    I built a rod and forgot to put on the winding check that I had for it. Now it's time to go back and do an epoxy ramp. I'm new to rod building ( 2 rods so far), new hobby for an old retired fart. Your videos the the best for a new person to learn from. Thank you and keep them coming!

    I just watched all of your rod building videos. They were great. I have watched hundreds of hrs of rod videos and have built about 35 rods. I give them away. The epoxy ramp was a first and a must know detail. A few of MY tips if I could Lee. As you are sliding on your reel seat on the blank after you have build up your arbors and the applied the two-part adhesive, wrap both ends of your reel seat with about 1 inch wide masking tape. Take it flush to the ends. Just a few turns will do. If you do get any adhesive on your reel seat, it will stay on the tape and not the reel seat. Peel the tape off for the final clean up. You'll have less clean up. Believe me, beginners will generally have a mess during the reel seat application. Don't skimp on the part A and B reel seat adhesive. Load it up and clean up. Also, I don't clean up the yellow paint brushes. It's a pain and they are cheap for a pack of 50 or more. I cut them in 1/3rds and use them to stir the epoxy for the thread. Stirring wth pop tickle stick can sometimes leaves small fibers of wood in your finish epoxy resin. You don't want this to happen.

    I've been watching your videos for a few months now and really get a lot out of them. I'm new to rod building, I took the Mud Hole online course and learned the basics. I have built 4 rods, for myself and family members so far. I'm really excited to learn as much as I can, so I just joined your channel. Thanks for the time you take to explain the steps in a way a rookie can relate to.

      You are the reason I take the time to make these videos. I really enjoy teaching about a true passion of mine. I hope that shows in the videos. If you joined as a channel member ($5 per month), you have access to live zoom build classes. The next one is coming up around the end of July. Date and time still to be determined.

    Great video! Thanks for the information!
    Can this be done with a 18RPM dryer?

      Yes. You will just have to play with consistency of the epoxy for different speed dryers.

    How long do you wait till your remove the tape. To which the ramp remains, but the tape does not.

      Thanks for watching Tony. I always do my ramps last. The tape in the video was there to represent a grip or reel seat.

    Do you prefer a high-build epoxy or a medium build epoxy?

    What exactly is the purpose of these ramps?

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods  7 місяців тому

      It eliminates the need for winding checks where the grips and reel seat meet the blank. Plus, they can be a nice accent.

      I do not. I'm not good enough at golf for anything to matter...🤣

    Why epoxy over the paste ramps or vice versa?

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods  2 роки тому

      There was no ramp. I built the ramp out of epoxy.

      Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I’ve seen other videos using rod paste to make the ramps. Is there an advantage using one or the other?

    • @fdxcustomrods
      @fdxcustomrods  Рік тому +1

      I like the look of clear epoxy. I always build my ramps over a design feature like a trim wrap. I've never used paste to build a ramp.

    My bro never done one yet but I want to ask you before I start are you using medium epoxy sealer or high build like for salt water rods?
    Love this channel I’m trying to be as efficient as you are not yet to 30 rods but have not done any special wraps until I saw this I need to learn this one for sure thanks for a excellent channel

      I use Diamond II from voodoorods.com for all my wraps and epoxy ramps.
