I love my Remington 700 in 22-250 with a big heavy bull barrel and upgraded trigger. Got it sighted in at 150 (typical groundhog range on the farm) with some Winchester whitebox 45gr and it will put them in the same hole out to 200 no problem. Even out to 300 it is still a hide or hair hold on a groundhog, fox, or coyote and boy does it leave them dead on impact

I shoot .17g Hornandy VMax and have been doing head shots on prairie dogs, and a few coyotes, out to 150 yards with pin point accuracy. Less recoil and cheaper rounds. I still take my 22-250 and .243 with me for shits and giggles but it's so much fun shooting the .17.

I was spotting for a buddy of mine on a groundhog hunt and watched him fwop a very small groundhog at 476 yards (we used a laser rangefinder) with a 3-5 mph crosswind. The rifle was a Remington 700 chambered in 22-250 and was an exceptional shooter. The pig was aft-end-on to us and that bullet went right up Main Street. Beautiful shooting gun, quite the little murder hornet.

hey buddy..100 yds??? bullet hits for sound is heard. u touch the trigger??? hundredth of a second bullets at 100 yards!! I learned in bullet reloading that fps conversion to MPH?? simple.. devide fps by 1.42== mph... speed of sound is roughly 750 mph.. equals 1120 fps.. so a 22-250 rd at 3700 fps??? equals around 2500 MPH!!! dwell on that for speed 😮

Good vid, at the end of the day it all depends on the ammo . A quick light projectile will shoot flat to 200-300 yards rhen drop off like a stone, and a heavy high BC projectile will drop a little more at 2-300 then be way better Than the light projectile further down the track. Also 3450 is pretty slow for a 60gr, I had my .223 shooting a 60gr at 3250, load data says 3600 is possible for a 22-250

Can you do a bullet drop video on the 450 Bushmaster 250 grain Hornady which is the most common round available?? The only reason I’m asking is most Midwest states (traditionally known as shotgun only states) have now allowed straight walled cartridges of which the 450 is one of the favorites. Please and thanks.

I am a huge fan of the .22-250 with years of experience using them. I own 2, one an "out of the box" Rem 700V, topped with a Leupold fixed 10X. With Rem factory loads does 1/2" @ 100 yards 5 shot groups dependably all day. The other is a 1960 technology Bench Rifle built from a Mauser action, Wood Bench stock floated, and pillar bedded (by me), Hart Barrel, Canjar 2oz. trigger ( for field use UNSAFE until over 4oz trigger setting, I set to 6oz for safety but still only load a round when ready to fire) topped with a Lyman Super Target Spot with the 45X conversion from 15X originally. This rifle does that 1/2" 5 shot group at 200 yds, and has on a good day done groups of 3/8" @ 200 with my handloads. No sir, you will find that .22-250 should be running 3600 - 3650 fps velocity. < this in the day was a factory loading and was normal.
Refering to this video my experience shows about 1" drop at 200 yards, and 1" high at 100 if zeroed at 200 yards.
I watch these videos of happy shooters with a POS rifle I would not keep if I had ANY groups larger than 1" at 100 yards. Frankly I find the accuracy of these modern rifles and budget rifles appalling ! I have only ever own 1 rifle that did not meet my 1" spec @ 100 yds in my entire 60 year life. That a Ruger #1 in .25-06. A TRUE piece of garbage, it would never shoot 1 1/4", and each time going back to the range the POI had changed and the scope needed re-zero'd. I sold that garbage for only $400 to get it out of my mind, I tried very extensive work on the cases to make PERFECT max'd out cases to load and never could get even a lousy 1" group @ 100 yds. Inside / outside case neck truing, primer pocket work, even confirmed the case volume was selected to be equal in all cases for testing. That Ruger #1 was the most aggravating rifle I ever owned.
I do see you other video of better groups from the 250. In general you will learn when searching for rifle accuracy as close to MAX loads as is safe is where you find the best accuracy. That in general is across the board of all calibers. Run them as hot as is safe. BUT FIRST you must have or fix a capable rifle.
For Varmint hunting that .22-250 is among the best choice you can have. Long reach. My best shot of record (witnessed also) was just beyond 600 yds on a Coyote with a strip mine wall background for safety. Believe it or not the 250 hit that Coyote like a Deer Rifle. A solid hit dead center chest head on. The coyote flew in the air, 3 summer salts backward. When I drove down there the bullet had run the entire length of the body and out the rear. My handload *55*(edited) grain Sierra Match King bullet IMR 4895 powder @ 3600fps. < you can figure it out : )
I could tell of many advances I learned with the 250 and ONE MAJOR technical advancement that was remarkable and also lower chamber pressure. A clue ..... the 250 likes the bullet to jump. hehehe only a few know what I mean : )
    * Edit: Sorry my mistake .... the Mauser Bench Rifle likes *53 gr MATCH KING, the Rem 700V likes 55 grain Sierra GameKing. And Yes, I share something useful you may be glad to know. I also zero at 100 yds as YOU say. I take a piece of card material and write down amount of drop in inches and clicks on the scope needed for each later 100 yds. Wrap it around the scope tube, cover it with clear tape to preserve. A ready reference !
I do this on ALL my rifles. I do NOT do "Kentucky Windage". I move the scope for different ranges and do NOT change my hold over or under EVER.
    * I will ONLY take a shot to a maximum distance I KNOW my rifle is capable of 3" groups. If not 3" I do not feel it is ethical when not only shooting on paper.
You have some cool ideas, ACTUAL experience is always the best Sir as you show.
I add also, I was a 1000 yard Match Shooter for 17 years or so. 1998 had a max'd out AR built for the National Matches 1000 yd.. $2300.00 in parts cost alone rifle ONLY. The .22 caliber bullet just does not buck the wind as the 30 caliber does better. My very expensive .22 rifle was a wasted idea. Back to the accurized "de'milled" M14. De- milled used to mean that the full auto capability was de activated permanently. Though I began with the M1 Garand .30-06. Funny the "Wisemen" say the .308 is the "ballistic equivalent" of the .30-06. Hahaha .30-06 drops 11 feet @ 1000yd while the "equivalent" .308 drops 33 feet !
(that with issued ammo for the match)
ACTUAL EXPERIENCE Sir, always best : )

BC. is a guide. Bullet length and bullet weight is a factor. Barrel length and twist rate is a factor. Quality of the casings and repeatable powder grains is a factor. Elevation is a factor. Temperature is a factor. Wind is a factor. Humidity is a factor. Earth rotation is a factor. But then there is gravity. The ultimate factor. I like your videos. Keep up the good work. It is informational.

The box said "Interlock" which would make it a Hornady bullet. They list the BC of .264 which would make your trajectory flatter. Good luck on all your hunts. I am hoping to go next week during "primitive" season, been doing prep for a couple of months.
If you have coyotes where you hunt it's like the old cigarette saying, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em." Same for hogs.

I can honestly say that I was not surprised by the 50 yard shot. It did drop a bit more at 200 than I thought it would. Different loads and bullet weights would probably give different results.

    • @galaxys7650

Different loads and/or weights would give much different results, for sure. More shooting and trigger time would also help. If he spent some time behind that thing, theres no reason he shouldnt be able to shoot a tighter group out at 200.

Mr. Who-Tee-Who, that 22-250 is 1 heck of Deer killing cartridge out to 200yds. maybe even beyond, I prefer to use it out to 200yds. I call mine the 1-stepper. Meaning after a Deer is hit with that caliber it takes 1 step and drops, I have never had to trail a deer after being hit with that caliber. Liked that caliber immensely, Killed a good number of Deer with it, and several boat loads of woodchucks, prairie dogs & numerous other rodent animals. Had to re-barrel 1 of my 22-250's. Shot the barrel out of it, couldn't hold a group anymore with it, after re-barreling it back to .5" - 5 shot groups and smaller if I could hold it steady off of a bench. The p-dogs were shot in South Dakota.

.22-250's are flat-shooting lasers. Most are either 1:12 or 1:9 rifling. (Both are great, just for different purposes) Perhaps a GREAT test would be: Using 2 identical rifles, except for their rifling, shoot what they like, (50 grain in the 1:12 & 55 grain in the 1:9), but then SWAP the ammos & document the differences in accuracy! I think that would be an ultimate test of our beloved caliber. Thanks for ALL of your efforts & the expenses you incur!

Traded inmy 22-250 for a howa 6.5 creedmoor shb in oryx chassis and will use .243 to shoot 55gr and 95gr, 55 for varmints out at distsnce 6.5cm for anything bigger than what the 95gr can handle. Was an axis that i traded in so was happy to upgrade that rifle always thought it would be to another 22-250 though but no. Thought id jump on the 6.5 band wagon.

    • @lunam7249

Very good! Yes, that is called barrel parallax....draw a line thru the scope and thru the barrel, now point the rifle up 1.5 inches at 100 yards...the line from the scope will cut the barrel line twice!...ignor that and zero at 200 yards! I zero at 300....just because I know I will hit 3 inches high under 200 yards...

It's a great round, but not the straight line laser people make it out to be.
Any varmint round doing the 3500 fps at varmint ranges is only governed by wind drift and terminal energy.
Drops are pretty much the same at hunting ranges.
    Good vid.👍

  • @chasesantiago3176

I can tell that rifle doesn’t like that aguila ammo very much. With that rifle, you should be punching same hole at 100 and at 200 get a group the size of a dime or smaller. My preference is the hornady V-Max 50grain. 4000fps and shoots extremely flat out to 300yds on a calm day. But if it’s windy I’ll got with a 55-60 grain Remington JSP.

22-250 only has 11 inch drop at 400yds when zeroed for point blank range with a 4 inch target shooting 40 or 50gr bullets. Which means I can hold dead on to around 325 and only be either 2 inches high or 2 inches low and then at 350 and 400 I can hold right on or above the coyotes back and nail him. Point blank range zero can drastically reduce drop by shifting the trajectory up in relation to the sight

My theory is those cheap 60 grains are slow enough that they performed more like a 223, the hornady 55 grain go 3,680 fps I would like to see those or the 50 grain supposedly going 4,000 fps they claim to not drop much until 250 yards, I'd like to see this done with different ammo but I sighted mine in at 50 yards yesterday so I'll have to see my own results at 100 and 200, might make a few adjustments and sight in at 100
