    Skilled yet approachable, another nice one @analogkitchen (I’m watching them completely out of chronological order haha) Love all the “yeah I like that”s. Nice being able to follow the actual process and see your enjoyment. Cheers from Charlois again!
    PS curious to hear how you set the settings of a delay like this on the 101. It seemed to be super present on accents and long in feedback, but not muddy. Is it a delay pedal? And does it have low shelf or cut? Curious how you keep it from muddy! Cheers

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Disco 🕺! Thanks for watching. There’s no specific order anyways. I do think I got to better content of late as I understand UA-cam better so, excuse in advance for my wooden stick appearance on the early vids!
      On that delay. Since you can ‘tap’ in the rhythm on the RE-20, for sync purposes, I’d always advice it. Otherwise its oldschool pitching to get somewhere to your tempo. On a DD7 for instance, you have less control over the bpm. But that delay’s got such a different character, it doesn’t matter. Just don’t turn the levels way up. At minus 3 or 4 dBs you’ll have the effect sit snugly within your groove

    • @lesstalkmoredisco9445
      @lesstalkmoredisco9445 4 роки тому

      @@AnalogKitchen hey man, ah cool it’s that tape delay emulator! It seems loved. I’ve had the DD7 but didn’t like it for its lack of dedicated tap tempo knob indeed. I now have a Nova Delay which I like cause it’s a fairly affordable (2nd hand) and tweakable yet one knob per function stereo delay. It sounds quite ok. And don’t worry I think even your older videos are good already. It seems to me you have teaching experience, I’d guess? Just watch out that you have some content ideas left, as quick as your running through them lol! Cheers again:)

  • @Mixmastermelonhead
    @Mixmastermelonhead 2 роки тому

    how long is your typical track when playing a gig? Do you repeat motifs from the beginning of the set at the end? Or do you use them and move on? I've been thinking about the sonata allegro format in classic music - the format of the symphony - in which there are motifs in the exposition that are changed, reconfigured, tone changes in the 2nd and 3rd movements, and then often comes back in its original form although usually faster in the 4th and final movement. Because I find it hard to compete with DJs who put on a track every 5-7 minutes. Which is fine, we shouldn't compete with them, although we do share the same musical language, but the format of live improvised techno is hard to speed up, seems more effective when you take your time and create tension and release over a longer period of time than the intro, 2 verse then the drop, then outro typical to many electronic music structures. Does that make sense? Also, do you usually stay in the same key signature for the whole set, even if you add chords within the structure? And which keys do you typically use, or are typically used in the melodic techno that you destroy the dancefloor with!?? Love it!! Best video series for live techno - took me a couple years to find you, but I'm very happy I did. Thanks!!

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  2 роки тому

      Hi Carmelina. What a great question. No I don’t necessarily stay in the same key. It takes away from the suspense and adrenaline impact of a set. It also forces people to have a more ‘trained’ ear to hear subtle nuances. What is handy to do is to always make ostinato type transition patterns where your root note becomes a accompanying note. Say you end on a C minor. If you take out the chords and leave your root note to be played by the bass, you can now easily start a new track in E or G or even F if you want to jazz it up. Also think of making 2 different musical structures. One pattern ostinato or always on the same root note and the second pattern add pads that vary either by a 2 or 4 chord sequence stil keeping the bass on the same root note. 3rd pattern will see the bass follow the chords you’ve just played and you’ve successfully transitioned into another song. Another important thing. The crowd is never in a hurry so neither should you be. You can boogie on a kick and a 303 for close to 5 minutes so that could also be your transition into a different chord structure

    • @Mixmastermelonhead
      @Mixmastermelonhead 2 роки тому

      @@AnalogKitchen That's a great answer thanks a lot. I asked cause I saw a great trance set live the other day, I dont know who it was, but what struck me was that it didn't seem like he changed keys at any point. I come from a classical background so I'm always worrying about which key I'm in and progressions and stuff like that which is totally irrelevant here.
      So what you say makes complete sense thanks.
      On another note I wanted to thank you and give thanks to Jah or the gods or the universe for leading me to your channel. Basically your concept is precisely how I want to approach improvised dance music.
      Perhaps we have different instruments and different styles, but I have never seen a UA-cam channel about Dawless music run by somebody whose music I actually like. It's been inspirational dude, really. Like a revelation. I'm been trying to subscribe in Patreon but I got my account blocked cause I used the wrong Paypal password or something. But I'm on it!
      Next step is to figure out the midi configurations. I don't want to map as much as you, just synchronized, and I want to use my TR8 as master just cause I always have. But I'd like to have at least some external synths coming through the MPC One. Right now it's running alone and I just use the bpm to synch it manually. I also like having some configurations outside the main midi circuit, like you, just in case something fails I can keep going!
      Thanks again, and have a great weekend. If you want to hear the transformation over the past week that I honestly credit you for setting in motion, check out @mixmastermelonhead on Instagram if you feel like it.
      Peace
      Sean

      also what you say about not hurrying is spot on, it's a problem I'm conscious of, and improving, that and crowing the jam with too many parts, especially performing with an audience. I get nervous and feel like I should add an instrument when I should just let the groove move the peoples! Cheers bro!
