Dorf, thank you for the support and the great question. I did not purposely wrap the thread around the thread tensioner. It just kind of happened by accident.
Awesome job explaining. Helps novice builders like myself learn. I just learned how to do a color change from a video. It came out nice. I am about to attemp this wrap on my new 12’ surf rod build
Your video was very helpful, but I noticed that the thread coming from the spool appears to be looped around the eye of the tiptop on the tensioning rod instead of running through it. Is that intentional? Thanks.
You forgot to align the threads for the color transitions. That's why the comments mention portions where it looks crappy. Where you stop the first solid yellow, go to black, then pick up the yellow again, if you align the overlaps, you won't have the wonky misaligned thread start, it'll look like barely a wiggle in the lines, but smooth and no loose ends.
What is the black thing you’re using for the trim metallic wraps ? Please don’t say a plastic straw they been banned here for awhile and had to find 😩😂
I cannot believe I have never thought about doing the trim like you do. Freaking brilliant. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you very much WM. I really appreciate the positive feedback and support. Thanks for watching and feel free to let me know how yours turns out.

Nice work bro.. btw what size u use for the Thread? A or D?
I’m t depends really, but this was size A if I remember. Thank you for watch and commenting Mr. J.
Good technique and well explained.
Thank you Frank, I appreciate the support. Tight lines.
Everything looks great, but there is a portion in the diameter where it looks like crap, any techniques to avoid this?
Are you referring to the ends of the wraps?
Thanks for all your hard work sir
You are very welcome and thank you for watching.
just found your channel, good information. Question, why do you have your thread wrapped around the eye let on the thread tensioner
Dorf, thank you for the support and the great question. I did not purposely wrap the thread around the thread tensioner. It just kind of happened by accident.
I kinda thought as much as that happens to me some times, being fairly new to rod building, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something
great video and info john
The hank you Tom and glad you enjoyed it.
A great trim. I hope I can do half as good!?
Thank you Frank and I’m sure you will do just fine. You will get the hang of it once you do it a few times.
Question. After you do 1st side of saw blade what would happen if you wrap 2nd saw blade the opposite way?
Great question, and you would end up with an olive branch wrap.
Awesome job explaining. Helps novice builders like myself learn. I just learned how to do a color change from a video. It came out nice. I am about to attemp this wrap on my new 12’ surf rod build
@@trooperdee1970 - thank you, and glad to hear you are learning different wrapping techniques.
Nice work man!! I like it!
Thank you Richard.
Your video was very helpful, but I noticed that the thread coming from the spool appears to be looped around the eye of the tiptop on the tensioning rod instead of running through it. Is that intentional? Thanks.
No, not intentional. It just happens sometimes on my wrapper. Thank you for watching and the great feedback.
@@reelbluecustomrods Thanks again, I just bought one of those wrappers and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick of the trade.
Nice effect. Can you wrap 2 different threads 2 colors for the saw blade at the same time?
Yes you can Craig, and there is a recently posted video on my channel on how to do exactly that. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@AndrewOuimette - thanks for watching and commenting Andrew.
what tension is put on the saw blade wrap while twisting tge thread and turning on the rod otself
Medium. I don’t like it lose because it won’t lay down correctly if it’s not tighter.
Great job
Thank you.
