The spoken bit is a verbatim of a letter from J Edgar Hoover to the president regarding Martin Luther King Jr. He said, "he may be a real contender for this this position if he were to abandon his supposed obedience to the white liberal doctrine of non violence, and embrace black nationalism. Through counter intelligence it should be possible to pinpoint any potential troublemakers and neutralize them". The position they were talking about is the black messiah, a theoretical figure powerful enough through black support to contend for the presidency. So they had MLK murdered and the estate of MLK won a lawsuit against the US government for conspiracy to murder MLK just so that everyone would know about it. Apparently the lawsuit was only for like $500.
wow , didn't know that, thank you for the info
Pause whatever you need - if anyone complains , they can go watch the original. This song was in The Matrix - awesome song!
UMMM. the original was in 1992 my friend! ALSO YA'LL YOUNG BLOODS MISSING THE OTHER BARS
@@BenDover-qd1sr stating it was in a movie doesn't preclude or imply I wasn't aware it came out earlier. Also, who you callin young blood?
@@Ph4n_t0m agreed! I read it wrong my friend..
Young blood 🧐 lol
I prefer people to pause and talk about the music. Why do I want to sit and watch someone listening to a song and then rewinding to comment about certain parts.
@@kikivon3501 it is a strange sport indeed
“They went after King when he spoke out on Vietnam” is a reference to Dr. King’s 1967 speech, “Beyond Vietnam.” Incredible speech, worth reading.
Definitely need to! I didnt even know anything about this speech
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficial “These are revolutionary times. All over the globe men are revolting against old systems of exploitation and oppression, and out of the wounds of a frail world, new systems of justice and equality are being born. The shirtless and barefoot people of the land are rising up as never before.”
“A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say, “This is not just.” It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of South America and say, “This is not just.” The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.”
“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
Hard agree
Quoted for truth
last time i seen Zack was last fri when RATM was inducted into the rock and roll HOF, he didnt attend, he was marching in DC for Palestine
Now you're getting into Rage, Awesome!
The spoken part at the end about ‘counter intelligence’ and ‘neutralizing potential troublemakers’. Are the words of Jay Edgar Hoover. They are quoted from an official government transcript, I just forgot the specifics. Someone in the comments thread is bound to know it though, keep watching…
The lyrics at the end was a real quote by director of the FBI J. Edgar Hoover in reference to Cointelpro where Hoover's talking about "neutralizing" black nationalists/troublemakers
😳 i need to research that!!
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficial Yeah crazy stuff. Right before the Feds raided and assassinated top Black Panther members like Fred Hampton.
Next requests:
“Mic Check”
“Take the Power Back”
“Down Rodeo”
“Know Your Enemy”
“Calm Like a Bomb”
Ashes in the fall!😉🔥
Zack left in 2000,=they reunited in '07 for a tour that ended in '11, toured last year til Zack was unable to due to healing from an Achilles tear he got on stage, and just got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Zack himself has worked with several artists, including Run the Jewels 3 times and everything he's done has been Fire.
Oh yeah, Tee…Zack is on some Run the Jewels tracks !
Its actually inspiring to see young generations looking through the veil in the real reality. There has been a noticable rise in the collective consciousness in past yrs, from 2020 and on. Its cool to see alot of people listen to these trailblazers and understand it.
I absolutely love that it was Ren that turned you on to Rage Against the Machine.😂
That’s awesome. I got to enjoy Rage when I was in high school. It fit perfectly with my emotions at that time. Pantera is another group that I was heavily invested in. It’s groove metal. It’s heavier, but it sounds amazing. Domination live in Moscow in front of an ungodly amount of people 1M + is a good place to start if you’re interested. There’s a guitar solo in the video that’s legendary by on of the greatest guitarists, Dimebag Darrell, who was killed on stage by a crazy fan years ago(not at this concert)😢
I’m all in on this comment!!
Domination Live in Moscow blows my mind!!
JASONNNN!! Thanks for the request! Yall dont have a clue how much i love requests!!
Saw these guys live in the 90’s and Tom Morello is a beast on guitar….Check out their song Down Rodeo… it’s about wealth inequality and I think you’d enjoy it.
When I can rock out, laugh and pray all in one video, it’s been a good one!
When people have the courage to speak up and give voice to those being kept under the boot, it becomes a full rebellion.
I gotta see em at Woodstock 99 look that live set up 1 of the greatest of all time.
As you have no doubt been told.. The spoken part by Zack are direct quotes written about Martin Luther King, they are taken from an ops with J Edgar Hoover titled "Cointelpro"...
All of them come from backgrounds that are so diverse.. Zacks grandfather was a Chicano warrior and his father was a freedom fighter and a great painter.. Toms father was a Kenyan and his mother was white who always fought for the injustice of the underclassed..
Check out fistful of steel
Keep the RATM coming! 🤘 Testify, Calm Like a Bomb, etc. 😅
T: I can't wait for you to get to my favorite Rage Against The Machine song "Guerilla Radio". You'll love it!
Thats next for sure !!
Zack’s got mad flow and sic BARZ!!!!!!!
A few suggestions
Down Rodeo
Know your enemy
Bullet in the head
Bulls on parade
Pistol grip pump (cover)
Ghost of Tom Joad (cover)
My second view of your channel. You don’t disappoint!
This is my new favorite RATM reaction, hands down. You would LOVE the live shows.
Tee, if you can, check out Rage’s ‘Testify’ live from Finsbury Park, I think it’s 2010?
You know i gotchu Kat!! 🤞🏾
Love ratm..more genre bending at it's best. I hear things I never noticed in songs I've heard a million times because you played it back 1❤
I love these guys, this song was actually on the Matrix soundtrack and it fits so well...awesome movie if you've never seen it.
I knew it sounded familiar a little!
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficialoh phew! Glad you know the movie! It already makes me feel a little old when people don’t know RATM but when they then don’t recognise this song too cause they’ve never watched the Matrix? I start to feel ancient at 38 😅
Go watch the movie again. This song is saying directly what the movie is saying in metaphor
check out "renegades of funk", then the dj-scratchy guitar in "bulls on parade", then "calm like a bomb", maybe "voice of the voiceless", just some suggestions from all over their catalog of cool songs......much love, many props
He’s done tunes with Run the Jewels, released a few solo things but has been quiet really. Some sources say that he was told to STFU by certain forces…
👀
Rage against the machine - know your enemy!!!
best rap band of all time
You are amazing as always!
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
I’m so glad you actually looked deep at the lyrics. I’ve seen reaction videos to this song where people give it some vague, nebulous interpretation, saying things like, “obviously it means wake up from the system, from the government,” and it’s just like NO! It’s not as vague as that. Zack is way more specific about it. He’s telling us to wake up to the fact that our federal government was in the business of murdering our country’s greatest champions for justice and social conscience, all the way to reading a memo where the director of the FBI at the time straight admitted it.
Pretty sure I commented similarly about Fred Hampton’s assassination by a government hit squad (I think that’s a totally accurate and fair description of those cops).
My all time favorite. I was influenced, I was part of the RATM nation LOL. I was lucky to have seen them 5 times back in the day.
1991: Rage against the machine drops their first album and blows up. Killer music hiding serious facts. We called it Guerrilla Radio, a brand new genre named after one of their songs.
Mid 90s: a wave of bands hit the market whith a similar sound (and i mean DOZENS from system of a down and korn to limp bizket and papa roach), but little to no message. Some of them even pumped out the machine's message (i.e. bling, bitches, and blow). The record labels and media companies dub the genre Nu metal. (A highly contentious moniker for all RatM fans)
1999: Wake Up is the last song in the movie the matrix (a clue about the real meaning of the movie), but more important they made a music video for "Sleep now in the Fire" directed by Michael Moore (a highly political documentarian). They submit permits to film the video on the steps of the New York Stock Exchange....
they get denied......
They do it anyway!!
Michael Moore gets arrested on camera, the music stops, and the crowd that was listening rushes the NYSE, forcing them to shut down mid trading day. At the end of the video there is a sound clip....its either a politician or a news anchor that says, "the machine rages on er, rage against the machine...... that band is anti family and pro-terrorist"
9/11/2001: 2 planes strike the money temple (World trade center) and another hits the military church (pentagon).
USA in a panic bans certain music from public radio.....songs that "might incite violence" and Rage against the machine is the ONLY band whose ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY gets the ban hammer.
2024: I find a tiny little corner of youtube where a new generation is finding them.....HALLELUJAH!!! I'm so ecstatic at watching the dawn of realization on people's faces when the HEAR the lyrics. I'm so sad that we're still fighting these problems.....and I'm so riled up from this rabbit hole i keep typing novels in the chat.
So keep listening, keep reading, and I'll catch you on the next one. ✊🏽
He said through counter intelligence it should be possible to pinpoint any potential troublemaker and neutralise them
had the privilege to see them last summer and to this day the heaviest concert ive ever been too
Found you from your Ren reactions, you're my new favourite reactor, love your energy! 🤟
Awe stawp jim lolol thank u though! ❤️😌
This is your show man. You can pause whenever you want. BTW this song was featured in the first Matrix movie. Peace Out!
Gotta watch their live performance from 1992-93 of this song and bullet in Your head
We rocking now! Let’s go!✌️😊🌼
Your eyes when discovering RATM priceless. They were actually banned at one point for being too radical.
You are my new favorite reactor 😆 I'm still browsing your reactions... I know I already recommended Anxiety - Krizz Kaliko.. I also highly recommend Adam Calhoun - Racism. 👍 👌
Know your enemy or sleep now in the fire? which one is next?
Both fire!!
I love your energy! New Subscriber!
The truth is timeless…men die, woman die ideas breathe eternal.
The best ever written Version (to the point it can stand on its own) of a Led Zeppelin song (Kashmir). Respect for making it this good! 🤘❤🤟
Fortunately no one will be able to block RATM because RATM represent way more than some people would like to block them for! - RATM IS ART (and fortunately much more)!
Tom Morello is one of the best things to graduate Harvard.
The people that they tried to pin Malcom X's murder on were in the Nation of Islam, a black nationalist organization that he was involved with earlier in his life (if my memory serves me correctly 😅), hence the "they tried to blame it on Islam" line
U are most definitely right! I didnt know it was his own ppl! Thats sick
This is just my theory, but i think that crazy instrumental at the end after the "wake up" vocals, is supposed to sound like, or act like, an alarm clock.
Ooooo i like that.. 👀
You should try to find the Live in Mexico, RATM in the street of Mexico epic
Born 1975. , novembar 7., RATM 4EVER!..
Man, you crack me up
One of the first I heard to break down the bands name, lol, but yup the machine is definitely the govt.
Want more rage? A very underrated song is Darkness Of Greed, but you really have to listen to the version that is on ( the movie) The Crow soundtrack.
Great review, keep them coming!
also these guys came out in the 90's
✊🏾
✊
Rage and Ren....oh yeah we are in a relationship.
You're fuckin adorable, don't ever change. If you have not checked out RATM "Down Rodeo", you should.
Cheers
Awe stawp cheeto now im cryin lol
Gen x knew. They were ignored / dismissed and gave up because can't fix this shit
Hey there girl. STOP THE PRESS. Check hi ren by Sonny Saxton. You be early in the know
Try " Killing of name..
If people wanna hear it without pausing they can go find the original song, we want to hear your thoughts!
Zack is Mexican
Zack is a Mexican Jew, but it didn't stop him to tell the truth on important topics.
Yo i hope you ain't actually religious. That would be disappointing. You seem like a real one.
Lol so if i am religious im not a real one? Lol
Wild comment lol
@@Selloca religion is CRAZY wild.
@@mindlander my brother I'm a atheist too
But if you go around saying shit like that you come across much crazier
Religion can cause a lot of prejudice
Why emulate that
@@Selloca people should be prejudice towards religion. I'm prejudice towards racists for the same reason.
I like you
I can't edit the other comment but Zack is from East LA.
The part at the end a document is from COINTELPRO, a program by the FBI to go after "subversives."
