I appreciate the input. I’m 6’5 265. And my biggest worry, was that I was tooooo big for the bike. I now see I would have to do some modifications as well. Thanks again. I may have to go with the Talaria.
The amount of money to upgrade a Sur Ron and practicality of having what is essentially a dirt bike is definitely something I've had at the back of my mind with my last couple of e-bike choices. First I started off with a 5kW Bafang BBSHD/Phaserunner powered mountain bike which was an absolute hot rod with a crazy power to weight ratio and decent top speed of 93kmh/57mph. The great thing about it is it's lightweight and looks like a regular bicycle. My second project is based around an Eleek frame with a 6kW cyclone motor and 200 amp controller, full suspension and is more comparable to a Sur Ron in specifications but with pedals and still looks more like a bicycle. I think it's great having the flexibility of gears, but the amount of torque this thing puts down means I can just leave it in one gear most of the time anyway. I chose to build it with decent brakes and suspension to start with, so I don't have to fuss around with upgrading things like that later on. I have tried riding a stock Sur Ron, to be honest it felt much slower than my hot rod of a bicycle but I really liked how smooth and linear the throttle is. It's been the biggest downside with my latest build, because the slightest turn will send it into a wheelie even in the higher gears and it gives me a lot of anxiety riding in traffic as a result. I'd love to try riding a modified Sur Ron to see what it's like but I'm not sure I'll commit to building one just yet.
You can program out the brake cut-off to power. You don’t have to remove the brake sensors. You can program with the included wire harness with the LED. Luna has a video in how to reprogram the brake sensors and regen level.
Thank you for making content on this as a tall guy, not enough of us out there 6'4" here lol. I cannot wait to get my sur ron! Seems like 60v chi battery is a good option as well as looking into the XL kit as well as these mods!
Amen! I’ve been drooling over this Sur Ron forever and even though I’ve never ridden a dirt bike I think I could pull this off if I started on level-1 and got comfortable. I just assumed it wasn’t possible? Honestly, looking for an ebike I can ride to work because I’m work less than 3/mi away and the two roads are a straight shot at 40/mph and another at 45/mph with light-med traffic. Thought about Onyx RCR because of the street wheel setup and the great top speed of 60/mph that would let me keep up with traffic instead of riding on the side of the road like a slow bicycle would… but the Onyx RCR frame also seemed too small to be comfortable for the price. But if I could go to Harbor Freight and get the tools I need to put one together I could definitely save money ordering one from Alibaba?! Most of my tools are precision tools for electronics and I have a Fat Wrench torque driver kit for mounting scopes on my hunting rifles. Any ideas on tools I would definitely need and could I get them at Harbor Freight or am I better off getting a good quality socket/wrench set?
This was a valuable video to watch for me as I'm 6'0" with very bad mobility in my knees and have been drooling over this bike but never dreamed there are seat risers and peg spacers and items that can make it more ergonomic for someone who can't crouch down on a bike.
@@JuicedJoyrides awesome so I’m 6’3 199/lbs what’s the single most important upgrade to get to help ride more comfortably if I could only do one at first? *Edit: Should I just get a Taleria instead as I’ve heard it’s slightly bigger and basically the same bike?*
Beautiful build! The 244’s look so good! I’m considering the 241’s but I like the bike to be as light as possible. So I’m seeing if somehow I can grab the UK version of stock tires, which is the CST cm727! They look like mini 241’s! Awesome video! I may grab the Luna float seat if it’s that much better because the SurRon would be my main daily commuter AND I don’t think I can afford a custom Saul’s upholstery seat haha
Money well spent. Hard to put a price on how much fun this bike is. Plus money spent over time isn't the same as dropping it all at once. Cool upgrades especially the one about the chain I had no idea it made such a big difference on performance.
Cant be understated how much less heat I get riding without the front fender, it barely stops stuff from hitting, I also get all kinds of mud on my back when I hit wet spots, thought about getting a longer rear idk!
Fun vid thx. Do think you're approaching the point of diminishing returns. Wheels? With boat anchor tires? Have you broken one? Bars? You probably would have enjoyed the ProTapers. They make a difference the way your tires did, but in the proper direction. Flex they provide is good. And to be Devil's Advocate? Lean that thing over occasionally and your tires won't wear as fast! 😆Thanks for a fun view, and stay safe.
I think operating under the “Don’t Be A Jerk” rule goes a long way towards being able to ride our SurRons in a lot of places that can easily be taken off the menu. The only times I’ve had interactions with Law Enforcement (so far) has been interest(how much, how fast, where did you get it?). But I wasn’t tearing up the lawn in the park or knocking old ladies off the sidewalk. I got the Super Moto (17” wheels and tires) package,95% of my riding is on the street, the rest chasing my Pekingese and running over her leash if she heads into the bush.
They come down on you hard in some places. It makes me laugh, with all the push to "EVERYTHING ELECTRIC" you'd think this would make people happy but alas, there are still those who complain or legislate against these for whatever bullshit excuse they can come up with.

It's funny watching this guy go through the progression of sauron learnings. The shinko's suck. They're heavy and bulky. Just get a street tire if you're spending 99% of your time on the street. Way better traction, way better wear and tear, more efficient.
Yes, this was a good vid! I had a fun run with mine...then it got hit by a truck. Now that I need new forks and a tire I think I'll go with the Fox 40s. Most definitely a new chain also! Thanks to you, my good man.
I think it looks fantastic and looks like it's a blast to ride. Going up to 50mph it's perfect for commuting. Unfortunately the lawmakers can't seem to keep up. What if you are in an accident. No insurance, no registration. I know we have bigger problems with all the crime going on but I wonder if the cops can just confiscate your $6k toy if they choose to do so.
Same thing that happens if you are in a accident on a bicycle.- To many variables to discuss, what state are you in?, who is at fault?, is the bike modded to hell, is it stock?, how fast were you going?, were you in the "street", in the bike lane?, do you have plates, insurance, and yes you can register a Sur Ron as a moped, (quick search on youtube, to find out how) see what i mean. To the question of what can the cops do, well anything they want/(obviously), but then there will usually be a reaction, (backlash), lawsuit, riots (for shootings) etc.... equal and opposite reaction/thats how that works.

goddamn dude how about a vid on your workout routine, your holding together for all us 'busa boys'. I'm 6'5 also glad to see there are more than just pedal extensions for tall riders all your upgrades seem perfectly sensible obviously it adds alot to your lifestyle thanks for sharing.
Haha, thanks man! I just do compound lifting and cycling mostly, I actually have an entire separate channel for workout equipment reviews: ua-cam.com/users/tailhappytv This Juiced Joyrides channel is brand new, I’ve loved eBikes and personal electric vehicles for a long time so decided to focus more on this and see where it goes. Thanks for the comment, happy riding!
Cool video. I'm going to check out buying a SurRon in the coming days. Other than the seat, I will probably get acclaimated to the bike first before deciding on upgrades. That said, it's good to get some ideas. If I find myself riding it all the time, maybe 6 months from now I will start upgrading.
I wish someone would take the sur Ron motor /mechanics and make it look more like a street cruiser/cafe bike instead of a dirt bike . I love the spec of this bike I’m just not a fan of the dirt bike look.
I swear by the "don't be a jerk" rule, unless I'm driving the busses. I drive busses super aggressive around town, or we get nowhere right quick. Watch out for my turn signal, because I don't even check my left mirror anymore. It would suck to run over someone. Too much paper-work.
I wish I wasn’t so tall… if I wasn’t 6’3 I would totally have one with the street tires. I live so close to my job literally 2.5-3 miles and the roads are only two wide open straights one at 40/mph and the other at 45/mph and I feel I would fly on this even though I’m tall I’m still only 199/lbs *Edit: Ok I clearly commented before watching* I heard he’s 6’5 and like 190/lbs or something?! I could totally ride one of these at 6’3 199/lbs… maybe a little slower but it’s definitely possible! Except I’ve never ridden a dirt bike and I don’t know anything about working on them. Honestly m, most of my tools are precision tools for electronics and for working on my rifle’s mounting scope’s with my fatwrench kit. I really don’t have a decent socket set or wrench. Any idea what tools are a must and could I get them at Harbor Freight?
I have, but my understanding is you can easily break the belt if you do any off roading at all, and also the compatible sprocket is tiny which takes away the zippy acceleration… if I remember correctly. It would be cool to experience the quieter ride, maybe one day I’ll try it out when I’m ready for a change
I just got back my sur ron that was stolen back in 2019 that I got insurance money for. It's funny cuz I don't really need a sur ron. I live out in the desert with long distances between things and it's much too hot to ride in the summer...in excess of 110 degrees. I had to pay $298 to get the bike out of impound so now I have a perfectly functioning Sur ron that I don't know what to do with. The whole reason I sold my last sur ron is because I didn't want to spend the amount I paid of it on upgrades. To me, when you get up in the $8k to $10k range you are much better off with a low end Zero motorcycle. So with this $300 sur ron I have I could sell it for around $3000. I could keep it in which case I would inevitably upgrade it but would have much less in it if I did. Hmm what to do.
ich denke wenn der Polizist n Schutzblech vorne gesehen hätte wäre es auch für die Jungs interressant geworden,....viel Geld reingesteckt - hättest evntl. gleich selbst eins gebaut - deines ist jetz auf jeden erste Sahne und 'all custom'^^ - very cool, greetZ from Leipzig/GER
Gr8 📹 video ...loved every part of it ...im lookin to get one of these in the future..clean lookin ebike . I'm still in the super73 stage tho...lol but thank u for the info
Don't get a ignition key switch. One less key you will have to carry. Also police likes to turn it off and keep the keys, just in case you don't get away
The upgrades after purchase is the only thing stopping me. I have been watching the Metacycle to see how it will compare after production because it doesn’t need all the modifications.
I was hesitant for months for the same reason but ended up pulling the trigger on a verily lightly used x260 that already had the pro taper higher bars and stem, and the Shinzo tires. Aside from that she’s all stock. My best friend has a sur ron with a 54T sprocket and BAC4000 controller. As much as I would like to upgrade my controller, I’m actually very content with the stock setup. I may go to a 54T sprocket soon but that’s only to help when serious off-roading. I’m 5’ 10” and 175lbs for reference. **This is coming from someone who raced motocross and woods on anything from 125/250 2 strokes to 450 4 strokes.
it would be nice if they sold frame kits so they were not such a huge money sink for some people since too many other bikes outperform them in speed range and price
I'm a inch or two shorter but about 30 lbs heavier. What's the top speeds you are able to hit? I want to use it to commute but am having commitment issues picking a sting or sur ron because of the height. Great video as you've hit most of my concerns
If you see this comment, this will be awesome. But what do you think is better this a Surron or a electric scooter that goes around 41? I found one that goes for 1,500 a surron and a apollo phantom that goes for 500
Where do you intend on riding? I think ultra is better for off road and non public riding, light bee is better for staying under the radar for city riding and also much lighter
I plan on buying a surron but I had some questions, I live in Huntington Beach and there isn’t much traffic. Do you recommend taking the bike lane or the street?
And also stock breaks still stock suspension and ur already upgrading power ? U need tires I feel straight away too. Seems silly to spend 1000£ on a controller to run it on stock battery the V1 power booster (200£) will run the same power off stock battery bypass
I’m not necessarily, saying it was the correct upgrade order 😆 I think part of the reason why I got the controller was because there was a limited time drop and I just wanted to secure mine to make sure I had it for the summer before I started doing other upgrades, especially since I kind of had 72 V in mind eventually anyway so I knew I was gonna need a controller at some point
they just barely work on the sand for me, i don't ever ride it there because it gets the drive train so dirty haha. the shinko 244's i have work better then the stock tires on the beach because of the width increase
I looked at the Light Bee X and in stock form it says the max load is 220lbs (100Kg) which is about 40 lbs shy of what I weigh. Any bikes out there that can take a tub-o-guts like me around? (6'1" 265)
I was scared too, but these motors are pretty durable I’ve learned. I never even think about frying the motor on the stock battery tuned to just 7kw. I will however need to be more careful when my new battery arrives that can run 12kw. I have experienced no reliability issues so far. Range will be less if you make use of the higher power, it just depends on how much juice ya give it. The only part I’d be scared about is actually doing the bypass installation, it’s a bit sketchy working on live DC current knowing the implications of messing up 😆
@@JuicedJoyrides it was an old frame I had just bought parts from Ali and put it together ... Honestly it wasn't that hard but I am impressed that 2k miles with no chain and still going strong ... It's was a clone of the qs205
Maybe but not noticeable these bikes have a lot of power it don’t matter . Stock 45 mph and with 1000 dollar upgrades bac4000 and stock battery bypass like in this video he said topspeed is 53. If you go further and upgrade to 72 volt battery I can tell you my top speed is 75 mph . Wind will not kill your mph maybe like 1 to 2 mph if anything your range will go down if riding against strong winds
are you joking about the chain and how it gave you back that top speed 🙂im running stock 48t and stock 2019 chain that came with my bike im looking at replacing it but stock oring chain for sur ron out of stock.
If you want more power go 72v of you want to ride longer go with 60v. I ride 95% of the time at 8,000watts any more and it's kinda unusable on the trial now for pavement it's a different story.
Thanks for your input, I think I’m starting to lean more towards 72v, but I feel like I may get peak output power for longer with the bigger 60v. Would be great to be able to test each out before committing.
@@JuicedJoyrides The bigger 60v long range is only rated for the 8,000 that a stock battery puts out it should last longer, the thing with cells are range or out put its hard to get both, ebmx has a lipoly pack that i know from rcs is verry dense and outputy, the thing is they are very unstable can ignite and swell, lion cells just gas out. also "maxing a battery out" like running a bypassed battery is harder on the cells asking for all of it all the time.
I haven’t looked into this much but I think you can attach a different gear to the jack shaft for a different gear ratio. I guess the jack shaft is prone to failure so I may tinker with this one day
I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it either, It was the first time I ever used shrink wrap on the cables, just follow the steps one at a time, it’s achievable :)
meh, not lose packed sand really, tires are not wide enough. I wouldn't recommend beach sand riding because it will get all in the drive train and so messy and not that much fun

This Juiced Joyrides channel is brand new, I’ve loved eBikes and personal electric vehicles for a long time so decided to focus more on this and see where it goes.

Wow, I learned a lot from your mods! Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome
Very nice upgrade !!!
Great video....subscribed
I wish someone would take the sur Ron motor /mechanics and make it look more like a street cruiser/cafe bike instead of a dirt bike .
I love the spec of this bike I’m just not a fan of the dirt bike look.
I keep my brake sensors in and quickly disconnect the front when I do a burnout
Enjoyed your well made video and the passion you have for your hobby
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Hey man, you are in my neck of the woods! We gotta get together and ride, I’m riding in the West LA area all the time on my Hellbird 🔥🦅
I swear by the "don't be a jerk" rule, unless I'm driving the busses. I drive busses super aggressive around town, or we get nowhere right quick. Watch out for my turn signal, because I don't even check my left mirror anymore. It would suck to run over someone. Too much paper-work.
thanks for sharing, Matt
I wish I wasn’t so tall… if I wasn’t 6’3 I would totally have one with the street tires. I live so close to my job literally 2.5-3 miles and the roads are only two wide open straights one at 40/mph and the other at 45/mph and I feel I would fly on this even though I’m tall I’m still only 199/lbs
*Edit: Ok I clearly commented before watching* I heard he’s 6’5 and like 190/lbs or something?!
🤘🏻 great videos
Cool, that thing looks awesome.
Have you given any thought to switching to a belt drive?
That’s amazing to hear you got it back, I feel like that is rare!
DOPE VIDEO BROOOOOOOO

The replacement chain ⛓️ improvements are impressive. I would have never thought it would be that big of a difference
same here, i need to check the top speed now that it's been about a month and no maintenance, also should do that maintenance thing haha
@@JuicedJoyrides good stuff. I am sold!....if i ever get that $5K available....time for a standard maintenance video?
Gr8 📹 video ...loved every part of it ...im lookin to get one of these in the future..clean lookin ebike . I'm still in the super73 stage tho...lol but thank u for the info
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
You installed the clip on your master link backwards. The open end of the clip should always be faced away from the direction of chain travel.
Dang it, I thought I did it the correct way
Maybe on the old chain, on the new one it looks correct. At 13:04 it looks to me that the closed side is going toward the sprocket
Don't get a ignition key switch. One less key you will have to carry. Also police likes to turn it off and keep the keys, just in case you don't get away
😆 never thought about that, unfortunately I feel I need to keep a key because I lock it up places in public sometimes
Re the brake sensors... I never unplugged my brake sensors and can still do burnouts while lockign the front brake.. kinda weird
The upgrades after purchase is the only thing stopping me. I have been watching the Metacycle to see how it will compare after production because it doesn’t need all the modifications.
I’d love to try the metacycle, and yeah, the mods are addictive

Top speed only 47 with the new controller?
I like this bike! Thanks.
You said the chain is 110 link but it looks like the box says 120. Did you remove 10 links to fit the 54 tooth?
Yes, you need to use the tool to take out the appropriate amount of link
it would be nice if they sold frame kits so they were not such a huge money sink for some people since too many other bikes outperform them in speed range and price
Which bikes are you referring to? It would be nice to be able to get just a frame
I'm a inch or two shorter but about 30 lbs heavier. What's the top speeds you are able to hit? I want to use it to commute but am having commitment issues picking a sting or sur ron because of the height. Great video as you've hit most of my concerns
Answered, do you think the OG sprocket and new chain would of increased you to 56?!
Just get the new Sting. You will be much better off that the little sur ron. I am thinking of selling my Sur ron to get a Sting.
If you see this comment, this will be awesome. But what do you think is better this a Surron or a electric scooter that goes around 41? I found one that goes for 1,500 a surron and a apollo phantom that goes for 500
I want one so bad but totally unsure if I go for this type or the ultra bee.
Where do you intend on riding? I think ultra is better for off road and non public riding, light bee is better for staying under the radar for city riding and also much lighter
@@JuicedJoyrides ya I wanna be off grid trail riding so sounds like Ultra is what your saying for me.
I plan on buying a surron but I had some questions, I live in Huntington Beach and there isn’t much traffic. Do you recommend taking the bike lane or the street?
I do a mixture of both, I don’t really like riding around cars that much though and usually opt for bike lanes and paths when I can
What program/software/hookup are you using to get the speed you are traveling on your phone? I can't seem to find that info anywhere.
It’s an app in the iPhone App Store called Speedometer
And also stock breaks still stock suspension and ur already upgrading power ? U need tires I feel straight away too. Seems silly to spend 1000£ on a controller to run it on stock battery the V1 power booster (200£) will run the same power off stock battery bypass
I’m not necessarily, saying it was the correct upgrade order 😆
I think part of the reason why I got the controller was because there was a limited time drop and I just wanted to secure mine to make sure I had it for the summer before I started doing other upgrades, especially since I kind of had 72 V in mind eventually anyway so I knew I was gonna need a controller at some point
Be honest I ride very similar to you and I’m curious how those tires work in the sand? Any feedback I would appreciate.
they just barely work on the sand for me, i don't ever ride it there because it gets the drive train so dirty haha. the shinko 244's i have work better then the stock tires on the beach because of the width increase
Did you notice any ground clearance loss with the peg extenders?
I didn’t but I do mostly street riding. In my latest video you can see me easily riding up and down stairs in the intro and end of video.
I looked at the Light Bee X and in stock form it says the max load is 220lbs (100Kg) which is about 40 lbs shy of what I weigh. Any bikes out there that can take a tub-o-guts like me around? (6'1" 265)
Watch my latest video
How many miles do you have on it?
im scared to do the bms bypass and bac 4000. I dont want to melt my motor and reliability. What you think>? And the range? Was the range affected?
I was scared too, but these motors are pretty durable I’ve learned. I never even think about frying the motor on the stock battery tuned to just 7kw. I will however need to be more careful when my new battery arrives that can run 12kw. I have experienced no reliability issues so far. Range will be less if you make use of the higher power, it just depends on how much juice ya give it. The only part I’d be scared about is actually doing the bypass installation, it’s a bit sketchy working on live DC current knowing the implications of messing up 😆
Did you cut the wire to unlock the full power?
It came cut
How much was your range decreased with the BMS bypass and upgraded controller
I honestly don’t know, it just really depends on how often you’re using that extra 2000 watts of power.
I built mine out of AliExpress parts ... 3kw for 1200 so far I have almost 2k miles on it and no issues
interesting, did you order the frame there too? which motor?
@@JuicedJoyrides it was an old frame I had just bought parts from Ali and put it together ... Honestly it wasn't that hard but I am impressed that 2k miles with no chain and still going strong ... It's was a clone of the qs205
1 question, do you lose speed on a windy day say about 20 to 30 mph gust. I'm really looking to upgrade over my 48v ebike
@@SuperJj2468 ok nice, I'm convinced to get one now. Thank you for the feed back.
i have a question if you whant to replace your battery to a 72v do you need to buy a better controler too?
yes, the stock controller does not work with 72v
you bypassed the BMS? as in battery management system??? So you basically disabled all the safety features. Good mod bro.
Yolo
...QUICK_NOTE !!!!...U CAN USE THE "DONGLE" PROVIDED.... AND JUST TURN OFF THE BRAKE SENSORS....8 SHORT/1 LONG !!!!!!
Nice, thanks! Had no idea
are you joking about the chain and how it gave you back that top speed 🙂im running stock 48t and stock 2019 chain that came with my bike im looking at replacing it but stock oring chain for sur ron out of stock.
no jokes, i should do another top speed test now that the chain has been on there for about a month
Should have got a ev freaks seat extender
Isn't that like the tag on a mattresses
Similar, hopefully it lasts longer
Do they have front sprocket s you can have more options
I haven’t looked into this much but I think you can attach a different gear to the jack shaft for a different gear ratio. I guess the jack shaft is prone to failure so I may tinker with this one day
What tires do you have on it?
🤡 7:18
Where are you allowed to ride that?
No where
My skill level 'bails' at the controller mod.
I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it either, It was the first time I ever used shrink wrap on the cables, just follow the steps one at a time, it’s achievable :)
HELLOW POSSIBLE MAKE A REVIEW FOR KUGOO GR PRO PLSS BECAUSE I WANT TO BUY THAT SCOTER 😊😊
More like $4664.California is a killer with tax I feel for you guys
You can move your pegs back two spots for even more room…
hi how does it ride on beach sand?
meh, not lose packed sand really, tires are not wide enough. I wouldn't recommend beach sand riding because it will get all in the drive train and so messy and not that much fun
@@JuicedJoyrides i agree with you, thanks and safe riding!
What’s range like it on it ?
40 miles roughly, I made a video on it on my channel
how much motor bike sir
It's hard to believe you blew 10grand on this thing. You could have gotten a nice motorcycle for that kind of money.
