I love the way that there still are normal-sized, exotic sportscars today. Thank you for the informative and enjoyable review as ever Harry. As a quick note, at 5:15 you mentioned that 296 GTB has 740Nm of torque including hybrid. I believe that Ferrari have been quoting the torque of their hybrids (LaFerrari, SF90, 296 GTB/S) from the ICE only.
You’re a brave man, Harry. It looked like a proper handful in those conditions. I think “interesting” is certainly the phrase. I’d have your Lotus every day. £240k is a bit daft too 🤔
Interesting review Harry. I have an MC20 and I agree the fuel gauge is frustrating. My own real world experience is I reckon the software gets it wrong in its estimation, that said it’s not a large tank. I’ve never had problems bottoming out at all. I can’t comment on the cold wet greasy conditions you had to deal with but in the dry I have no problem getting the power down. I actually think the tech is pretty good and modern. As you noted the doors open wider than you think and I’m glad I don’t have carbon fibre sills for the reason you noted. I have to use a small blower battery blower to clear the mess after a decent run. There’s no peer on looks, and if you’re older than 40 (let’s face most buyers are at this price) you don’t look like a peacock trying to show off. Think EVO’s MC20 must have eaten some pasta the day it was weighed 😅
I agree with your post. I'm also an owner and I've not had problems with bottoming out (except for large speed bumps) or putting the traction down. Like most supercar owners- I got my car PPF's before I picked it up, so the dirt that's kicked up through the door aero is less of an issue. The roads that Harry was testing on were more suited for an SUV than a supercar. And the cold, wet weather wasn't exactly a great day for testing. I hope that Harry gives it another chance under better conditions. I love mine regardless.
Harry what tyres was this on. ? It looked like all season/ winters. I think it will be a whole different experience in the dry and warm. Meanwhile a beautiful looking car…
Love the channel, love your reviews Harry. Got to say out of all the new breed of super cars like the Ferrari, Maserati and McLaren with carbon fibre everything and electric motors, can’t help thinking still much prefer the Testarossa. Manual gearbox and three pedals, plus all the usable space. Looking forward to a few bike vids. 👍
Fantastic Review and video as always - Many Thanks indeed Harry. Sorry for a quick change of subject, in your recent previous videos rounding up your cars for the year - do we presume you've sold the 1954 Land Rover, as you haven't mentioned it for ages? The video you did on it many years ago, is the best Series One video on UA-cam by a country mile! Happy New Year and Kind regards.
I remember watching a review by Steve Sutcliffe who seemed to absolutely love the MC20, so it is interesting to have a different point of view here. I really don't understand why they used such a small fuel tank - perhaps to disguise some weight? But then a carbon tubbed V6 you wouldn't expect to be heavy. Harry definitely has a point with the hybrid cars though and the need to replace the battery - it is a real consideration. I understand that LaFerrari owners are now looking at having to pay out $200,000 to replace their cars' battery and there's a waiting period of over a year - the car can't be used without the battery either. Perhaps the Artura and the 296 won't have such an expensive battery, but battery degradation will be a factor, and you can bet that it won't be all that cheap to replace... The MC20 is a gorgeous looking car, albeit not a perfect car.
I don't suppose the winter tyres and wet roads helped with putting the power down. I'm surprised you didn't mention that it was on winters as it would've been a factor. Lovely thing though!
Was it indeed on winter tyres? I was thinking/assuming with her being on summer tyres the lack of traction came as no surprise... Then again not much harder to break traction on winter tyres.
Didn’t get what made this ECOTY this year. Still none the wiser tbh. Don’t get it as a overall winner. Keep up the good work, always enjoy your videos and honest opinions .
Great review, I had one for a week whilst my Pista was being serviced. Found the noise rubbish and the only storage space was compromised by the heat. I thought I was going mad when EVO gave it car of the year. and its at least 100k too expensive....
I wish they had used a V8 for the amazing sound, but of the 3, I think I'd still take the oldest brand's offering of this twin turbo V6 over the hybrids, as you pointed out, in 10 years time I think I'd rather open the garage door to see that shape and hear that ICE whooshing and popping! Thanks Harry!
Is have to agree with some others- this was definitely not the optimal weather, roads and possibly tires to test the MC20. The hybrids with their torque fill would probably be more civilized under these conditions. I took delivery of my MC20 in March and I can say without reservation that it’s a joy to drive and can even be a daily driver in GT mode (except for the fact that you do need two parking spaces due to the dihedral doors). I hope that Harry gives it another chance under better conditions.
Harry I respect and admire your taste! I’m blessed to have both an MC20 & Artura at present with an early USA 296 and Emira incoming. I couldn’t be happier with these mid engine joys. Cielo and GTS next in line 🎉
It is drop dead gorgeous. Despite the testing conditions, this does not seem to be the best of its class. Harry is being a true British gentleman in this case and keeps his verdict very composed. I do believe that this might be perfect just standing still in a car storage gaining age and value.
The Emira is looking to become one of the best bang for buck ones in a long long time. If Harry is chuffed to bits, we'll who am I to disagree😁 I know the Ferrari and Maserati etc are in another class, but still in smiles per miles the Lotus seems to hit the spot.
I'd most likely not by a car like this even if I had the money, but you know what I much appreciate you getting this car in so I can have a "GOOD OLD GANDER " at it. Many thanks Harry.
It would be interesting to see how it goes in more clement conditions, but it won't get its power down as well as the 911 turbo - arguably a more direct rival.
Enjoyed the video Harry. Loved the look of the car in that colour, especially from the back. The back lights are almost identical to the Alpine A110's I noticed. I was wondering what you made of the interior styling as it looked a bit lacking in inspiration to me, though perhaps it has a better impact in the flesh
I was re-reading the EVO car of the year earlier today and was thinking oh I hope Harry reviews the Maserati because he'll weigh it and talk about the weight issue. And then was pleasantly surprised when I loaded up youtube tonight! I'm puzzled though after reading Maserarti's response saying that they had to build in extra strength to the monocoque because of the extra weight of the all electric version. But that doesn't seem right to me if its carbon fibre its just more layers in different directions to add strength it doesn't add 200kg of weight. And how come Mclaren can manage to do it? Something just doesn't ring true to me. I suppose we will never know until someone prangs one and then rebuilds it, Mat Armstrong I'm talking to you! Anyone in the industry have an ideas?
Would have loved to see Harry using this car to its full potential on dry roads. And I wish Maserati had made the engine sound more like the V8 Granturismo unit. A Maserati really needs to have that glorious symphonic sound.
@@JohnFromAccounting - yes, I know it’s better than it seems in recordings and not at all bad for a V6. But is it a match for that V8? I haven’t yet heard an MC20 in real life but I’ve read that it’s not close to the Granturismo for audible drama.

Interesting! Beautiful car, but a few issues and not great on those roads, in that weather - and a different take to the Evo review I watched last week. Thanks Harry.
Interesting indeed - and thanks for referring to the Evo review I just read. Very different takes indeed - frankly from this review I would mark the MC20 as a "fail", to be honest, and Im a Maserati fan and owner. I cant figure why Evo enthused so much over something so heavy, lacking steering feel, with spikey turbo delivery and badly impractical with the doors, undertray and limited storage and range.
@@jonathangillbanks4378 yes definitely very strange compared to the Evo review. The limited range would be a big drawback and this wasn't even mentioned by Evo !? As a competitor my 991.2 Turbo S managed over 400 miles on a tankful back from the Scottish borders to London.
Interesting how EVO absolutely loved this and it looks like Harry has to talk himself into it. One thing is for sure that road trip to see the Pirelli Calendar launch would have been impossible in this. No luggage space, damaged undercarriage and stone chips all down the side of it.
I found myself going head over heels with the design when it was first shown. Turbo V6 isn't really a problem for me to be honest. The price after options is a bit steep though. I'd do without the carbon bits other than the rear decklid spoiler. The rest of it is perfect. Especially in that Blu Infinito, Giallo Genio or Rosso Vincente.
Thanks for bringing us the review of a car that few of us will see Harry. Very pretty car, but I'm not sure this has much relevance in the real world today other than for those that can use this on track or in a very limited subset of places. Reminds me of some of those 1970s more extreme versions of supercars where little focus was placed in driving on real streets, parking.. but they were beautiful and magnificent. I'd take something like the Lotus Evora over this ever single time.
Just the weather. Anything with 2wd and more than 300 horsepower is a handful in the cold and wet. Maserati should have declined the loan until the weather was better.
Spot on Harry with the hybrid comment. These hybrids and EVs are for short term, lease ownership really. Unlike older Ferrari's etc we keep/collect, those battery packs and early systems will be a nightmare once out of warranty

@@gungun24 mainly because I gel with his style better instead of the shouty presenters at EVO and TopGear and most other UA-camrs, but also because he emphasizes the use of cars more as I do myself. His point here comparing with the Artura and 296 explains perfectly my thoughts also. At present he struggles to put the MC20 on top, but in 10yrs time he sees it as a much better car than the 2 other hybrid super cars which would be outdated by tech advances to a much higher degree than this old school Maserati. And his critique of grounding out damaging very expensive carbon fiber parts shows he sees the whole perspective of ownership of such a car and isn’t merely blinded by its shiny bits. That’s why.
I would take this over 296, looks fantastic
Harry what tyres was this on. ? It looked like all season/ winters. I think it will be a whole different experience in the dry and warm. Meanwhile a beautiful looking car…
Looks like a very fun old school type supercar
Rather have a lamborghini huracan tecnica with its
N/A V10
Love the channel, love your reviews Harry. Got to say out of all the new breed of super cars like the Ferrari, Maserati and McLaren with carbon fibre everything and electric motors, can’t help thinking still much prefer the Testarossa. Manual gearbox and three pedals, plus all the usable space. Looking forward to a few bike vids. 👍
Very good choice. 512 TR and Exige S3 410 Owner !
Indeed I also prefer pedals to paddles and analog to digital!
A proper supercar, a rolling work of art. And as much use as a chocolate fireguard in the real world. Good vid Harry.
You know Harry means business when he dons a matching Maserati jumper and blanks out the speedometer! Nice work Harry.
Didn’t get what made this ECOTY this year. Still none the wiser tbh. Don’t get it as a overall winner.
Keep up the good work, always enjoy your videos and honest opinions .
Interior wouldn't look out of place in a Volvo, not much Italian flare going on. Always enjoy seeing Harry hustle a car in 'interesting' conditions.
@harrysgarage surely worth a mention that it's on winter tyres? That makes a hell of a difference to any car.
I love the look of the engine on this. Lovely jacket!
Design wise - it looks like a modern Noble M600 to me. Not a bad thing.
Love how the emira is good enough to be compared with cars costing several times as much
this or an emira with the touring pack plus another emira with the track pack
emira all the way
@@thinfourth WOW thats one way of looking at it , good plan as well !!
The Emira is not on this car's level. Not even close.
Great review, I had one for a week whilst my Pista was being serviced. Found the noise rubbish and the only storage space was compromised by the heat. I thought I was going mad when EVO gave it car of the year. and its at least 100k too expensive....
@Harrys_garage Thought it sounded local a turbo diesel at low speeds and the elephant in the room is surely the residuals ??
The first car to truly turn my head for many years..
Getting a lot of quadrifoglio vibes from this car, all the carbon, undertray wind design, steering wheel design and of course the TT V6
Looks fantastic, a sticker numberplate would be nice, the standard one looks terrible on such a good looking bit of metal
Looks stunning, but alas I would miss the sound of a V8 like my GranTurismo
Is have to agree with some others- this was definitely not the optimal weather, roads and possibly tires to test the MC20. The hybrids with their torque fill would probably be more civilized under these conditions. I took delivery of my MC20 in March and I can say without reservation that it’s a joy to drive and can even be a daily driver in GT mode (except for the fact that you do need two parking spaces due to the dihedral doors). I hope that Harry gives it another chance under better conditions.
I think it being "old school" is why EVO voted it car of the year. Finally an F40 substitute....
I agree that sums it up. Not sure I'd spend the money on one but I'll tip my hat to anyone actually driving it out in the wild.
The review I’ve waited all year for - thanks, Harry!
Brilliant as usual 🥂
It's a beautiful supercar, but do you not think the interior looks kind of cheap/dull for a car of that price?
Always happy to have a Harry review on a Sunday evening
Beautiful car. Prefare this to the others . It looks and sounds stunning.
I'd have the Lotus over any of the others, manual, Toyota V6 and just as good looking as the rest of them. Keep up the good work Lotus.
Great viewing. It make the Emira look amazing value. Granted, the lotus isn’t quite the super car experience but it’s pretty darn close.
I agree, this review just makes the Emira real stand out in value and usability
The Emira is looking to become one of the best bang for buck ones in a long long time. If Harry is chuffed to bits, we'll who am I to disagree😁
I know the Ferrari and Maserati etc are in another class, but still in smiles per miles the Lotus seems to hit the spot.
Totally. For its sheer mass, the MC20 is far too overpriced IMHO.
How do you know?
@@peppemberton9948 I watched Harry’s reviews.
Saw a white one driving around these parts and they're really gorgeous. Definitely my favorite of the three, despite the cons.
Maserati are on a winner here... great car.
I really enjoy these honest reviews. One can remain calm and not long for owning a car like that.
Would have loved to see Harry using this car to its full potential on dry roads. And I wish Maserati had made the engine sound more like the V8 Granturismo unit. A Maserati really needs to have that glorious symphonic sound.
The engine sounds really good. Hard to capture in recording.
@@JohnFromAccounting - yes, I know it’s better than it seems in recordings and not at all bad for a V6. But is it a match for that V8? I haven’t yet heard an MC20 in real life but I’ve read that it’s not close to the Granturismo for audible drama.
@@RichardHartley65 a friend of mine owns a GranTourismo Stradale since new.
While I wouldn't like to own the car from a performance/GT standpoint (not worth due to the running costs, from my pov you get better for the money)... But the engine sound. My god. It is glorious indeed.
Everytime I hear it fire up from cold I wonder how it passed the regulations on noiselevels
have you heard it in real life? everyone. And i mean everyone. Jethro, Harry and all the folk from evo and frankel all said it sounded like a group b car when youre inside it and not that loud outside? Isnt that a good thing? Getting all the sound you want without disturbing others, but not pumping in stereo noise like bmw
@@Voodoo_One - I have a GT myself, albeit not a Stradale, so I’m biased. 😊
I like the look of this car but the novelty logo in the perspex engine cover/rear window looks totally naff. Great review and I enjoyed the Maserati jumper you were wearing!
Good spot. IMO the jumper the nicest things in the video with Maserati branding. 😢
I love it. It's gorgeous and it has modern elements but it's got that old school highly boosted raw engine output to it.
So, basically you can only ever park it where no-one can park on the driver's side, otherwise you might not be getting back in!
Very very nice...needs a nice warm dry day out in scotland
I think Maserati, with the heritage of a vintage timepiece on the dash, have prepared all of us…..for RANGE anxiety 😂
Harry, love your videos to bits but this is not a good day weather wise to be testing such rwd supercar
Evo’s car of the year :)
Stunning looking car but seems to be a bit of an unruly beast to drive. Love it!
Excellent video, as always. This or three Emiras? The carbon sideskirts on the MC20 look too much like aftermarket running boards to my eye.
Harry your videos are the most informative and entertaining your videos make my day everytime I could not figure out how time flies while watching thanks a lot keep it up I hope for you the best please book the new rolls royce electric
Hmm, a car you can't get out of, get in, petrol can handy, carried more muck than a farmers wellies, bottoms out easily, and hates speed bumps. A perfect supercar.
😂😂😂
It looks right at home next to that F40 and F50 though. What a beauty.
Hope you get to have another go on a warmer, drier day. Looks like unfinished business to me.
Impressive car, could be dicey in unfavourable conditions. Great review Harry, love your content and commentary.
Most exciting Maserati since the Merak. They've really picked up their game. Somehow, the Ferraris don't seem so appealing.
You do realise this was to be a reborn Alfa Romeo 8C? FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, announced it in 2018. Now Alfa Romeo will make an hypercar out of it ti be previewed this year. It's gone full circle.
Lol no, Ferrari is absolutely at the top of their game right now, especially with the release of the PuroSangue
@@nastyG184 no chance of the Purosangue being a future classic
Also resembles the Metal to some degree❤
whey belong both to FIAT
Incredible car, the first car to turn my head for many years.
Finally A beautiful looking super car About time !
Great review as always. The infotainment screen looks rather similar as that in my wife's Fiat 500 E La Prima.
Somehow I’ll believe Harry’s verdict more than PCOTY. Now on to the video👌🏻
Why
Don't be silly
That’s why.
A+ to Harry once again and C- to the rest.
@@Nord_Mann Yeah I agree sometimes I feel these magazines are more interested in keeping good relations with certain manufacturers than anything.
@@simons4474 they became irrelevant to me when putting the Toyota on top ahead of Porsche, Maserati, McLaren and Ferrari😂 Was there a Lambo in there too?
Sometimes less is more and this is a perfect example of such statement.
18 minute video's been up 4 minutes with 80 likes.
We've got you Harry
Harry petrol everytime just for the sound!!!
They can keep their hybrids and electric cars thanks.
I would urge everyone to watch the Evo video, in particular Steve Sutcliffe's glowing appraisal...and frankly he should know. Interesting take from Harry but rarely more me, I find myself disagreeing with Harry on this occasion. Incidentally, I have been very fortunate enough to have driven the MC20.
