- As August gives way to September, one of the most reliable places to find early fall-run action is the Cape Cod Canal. In this episode, Jimmy hits the Canal looking for stripers and blues with jigs and topwaters.

OTW should keep doing motivational vids like this throughout the winter! Sick footage. Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Its tuff watching this in the dead of winter..
Cant wait for spring.
Merry Xmas to all. 12/23
love it or hate it the canal is a special place. if you can't find a way to be able to fish it without aggravation then your part of the problem. work with the people around, communicate and you'll find yourself having a great day.
I’m thankful everytime I’ve gone I wasn’t on fish so it was dead silent
Great video as usual keep them coming 👍🏻💪🏻
Thank you! More striper and tuna videos coming up over the next month.
I rock a red top sticker on all my vehicles. Best shop in New England
Man you huys have the coolest jobs there are. Getting to fish all the time. Writing about fishing and getting to film it also. Man im in the wrong business thats for sure. Maybe one day ...
Poachers row
2:22 didn’t even know he is the owner of Red Top. I met him once in store, the dude is so nice with 100% customer’s service. No wonder why his store would last for years. Usually bait and tackle wouldn’t last long, especially with the horrible owner.
slice of fish heaven
would a size 5000 diawa bg be fine for cape cod canal with 11 foot MH rod and would you mind making a video how to clean and grease saltwater reel after every use!
Hi!
So im a handicap angler and wanted to ask, which pier would you recommend to fish off to catch big fish? Thank you for such a great video. Kuddos😊
At the Canal, the Scusset State Fish Pier is the best and only access like that right now, though there may be more piers coming to the Canal in a few years.
There have been several new piers built around Massachusetts using the Saltwater Fishing License funds in recent years, including Deer Island and Martha's Vineyard.
Hi so i went on the sandwich side of the canal to a dock and their parking is right on the water. I asked around and they said its ok to fish there so come May ... im there. Also the railroad bridge has similar parking access for those sitting anglers like me. Ive cought a couple fourty incher tarpoons in Puerto Rico and the camals stripped bass is my next victim. Lol thank you again for the advice.
Just curious, would the tsunami trophy II 10'6" heavy be capable to do okay paired with a tsunami shield 5000? Looking to stay in the 10-11ft because I'm 5'3 and so long(er) rods are just a bit more uncomfortable to some extent considering I just had a Back accident and blew my back out and still hasn't been right since. So that's why I ask if the 10'6" heavy would be okay? I have the 10ft medium heavy paired with the shield 5k and LOVE IT. So what do you guys over at on the water think? Thank you in advance.
Unless you’re jigging every single day that will be fine
I've jigged 4oz mackerel jig with a 1-3oz tfo rod and a 5k diawa mq and pulled a 45" bass. It's a lot of work and can snag easy also people around you likely fishing heavier gear so it's mess things up when it takes 10mins to bring in a fish.
Setup is definitely overkill imo
OTW shouldn’t be promoting fishing at the canal- way too much of a manmade advantage and way overfished
Libral mentality.. let's get rid of heritage and economy rather than a civil approach and come up with a real answer to the problem.
Cape canal🔥🔥💪🏾
OTW keep dropping videos to help us all get through the winter blues !
perfect start to the day for anybody nice video 👍
Thanks for watching!
🙌 Thanks I needed that. Love the bike setup, simple. Service that reel man!
Nice catch. My surf bike has a basket on the front for beer.
14:20 one of the most epic hooksets ive ever seen
That reel is screaming for oil.
Just call it like it is. Canals been a bust for a few years now. 17 unbelievable 18 was still great 19 still hanging on but since then it’s been a steady decline in action and it’s for the best. Surf has been 1000x more productive which a vast majority of guys who fish the canal for easy access will never even attempt to fish. It’s fine catching a few small fish on a morning but I’d hardly rate this day this fella had in the video a success. At least we have the memories of mornings full of 20 - 40 pound fish on top water for two hours straight. Countless nights of monster fish on swimming plugs and jigs with nobody else around. Miss it.
Bet you regret saying this…. The fishing has been great since August breaking tide
Those Big Bait 6” paddle tails crushed this season. Super good baits 🔥
That reel was dreadful to hear 😂
That like roller needs to be replaced
It definitely does. She's getting some TLC this winter after a busy 2023.
@@OnTheWaterMedia waiting on those tuna vids
@@flukekiller1882 we have some good ones cooking. Getting close on a topwater yellowfin episode.
@@OnTheWaterMedia that’s good to hear top water the best
Way to get ‘em!!!
Jimmyl, love listenting to you. It's like listening to a fishing buddy downstream from me. You are a very capable fisherman but your humble and like an every day guy in your comments. Thanks for helping me be a better fisherman.
What’s the power and action on that rod
Lamiglas Carbon Surf 11' 3-7 oz
Thanks … picked up a ODM DNA 3-8 11’ which is MF ACTION that was recommended to me,but it seems alittle stiff and not the greatest for top water..Even with 5 ounce lures feeling bottom is not super sensitive.@@OnTheWaterMedia
your camera man is horrible
