I'm having this kind of lower back pain and I'm a right handed hitter, but it's on the right side of my back

My son is currently going through this. Pain upon hitting in October, diagnosed quickly with stress reaction on right side, stress fracture on left. 2 weeks in brace, 6 more weeks rest, then 14 weeks physical therapy. Gradual return to hitting and throwing-and it started to come back mildly after hitting again. He is devastated!

My son is going thru it right now . Hes 16 . He had a xray a week ago and his spine injury from last year is 100% healed dr said. Dr said he has weak obliques . . He goes to see his physical therapist tomorrow and see what he says . The kid is too good to be sitting the bench . He is better than a lot of the seniors . He missed all last year!! Frustrating!

@@danielsmith337 I guess we are lucky my boy is still young. Terrible to miss out in high school sports 😞. They say it happened because my 12 year old grew from 5’5” to nearly 5”11 in a year-not easy on the body! It’s been 6 months so far-and my son is still being cautious. Has your son been doing PT the whole time?

@@amiethomson6258 I’ve had 3 arm injuries and missed 2 seasons, and finally this season it’s going a lot better. As someone who has had repeat injuries after a lot of time of physical therapy and rest, I would suggest that you remember it could be mental too. Sometimes when a person goes a long time with pain while doing something, they begin to associate pain with doing the activity. Remember that pain is a feeling created by the brain that signals to you when something is wrong or unsafe. It starts out as impulses sent to the brain by nerves, but the brain is the final piece that creates the pain. A good example of this is a guy who went to a hospital in severe pain saying a nail went through his shoe and pierced his foot, but when they took the shoe off it was found that the nail went between his toes, never even breaking skin. The guy convinced himself that he would feel pain, so he did feel pain. This can happen in sports too, and it’s very hard to break sometimes. To be honest it be even benefit you to have him do some exercise before hitting (or anything else) that you tell him will stop the pain, because if he believes he won’t have pain he might actually not. This is just something to think about and might not have anything to do with it, but it is something to check out.

@@numberonejake1282 this is really great advice, thank you! At this point, I do believe it’s part mental. My son has started seeing a sports therapist, hoping it helps. We also just found out via x-Ray that my sons lumbar fracture is no longer visible, so hopefully that will give him peace of mind. The pain now seems to be SI joint related-which is treatable! I hope you have a great season!
