This is the clearest explanation of TV cable adjustment that I have ever seen. Period. Tons of forums, UA-cam videos, "expert opinions" ....none of them are even remotely close to this dudes instructions. Great job my friend! Thank you! Now hopefully I haven't already burned up my Firebirds 700.
the absolute best video for the 700r4 i have used this so many times with 100% success!! highly recomend!!!! i saved this video! perfect!!
You nailed it!! Great explanation on how to adjust and why it’s critical to be done as explained. Great job!!
This is the best explanation of setting the 700R4 on the internet!!! Awesome job, thank you!
Thank you. You have been the only person on all of UA-cam to explain this correctly.
Malibu
You are right its better than any vidio out there.
I bought a 'new' transmission from a FL transmission shop but their tech help was almost useless. The paperwork with the tranny was partially useful and the 'help' was very generic without much specificity. I looked at tons of videos and read a bunch of articles but none of them could use plain language to explain in detail the WHY behind what they were claiming I should do.
I watched your video and immediately understood the why behind everything which allowed me to adjust the cable properly as the basic ratchet WOT technique wasn't getting the appropriate adjustment. When I understood that the pressure in the transmission needed to match the throttle equally I realized that the standard technique wasn't allowing the tranny to reach full pressure to match the appropriate throttle response.
You, Sir, deserve a 12-pack for your thoughtful explanation. Well done!
Fantastic explanation! These are super simple concepts but no one else seems to be explaining them as thoroughly as this. The repetition of the content is great and reinforces the concepts. The only thing I'd like to see is the video provided or re-shot in high def. Thanks for sharing this!!
Great video explanation I am installing a 700R4, and was not aware of how critical that geometry was! thanks !
You just fix my truck went outside did what you said and BAM.
Shifts perfect
Your my sprit animal
Thanks
thank you !!!! you are a great teacher I have asked this question from mechanics they only know what the factory tells in manual for stock stuff . thanks to you I can set it right on my hot rod vette
X-cellent video! Tip: avoid the thin chrome cable bracket. Mine bent the first time I stepped on the accelerator. I used an aluminum bracket that mounts on the front and rear carb mounting bolts.
Thank YOU .. That is the Best explanation ever. Great instructing skills. Perfect... I am no longer confused on that "What the Hek"
Man this guy saved a ton of people headaches! I'm glad I don't own a 700r4 before this video! It's definitely too critical for my taste. I love a 4 speed automatic but I'm sticking whither my th350 for awhile. Saving up for a 6 spd manual!
One of the best videos out of all of them.
Best video on the web for 700r4 TV adjustment... Thank you.
Thanks for the straightforward explanation of this system
best explanation i ever seen, and Ive watched all the others. So much im going outside to check mine again!
absolute best tv cable video!
This video is gold! Thank you.
I wish i was half as smart as this man, Great explanation
Thank you for the clear explanation. Need to tighten up my TV cable on my trans swap turbo 400 to 700r4.
VERY WELL DONE! This was a professional explanation of what to do and how to set it up. Too bad that the video was not clear.
Great job on the video!! Thank you!👍
excellant explanation!
I know somebody makes a kit you can install in your transmission that maintains oil pressure irregardless of TV cable adjustment so the trans will not burn up. It's a Throttle Valve update kit. I am going to put one in my '87 Chevy Truck with TBI and a 700R4. I forgot who makes it though.
Very good info but when did they use a Q jet with a 700 r4 the fuel injection has been around a while
Thanks! Best explanation ever.
a perfect explanation, even though I have an EFI tuned port system and "self adjusting" TV cable, I shall bear your tipps in mind, thank you, regards Tom
I have a 91 Camaro TPI (Tuned Port). Your saying its self adjusting? Just hook it up and go?
Quincy Hall
Route it down the firewall, then I would hook it up in transmission first, fit the plastic mounting with new grommet, slide the cable holder into the bracket, now the cable is fixed, the slider must be fully in (press the tab), hook it up to the rotating bracket on the throttle body. Now rotate by hand the throttle bracket kto it´s fully opened position (full throttle). you should see and hear the slider coming out to it´s designed position. Now make the drive test according to GM specification, it should be okay.
Thomas Kleutgen thank you.
Thanks a million that was great im in the procces my self now i feel better.
yessssssssss finaly to the point, great vid, thanks.
Great Video! Thank you for the explanation
Thank you for this vid.
Very informative, thank you very much.
I know this video is old but it still holds true. Do you know how hard it is to find good mechanic that knows all about my 1989 gmc suburban with 700r4? I just got my transmission rebuilt and paid a lot of money for it and had to take it back twice. It still is slipping and clunking into gear. I should have just taught myself how to rebuild it as there are many great videos on UA-cam showing you how to do it.
Just what I needed to know, I'm Fixed, Thank-You.
Best explanation ever!
Best video I've seen on this subject - full of details - can you redo the video at a higher resolution? ;)
Good information but the quality of the video was bad. And you were zoomed out for too much of the video. Thumbs up
This video is 10 years old. That’s how UA-cam rolled back then 😊
Great explanation. Thanks.
Great video , Most helpful, Nice to hear from some one who knows what the hell he's talking about !!!!!!!!!!!!
seems like a good video but for me the lighting is so dark I couldn't see any of the hands on adjustment. not sure whats going on I can so most videos easly was just to dark a lighting for me.
Thanks, I will be trying this with a tunnel ram.
Need a video for the factory specks for a 1986 corvette I am missing one of my 4 drive gears overdrive I’m guessing. I think my transmission is a 700R4 I haven’t been under the car to look at it yet
really appreciate this....thanks
Great video
Irish MONSTeR - Wrath Of One
11yrs holy hell. ok here goes nothing... so what if you make the adjustment at full throttle & off full throttle, but the cord is still loose? AND the cable is stock of course at an incline not flat??
WOW, BEST EVER!
would this be the same for a 2004r also? I got a fresh rebuilt engine and the trans is not shifting like it should. Don't want to burn it up. This was an absolutely Great video!
Yes a 200R works on the same principal.
what about for TBI setups, like ones that have the cam bracket or the straight pull
So what if I'm using a 1 or two inch spacer, do they make a bracket that's longer further down so the cable is straight and not at an angle?
How about that? Most people use spacers.
a million thanks, I am the most stupid human being ever !!
This makes sence and i do believe thats mi problem whit mi TH700R4
what I told my dealer is what I seen in this Video
Thank you so much
i have a 700r4 in my 55 chevy, and its not shifting into overdrive around 45-60mph by it self unless i manually do it. would that be a bad adjust to the TV cable?
Does this apply to 4L60 as well? Mines got a cable like that.
Well how bout showing the actual adjustment method ? instead of goin on about an aftermarket carb and stock linkage which yes is important but the title says "set throttle valve cable 700r4", never showing the steps for adjusting. As in: 1. install cable 2. push black sleeve all the way in ( at the adjuster bracket) 3. Have a buddy step on gas pedal to go WOT - wide open throttle - on the stock AC Delco replacement cable it will adjust itself at this point. 4. Go for a drive see how she down/ up shifts etc then dial it in if needed by increasing or shortening cable length. Again for the stock replacement AC Delco TV cable and stock engine/ carb .
You recommend buying a new tv cable if installing new transmission? TBI is stock & so is tv cable.. same exact transmission model. . .
Excelent explanation!!!
Do you know if the distance in the Rochester 2Jet (2GV) is the same that in the 4 Jet? Or I need to make some adaptor like for the Holley?
Thanks
+Alvaro Sanchez Excellent question! If I recall correctly, the throttle brackets were different dimensions between the 2BBL and 4BBL carburetors. You will likely need an adapter to make the swap, but the best scenario is to take some measurements from the stock setup and emulate those measurements with an adapter bracket, if necessary. There may already be a kit you can buy for that swap. There were some variances between model years, and that's why it's important to ensure you know what dimensions you need. Thanks for viewing the video and commenting!
Fixed my issue on a 90 suburban I just bought. Last owner installed an edelbrock performer manifold. I raised the bracket up an inch and it works now! Still slow going into reverse but shifts as it should. Thank you!
Amen to that malibu jac
thank you.
This is VERY useful
V.GOOD INF.
Can this video be any more pixalated?
Can you be any more of a pantywaist for bringing that up
What cable do i need for my application im doing a 700r4 and a 1996 350 lt1 in my 1995 jeep wrangler. Can you help me out
Where exactly does one go to purchase the proper linkage kit? I personally am running a TBI with a Edlebrock Performer Intake.
Summit, jegs or your perf. Parts store. Holley and edelbrock ( carter), are different.
HELP-What should the shift points be on a1984 stock 700r4 out of caprice classic be?
Somebody chime in please if I heard this correctly or not, or if you know this for a fact or not. At 7:53, he basically states that the "travel distance" of the throttle valve is 1.350"
1" down, 1/2" back is not correct for my application on my 5.3 throttle body so I'm trying to calculate the correct dimensions to get the correct cable pull, but I need to verify what the correct cable pull is...
Your 5.3L is a 4l60E ??? Trans?
No. I have a 700R4. Hence the question about the TV cable... 4L60e does not have a TV cable. I've figured it out since then and have fabricated the connection with correct geometry and travel.
I’m guessing I need to adjust the tv cable
I have a TCI 700r4 and it doesn't go into overdrive ,
When I put the shifter all the way in low gear it automatically shifts up one gear by itself
Sounds to me like you have the old school Turbo 400. They automatically shift to second gear on their own lettuce to keep you from blowing the engine up
great job, only issue poor quality video
9:13 is the answer, the rest of the video is why. Now dont screw it up
Still didn't explain exactly how to adjust the cable when everything is installed. I've yet to find a video that efficiently explains this.
Taylor Ferguson he really did
at 5 mins and 33 seconds you will hear the correct way to set/adjust the cable after all geometries are correct.
do all 700 r 4 transmissions have a tv cable
Every 700R4 has a TV cable as well.as the 2004R overdrive.. It is NOT the same as setting the KICKDOWN CABLE!!!
Others have said this but very bad camera work, and you didn't explain how to adjust the cable which is what so many of us need. Good explanation but camera too far away and bad picture.
this is a complete crock of shit. gm built millions of tbi engines that did not have a straight shot alignment of the tv cable bracket and the button on the tbi unit itself.
wtf was that
Consult a manual before talk about pressures, ok? Thanks.
