That ODM D.N.A can throw 5.5 oz jigs without problem, But it's super difficult to jig with that rod, is to soft wich make it a great rod for top water lures like pencil poppers. I had to buy a black hole striped bass special 2-8 for jigging the canal.
Those black hole rods are absolutely amazing, you can jig with it, but not the traditional jigging method. More of just a twitch retrieve on the bottom
I am almost positive what you saw was a juvenile Minke Whale. I Fish that area in my boat yearly and I have seen a lot of them from the mouth of the canal up to Barnstable harbor along with Dolphins and Seals @@AbenzFishing

This is east end of the canal, there are a lot of great places like this that are easier to fish around the cape btw - this one is tough - thanks!

Fast Sinking, If their on the surface, that means they're aggressive, just burn and it'll still stay up top but if they're low, it also works
