also wanted to add, there are zillions of vids when ppl make music with ONE finger/mouse and computer keyboard.... for me it's the main thing which is killing a musical approach ... YOu got very cool set of instruments:), I am 50yo geezer, used to be AKAI's 'head' for many years, until I dropped music production for long time.. Now thanks to infamous B-ringer, I can afford model D, td3/303, sh-1, and many more....Roland's TR8 is also a blast, having one drum machine with 808/909/707/727 sounds and being able to 'mix' those classic drum machines into one kit is amazing. My approach to the music making is in some way similar to yours, that's why I found your vids very interesting (for me anyway:). Although, I am professional sound engineer for many years (Red mastering Studio, London is my place), I tend to be much less technica when I make music, I just go with the flow and carry on:)
Do you still mix and master? I do as well and I find that having that experience leaves me with the notion of picking sounds and using them as is. You should come join our discord mate...
Huge thanks for addressing my question in the video, I really appreciate it! I guess that I will have to sit down and practice this, without using eq or sidechaining, and see how far can I go with this idea.
No worries Omri. It was a valid question. Try it out and see if it works. And if you need help, we’re all here. Start at the basics. It’s easy to overproduce
Man, wat maken polyritmes een verschil. Jouw uitleg in een andere video geeft een hele andere vibe in mijn live-set die ik aan het knutselen ben met de MC-707 en de Neutron :D
Thank you for this! Its the first video that's given me what feels like a proper understanding of polyrythmns and how to apply them to my music! So much fun to watch you do this.
Thanks! It took a while getting into that sound design structure, but once you know what you're looking for. It all becomes easy. If there's anything you'd want some help with, just holar
Great tips mate! Totally agree with polyrhythms to make loops more interesting. Also i use LFO and some gear has probability parameters to achieve even more variety of patterns. Cheers!!
Yo Ark! Yes indeed. That’s one of the things I like about our elektron gear. The probabilities settings. Also LFOs keep things interesting. Still I like to try and achieve this with ‘steady’ stuff first and see if I can do that. I might do an advanced vid on probability and lfos. You have me an idea
very cool channel! I am also DAW allergic and make music without DAW. Although, in late 90's, for at lesat 12-15 years I used to work with DAW. Really enjoy your approach and interesting presentations. Keep the good work mate!
Great sounds, great explanations! I love to make electronic music by myself, but I use lots of vintage drum machines instead as you can find on my channel.
Yo Luciën. Topkanaal mi man. M'n eigen studio gaat binnen nu en een week live. Ik leer van alles en iedereen en yu n'a sranan man dus neem sowieso iets aan van jou. Tan bun yere. And keep up the sounds 👊🏽
@@AnalogKitchen Hi :) I thought it was a special table with the machines lowered into it. Now I realize it is simply foam which is cut out. It looks awesome!
@@tobiaslofi Roland SH-101. Some substituted the Roland MC-202 for this back in the day. Today it’s the Roland sh01a or behringer MS-1 for those that don’t want to spend the bigger bucks which, ironically was why people bought the 101 in the first place! You could find them for $50-$150 everywhere.
@@MrCowfood I see. I’m not a piano player so I would never know how to use that. I wonder if the Roland MV-1 verselab could be a good dawless and screenless all-in-one ….?! It has 909, drums, synths, samples, possibly a 303 sound, and vocal processing….
sorry for multiple comments:), when programming 303 (in my case td3) I noticed that 11th, 9th, and 7th works best for polyrhythmic loops. Although music is a free art form, I did experiment a lot with 303 basslines, and it just grooves wickedly good when it's not 16th note pattern (Although 15th and 13th are too much:). FOr any other users of 303 or clones - try program patterns, experiment with the pattern length and accent notes and slides. Even not exciting 16th notes pattern can change into something very interested when pattern is shorten and playing polys.
That’s a very open question. I think this comes down to organizing your different boxes. I make my songs consistently over different boxes. So i dedicate 8 patterns to 1 song and save my Octa and Mpc that way. Things that get triggered separately (say the TB-03) get the same thing. So p1 is in that key p2 is in the key of those patterns. I’ll do a vid on my workflow soon

The infinite loop concept is why I love Techno. If it’s done well I don’t need much more and can drift on it for ages 😁👍😎
Hahahaha. Now ain’t that the truth! I always dig the fact it’s also hypnotic. Cheers for watching Sub

Question for you AK. Is the launch control controlling the volume levels on the MPC live?
Yes it is Trevor. Also some filters, ADSR envelopes and reverbs here and there. But just mainly levels
Many thanks, loving the channel! Day off work tomorrow so I’m gonna fire up some boxes and put some of your tips into practice!
Let know if it worked? Have fun!
The SQ64 is an amazing tool for creating longer loops, the probability function can turn 64 steps into 256 if you have the patience...
It didn’t stay in the end… I think there’s better boxes suited for what I want to do
what's easiest and most basic way to save full projects for triggering in live set?

Can I have „dadagadadagadadagadagadaga“ as an Audio sample please? 😅
I think you are refering to me recording the ride pattern huh hahahaha. I might have spent too many nights at the studio with just my gear
What do you use to sync everything?
Midi cables? Hahahahaha. Just kidding. I have some stuff linked up to the Multiclock which is the master sync tempo slayer
