I try to do the same with my live set with an Octatrack and Rytm. Do you have a particular designated breakdown pattern? I have bounced between doing it manually live or having a designated pattern that drops. Still unsure what is the best way to go.
It’s easier than that. Your breakdown pattern is either your first pattern without the kick and a lead line or a lead separately. I make my first pattern full with all I need and dilute and filter everything out that I need later on. On Patreon I give out AMA’s or personal t&t’s if you want to take things up to the next level

So since I have more inputs, I’m using them (as it always goes). The setup is however aimed at using a Xone for live shows. I’m in the process of developing and building my own mixer though..
A question for you Lucien. When I do midi learn with MPC for the faders uiding volume on the midi mix. Kick, OHH, CHH, SHAKER... I have an issue with the maximum range of the fader. IT Make the sound always go over 0 DB. When I push it to max range from zero. I cannot find the average setting for my track sound to keep my setting volume. I’m not sure my inglish level makes this very clear :-(
I know. You have to make sure you level the pads out as well. And check which volume you map out. There are 2 different levels. I think (of the top of my head) the pads of the tracks are different. I use the midi volume. I will check

And since it’s a bit digital sounding, I prefer to have it run ‘earcandy’ like pads and arps for which I don’t want to sacrifice heavier machinery. Also it’s polyphonic which is handy. I didn’t manage to get it to play sounds that could ‘carry’ a track. Not like the tetra or moogs can

its not clear for me the way you change patterns. Do you change it all using the akai as a brain to send program change to all gear at same time or octatrack? Learning a lot with your content. Really great!
Hey Lucien! You mention setting up a MIDI message on the MPC that allows you to make sure the Octatrack doesn't get the program change right at the bar, because it will cycle through again before changing. I'm having the same issue with sending PC to Elektron gear, can you give a bit more detail on the technique you're using? Are you just sending the program change right before the bar change and trying to have the OT change patterns at the same time?
It only works on the Octatrack though, it doesn't work on the Digitakt/Digitone. Check the Octatrack manual page 137 and look for cc msgs: 33, 34 and 35. In the MPC you have to place both notes on the Midi note page. If your sequence runs for 4 bars, place note 35 on measure 1.1.0 and place note 34 on 1.5.0. That way you're tricking the Octatrack to stop and restart at the same time, hence it jumping to whatever program cc you have set the MPC sequence to.
Well, I do not want things to go out of sync. It's the other way around. If things are off beat, the multiclock get them in time. Similar to the pitch on a cdj if you will

@@stefan3112 hi Stefan. I don’t know if you need need. A multiclock. I mean of course the mpc, Octatrack or whatever you choose can be a master. I just don’t like that some machines have midi lag. So I want to have control over how midi behaves. An mpc has a digital processor to calculate sync. A TR909 works differently so they don’t align 100% tight. So if you can spare the cash, go for it. If you only have 3 boxes, then probably no. Anything that needs to lead, I’ll stich on another midi stream. Check out my other videos on syncing and workflow. I think they’ll help you out

Thanks for the sub! I have the clock as a means of safety. If everything was routed to say my MPC and it acted up, it would mean that the whole set would stop. As with a regular dj set, if one cdj broke down it wouldn't be the end of the music. So yes, it's a safety measure. But also, if you work with different midi boxes from different time zones, you just can't rely on them. You WILL encounter timing issues and that... We don't want!
Man, that track is already a classic! 🙌 And i have a question about the reset of the Minitaur when you change the pattern on the MPC: When you sculpt the sound on the Minitaur turning knobs to certain values, are those values stored on the MPC? Thanks!!
It can be if you Midi map it via USB as well. However, when a sequence starts, it tells the Moog where it needs to go and what to play. So everything starts over again. So if you build a filter up. You need to be smart about it. I have multiple instances of the same sound saved so that if I go up with a sound. The next sequence will nog screw up my flavor

How do you send the filter value to the moog? Via velocity? I solved this with a second track and cv out -> cutoff cv in. But you did it via midi. This is more comfotable. But how????
pls explain your program changes man ?, you mention using them at the end ? how does that work with your loops though ? i`ve seen separate tracks used in DAW`s for program changes to ext synths for convenience. but how is it done with mpc properly, none of it makes sense unless its not fully developed yet or im really missing the way to use it.
@@AnalogKitchen ok i will have a look at that but i dont have an octo per say. i remember once you said you had to deep dive that shit to work it out etc so i figure this is the octo`s control changes abbility. just trying to get them to work with a deepmind 6, i know i can list edit insert them at the start of a track. but its bad man, having at the end interests me, but having to make space as a limitation in the track to cover the program change and then start the midi doesnt. i dont presently use song or sequence function as ive not enough content to mix in that way maybe the key is only allowing a sequence change to invoke a program change. sorry for lots of words, but it needs it.
The background is amazing.. I would try a bit other camera angle, for example pov or straight... Its more "realistic" for the viewer.. But really nice!
Dawless live here too... and yeah, the big struggle is transition beteween patterns... as i understand from your demo, you use multiple sequences for a "song" (not song mode, just.. song) and have "transition sequences" on the mpc and the gear with sequencers.. but doesn't it forces you to prepare by advance the order you want to chain your live ? For a more DJ approch i treat a "block" of many songs in an unique sequence, using a main track with clip engine, and the others tracks as midi to synth or one shot samples. so yeah I have a ton of tracks to manage, as i have a separate track for each midi pattern, and i have to be careful to ony have one track playing one synth at the time. But it permit me to change tracks on the fly depending on the atmosphere and inspiration. Is probably not the best way, i'll dig your method to see, but i don't have an octatrack, only an mpc, so maybe it's what's lacking for better transitions.
It’s never the gear though, it’s the approach. If you leave room for stuff you may add like drum rolls, lead lines that you can play or empty tracks that you can arm and record stuff into, it’ll be a lot more interactive. The drops need to be spot on the bollox though. There I make sure all you hear is punching u on the chin
Too bad hardware is so expensive. I've gotten some equipment but the prices are just too much even for simple needs. I'm almost regretting my hardware purchases .
Is it though? I think 300 bucks for a Model D opposed to a vintage Moog Model D for 8999,- or a vintage Jup-8 for 21.600,- I really think you can get a decent working setup for a reasonable price Eric.
@@AnalogKitchen As a counterpoint, I've got over 10 synths I use in my DAW and they were all free, as was the DAW. I do have hardware synths, but it's undeniable that softsynths are a better value, even if they aren't nearly as fun to play with.
I guess it’s just my style of editing. And like I said it won’t be for everyone. What I hope is that you found it helpful and you can take something away from it other than heart rhythm disturbance. Thanks for checking

Nah, it appears to be a classic psu problem. The give out from time to time. And with the corona bullcrap, parts are hard to come by
so u might be able to get it working again? at some point i will invest in a good DJ mixer as they are more fun than a regular mixer

@@AnalogKitchen ok i will have a look at that but i dont have an octo per say. i remember once you said you had to deep dive that shit to work it out etc so i figure this is the octo`s control changes abbility. just trying to get them to work with a deepmind 6, i know i can list edit insert them at the start of a track. but its bad man, having at the end interests me, but having to make space as a limitation in the track to cover the program change and then start the midi doesnt. i dont presently use song or sequence function as ive not enough content to mix in that way maybe the key is only allowing a sequence change to invoke a program change. sorry for lots of words, but it needs it.

Dawless live here too... and yeah, the big struggle is transition beteween patterns... as i understand from your demo, you use multiple sequences for a "song" (not song mode, just.. song) and have "transition sequences" on the mpc and the gear with sequencers.. but doesn't it forces you to prepare by advance the order you want to chain your live ? For a more DJ approch i treat a "block" of many songs in an unique sequence, using a main track with clip engine, and the others tracks as midi to synth or one shot samples. so yeah I have a ton of tracks to manage, as i have a separate track for each midi pattern, and i have to be careful to ony have one track playing one synth at the time. But it permit me to change tracks on the fly depending on the atmosphere and inspiration. Is probably not the best way, i'll dig your method to see, but i don't have an octatrack, only an mpc, so maybe it's what's lacking for better transitions.
It’s never the gear though, it’s the approach. If you leave room for stuff you may add like drum rolls, lead lines that you can play or empty tracks that you can arm and record stuff into, it’ll be a lot more interactive. The drops need to be spot on the bollox though. There I make sure all you hear is punching u on the chin

Too bad hardware is so expensive. I've gotten some equipment but the prices are just too much even for simple needs. I'm almost regretting my hardware purchases .

@@AnalogKitchen As a counterpoint, I've got over 10 synths I use in my DAW and they were all free, as was the DAW. I do have hardware synths, but it's undeniable that softsynths are a better value, even if they aren't nearly as fun to play with.
