The irony is that if all these talkshow hosts got the president they wanted in they wouldnt have material to use...well, they would since the Clintons are worse then Trump in their exploits, but they wouldnt be allowed to talk about it because of who holds their leash. So that's neat. It's fun to know that regardless who you vote for, they all suck and do not have your best interests in mind and in the end we all get screwed but at least we can have another reason the hate eachother and get caught up in bullshit instead of being mad at the actual people who orchestrate all this and rise above it to better ourselves as a collective. Unfortunately, about half the population here is not in possession of sufficient logic or comprehension to be trusted with the responsibility of voting. The public could quite easily vote, as they already did in 2016, to again give ultimate power to an empty husk of a human being with zero empathy, moral compass, remorse or dignity. I can tell you with 100% certainty that man is not doing what is in the best interest of America nor what is in the interest of even the people who worship the ground he walks on. He's nothing but a callous, ignorant, selfish vessel kept alive by hatred and fear. Every tweet he sends, he is trying to unleash the fury of millions of people towards innocent individuals that don't worship him. Close to half of the voters said: "yes that's my man, this will maek murica gud! its on the hat dude, its tru." Imagine that you're going to personally carry a raging bull into a china shop you own because you want him to gore a customer you don't like. You claim it'll "make the shop great again." You say "no one's perfect! it'll be fine if the bull breaks everything in the shop. He's trying his best, right? He's different from the other business strategies we've had. I'm telling you, it's going to make us a lot of money." You let him in. He mauls everything in sight, sends your employees to the hospital and leaves blood everywhere along with broken dishes and shards of glass on the floor, and while there are people screaming you smile and say "see? He's really doing it, we're finally a success! FORE MORE YEARS of bull king!" Still so many millions of people would take to their grave the conviction that the china shop is better than ever. As long as that's what our society is allowed to believe and enforce, there's really no hope for our species.

1. Unfortunately, I live in Kentucky so, ya know...Mitch McConnell is a waste of effort. Bevins had also admitted to using tax payer money to pay for private plane trips, totaling Millions of dollars, while telling taxpayers it was "none of their business". That alone should tell you something about Kentucky voters. Republicans hold a Super Majority in the State General Assembly (Senate: 29 to 9, House: 61 to 37, with 2 vacant seats). I'm still gonna cast my vote, though. Even if it doesn't affect the outcome, I'll at least know I did my part and voted against Trump AND McConnell. He’s right when it comes to personal lawyers who are hired, but White House lawyers are public officials we pay for to protect the office not the person.
In all honesty that is the job of a defense lawyer. It doesn’t matter if you know your client is guilty, it is your job to get him off scott free, or close enough. If you cannot remove your personal bias and defend that scumbag, you need to make it known and remove yourself. What I think about that doe not matter, thats just the system they work in. I am not sure about this situation though...
Law School...first day: no one knows the human heart therefore: "You cannot legislate morality." However as MLK once said, you CAN legislate behavior. Dershowitz's argument is totally invalid on its face as he has taken INTENT completely out of the equation. With this argument he is saying that all elected officials' behavior, regardless of intent, is excusable because the end result is for the "public interest." Using that argument, what then is the purpose of impeachment?
I don't agree. I think Dershowitz was trying (and failing miserably) to bring intent *into* the equation. Essentially: "Trump believes his re-election is in the Public Interest, and thus Trump's *intent* was to serve the Public Interest". It's still a bullshit argument and easily disproven, obviously, but I do think it pays to be aware of what they were trying to say.

Sort of. He’s saying the intent is good because sociopathic narcissists say their power is good for us....but I doubt Trump even thinks about the public good, even in a sick deluded way-Trump thinks about Trump. And that’s as far as it goes.
Aralorn Wolf Trump’s lawyers literally argued- in a court of law -that Ttump CAN shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and can’t be indicted or stopped from shooting more people while he is in office. The judge disagreed but the GOP agrees.
To clarify my humble opinion: what Dershowitz is basically saying is that the Mens Rea component of a criminal act for politicians has has been removed and when there is no guilty mindset there can be no guilty act, therefore no guilty intent. Dershowitz is an interesting case. He doesn't actually support Trump and is on record saying he would be personally hurt if he got acquitted, but he also has a particular interpretation of the constitution (not surprising, lots of legal professionals do) which he now has to reconcile with defending the indefensible. I feel like Dershowitz is self-aware enough to know he's making an absurd argument. He's just doing it because he has to. Just like how even a serial killer who left 20 confession notes, showed detailed and calculated plans, and led police to all the bodies, still has to have a defense attorney try to make _some_ sort of argument.

Let's look at the logic. So the argument, as presented at about 3:00, is that: 1) I believe being elected is in the public's interest. 2) What I believe to be in the public's interest, IS the public's interest. 3) Anything done in the interest of the public is acceptable. 4) Anything can be declared to be in the interest of achieving a goal. 5) Anything I believe is done in the interest of the public is acceptable. (from 2 and 3) 6) Anything done to get elected is in the interest of the public and thus acceptable (from 1 and 5). 7) X is declared to be done in the interest of getting elected thus X is always acceptable. (from 4 and 6). So what is X? Anything you damn well please, as long as you claim you believe it. Murder. Child abuse. Corruption. Genocide. Any of the things any sensible society has laws against. This isn't legal argumentation for an election because anyone with a lick of sense can see the second premise is a false equivalency that can't account for the differences of beliefs about public interest in a democracy and is thus fundamentally incompatible with a democracy. What this is, is an argument for an autocracy.

The Republicans have re-defined the power of the POTUS. They have empowered Trump to continue his overreach. It gives him the green light to abuse his power without fear to win re-election at any cost. From now on, ABUSE OF POWER is not enough to impeach any president now and in the future. The only time, we can impeach is when there is a TECHNICAL CRIME. This is scary shit. Some Republicans have come out stating that Trump’s behavior was ‘inappropriate’ (harsh eye roll) but we can’t tell for sure is Trump’s intent was an abuse of power….but there are witnesses especially Bolton that can help us tell us what his intent was. We have witnesses that can tell us what they heard from Trump, but Trump denied us their testimony. This was a GOP lead Senate COVER-UP. So if Trump does it again, it is up to the Senate to call out Trump if he does this again. REALLY? A whisper slap on the wrist is all he will get. Another eye roll. And then Dershowitz states: "The president is the executive branch. He is irreplaceable." Which then can be argued that he is above the law. As long as Trump does not accept money (that would be corruption) he “can trade taxpayer aid for foreign interference. He can sick law enforcement on his political rivals." He could accuse them for corruption, have them investigated, charged, in jail, trial…delay trial…stretch it out well pass any election date. We must never impeach another POTUS during an election year? Really? Even if the current POTUS is cheating to win the coming election? So it is supposed to be the responsibility of the voter to punish/impeach the POTUS not the Senate. But what happens if the POTUS wins re-election by CHEATING by ABUSING HIS POWER? AND NOW THE TRUMP TEAM IS CHANGING THE RULES. Now it seems it's okay for Trump or any future POTUS to get all the dirt they can gather as long as the information is 'credible'. Who is supposed to decide what is 'credible'? How are we supposed to know what information is 'credible'? How are we supposed to decipher what the true intent of the foreign country is? Dershowitz’s argument is that if a president is seeking re-election he has the power to act as if his re-election is in National Public Interest, therefore, it is in the president’s right to seek whatever they wish in order to benefit that Public Interest (his own re-election)…That gives the sitting president HUGE power over any sucker who thinks he/she has anything near the power similar to what the sitting president has at his disposal. So is it OK for a President (provided he is Republican) to imprison or even execute rival presidential contenders, provided he BELIEVES that his getting re-elected is in the national interest?? We are opening the floodgates to future POTUS with increased dictatorial powers.
He represented OJ Simpson and Jeffrey Epstein. An accused double murderer and an accused just straight-up monster. This is the kind of case he's built a career on.
@@kbpeters4246 A lot there to unpack. The problem is "Abuse of power" is a very loose term and the reason why you have to have a specific reason to impeach because for every president, the opposing side would ALWAYS throw a flag on the field (so to speak) and claim "abuse of power". Most presidents do abuse their power and the courts have stepped in. Obama lost a lot of those battles but there was never a serious effort to impeach. -- I'm not aware of Trump cheating to win re-election. Asking Ukraine about Biden and his coke-head shady dealings in Ukraine is not cheating (nor foreign interference) and it not digging up dirt. It's an honest question that needed to be asked. -- "We must never impeach another POTUS during an election year?" I agree, that is wacky talk. I don't understand the stance. -- " ... power to act as if his re-election is in National Public Interest...". The stance is not that his election is in the National Public interest, it's whether his action is in the National Public interest (which asking if Biden - the potential next president- could be beholden to Ukraine is of interest to us). It's 2 parts. Part 1 is if what he did is of national interest AND Part 2: even if it helps him politically (which is a given with politicians), it's not impeachable. -- "He can sick law enforcement on his political rivals" Obama actually did this with the IRS. What do you think?
I love how literally nothing's changed. Their argument still boils down to "the president didn't do it" then "it's fine if the president did it" to "it's not illegal anyway". And somehow they've gotten away with that for 3 years

He's really doing it, we're finally a success! FORE MORE YEARS of bull king!"
Still so many millions of people would take to their grave the conviction that the china shop is better than ever. As long as that's what our society is allowed to believe and enforce, there's really no hope for our species.

Using that argument, what then is the purpose of impeachment?
I don't agree. I think Dershowitz was trying (and failing miserably) to bring intent *into* the equation. Essentially: "Trump believes his re-election is in the Public Interest, and thus Trump's *intent* was to serve the Public Interest".

Dershowitz is an interesting case. Let's look at the logic. So the argument, as presented at about 3:00, is that:
1) I believe being elected is in the public's interest.
2) What I believe to be in the public's interest, IS the public's interest.
3) Anything done in the interest of the public is acceptable.
4) Anything can be declared to be in the interest of achieving a goal.
5) Anything I believe is done in the interest of the public is acceptable. (from 2 and 3)
6) Anything done to get elected is in the interest of the public and thus acceptable (from 1 and 5).

How can his argument not be wrong???
Nixon: when a president does it - it is not a crime (especially if done for re-election which is done for the public interest). DEAR GOD.
