A role like Alan Shore could go so terribly but James Spader elevates it to another level. If someone else played Alan Shore, there is the potential for him to be uncouth, vulgar and honestly make a persons skin crawl. But James Spader plays him with such finesse and grace. Alan Shore is a Magnificent Bastard to the highest degree.

She calls him arrogant but she is the one insulting someone who outclassed her every time. As for being corrupt, where is her evidence? This is based on an actual event. On March 8, 2004, Todd Bertuzzi grabbed the back of Steve Moore's jersey and punched him in the back of the head. As Moore fell unconscious to the ice, Bertuzzi followed him to the ice with his forearm on the back of Moore's head, driving it into the ice. This resulted in 3 fractured vertebrae and a concussion for Moore. Bertuzzi was suspended for 20 games and forfeited over half a million dollars in salary.
Moore attempted to come back to the game, skating in practices and working out with the team. He continued to suffer chronic concussion symptoms, and he never played professional hockey again.
I've loved hockey since I was a kid. I play hockey as a goalie. Sometimes there are fights, but the Bertuzzi/Moore incident (and this fictionalization of it) was premeditated battery. However, some good has come from it, even if it isn't a direct cause-effect relationship. Fighting in the NHL is way down, next to eliminated. It occasionally happens still, but not nearly as often as it used to. Of course, there are some mouthbreathers who lament this as the death of "old-fashioned, hardnosed hockey" or some sort of "softening" of the sport. Me? I'm glad that all professional sports are finally taking head trauma seriously. CTE kills.

@@jeronimo196 I rewatched Boston Legal a few years ago. Despite the very good writing and very good acting, there are many parts that have become very uncomfortable to watch. Both Alan and Denny are practically sexual predators, frequently harassing and even assaulting women. Of course, playing top lawyers at a high-end law firm, such behaviour can hardly be considered surprising, but it isn't the kind of thing we can just brush aside anymore.
And the fact that we are more conscious of this now compared to then isn't diminishment: it's maturing.

@@nicholassmith7984 you find some parts uncomfortable to watch - I understand that.
Nevertheless, those parts are both true to life as it was then and evoking strong emotions. So, the question is, would it be a better show if those parts were sanitized?
      I think not.
Contrast with "The Boys" S2. Extremely edgy R-rated show, blood and gore everywhere. Stormfront is a super-powered surviving nazi, evil enough to kill entire black families - yet not evil enough to say "nigger".
In a way, according to Amazon's guidelines of storytelling, I've just committed more racism in the youtube comment section, than Stormfront could ever do in their show.
