    The new Sako model 90 has a few upgrades from the previous Sako model 85 including a smoother action, faster lock time, 5 preset adjustable trigger, redesigned ejection port and duel plungers on the bolt. The rifle initially had some fliers out of each 5-shot group but settled in nicely with Sellier & Bellot 55gr SBT shooting a sub-moa 0.6" group @ 100 yards. The finish and feel is a typical Sako, high quality and a pleasure to shoot.The model 90 comes in various calibres including 222, 223, 243, 6.5, 7mm08 & 308, and new versions being the Adventure, Bavarian, Hunter Stainless, Peak, Quest and the Varmint Laminated Stainless.

      I had a Sako in the late 70's and had to use it as a Crutch because I broke my ankle while coyote hunting and had to use it to get back to the truck and off to the hospital to get a cast because it was broken so bad. The stock was very scratched up from rocks and sagebrush but it more less saved my life because the temperature was in the low 30s. I enjoy watching your channel.

    Nice review that shows a quality built rifle. Weird that there isnt even one downside to it though, was waiting for you to find something. Being a varmint it could have a lighter trigger weight preset, then I guess you could get the set option.
    Also no real explanation as to why first 3 groups had a flyer and then the 4th redo. Then the very last one didn't, has to be a reason or it's a downside.
    Great vid and well done on a fantastic channel 👍

  • @kawarthaohio5507
    @kawarthaohio5507 10 місяців тому +1

    Nice review, as always! I suspect that you would get better consistency if you tried a greater variety of factory ammo to find some your rifle really likes, or reloaded and carefully worked up your loads; frankly, some manufacturers produce better quality/more consistent ammo than others and cost isn't always a predictor of consistency. Lots of manufacturers "guarantee" rifles with 1 MOA accuracy out of the box, but, in my experience, that is usually very ammo-dependent, especially as most traditionally constructed hunting bullets (as opposed to things like the Berger VLD hunting bullets etc.) are not designed for pinpoint accuracy, but rather with terminal ballistics in mind and capable of "good enough" accuracy to get the job done. Match bullets are a different breed...

  • @jbsports3422
    @jbsports3422 11 місяців тому +5

    "rifle settling in" - did you re-torque the receiver screws before taking it out? You can't trust the groups until you know the action is torqued down correctly, and from the factory, they often aren't. My 85 22-250 shoots the Sako Gameheads into half an inch, and handloads into one hole. It'll hit a 4 inch gong at 400yds all day long.

    Great review and love watching you put these guns through the ringer.
    So far I have not seen the Sako 90 yet. But last year I did have a 30-06 in the 85 action. But I was one of those who experienced an ejection issue and even though I changed the spring on the extractor claw nothing helped so I got rid of it. I live and hunt in western Canada where we have a good grizzly population so I needed a gun that functions perfectly.
    Loved the action, accuracy and smooth bolt operation etc but when a fired case gets hung up in the action that is not good enough for me at the price point these guns are at. It is Jan 1 2024 and I’ve yet to see a 90 in a 270 or 30-06 etc. Only short action and 7mm Rem/300 WM. But they come in at 8.2lbs. Too heavy. Can’t understand why Sako didn’t put the 90 in a Finnlight model?

    And when it comes to sellier bellot their ammo is pretty much hit or miss depending
    did you get good or shitty box from loaded patch. Couple boxes shot 2cm group at 100 meters
    from old 75 30-06. But then lates box made me wonder how it is even possible to have
    5-10cm group shot from same rifle and same shooter.
    Luckily had couple rounds left from old box which confirmed ammo issue.
    Buddy also had similiar problems with his winchester .308 groups were unacceptable
    when sako range from same rifle did less than 2cm group.,
    So for some time i have used their ammo just for pistol and AR when shooting
    steel. They have higher end match quality ammo line but those are so much
    more expensive that it is pretty much same to buy lapua stuff instead.

    I saw several Sako90's today in the flesh, can't understand why they retired the 85 series.
    Sako have removed their Controlled round feed feature, a whitish alloy looking trigger guard with a trigger adjustment system that looks as if it was pinched off a cz600 series.
    Take down bolt shroud which looks borrowed from a cz550 bolt action.
    And that tinny looking bolt handle it appears to be a cheaper rifle

    Don't expect .3 groups with factory ammo.

      The only problem with using match grade ammo it's not usable in the real world. I use cheap nasty hunting ammo in a Tikka 308 and at 100 shoots half inch. No point testing ammo you would never use in a hunting rifle jmo

      that much is true but one could argue that it's a much more reliable rifle and better made than the howa. don't get me wrong, i love the howas, but if i was offered the two, i'd choose the sako.

      @@TheKetamineSquid there is nothing wrong with a howa. Its basicly a rem700 system. My 6.5 grendel shot lights out and it was 1/5th the price of this rifle out of the box. Gave me money inbetween for a killer scope. The SAKO goes for like 4500 usd, if i translate the currency from swedish SEK.
