Paul- so happy to see you back. You're one of my favorite folks and I was quite worried about you! Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your foot. Your garden looks glorious as always. I just love your azaleas and clematis. I used to live in a 7b (8 micro) climate, until I moved to an apartment in Alaska 15 years ago. I miss being able to garden, so I live vicariously through you. I am always thrilled with the true joy on your face of the successful fruition of your trial and error. I remember all too well what that was like... especially when you've nurtured something through a cold snap like your tropical garden and it's just wait and see. I very much am in agreement with your approach to things. I also had a little pond for my birdies and animals and fish. It's such a lovely thing to be in harmony with nature and create a bit of heaven in your home. I love your bird videos, they're very sweet. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share.
Hi Joy, thank you for your lovely message, I am doing well with things improving. I am so pleased you enjoy the plants and birds in my garden and hope you get to experience the glorious Alaskan wildlife. Your message is very encouraging - thank you.
Hi Paul, greetings from California, have missed you, your beautiful garden and Mr. Robin. I hope you are well soon. Your plants have missed you too, even the dreaded clippers! 😂 It looks like they are putting on an extra show of flowers to lure you back! Take care! 20:07
Hi Paul!!! I was just thinking about you and the garden the last few days and here you are posting. I sure hope your foot heals well and so we go!!!! Cheers and welcome back!

Hooray - you're back! It has been one of those years - we too have had ;things;. Thank you for posting again Paul, I know all your others by heart almost! Garden looks gorgeous, of course. Mine's a hole; storms, why life??(!) and now building repairs. Love photinias have 6. PS A local c. Montana grows up a telegraph pole and along the cable across the garden.
Hi Wendy, yep, I'm half-back ;-) still half to go. Let's hope the weather settles in May. That sounds brilliant the Montana traversing the garden on a high-wire!
Good morning Alicia, that’s very nice of you - I am going to try and take more videos this Summer. I also have a small second channel if you would like to have a look. Bird Spectacular - Massive 34 foot Spring Tide at Parkgate, Wirral, UK ua-cam.com/video/RAswU_Wenik/v-deo.html
Welcome back Paul we missed you we’re glad you’re back thank you for sharing your beautiful garden lots of beautiful colorful flowers. Love from Washington State 👍😊❤️🙏🌷
This could be a primer on both how to make the right companion planting choices and successful naturalistic planting method. Everything looks great with shaggy hair!
Magnificent as ever! That Avalanche - Wow! So glad you're back and take care of your foot. Here in Virginia we are hitting that moment when Spring is trying to leap into summer a couple of days at a time (high 80s to 90😮 and then back to 70s, 60s.) I do think I'm past the pesky frosts now 🤞 though. 💚
Normally we’re past the frosts but some of the countryside has dipped to just on freezing some nights. High 90s - wow! We’d struggle in Summer to attain those dizzy heights 😀 Foot is doing well, thank you.

Great to have another video of your beautiful garden, always brings a lot of joy. I love your azaleas! I hope your foot heals well and you are back gardening again soon.
Thank you Marianne, I’m so glad you enjoy the garden and of course those azaleas. I’m rather tentatively getting back in the garden, so all is progressing 👍
Hi Paul, little did I know that having asked you about my Angel Trumpet you would be posting. I am going to bring it in the house as I am concerned about overnight temperatures. I note that all your hostas are nice and clean...no slugs and snails 😊 Always enjoy a tour round your garden. I hope the trouble with your foot is on the mend 😊😊😊😊
Our nighttime temperatures have been a bit low for these plants, I have a few cuttings that were outside but I've now put them in the porch - surely warm night times are on the way. It is lovely to see the hostas like this before the slugs find them! Thank you, my foot is getting better by the day - so hopefully the garden will receive some attention ;-)
Glad to see you back. Hope the trouble with your foot wasn't too serious. Here in northern France we have had the worst spring time ever: rain pouring down, floods and strong winds; a real feast for those who like it. I didn't as we have lost a lot of time in the garden. So don't worry if you didn't take so much care of your garden because if your weather conditions were as poor as ours, you have not lost much time.
We’ve both probably suffered the same ‘low’ weather systems and weird jet stream patterns. Thank you - the foot will sort itself out for a while at least - so all good. 👍
Nice to see you again, garden looks wonderful, as always, even left to it's devices. Sorry to hear you had an issue with your foot, I know all too well what that's like. As yrs ago I dropped a huge slab of flagstone on the top of one of mine, I was barefooted 🙄 Hope you get the time to get back to the garden.
Lovely to see you back in the garden Paul! I do hope your foot is healing well. Your garden is looking beautiful - so much colour from all those azaleas! I’m looking forward to a back garden tour, and in the meantime, take good care 😊👍
Hi Paul, welcome back. Garden looks glorious, some fantastic colours. Love clematis. My brugmansia cuttings in the potting shed were completely frozen a few times. I lost my nerve and took them indoors. I’m pleased to say they all survived:)
It is really good to see you back , Paul. I hope the foot is ok! Your garden can manage for a while without you. You have an amazing collection of azaleas. My mostly perennial borders really haven’t done well without that tlc during the winter and early spring. The lawns are wet and mossy. Everything needs attention that I can ‘t give at present. But nature makes everything grow again without me. Best wishes.Evie.
Thank you Evie. I was going to have a go at scarifying the lawn and giving it a moss treatment but I’ve had to put that on hold for a little while. Foot doing well though!
How nice to see you and your garden again! Even without your usual fastidious plant grooming, your garden looks lovely, the azaleas in particular. I have one deep pink deciduous one and the fragrance perfumes my entire back yard. I would love to have many more as you do. Your clematis Montana has always been a favorite of mine; so pretty. Hope your foot issue is resolved soon. Looking forward to see your lovely back garden.
Welcome back. it is good to see you and your garden. The garden is looking magnificent. The Avalanche clematis does not seem to mind the pot. It looks amazing. Severe Spring envy, Paul. We turned cold these last 2 weeks... of course! I have been looking at all the daffodils and tulips in the northern sphere and don't newly leafed hostas welcome the new season with their beautiful foliage. I have a new appreciation for brunneras at the moment, yours are flowering really well and so tall. I am going to put some more in new Spring. Hope your foot is ok and has healed.... so you can film again ! 😄
Thank you Margaret. I’m liking hostas more and more - their fast growing new shoots early on is seeing the garden grow in front of your eyes. I’m relatively new to brunnera and think they’re perfect for ‘difficult’ places. Hope you have a mild Autumn. Foot doing well thank you - just a bit of a limp 😀
I saw a garden on youtube that had a whole bank of self seeded brunnera, but I am not that lucky. I have had a few for 10 years and they have only produced two tiny little plants. Very expensive at the nursery if you need a mass planting. Maybe we are too dry and hey, we are not known for our fertile soils!! In reverse the hostas were looking lovely then overnight they are yellow and flat. All is not bad in Autumn, I am doing heaps of work ready for the delayed gratification of Spring. Division time! Hope to see your Spring and Summer garden soon. Please take us along on any propagation adventures that you take on.
@@margaretmichelsen766 I’m determined to keep splitting these brunnera - my first effort has turned out quite well - if they fancy self seeding that would be a nice bonus. Thank you for the ‘propagation’ reminder - I must get my act together.
Hi Paul!🙋🏻♀️Your garden looks beautiful!😍You already have flowers and here the plants are just sprouting😅It has also been very cold and windy here. I still have my plants inside the house and my Brugmansia in the garage. I hope Mother Nature lets us take the plants outside, because they are so tired of being indoors😝Greetings from Washington State🇺🇸💚💚💚💚🌵🪴
Glad you like the garden Saya. It certainly is a relief for the plants when they get some fresh air and sunlight. I brought my brugmansias out of the garage a bit early but I was going away so had to and also I didn’t bargain on such a cold Spring. Greetings to 🇺🇸
Good to have you back Paul. Your garden is looking wonderful. The Azaleas and Rhododendrons have liked all the rain we've been having. Your Avalanche is stunning again. I lost mine as I planted it in the ground last year but it's hated the continual rain. In fact most of my garden has resembled a paddy field for weeks on end. Hope your foot is on the mend as we take them for granted and it's only when they go wrong that we realise how much we use them. I broke a bone in one of mine back in the 1970's. Fell off my platform shoes!
Thank you Wendy, sorry you lost your 'Avalanche' - I wonder if it is really a small clematis and is more happy in a pot? No paddy fields for me on this sandy soil - would you believe it's bone dry right now - a nightmare for watering. You are right - when I couldn't walk for a number of days I was actually shocked that it meant I couldn't even do any gardening! I'm trying to imagine those 70s platform shoes ;-)))
Love seeing your beautiful garden! Also has been a cold wet and windy spring here is Massachusetts, USA, but I love seeing the colors of my early spring garden. I hope your foot heals quickly and you can enjoy gardening again.
I really enjoyed this video, Paul and I'm glad your foot has healed. The shrub that is creating a thicket looks like it could be a type of summac. They make large thickets here in the US.
Glad you enjoyed the garden Joanne. I agree - it does very much look like a type of summac with similar characteristics - I have done some research and found that it is Sorbaria sorbifolia ‘Sem' - maybe a summac relative.
Now started seeing your new video Pauly!sorry for your feet!are you taking proper help for?take care and rest as much as you can!lm going to see the rest of your video,so blossom and such fresh and colours!bye from Betty
Your garden is looking great - as always! I don’t know if you remember I asked your advice about a new little pink azalea I had that got frostbite..? I’m new to azaleas but I followed your tips, gave it a good ericaceous mulch…it’s made a full recovery and it’s flowering now, I love it!! Thanks 🥰 Best wishes to your poor foot!!! 🌷🪷🪻🌺🌸🌼🌹
I do remember chatting to you about the azalea. Isn’t it great when they respond to extra care - azaleas are masters at covering themselves with uplifting flowers. Foot doing well thank you. 👍🤞🌻
I love your garden, Paul as it is so colourful and very balanced. It looks perfect even if you have been away. What is the name of the large cream, variegated bush that you called, 'Forest Flame'? I would like to get one for its stunning foliage. Thank you for the tour.
Thank you - glad you like the garden. That shrub is a pieris 'forest flame'. It has lovely red leaves in early Spring and then strings of white bells. It is a forest plant and needs ericaceous soil or compost. It usually prefers a shady spot but I have mine in the sun so the leaves bleach to that cream colour. If your soil isn't suitable then it does well in a pot and likes plenty of water.
Glad to see you back. We have had a very wet spring but so far my plants love it. Your garden looks beautiful. Hope your foot gets better soon. How is your robin?
Hello Paul, thanks for the quick overview of the garden, the hydrangea cuttings are simply wonderful, I liked the clematis, each beautiful in its own way. Brugmansia is very interesting, I managed to get a cutting, I planted it in a pot while I keep it in a room at home under a phyto-lamp, I plan to plant it too. put it in a pot and put it outside. Paul, how is your pond doing? Are the aquatic plants already waking up?
Good luck with your brugmansia - good idea to keep it warm till the weather warms up. The pond is OK but I haven't been able to maintain it - the plants and wildlife will be OK and some of the plants, like marsh marigolds, have flowered
Welcome back Paul I think you’ve been missed quite a bit. I took some hydrangea cuttings last year and they’re doing great. Only trouble is I can’t remember which plant I took them from. 🤣🤣. How long do I need to leave them in pots, do you know?
Thank you! Nice to hear your cuttings are doing well. I usually pot them into a 9cm pot, followed by the next size up - once the roots are showing through the bottom of that pot then they can be put out. I wonder if they'll put on a flower or two this year so you can identify them?
Some of the flower beds are OK, but others have a lot of snails - eventually the snails will find all the hostas so I have to enjoy them early in the season.
Hi Annet, that's a good question. The rock is only a couple of feet down as the houses are built almost directly on a sandstone knoll so it all will be OK.
Welcome back Paul. Good to see you and your garden!
Thank you Laura!
Welcome back 😊

Thank you Wendy, sorry you lost your 'Avalanche' - I wonder if it is really a small clematis and is more happy in a pot? No paddy fields for me on this sandy soil - would you believe it's bone dry right now - a nightmare for watering.
You are right - when I couldn't walk for a number of days I was actually shocked that it meant I couldn't even do any gardening! I'm trying to imagine those 70s platform shoes ;-)))
great to see you back Paul !! I love that white clematis it is lush
Thank you Joanne, yes - that clematis is great and getting better each day as more of the flowers open.
The garden is gorgeous, Paul.
Thank you Barb.🌻
Hi paul . How are you ? Every thing in your garden looks so beautiful . The azalias and clematis flowers are amazing . Have a wondeful day . 🌿
Thank you Lina, I'm feeling much better thank you - I even managed to mow the lawn before shooting the video - think the grass was a foot long.
Great video - garden looks lovely, can't wait to see your summer garden instalment..
Thank you - let's hope for a good summer.
Hope for a fast recovery of your foot 🙏 The garden is still taking care of itself 🤩
Thank you - so far so good 👍🌻
Love seeing your beautiful garden! Also has been a cold wet and windy spring here is Massachusetts, USA, but I love seeing the colors of my early spring garden. I hope your foot heals quickly and you can enjoy gardening again.
Let's hope the month of May saves the day! Thank you - slowly but surely and I'll get out there.
Hi Paul, your garden is looking lovely as always! 🌹🪻🌸🌺
I hope your foot gets better soon!! :)
Thank you Sue 🌻
estrañando su vídeos de su bello gardin, sr Paul 😊
Muy amable Tomasa 🌻
I really enjoyed this video, Paul and I'm glad your foot has healed. The shrub that is creating a thicket looks like it could be a type of summac. They make large thickets here in the US.
Glad you enjoyed the garden Joanne. I agree - it does very much look like a type of summac with similar characteristics - I have done some research and found that it is Sorbaria sorbifolia ‘Sem' - maybe a summac relative.
I love "red robin fortilia"!l didnt know she needed a "hair cut"when she is changing colours!
You must try it and see how well it 'works' - all the new leaves are first red and pruning back stimulates new leaves. Just my kind of shrub!
Nice to see you again. Spanish blue bells are invasive here in south west BC, Canada. I am forever digging them out.
Me too, I presume mine are Spanish?
@@paultsworld Spanish have flowers on both sides if the stem. English only one side.
Thanks - I’ll check mine.
Now started seeing your new video Pauly!sorry for your feet!are you taking proper help for?take care and rest as much as you can!lm going to see the rest of your video,so blossom and such fresh and colours!bye from Betty
Thank you Betty, the foot is getting better - taking longer than expected but doing well thank you.
Hello 👋 well sharing thank you 🙏
You’re welcome! 🌻
Hello Paul. Nice to see you. And you beautiful garden 😂
So nice, thank you 🌻
Celimates I liked the most mijne die years ago I think I will try again nice 👍 garden I enjoyed the view
Sorry to hear your favourite clematis died, I do find I also have a turnover as plants die - so do replace it.
Thanks 🥰
Best wishes to your poor foot!!!
🌷🪷🪻🌺🌸🌼🌹
I do remember chatting to you about the azalea. Isn’t it great when they respond to extra care - azaleas are masters at covering themselves with uplifting flowers.
Foot doing well thank you. 👍🤞🌻
very nice love it good job ☺
Thank you! Cheers!
Glad you’re back mate. Carry on making these videos! Cheers!
Thanks for that Allen!
it did well while you were away working
You are correct - It actually might do better when I’m not there! 😀
It looks nice ! Hope you are good .
I’m fine thank you 🌻👍
I get so excited when my weeding is caught up. Doesn't last long though.
I know what you mean! My weeds play hide and seek with me 😀
beautiful garden
So nice of you 🌻
Very beautiful, i like your garden😊
Thank you so much!
beautiful garden❤
🌻👍
amazing
👍👍
We have so much in common. Toms day job is like yours. We have hydregneaa and we have the azaleas. We have the red tip too.
As you know - it's a great day job - and it sounds as though you have a similar soil for those ericaceous shrubs.
noble job awesome
So far so good!
@@paultsworld Thanks much for your growing advice. I will give it a go.
Good luck. 👍
Very nice and beautiful ❤️ 😍 🤩 👌 Thank you ❤️ Subscribed! New friend ❤️
Thank you and welcome 🌻👍
hi paul do bluebells self seed or bulb expansion...ive a small plot wud look great with a woodland bluebell look
Actually they do both - self seed and offset from the main bulb.
Glad to see you back. We have had a very wet spring but so far my plants love it. Your garden looks beautiful. Hope your foot gets better soon. How is your robin?
Thank you, the foot is improving. Yes, a wet Spring is nice for the plants. The robin is OK and enjoying life with his partner.
@@paultsworld Thank you very much, I will try. Great, the flowering is pleasing and will hopefully last for a long time.
I hope you get lots of trumpets on the brugmansia over the Summer.
❤❤❤
👍🌻
I really enjoyed that tour, the hostas are untouched by snails, how do you manage that?
Some of the flower beds are OK, but others have a lot of snails - eventually the snails will find all the hostas so I have to enjoy them early in the season.
@@paultsworld oh I see, that explains it.
Hullo Paul, I wanted to inquire if planting those big shrubs near.the house, the roots will not grow undet the foundation?😊
Hi Annet, that's a good question. The rock is only a couple of feet down as the houses are built almost directly on a sandstone knoll so it all will be OK.
Thanks Paul
Wow paul where are you in the country to have so much colour please ?
Hi Mike, my garden is on the Wirral in the North-West of England. Being a peninsula it does have a bit of a milder microclimate.
