- The complete new scenes with Ace and the Seventh Doctor in Tales of the TARDIS Episode 6 "The Curse of Fenric."
These scenes are intended to be bookends to the Classic Who serial "The Curse of Fenric." As the scenes are not available outside the UK, I have uploaded them to UA-cam for international fans. For the intended experience, watch "The Curse of Fenric" Episodes 1-4 at the cut.
Overly negative comments that are elitist or disrespectful to the original creators will be removed.
A story I'd like to share.
My friend Kierstyn passed away a little over two years ago and she was the biggest Doctor Who fan I ever met. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and when I knew that she was on the way out, I decided I needed to do something special for her as a final send off. I managed to get Sylvester to do a brief video for her, talking about his time as the Seventh Doctor and just wishing her well. He sent the video and I shared it with her and she loved it.
Sylvester followed up about a week later and asked if she liked the video or if he needed to make another one for her. He also asked that I keep him up to date on any changes in her health. When she passed a few days later, he offered his sincerest condolences.
Among other reasons, that's why he'll always be my favorite Doctor. Just a class act and an all around genuinely kind human being.
I'm so sorry about your friend, Kierstyn. I'm so glad Sylv did that.
Sylvester McCoy was a absolute chad for that
That doesn't surprise me at all. My condolences to your friend as well of course but to that, Sylvester seems incredibly humble and honored to be the Doctor and incredibly gracious to people around him. I love him.
God bless you. You are a good friend
Sorry for your loss. I never understood the hate that McCoy got, mainly because he was a victim of poor BBC management. Not much has changed in that respect. Anyway, McCoy did a fantastic job with his tenure and your story proves just how much of a class act he is.
I still love that Ace calls the Doctor “Professor”. Honestly we don’t have much companions these days to call the doctor another synonym of “Doctor”.
But that's why it's special cos she's the only one who does, if everyone did it then it wouldn't be memorable.
Mickey used to call him "boss"
@@sorrenblitz805 hardly comparable
Graham called the Doctor 'Doc'
Raggedy man
This one's a cut above the rest. The emotional arc goes everywhere and oozes personality from every pore. These two still have perfect chemistry after all these years and McCoy's transition from silly to serious is unmatched by any other Doctor, the gravity of his performance gives me chills.
I know, when I think "the Doctor" Sylvester's face always comes into my head even before Tom's :D
He still embodies everything about the character.
agree.
Yeah the Peter Davison and Colin Baker ones were a bit sappy.
You can just see how Sylv and Sophie’s friendship endures after all these years - what a great team 🙏🏻
@@SplotchTheCatThing my two favorite doctors are Sylvester's and Smith's iterations. Both just seemed to pull off equal parts humor and seriousness. Will add I have enjoyed all the doctors it's just those 2 that have stuck with me for these 43 years I've been on this world.
This and that moment in Power... "So, we're good?" "We're more than good. We're ace!"... brings chills.
And it's referenced here as Ace mentions that he isn't a hologram this time.
"I loved you, you know. Like the Father I never had." "I love you too." My god after all these decades these two still have such incredible chemistry and delivery. We are truly blessed to have so many classic actors still with us and involved in Doctor Who.
it hits even harder when you realize he practically did become her real life god-father over time, even saved her from getting electrocuted in a tank of water on-set before. Even continued hanging out and putting on various shows at conventions long after the original shows cancellation 🥲
That moment broke me and opened the floodgates. Made this grown ass man here cry like a baby. But happy tears.🥲
" Come on Professor, we have work to do"
tears, I say.
That was so awesome.
Ace and the Doctor finally got the sendoff they deserved. And so did the others! This was a wonderful series.
I'm just glad we finally know _HOW_ she left. And honestly, I like the explanation given... for once, she chose her own destiny. She voluntarily left. Wicked. I dig it.
It does make me sad that it precludes actual Time Lady Ace though.
Well, the chemistry between these two is still there. That was a magnificent few minutes, and none better than the last. Reprising the final lines from their last episode and then Sophie presenting the spoons felt like not only a reunion, but a reaffirmation. Their story didn't, and doesn't end with the decision by the BBC to cancel the show all those years ago. That cancellation came at a time when these two seemed to be pulling the show back into a new future, and they deserved better. Seven and Ace, Sophie and Sylvester!
all these years later, even Ace all grown, Sophie all grown up and McCoy grown old, it is still them, just like they were, still the doctor and Ace as they should
These two were the very first classic Doctor and companion I ever watched. They'll always be my favourites.
Ace is the best companion ever
my first pair also. "Battlefield".
I remember watching them at my grandparents
The intro made me sad
Best Doctor and companion ever - Seventh and Ace! Will always be my favourites! ♥️
Another member of Gen Y I see, 7 was my first too though I did see Mel first Ace was ten times more interesting once she came along. I could watch a whole new series from these two even despite the fact they've aged.
Heartbreaking that we can't have one featuring Liz Sladen and Tom Baker.
Don’t forget me…
@@michaelloparco2173 forget them never ever
Maybe Louise Jameson and Tom Baker, though?
I think they set that one up with the latest box set trailer.
I believe Liz Sladen might have been the only person Tom Baker would have returned to DW for.
Sophie has still got all of that energy that she channelled into Ace. A great pairing of characters.
“Come on professor! We’ve got work to do!” God I’ve missed these two! The idea of a memory TARDIS is so brilliant and I’m so excited what other doors it opens!
I just finished the 7 and Ace era, these two have become one of my all-time favorite Tardis Teams. This and Jo and Clyde are my favorite Tales episodes. This was so well written, these two always had an amazing chemistry and they still do. Their duo on the show was so unique and still is. With some Tardis crews we had a family, with some we had best friends, with some we had partners, but with these two we got a father-daughter dynamic. Still heartwarming.
If you like Ace's era, I'd highly reccommend the Big Finish story _Thin Ice;_ it's based off the originally planned ending to her character arc, which would have come in Season 27, before the show was cancelled (with the ending slightly changed, to match the continuity of the show). No spoilers, because the concept was f*ing awesome.
I love the fact they mentioned Mike in this shirt. The actor who played him was great and it was lovely that they mentioned the character in honor of him. I really got into who when ace became the new companion and was mad they cancelled the show.
Ngl i wish he became a new companion alongside ace
I wasn't expecting to tear up and get as emotional as I did watching this. This solidifies 7 as my favorite classic era Doctor. This was a beautiful and well-done episode, and I'm so grateful that it exists.
I've just realised what the memory tardis eps are about. In the Giggle, 15 tells 14 that it's time to stop running. These are all about the Doctor running and leaving people behinda
Yes, plus the "stories" element bringing it all together 🤔
Some of the previous eps. also indicate dreams being a factor, plus there is a new episode of Tales before the two-parter...
Glad to see Sylvester McCoy in the costume. I remember him in the Doctor Who movie and he was not wearing the costume so it was great to see him and Ace together again.
i noticed his movie costume was in this clip.
I love all of the Doctors and their companions, but this team is so special to me. I loved 7 and Ace together. They made a great team and they still so today.
They are so special
This is my favorite of the Tales of the Tardis!! Ace and 7 are sublime and they returned to their roles as if they never left! I shed many a tear watching this one!!
Great seeing these two again. They should have had more shows before it got canceled. Love seeing the Doctor playing his spoons again.
See this one. This was what we needed. The Doctor and Ace's time together was cut short, not just because of the out-of-universe production issues leading to the shows cancellation. But also because Ace left angry at the Doctor. "Walked off in a strop" as she says. Perhaps rightfully so given the Doctor's frequent manipulations. And while they briefly got to reconcile a bit in Power of the Doctor, this was their chance to reflect and understand what led to their falling out, come to terms with it and forgive each other.
Over 30 years later, even if it's only semi or psuedo-canon, we finally have closure.
McCoy was so great there in his second and third years.
(Year one was good but it hadn't quite got there yet.)
When it vanished in '89 I was a bit devastated.
Seeing them back together after all this time...
Nostalgia hitting hard for me in my old age.
Okay, I live for Sylvester playing the spoons! That was what we did when I was young and I always loved seeing him do it, and so very well!
7+Ace will always be my No.1 TARDIS team. The first piece of Doctor Who I ever saw was the "Stairs" cliffhanger in "Remembrance of the Daleks" back in the late-80's. I was only a child, and my parents weren't Whovians, but the image of 7+Ace running away from a flying pepper pot always stuck with me. Fast forward a few decades, and Curse of Fenric still remains my No.1 favourite DW story to this day. It's dark, gritty, creepy, and features one of my favourite settings - along with amazing characters and one-off monsters+villains that deserve to return, spliced with a delicious soundtrack and great performances. However, it's best watched by people who have followed 7+Ace's arc throughout S25+S26.
Flying pepper pot XD. I always called them deadly Wheelie bins, or deadly salt shakers
Love how these shorts touch on character moments that were rare but special for the classic stories. Explored in ways more modern Who would have a field day.
These old actors... Man, they still got it! 🥺
It's like these two never left their roles for a day
I’ve seen very little of classic who, but these shorts are beautiful. So much emotion; so much wonderful writing. It’s a remarkable reminder of how beautiful the character driven aspect of Doctor Who can be. The stories and relationships of characters can often set off an entire era of the show.
My friends introduced me to Doctor Who in college in the '90's and the 7-Ace adventures were airing in their entirety so for me Sylvester and Sophie were my Doctor and Companion - and they still are. I was so disappointed at the time to realize there would be no more adventures for the two of them so this long-awaiting reunion is so bittersweet, and so beautifully acted - it doesn't even seem like acting. What a wonderful team they made and still make.
Only one Doctor instantly recognises the Memory Tardis , knows what it is ... knows it's joys and it's downsides ....
... Andrew Carmel's legacy lives on in many ways ...
Kathleen Dudman's eyes sparked one last time when she recognised Ace! - Perfection
it's nice! there is some room for the progression from the 1st doctor finding joy in the inexplicable to the fifth doctor where he's figuring it out to the sixth doctor already knowing a bit ... to the 7th doctor having fully explored it ... but of course always room for timey wimey etc.
Yep, this is the best one by far. Incredible writing.
On behalf of all Non UK fans ,Thank you! You are doing God's work!
Currently listening to the Skyward book series by Brandon Sanderson, narrated by Sophie on Audible and she is right up there with the best Narrators, highly recommend any of the stuff she does, really brings life to the characters.
"And I love you..." - Seventh Doctor
so sweet love theme both they show what a relationship should be
Great father daughter relationship
@@jarrarwinks8470 yeah it is love them both
Awww this was wonderful too. Ace was my favourite companion, I wanted to be just like her ❤
I loved this TARDIS team so much. It's definitely in my top 5. Ace and Six's father/daughter relationship was so cute 😭
My top 5 TARDIS team NOT in order:
Ponds/River/Eleven
Ace/Seven
Twelve/Bill/Nardole
Four/Sarah/Harry
Three/Jo
7 not 6
@@JohnBloggs-m8l but Dimensions In Time sure showed 6 and Ace made a good fit and likely would've a had a father/daughter relationship of their own if not an Uncle/Niece one.
@@hugoalynstephens9166 That's as maybe but showing it for less than five seconds was fairly pointless.
@@JohnBloggs-m8l regardless, it exists and I am content with that.
Was never happy that the BBC ended things so abruptly for these 2. they were my fav back in the classic days. Was even less happy when I later found in the novels they split on rough terms. So as minor as this clip is, it really feels good seeing my two favorites ending on a high note. So yes I do come back to replay this clip from time to time - Yes I do get misty eyed and Yes I;'m danged happy about it - this was a good moment 😍
The spoons thing makes me happy. I thought it was silly when I watched as a kid, but it always made me laugh.
Love this.❤ I hope these short episodes get a new generation interested in classic Who.
These videos are priceless! Thank you for posting them, it's really nice to see these actors reprise the roles that we Doctor Who fans have enjoyed through the years.
Where has this writing been for the last decade, I'm tearing up, and they're just sitting in a room and talking
I know exactly what you mean. Lost interest during the Chibnall years with the exception of "The Power of the Doctor". Sylvester and Sophie stole that episode and this is better than anything RTD did for the 60th anniversary! Seventh and Ace forever! 😊
Not writing the show…
We finally have context for where this set came from!
I appreciate you putting this up in full for us Americans.
Not sure how I feel about giving details of any kind about her departure given how easily that can trample other bits of expanded media. But then this is another version of the Doctor so presumably another version of Ace too, so I guess it doesn't matter.
I feel like this is only one possible future, not the only one.
@@Flame-hl3ov It's all a big wibbly wobbly, timey wimey ball of NOW, where everything happens at once -- at least in my head....
Tbf expanded universe stuff when it comes to doctor who is iffy most of the time if it’s not in the show then it doesn’t matter but then again there’s some scenarios where big finish audios are canon to the show as well
@@jcrossan1351 I've spent too many thousands of dollars on BF audios to not think of them as mostly cannon. 😅
@@R_SENAL that’s the thing with doctor who there isn’t really a set canon things in the show change all the time and it’s never consistent with differing timelines I say whatever you think is canon is canon eveyone should be able to interpret the show and it’s expanded media in a way in which they prefer
these clips have been more impactful then the last like 4 series and just so much soul in these episodes! Thank you for uploading these!
This is so beautifully written 😢and acted and great incidental music. Made me cry😢.
Wicked!
Top notch acting from Sophie. Absolutely first class.
This was so beautiful! Brilliant acting, dialogue, and conclusion
This is so great, they are perfect and I love them to tiny bits
Glad I got to meet Sylvester at the SC Comic-Con, what a nice fellow and a brilliant actor
I imagine that these older versions of their previous incarnations still went on the adventures their successors went on. Like 7 here put his consciousness in the fob watch in order to hide from the family of blood, he went onto befriend Amelia Pond, and punched his way out to Galifrey.
I saw #4 first, but something about #7 made him my favorite. And I had a crush on Ace. It makes me so happy to see them finally get a send off they deserve.
Ditto. #4 was my first Doctor but 5 is my favourite since I really started to love Sci Fi by the time he came along when I was about 8. But #7 was wonderful, I wish he'd had more episodes. Slightly dark and a little manipulative. And I wanted to be Ace. It's so nice to see them both again.
Thank You from Australia!!! :-)
I was raised on new who but by god these two are the best
Ha! London, Ontario.
Ouch. Fake London according to NotJustBikes.
He was my doctor when I was growing up.
For a 2nd season, we need:
9 & Rose;
10 & Martha;
11 & Amy and Clara (that'd be awesome);
12 & Bill;
13 & Yaz;
14 & Donna.
15 & Ruby will appear in the Pyramids of Mars episode of tales of the TARDIS.
11, Amy, Rory and River... A family reunion.
Seeing this clip, gives me pause.. I realized the long journey, I've been on.. And like these two, I have had quite the adventure..
Ha! his little after smirk "of course it does" he is so good
😭❤😭💜😭💚😭🧡😭
I love this so much!!!!
Thanks for the upload!!!!
They really do love each other both as ace and 7th and as Sylvester and Sophie
I keep watching these and cry at all of them. This one has got my in Floods!
1:12 I absolutely love this: they essentially canonised all of those books from back in the day. Meaning that there's a version of Human Nature out there somewhere with Seven and Bernice rather than Ten and Martha. I love both but it's still so cool
The callback to the original final line of Classic Who just broke me. These two deserved so much better. Seven and Ace are easily on my Top 3 TARDIS teams ever.
I love the music callback when they talk about going into the water.
Sophie Aldred's voice has not changed at all. She still sounds in her 20's!
I had a bit of a crush on her when she came on board the TARDIS.
Excellent. This is the edit I was waiting for. Thanks. You have edited the other Tales of the TARDIS the same way. You are brilliant.
The writing on these...it's like they looked in the heart of the fans...
Tales of the TARDIS ep 6 - Curse of Fenric
-Sylvester McCoy - Seventh Doctor
-Sophie Aldred - Ace
Seven and Ace aged, just like the others,
But Seven still has his warm and welcoming presence,
And Ace retains her active and adventurous self back in the 80s.
I love these. This is the ONLY sci-fi series that could successfully revisit and honor the past actors(Picard “tried” if you want to call it that and turned out rubbish, imo.)
Blimey that brought a tear to me eye 😢😊
Bet all of these Doctors are the Toymaker getting assistants to talk about their darkest moments.
"Somewhere there's danger - Somewhere there's injustice - and Somewhere else the tea's getting cold"
0:50 That’s right! She clobbered a Dalek with that thing!
This was my dr and companion when i grew up in the 80s they are the best❤
That’s one of the great things about The Doctor, one minute, the clown, the dandy, the Buffon. It’s all an act, and the second things become serious. Beware the fury of the time lord and the oncoming storm. And always remember, THIS WORLD IS PROTECTED
Still you have me at tears for these, thank you. fun fact: I used the badassery qualities of ACE as my model archetype for all the women I have dated all my life. Serious, serious crush I had.
Among my favorites! I like the way Seven explains things to Ace.
My favorite TARDIS crew right here
7th Doctor's final words in Doctor who is forevermore "Ow!"
This made me laugh and smile so much.
I like to think that when the actors saw each other again doing the same role they once did it was like a breath of fresh air.
My favorite so far.
What I love about this and the other Tales of the Tardis is you can feel the love. The love for the part, the world, the stories. But in this one more than any the love for one another. It's clear from this Sophie and Sylvester are close friends.
Gosh these are so nice.
My Doctor and companion 😊
I still have vivid memories of watching them at my grandparents when I was very small
All those years ago
That... made me happy x
I'd forgotten how much I loved them.
I met "Ace" at Elsecar comic con last May, despite being early 60s now she's still gorgeous!
That 1 had me tearing up. I think I now realize who my favourites were
In my heart, i do not knot think that "ow" at the end was planned,
I always love seeing these 2 on screen,
This is the first tales of the tardis clip I’ve seen, my god this is amazing
they remembered the tea.
That opening made me cry.
I love the Seventh Doctor. Is my favorite Doctor.
Absolutely Fantastic!!! 🥰
An easy way to bring back old Doctors would be to follow this format and say they're semi-parallel versions, who never regenerated, but stayed the same and grew older.
Ace will always be my favourite. She was the first companion with real guts and gumption. She got right into the action and held her own. She showed me that girls could do exactly what boys could do and more.
From where the show started, with a teenager that screamed at everything, to where it ended with a teenager that would literally fire rockets at Daleks! It's amazing how the show evolved and gave us her!
First companion with guts? You've evidently forgotten Leela
It goes even further in the Audios. Ace goes from an angry hurt teenager, to an actual Time Lady with her own TARDIS. (And I'm still mad about how that ended. WTH Brax.)
This is my Doctor and my favorite companion.
Seeing your childhood stars growing old makes me really sad..
