As always your gardens look beautiful,Paul. 🌹🌸🌺🌷🌻 How cool sailing in Greece. ⛵️ So cute the Robin had a family while you were gone. The beard looks really nice on you, keep it :)
I absolutely love how you present your flowers in a calm and peaceful way. Your garden is gorgeous. It's so funny because a friend of mine just had that weed that throws seeds when you touch it. She called it Jumping Jesus🤣
Thank you for another lovely video! I have also watched your videos about birds in the garden and followed your advice about what to feed them best. I can report a really great increase in different species in my garden now besides the cheeky Magpies! So thank you for all your great advice and say hello to Mr Robin! Greetings from Switzerland 😊

What a nice surprise to see a new video and a new look for you - quite handsome! Your garden is unbelievably beautiful, so much color. It’s breathtaking! At 1:26, a very colorful shrub comes into view, left of the rhodo; what is that? Pieris? I lost several azaleas from the Arctic Blast that hit the US around Christmas but thankfully my one deciduous azalea (my favorite one due to its amazing color and fragrance) did survive, providing me a glorious show this spring. This video has convinced me to add more deciduous azaleas to my garden. And the wedding cake tree is incredibly lovely; I think must have one of those as well. Bittercress and dandelions proliferate in my garden as well - such annoying plants but not as obnoxious as the Bermuda grass that has taken over parts of my yard and gardens! UGH! I have some clematis that I would love to propagate so I hope you will make a video when you take cuttings from yours. Thanks for another lovely tour of your garden.

How are you roses doing? May and June must be the best moment for your English Roses to bloom. I loved to met and see your plants and gardens. I'm watching a Lilly(oriental variety) and a German rose bloom here in my house. First time experience with these kinds, never planted them before. It's called, "Eisvogel", I found them online, very perfumed and changes their color in the moonlight and they turn orange in the morning sun.
The roses are starting to bud - they will be in full flower in June. Thank you for letting me know about Eisvogel - I'll check it out, it sounds interesting.
Wow - the trip around Greece in the yacht looks amazing ~ I've always wanted to go there!! And then you came home to such beautiful flowers - thanks for sharing!! I look forward to seeing the back garden and what transpired with the tropicals. I potted up a what said it was a PERENNIAL BANANA, but it did not make it through the winter, even though the winter was not terribly harsh here. Oh well, I guess I'll need to buy a new one and bring it in to over winter. The trouble is I am totally running out of space!!!!!! ;)
I do love sailing round the Greek Islands - I must have been about 10 times! I’m just checkering out the tropicals and seeing how they’re doing - I’ll do a video of them. Sorry your perennial banana didn’t make it - sounds like a musa basjoo - mine doesn’t look good but I’m giving it more time.

Good Morning Paul, How beautiful, it must have been wonderful coming home to the garden looking so marvellous. Sailing the Mediterranean..ah sigh I wish I was there that week, we had one day of cold high winds and another of SNOW... in MAY at 800 meters ( you hear the indignation in my voice🤣) I love that clematis that you have on the wall. You make me want to try deciduous azaleas, but they don't do well here, but I want to try one more time after seeing yours.. but you ARE the Azalea king. Dandelions are the bane of my existence, the tap root goes to China and they hide next to other plants and the next thing you know, there is the seed head. It looks like you have had the perfect amount of Spring rain for all the plants to look so splendid and healthy. The path bed looking up to the Aubrietias looks amazing with every colour represented, just inspirational.
Hello Margaret - snow! Here we go again 😆. It is amazing how these dandelions hide in plain sight - I grab them just as the ‘clock’ blows in all directions. Temperatures have been below the seasonal average but rain levels have been good. Go on - one more try with a deciduous azalea… you can do it!
I'll do it! Any excuse to go to the nursery. Yes, we had below average temperatures last Spring. Made growing vege challenging. In fact, food production failed for us for the most part and now we are going into El Niino, so drought for us soon. 😳
@@margaretmichelsen766 so it’s an El Niño year? Hope that doesn’t mean a really bad drought for you? - not even sure if we’re affected at all over here.
Yes, it means drought for us on the Eastern seaboard. Margaret, start mulching! I hope your soils warm up soon, so those cannas and bananas can start growing.
Ive leant a lot from your videos, thanks.l ended up taking on a Huge challenge of designing my garden on my own😅, started last year & still going thanks for the inspo
Seem to have lost my original message! Your garden always looks fabulous Paul but I particularly love it at this time of the year when your Azaleas and Rhododendrons are in bloom. A lady on another channel was talking about Clematis Avalanche but hers wasn't flowering at the time and I thought I'd like one. Having seen yours I now know that I definitely want one! It's stunning. Glad that you enjoyed your holiday. We once went on a boat trip around Paxos and Antipaxos and I've never forgotten the colours of the water even though it was many years ago. We were away too last week staying at Ynys Castell on Anglesey and the property had stunning gardens and when the tide went out, we were able to walk along the causeway to Plas Cadnant hidden gardens. Like you, I've come home and been amazed at how much the garden has romped away. Look forward to seeing your next video and I hope the Robin makes another appearance. Thanks Paul.
I agree Wendy, the azaleas and rhododendrons really ‘make’ the front garden during Spring - hopefully the hydrangeas will then take over. I also called in at Paxos & Antipaxos - I seem to always visit those islands whether I’m sailing in the Northern or Southern Ionian. Glad you enjoyed a stay on Anglesey - great place. I noticed some clematis ‘Avalanche’ at Goredale yesterday. I’ll ask Mr Robin if he intends going for a second brood - I’ve read they can have three.
@@paultsworld Gordale here I come! Thanks for that Paul. Yes, it would be lovely if Mr.Robin could have another brood. I didn't know that he could potentially have three. I've not seen mine for a few days but some huge birds that look like Ravens (I'm not good at identifying birds) have appeared. Started with one, then another and now a third. They are very vocal!
Good ol' Goredale! Once the robins have had a brood they sometimes aren't seen so much - I hope yours returns. I don't think you've got ravens - are they crows perhaps?
@@paultsworld Perhaps they are crows Paul. Only thought of ravens as they look like the birds at The Tower of London. They're massive. I hope the robin returns as I like watching it when I'm gardening. Pleased to say that I got Avalanche yesterday from Gordale's. Couldn't resist buying lots of other plants too but that's what us gardeners do. Hope my Avalanche turns out as good as yours.
@@wendybartlett6717 fabulous you got yourself an Avalanche - and other goodies - hope it performs for you. Your Robin will be back sometime - mine wasn’t here at the patio for the first time in months. They do go ‘walk-about’.
Lovely tour Paul, thank you. Bittercress is a pain in my garden too 🙈. Your holiday looked lovely. Part of our cruise last year was Greek islands just fabulous.
Wow! That vacation looks absolutely fabulous Paul! Oh yes, bittercress is such a demon in the spring, I never get to them in time! The star of the show is that evergreen clematis! Such interesting foliage. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this tour of your beautiful garden Paul. I’m envious of your clematis Montana. We have a white one at the front of the house and a pink one at the back that have been so lovely for the past 5 years but this year, they’re both dead. Not one flower and no new leaf shoots either😢 not sure what’s happened. The pink one has quite an old trunk with many winding branches at the base. Maybe they’ve just got too old.
Thank you Ellie - I am really pleased you like the garden. What a shame both your clematises have died - I wonder why? I'll do a video in a few weeks on propagating clematises so perhaps you could take some cuttings from other montanas?
What a beautiful garden Paul !!! I completed the Course on Maintenance of Parks and Gardenes , and Floriculture. In Autumn there is also a lot of work in the garden. Now I am collecting dry leaves from the trees to make compost. But I still have organic compost and ground eggshells 🌺
I've been having problems with chlorosis on my rhododendrons too in the past few seasons. Someone told me to use a lot of peat moss, coco peat, pine bark and pine needles in the potting mix to make the soil more acidic. It worked out great. No chlorosis this year. Maybe you could dig up the soil around the trunk and ammend it with these materials. Hope it works. Thanks for the lovely video.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Sounds as though you’ve really sorted out your rhododendron - I need to do the same as it’s been like that for a few years. Thank you for the advice.
How lovely. You are such an inspiration. My daffodils are just blooming here in the Adirondack Mountains. I've been listening to how you handle plants, you have such a wealth of knowledge and an obvious love of gardening. Thank you so much for your channel.
So nice of you Colleen. 🌸 What a spectacular area you live in - even if a bit chilly at times. I wonder if you are starting at your plant nursery soon?
@@paultsworld How kind of you to remember! I'll be starting there in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited as there is so much to learn. Retirement is wonderful. 😊
It's great to see you back, Paul. I definitely agree about having 30-40% evergreens in the garden to help get me passed the winter months and even so here in zone 6b where the options start to become less. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!
Hello Paul, we have a lot of garden similarities! We're still in Greece, our last night so busy packing - will watch all of your video soon. We've just seen some kind of fireflies on the walk back to the hotel 😮
Hi Paul, always a nice surprise when one has been away and the garden has moved on. I never have much luck with Azaleas, evenin pots with compost for acid plants. Have said that I have justbought today a small Azalea, as it was half price so I thought I would have another go. Is the beard part of ' no mow May.' 😊 .....looks good.
Hello Pauline, I wonder if your azaleas are getting too much sun? They like a lot of rain water - good luck with the new one. ‘No mow May’ - love it! Shaving is a bit of a faff when living on a boat - so I didn’t bother 😄🌸
Hi Paul. Your garden is stunning 😍. Did you have a lot of work to do on it after your holiday? I know that in may Everything just keeps growing, especially weeds and grass 😅. Many thanks for sharing 🙋♀️
Thank you Kim, I’ve found the bark mulch does do a very good job of keeping weeds down, although it does need topping up each year and the birds throw it onto the grass looking for worms. 🌻
Paul oh no Daphne’s roots are very sensible to root disturbance and can’t be moved once planted. These plants are very difficult to grow and are woodland plants I have killed too many as I love them so much that’s why they expensive. Put them in complete shade and free draining eracasus soil is ideal. I hope your daphne be saved. Like have several and some are in sunny are but I keep them covered with a bed sheet. Don’t over water either make sure it’s free draining soil almost how you plant lavender but use eracisus soil. Good luck
Thank you for the extra information - never had a plant as difficult as this one. I’ll find a place for it based on your advice and see what happens. Nothing to lose really as it was really unhappy where it was.
Saludos a 🇨🇴
Not even a nibble on your hostas!! 😯Do you do anything in particular to protect them, or are you just a lucky chap?? 🤗 Is it the bark chip that stops the slugs…?
That’s a good point about the bark chips. I think it may make a difference - not so much that the slugs can’t get over it but it is always so dry that they probably don’t like it. I have hostas under shrubs in the back garden that do get eaten - and already have large holes in them.
Yeah it’s nice being in the garden, but there’s no place better then being on the water, lucky you. As always it’s looking just lovely. You’re Daphne may need a male or a female, I just learned about those a couple years ago and bought the male and female. Last year neither had a bloom and this year both of them bloomed.
I agree - I just love it out on the waves - so calming. Now that is interesting - male and female daphne. I’d better look into this - thank you Wende for letting me know. 🌻
Hi Lenda, that’s a great choice - these cornus are spectacular. I bought mine at a garden centre in North Wales many years ago. I suppose you could try online and see if there are any specialist growers. Good luck!
The Spring is a good time to move most things. However the rhododendron flowers in the Spring so maybe enjoy the flowers then move as soon as it’s finished flowering. If you want to do it sooner then do it just after your last frosts.
@@ThePegasus101 very good. As it’s a woodland plant it will appreciate ericaceous soil and azalea food - plus plenty of water, especially while it’s increasing its roots.
@@paultsworld okk great.......i sowed seeds this summer some of them looked like daisies or anemonies...pink n white..i wonder what they are as i threw the packet away lol id love to sow again..they grew to 6feet ...green furry stems...
Some people are just lucky (yachtsmen) while others have to work very hard preparing the students for the final exams :-) The garden looks stunning, perhaps you should go away more often ;-) What's happened to all the weeds? You don't seem to have any at all! I must have been doing something wrong for years ...

Thank you - it’s appreciated.
This was a treat for my mothers Day here in the US. Thanks keep them coming, I really enjoy your garden.
That’s so nice of you - thank you.
Lovely tour Paul, thank you. Bittercress is a pain in my garden too 🙈. Your holiday looked lovely. Part of our cruise last year was Greek islands just fabulous.
How nice you called into Greek Islands on your cruise. Sorry you’ve got the ‘dreaded’ bittercress. 🌻
Thank you!!!!
You are very welcome.
No way I was just looking for the name of Solomon’s seal I have some and I didn’t know what they were called ! Thanks garden is beautiful
I love coincidences like that!
Beautiful garden, SPV lights are fabulous had some up for 4 years and still going strong.
That’s great to hear - I haven’t been lucky with outside lights so am quite excited how well these are doing.
Thank you for the great video! (I see you are extending cultivation to your face. Looks good)
Hi Lauren, so pleased you enjoyed the video and the latest new growth - thank you. 🌻
If you can’t get cuttings from your clematis you could try, laying a young low branch in the soil, without leaves in the soil and often they’ll root.
That's a good tip, thank you - layering can be very effective.
My Daphne is doing very well in a container part sun 🥰
That’s helpful - thank you. Maybe I’ll move it. 👍
It needs ideally full sun during the winter, a sheltered spot and some tree shade during the summer.
@vorong2nu thank you.
Wow! That vacation looks absolutely fabulous Paul! Oh yes, bittercress is such a demon in the spring, I never get to them in time! The star of the show is that evergreen clematis! Such interesting foliage. Thanks for sharing!
Hi AJ, sorry to hear you’ve got bittercress as well. I seem to always be too late and end up firing seeds everywhere 😀.
@@paultsworld Thankfully none has gotten in my eyes by man oh man!
Another lovely video Paul I bet you love Greece
I’m Greek and Greece is beautiful. Your flowerbeds and gardens are just amazing.
Eddree, I do indeed love Greece, you have a lovely country - I’ve been so many times.
Glad you liked May in my garden. 🌸
Congratulations on successfully doing your horticulture course Patricia. I can see you are putting all your knowledge into practice.🌻
@@paultsworld Thank you very much Paul !
I learn from those who know the most , and I love to do grow vegetables and flowers ❤
Have a nice weekend !
You too - have a nice gardening weekend!
@@paultsworld Thank you very much Paul !!!
Everything looks so lovely 😊
Thank you 🌻
I've been having problems with chlorosis on my rhododendrons too in the past few seasons.
Absolutely - learning is exciting - so is retirement!
Gorgeous garden!
Thank you.
It's great to see you back, Paul. I definitely agree about having 30-40% evergreens in the garden to help get me passed the winter months and even so here in zone 6b where the options start to become less. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!
Cheers Carl, I’m becoming more of a fan of evergreen plants. Thank you, yes - very nice holiday sailing to various islands.
Hello Paul, we have a lot of garden similarities!
We're still in Greece, our last night so busy packing - will watch all of your video soon. We've just seen some kind of fireflies on the walk back to the hotel 😮
Hi Jacqui, hope you and Kevin have had a lovely week. Fireflies are magical - not seen any for a long time.
Thanks. I will try the Azalea in semi shade. Like the golden smoke Bush with the heucheras
Yes, those colours are gorgeous aren’t they.
Love your garden! ❤
Thank you 🌻

Hi Michael - here’s a link to the Facebook advert I saw and bought direct from them.
Glad you like the videos.

You’re welcome, I do have the tags in the planters, I can let you know which ones I have tomorrow.
Thank you - i’d be interested in knowing.
Hi Paul I would like to ask about Cornus kousa Tri-Splendour dogwood. Where didi you buy? I am looking for but I haven’t see on sale.
Hi Lenda, that’s a great choice - these cornus are spectacular. I bought mine at a garden centre in North Wales many years ago.
I suppose you could try online and see if there are any specialist growers.
Good luck!
@@paultsworld thank you
i have a rhodidendrum in the garden i want to lift and reposition it..when do u think the best time to do it
The Spring is a good time to move most things.
However the rhododendron flowers in the Spring so maybe enjoy the flowers then move as soon as it’s finished flowering.
If you want to do it sooner then do it just after your last frosts.
@@paultsworld i moved it in may its fine..no blooms this year but im sure it will do better now
@@ThePegasus101 very good.
What clematis is behind you in the beginning ?
That is the evergreen clematis ‘Avalanche’
Nice isn’t it!
It s beautiful, can it handle cold winters ?
@@Karincl7 it was absolutely fine in this last harsh British Winter - and it’s in a pot which gets colder. It’s hardy to zone 7
-7 centigrade.
That s good news, I m gonna check it out where I can find him.. thank you
You’re welcome - good luck
Some people are just lucky (yachtsmen) while others have to work very hard preparing the students for the final exams :-) The garden looks stunning, perhaps you should go away more often ;-) What's happened to all the weeds? You don't seem to have any at all! I must have been doing something wrong for years ...
That’s a great idea Jolanta - I go on holiday and the garden improves - win, win! 😄🌸
@@paultsworld I wish I could follow in your footsteps!
Hopefully you’ll be able to relax once exam season is over and your students fly the nest.
@@paultsworld Most of my students occupy the nest semi-permanently, they seem emotionally attached to my sofa :-) I am going to have less work from July on, that's certain. Actually, I am going on a five-day tour of gardens located in Surrey and Sussex!
How interesting doing a tour of English gardens - hopefully with your camera?
