Major upheavals have left Ellenor (Camryn Manheim), Eugene (Steve Harris) and Jimmy (Michael Badalucco) in charge of the firm. In an attempt to rebuild their ranks, Ellenor hires an old friend: the enigmatic and ethically-challenged Alan Shore (James Spader). Shore's brilliant-yet-highly-unorthodox methods succeed in winning big cases - but will they also threaten the future of the firm?

James Spader is gold. He came onto The Practice and turned a staid show into a hit earning himself an Emmy. His portrayal of Alan Shore was so good David E Kelly wrote Boston Legal for him. The result two further Emmy's. He was asked as a one off guest appearance on The Office and Ricky Gervais loved his portrayal so much he was offered a season. His subsequent portrayal of Reddington in The Blacklist is awesome. James Spader is at the top of the acting tree. There is no-one to match him.
Dude I don't think The Practice would have lasted seven seasons before him if it wasn't already a hit. It had gone downhill the previous couple of seasons though.
I loved the Practice when it started, but when Alan Shore came to the firm, he showed us how dull the others really were. If Alan was the only lawyer in that firm, the show still would've been a hit.
@caporal pistachio thank God for that
transition in this case was good
The practice have 8 season while Boston legal which gravitate around Alan Shore (mainly) have only 5.
@@jonathanseguin2638 bachelor 25 seasons, the newsroom 3 seasons. Longevity doesn’t necessarily mean quality.
@@jonathanseguin2638 Except Boston Legal was never supposed to exist. Alan Shore was brought in to end The Practice.
Spader was so good that ABC told Kelley to make a new series around him - Boston Legal. No sales pitch needed, no pilot.
James Spader is the best actor I've ever seen.
James Spader is awesome.
I love the man in your profile picture
Pity he started that boring show after BL. He should have made 10 seasons instead.
That he is
I actually loved him in Age of Ultron. Not the best movie, I know, but....he made the villain work, I think.
great presence, that's for sure
The best part of this entire series......Alan kicking out the other a**holes and putting his own name on the door. And he was just getting started! He was even better in Boston Legal!
I want to be Alan! Smart ass, Smart and a F-You attitude. Damn the torpedoes.
2/3 of the way there. I'm not as smart as he is, but I've come REAL close to suing big and winning. But to avoid that, they just gave me what I wanted 😁
If ever there was a defining moment that Alan and Red was the same character this was it.
I loved this show so much. James Spader was the boss.
And jessica capshaw looked so pretty in this show too...
Bonnzilla James stole this show
You mean you loved Boston Legal. :P
@Bob I don't give a fu#k! I said the person who posted this loved BL! What does that have to do with Jessica whatever? :) James Spader was a god! The rest, believe me: I don't even know their name, nor do I care! Except for Christian Clemenson (Jerry Espensen), he was a demigod! ;)
I'm amazed I don't have dislikes to the later post by now! And I really tried! :/ To be honest, I hate talking like that, but I hate retards who behave like that just for the f#ck of it even more. It was a simple deduction anyone who's seen The Practice and Boston Legal would have got without much fuss. But I don't mind fuss if we must have it! ^^
"I'm persuaded" haha
See, this is what you call....uber pwnage.
This was Alan's "mic drop" moment. The way he says it, then walks off without saying another word... Genius!
when bobby and hellen left the show i started looking for something else to watch then allan came in and nothing else on tv was ever the same .... then BOSTON LEGAL happened and i got fuzzy feeling inside me ... the closest I have ever come to being in love
I love what James Spader brought to the show: new life! The fact was the show was going downhill in ratings and in quality, and becoming more accustomed to melodrama and TV clichés-- and especially since the studio fired Dylan McDermott, Kelli Williams, Lara Flynn Boyle and a whole chunk of the cast and crew, over salary and contract disputes(and scaling back production cost), the rest of the production and cast had to abruptly compensate for a story that no longer fit the show’s roster; in comes James Spader-- along with a precession of special guest star appearances from current Hollywood stars -- to save the show. The fictional story of Alan saving the firm by being the “big money” star is exactly what was happening in real life with James Spader joining the cast. And as it stands, despite the next show being only 5 season, Boston Legal was principally based on James Spader’s (and subsequently William Shatner’s) performance being so successful in The Practice. One of the biggest criticisms of the show was its gritty nature that made it a hit initially; it did so way being a darker, almost thriller, legal drama that the production seemed to be stuck in that niche-- meanwhile despite the award nominating and winning performances, the story and characters didn’t develop in ways that would demonstrate an evolving story and or, exploring it’s obviously nuanced characters. For me, Alan Shore’s character, who essentially ended the firm, was like giving this show the mercy killing it needed; of course his character didn’t literally end the firm, but figuratively showed just how jaded and stunted all the characters had become(both in and outside of the story)-- and led to all of them wanting to do what their characters desired since Bobby and Lindsey “left”-- finally, leave the firm themselves.
All they had to do was fucking give him his slice.
Hard to do if they already spent it
@@GodwynDiThat's their fault.
James spader
LEGEND
alan shore is my man
he's married to danny don't do it.
Alan Shore ! Jim Spader ! 👍👍💯🥇
I went into watching the practice with a very low opinion of lawyers and somehow this show made me despise them even more. By the end of season six, I was actively rooting against Bobby, Lindsay, Eugene and Ellenor. The only one I could halfway stand was Jimmy. They flipped the script and got rid of Bobby and Lindsay just in time. Bringing in Spader was a genius move which made watching the final season less of a chore.
I ordered it back in January when it was first announced. I absolutely can't wait for this Tuesday. :)
And thus...there into the night went The Practice.
A character so good he got a spin-off series while the original got cancelled. Lol.
if Sheldon Cooper was a lawyer, he'd be Alan Shore.
can you imagine an Alan Shore reboot in today's political/social climate?
It's a cruel world, and entertainment is no exception. It's business🙂 All tv shows come to an end, this one (The Practice) had a finale with a true end, it doesn't happen very often, usually series get cancelled, period. IMO
It's funny how after Dylan McDermott and his character Bobby Donnell left the show the rest of them became so unlikable... at least to me.
: They were all designed as a Star Trek Voyager type of support cast, there to make the leads, Mr. Not-Duchovny white knight and Ms. Icy-But-Passionate, look good by contrast. When the two McSexies made their exit, there wasn't enough there between them all to carry the show. They were relatively dull by design, though that is no fault or reflection of the actors and actresses, all of whom did yeoman's work for the show and did it very well. They became more unlikeable, except for Ellenor but especially Eugene. With the ratings lowering prior to the McSexies' firing, the writing was kinda on the wall, but Spader's Shore, Mitra's Tara, and Shatner DennyCrane were recognized as chemistry that worked, and so Kelley engineered the spin-off. It worked out amazingly well.
And he wasn’t likeable which I guess is why everyone was cheering for Alan shore
: Eugene just did it to himself, the whole way, not to mention did it to everyone else. Also, poor Jimmy.
And he got rewarded with judgeship
And Jimmy decided to go gangster with the Sopranos...
Come to think of it, it didn't go well there either! LOL!
Don't fuck with James Spader... Raymond Reddington.....
One thing this clip does not reflect, which even lawyers sometimes forget, is that lawyers do not own clients. Clients have an absolute right to switch lawyers any time they want, and judges can be fierce in protecting that right. Sneaking into the office and taking a client's files as a way of keeping them is a big no no.
That would depend upon the agreement between the attorneys concerning ownership of the clients. Here we do not know what agreement, if any, exists between Shore and the firm.
As you said, clients van go where they want. The firm also can't deny him access to his clients.
@@JamesSmith-gn9ouThere was no contract. Therefore, Eugene was in the complete wrong in just outright firing Alan and keeping Alan's clients for himself. He was lucky to become a judge, and Alan forgoing the jury's verdict.
Spader is Spider man
Actually, it's not trespassing until the rightful owner of the property tells you to leave and you refuse.
I miss Marla Sokoloff.
I was thinking that too! Where is Marla nowadays?
@@ATLienForLife she was on the full house reboot
@@bfg3890 Thanks
I always hated every single character in the Practice. It was a dreadful show. Alan Shore, interesting/charming/oddly lovable made all the other characters standout as true boring pieces of shit.
Denny Crane
Then why did you watch it
I disliked the Practice intensely and I disliked every character. I stomached maybe half a dozen episodes before I gave up. They all were so sleazy and got away with such filth. The ratings began to drop, they brought in James Spader and I fell in love. The ratings improved but it was too late. Then they went with Boston Legal, Alan Shore (Spader) got fired from the Practice, went to Boston Legal, I followed him and it was great! I agree with DeJaneiro - The Practice was a dreadful show.
I remember Practice seemed so boring I hardly watched THEN Alan Shore came and I started watching every episode and followed him to Boston legal then reddington.
And he won
I feel pretty dumb...I didn't know James played a lawyer on another show besides Boston Legal. I've heard of The Practice, but I've never watched it.
James Spader, aka Alan Shore was brought into the Practice for it's last season (8), and then when The Practice was canceled, he moved onto Boston Legal.
I think he's one of the few Actors/Characters to star in 2 separate shows, playing the same character, and actually winning awards for it (Emmys I think).
Phenomenal.
What was the result of the trial did Allen get his money or how much did he get?
He won the case...don't remember the settlement, but afterwards he said he did not want the money...
Essentially he would have bankrupt the firm had he taken the money he won in the civil court case. This close call, Which among other changes, then led the all the main characters to rethinking what they wanted out of life and finally deciding to dissolve the firm and go their separate ways.
Finally the firm also gets bankrupted & closes down after Alan leaves. It was mentioned in Boston Legal.
Will Camryn Manheim play Sarah Sanders in the movie Trump?
❤

I have never seen a black man exercise so much control in the face of extreme provocation.
I do believe Denzel has done it on several occasions. Just saying.
@Gan Len I agree. But were you saying the clip was awkwardly racist or yinkoos, the person who posted the comment?
@Gan Len Yep, we"re on the same page.
Wow... First of all, I don’t think your statement is racist in anyway. But I do believe it’s a gross over generalization. You speak as though you know all of us.
Gan Len I know what racism is,, and no, not because I am black. Because I understand the concept of racism, beliefs of racial superiority and the likes. Perhaps you have a different understanding of it, which is your right.
Awful show the only good actors were Alan Tara an deny the rest are not worth watching
It's amazing how people love certain people who are criminals, but are then self righteous with others. I personally hated the Alan Shore character. James Spader is such a one-dimensional actor.
I lost all respect for the creators of this show and James Spader as an actor. Why James Spader? Because he is a one-dimensional actor who seriously lack range. I actually liked him as an actor before watching season 8, but he plays the same character in everything. The creators of the show are to blame for the distasteful last season. They totally dishonored the very team of lawyers they caused us to cheer for. They made them weak and ineffective in the end, all for the purpose of making James Spader character reign supreme. They could have honored those characters in the end. They seemed to particularly make Eugene less effective. He was totally unrecognizable. It was an extremely disappointing last season.
I really hated the last season of The Practice. They should’ve just ended it at 7. Instead they got rid of half the cast and turned the other half into the primary antagonists for the new lead role (who’s own spinoff show didn’t last as long as The Practice did).
