frequently) actually just results in more and more exposure to the chemicals in the tampon. I remember reading how in tampon-related TSS cases, patients expressed having had previous smaller reactions when using them, before they ultimately had the full-blown toxic shock episode. They also talked about how, once you have the TSS episode, you should avoid anything internally worn from them on, even cotton tampons or menstrual cups, though I can't remember what the reasoning there was, something like there was too much of a risk to develop another infection after that, maybe rayon is like a forever fiber and there's no knowing if it's all been flushed out.
I've been so caught up in chronic fatigue all these years I completely forgot all about the other common household stuff we're exposed to that's trying to kill us.. the mold and the biowarfare agents have just been outshining the rest

Knowledge is power, and knowing why you are in pain/reacting gives us the power to do something! For centuries, women's 'private parts', monthly cycle (and menopause) were considered taboo topics! When dealing with a long term, 'new' illness, knowing that a tampon can be the source of a severe reaction gives you the power to mitgate and control some of effects of the illness. Thanks for sharing your power (and the fab re-enactment of Brooks Shields 'controversial' Calvin Klein ad!

I posted this video on Facebook and one of my subscribers who is a man said "yeah I will pass on that one." It's like fine! Why do you have to comment that? Also, he does realize that watching a video about periods isn't going to give him a period....right? And THANK YOU for your appreciation of my rendition of the Brooke Shields commercial. It is lost on the youngins 😂

Can you please tell us what makeup you do well with?? It looks amazing! I started reacting to Allima pure which I have been using for a couple years, but now my face burns like crazy using it. Would love to know what you use

Thank you! Makeup has become therapy for me during this illness. With my MCAS, I don't have much of a reaction to things that go on my skin unless it is formulated specifically to reach the blood stream (like a topical low dose naltrexone, for example). Everyone with MCAS is different! I looked up Allima pure. Idk what product you're using from them but the term "clean" is not regulated in the beauty industry. It's meaningless and a marketing ploy. The most common irritant is fragrance, whether it's synthetic or natural, essential oils included. Fragrance has low molecular weight, meaning it can penetrate more deeply into tissues and sensitize you not only to the fragrance itself but also the other ingredients. It's "co-sensitizing." Dr. Dray is a dermatologist on UA-cam that talks about this a lot. I also like watching Abbey Yung because she does reviews of makeup products and tries to stay away from fragrance. A lot of times ingredients that look "clean" like plant extracts are actually just fragrance by a different name. Currently, what I'm finishing up has fragrance (lol) so I'm figuring out what I want to buy when I am done with the product I am using. But with MCAS you can potentially react to things that are truly harmless so I would say it's very much trial and error

@@BartonellaBabe I didn't know that about plant extracts! That's good to know, as some of the more "clean" and low ingredient lists have extracts typically. I will look into it more . But whatever you're using looks great!

Megan Swadner some plant extracts are fine and are not fragrance. It’s all so complicated! But I’m learning every day from those two UA-camrs 🙂
