So my son ( 11 yr old ) and I went fire arm shopping this weekend. We ended up setting a appointment for father son fire arm safety course. The boy really wants a mini 14 in 223 . He said he can skip the 10/22 and go straight into the big boy rounds🤗😎makes a daddy proud!!!

Tell him he's a good boy then buy him it for his birthday /christmas along with a couple of cases of ammo (if he's like I was as a kid then that won't be enough ammo) , so maybe the 10/22 is a better idea to start with, just so he can get more range time in (unless Your loaded and money's no object ) in which case buy him both ! .

C Kim Yeah, if you want to penetrate hard things like Rock or Ceramic you need something with a big diameter and mass to break it.
The Pircing like a nail through butter ( thats what a solid bullet does to steel by bushing it to the side ) doesnt work here, because rock is to hard so the bullet gets damaged, and also it isnt compressible so the material has nowhere to go.

Here's something to think about. In karate tournaments we knew when breaking concrete that dry blocks broke easier. I wonder if it's as significant regarding bullets? Dry blocks vs wet ones. It makes a tremendous difference on the knuckles, sometimes refusing to break. ( the blocks not the knuckles). The wet one would need to be soaked for 5 min. or longer.

The faster 22-250 terminally damaged the 55 grain bullet at the higher velocity and RPM's so it would not go any deeper. Only do greater damage to the paver when it hit. More than the slower 223 with the same type and weight bullet. Thanks for posting your video. How about the 500 S&W magnum and 454 Casull and 44 magnum in paper plates?

Me three!! You can't get 22-250 in many flavors.. I think Hornady offers a 38 grain... But it would be nice to see it with something that could penetrate. Something solid moving at almost 4k fps.. that would really be something. Kind of like 22 pellets being shot from a 22 bolt action using Ramset loads. That is very impressive. Taofladermous did that. Really unexpected results

I did however contribute to the wear by handloading barn burners in the 243, but the instant mist, or disappearance of the critter(or part of the critter) was just to much for me to stop!🤷‍♂️

Might want to stretch that out to around 300 or 400 for the 22-250 to make it interesting.

I love both rounds, but I think .22-250 had a slight disadvantage being soft point in this video. Idk it’s just a thought but maybe it would’ve been different with a FMJ over the SP

The limitation here is all about the projectile itself. That 55 gr. pill absolutely absolutely self-destructs against concrete at anything above a set velocity. More MASS is needed to defeat hard cover. This is why there are still so many old-school guys who continue to preach the superiority of 7.62 vs. 5.56 in the real world.

How many pavers would a 223/ 556 green tip penetrate?
