Great video. I will check out your other ones with great pleasure. Now after thirty years I learn from the man behind one of the best house tracks ever.
The passion for what you're doing alone is very inspiring and the shared knowledge that comes with it is making this channel worth gold. Keep on making these vids Bro.. It’s appreciated!
Sharing is caring they say, and it looks like you, mi amigo, care a lot!!! Thank you for sharing so much with us...Your vids are pure gold. Your passion to start with, you could only win with that and your experience on top...uuulalaaa! The real deal. You also know how to transmit that knowledge straight to the point. Many talents on this channel. I got stuck for the last two days here and I am not going anywhere.

I absolutely enjoyed every second of this video. Great vibes and excellent knowledge. Almost all tutorials are ableton/computer based. This has been very helpful. Will check the whole channel, peace 🤙🏻
I love that bass line on the outro music. What did you use to create that? When you mentioned Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren etc. I knew I was going to love your channel. I am super grateful that you're putting this content out there. Really inspiring stuff!
Glad you like it Richard. I used to release as Funk Function in the Global Underground days. The track in the outro is my new upcoming release called Hymn Of Dub. Stay tuned for that
@@AnalogKitchen Ah yes! I know all of the GU stuff. That label inspired me to get into production and DJing. I look forward to hearing Hymn of Dub when you release it.
man dude. just found you. and fuck this longform jam explanation is seriously like having a cool teacher with you jammin. and youre pretty funny to boot
This is how I jam without ever recording anything. Just about the moment and the next moment and having fun loosing myself. Sometimes I use 10, 11 and sometimes all my synths and drum machines at ones.
But don’t you regret capturing those awesome moments? Being completely in the zone? Having said that tho. Most often the best moments never get captured. Cheers!!
@@AnalogKitchen that's how I roll, instead of listening back, I start a new moment. I have been thinking about recording video, but then I have to invest in that as well. Time is not on my side (;
Thanx for sharing and I look forward to more. Pm me a live set if you have one. Would love to hear. Also where are you based and how have I never heard of you???!?!?! Big Love from Canada.
Having no preset with the Model D, how do you manage track transition? I guess you have a basement patch you keep as default?... would you mind share it to us?
Skilled yet approachable, another nice one @analogkitchen (I’m watching them completely out of chronological order haha) Love all the “yeah I like that”s. Nice being able to follow the actual process and see your enjoyment. Cheers from Charlois again! PS curious to hear how you set the settings of a delay like this on the 101. It seemed to be super present on accents and long in feedback, but not muddy. Is it a delay pedal? And does it have low shelf or cut? Curious how you keep it from muddy! Cheers
Hey Disco 🕺! Thanks for watching. There’s no specific order anyways. I do think I got to better content of late as I understand UA-cam better so, excuse in advance for my wooden stick appearance on the early vids! On that delay. Since you can ‘tap’ in the rhythm on the RE-20, for sync purposes, I’d always advice it. Otherwise its oldschool pitching to get somewhere to your tempo. On a DD7 for instance, you have less control over the bpm. But that delay’s got such a different character, it doesn’t matter. Just don’t turn the levels way up. At minus 3 or 4 dBs you’ll have the effect sit snugly within your groove
@@AnalogKitchen hey man, ah cool it’s that tape delay emulator! It seems loved. I’ve had the DD7 but didn’t like it for its lack of dedicated tap tempo knob indeed. I now have a Nova Delay which I like cause it’s a fairly affordable (2nd hand) and tweakable yet one knob per function stereo delay. It sounds quite ok. And don’t worry I think even your older videos are good already. It seems to me you have teaching experience, I’d guess? Just watch out that you have some content ideas left, as quick as your running through them lol! Cheers again:)
I got the basstation2 coming in for my main synth bass cause it does microtonal stuff and has the aphex extensions in its latest rom, also can use linux to manage it cause it uses webmidi for the editor, so I can push rom updates with my chromebook
Then I use the cricuit tracks for samples and a tr3 and rd6 for full analog sound chain voices layered with the other analog and chords sampled on my circuit tracks
Bro your tips are incredible I want to know how are you using your octatrack are you using it to sample and mangle or just midi control and sync for the other machines is it your master is really what I’m asking and if not what is?
The Octa serves many purposes. It acts as a summer for my Tetra, Model D and Minitaur as well as samples that can be mangled. Also arps and LFO’s get thrown in. There’s vids on what I do so go ahead and explore! Thanks for checking
how long is your typical track when playing a gig? Do you repeat motifs from the beginning of the set at the end? Or do you use them and move on? I've been thinking about the sonata allegro format in classic music - the format of the symphony - in which there are motifs in the exposition that are changed, reconfigured, tone changes in the 2nd and 3rd movements, and then often comes back in its original form although usually faster in the 4th and final movement. Because I find it hard to compete with DJs who put on a track every 5-7 minutes. Which is fine, we shouldn't compete with them, although we do share the same musical language, but the format of live improvised techno is hard to speed up, seems more effective when you take your time and create tension and release over a longer period of time than the intro, 2 verse then the drop, then outro typical to many electronic music structures. Does that make sense? Also, do you usually stay in the same key signature for the whole set, even if you add chords within the structure? And which keys do you typically use, or are typically used in the melodic techno that you destroy the dancefloor with!?? Love it!! Best video series for live techno - took me a couple years to find you, but I'm very happy I did. Thanks!!
Hi Carmelina. What a great question. No I don’t necessarily stay in the same key. It takes away from the suspense and adrenaline impact of a set. It also forces people to have a more ‘trained’ ear to hear subtle nuances. What is handy to do is to always make ostinato type transition patterns where your root note becomes a accompanying note. Say you end on a C minor. If you take out the chords and leave your root note to be played by the bass, you can now easily start a new track in E or G or even F if you want to jazz it up. Also think of making 2 different musical structures. One pattern ostinato or always on the same root note and the second pattern add pads that vary either by a 2 or 4 chord sequence stil keeping the bass on the same root note. 3rd pattern will see the bass follow the chords you’ve just played and you’ve successfully transitioned into another song. Another important thing. The crowd is never in a hurry so neither should you be. You can boogie on a kick and a 303 for close to 5 minutes so that could also be your transition into a different chord structure
@@AnalogKitchen That's a great answer thanks a lot.
