Virtua Fighter 5 was a launch title for PlayStation 3 console and it already had a silent remaster since it was hidden in Yakuz 6 as an Arcade Mini Game. Now SEGA released its full remaster with upgraded visuals. Let's take a look on direct comparison of PS3 original and Ultimate Sowdown captured on PS5.

Note that there is no actual native PS5 version. VF5US is PS4 1080p only, PS5 is running on back compatibility.
So I must download VFUS on ps4 first then transfer it to ps5?
I can't decide I'm excited or disappointed. The characters look much better, their skin don't look like plastic, but we need a real VF6 with real next-gen graphics and a single player mode similar to VF4 Evo.

This is my fav fighting game of all time, I just got a PS5 and will be getting this but hope more fighting games are on the way as how they used to be. They are getting too sluggish.

I don’t blame you. Something about it just seems better.
At the time, customization was due to the game being rebuilt from scratch on the Dragon Engine, meaning all the customization items had to also be remade from scratch.
the ps3 stages look way more thematic and atmospheric to be honest, the newer one feels less carefully put together
At around 4:52 the structures in the water are missing reflections and look weird compared with even the PS3 version.
and in the ps3 the background is render in 3d, in the ps4 is a 2d image, the same with the rocks, in the ps4 there is no boats or people in the water, missing houses and if you pause at 4:53 you can see the roof of tenchu from the ps1

Lol can't be serious. It's the same game but the new version got an obvious details and graphics face-lift. I owned it a decade ago on the xbox 360 but this past 3 days im discovering this game all over again

Visual improved but i still prefer the older characters designs, some got strange particular stuff in the fac, like big nose, little eyes, etc...
Lighting and textures improved. Reflections look terrible on the remaster, though.
especially the gi and the actual high poly models though.
With the new natural lighting and PBR of Dragon Engine, the old PS3 reflections will not look correct

Dang the music in the og one is on a whole new level.
The overall look of vanilla is great. The lack of things like dramatic lighting in the remaster hurts the overall look. The characters, in general, have better textures and detail, but that glossy VF look is gone.
It's not a "VF look", it's a "I'm a game from two generations ago" look

PS3 and XBox 360 were awesome consoles. These things are years old and still look good.

Well this comparison isn't technically accurate because Ultimate Showdown is based off of Final Showdown not the original Virtua Fighter 5. That's why the stages look different. The first entry and 5R has the best looking stages.

they deleted sun reflexion and some others effects starting final showdown coz they were asked to do a lighter game in terms of GB space in order to make it simple to download and maybe avoid lag in online battles
@@BLeaK01 it looks like they deleted some effects in this version too. I want a full Virtua Fighter 5. We haven't had one since the vanilla version.
@@realamericannegro977 yes coz this version is based on final showdown version, that is already downgraded... sad for me too.. I think the only chance to have a full VF is probably an eventual VF 6 , so let's support this game to show Sega they have to give us more VF
I don't have any nostalgia for VF5 but there are aspects of the PS3 version that are more visually appealing to me. Not to say the PS4 version looks bad, but I can't say everything is necessarily an improvement.
Seems like the old one has better reflections.
Especially the 360 version. Played on a good tv, the 360 is more vivid than ps3s. I have both

The sand arena with the muddy water was better, don't know why they got rid of it.
Its because ultimate showdown is based on final showdown which ruined the stages for the most part except for some stages.
The realistic faces looks off for a couple characters, the environments look good. But the hud on the ps5 version looks awful.
The HUD looks fine to me. At least the characters' names are legible.
They were clearly aiming for a "classic" look for the health bars.... Which would be fine, if it were optional.
Akira's face looks really weird in Ultimate Showdown. His face looks as it went under the knife. I prefer Vanilla's Akira.

The intro is a video not real time. I downloaded it on psplus and ive noticed how they downgraded some of the backgrounds and the lighting in some the character faces are hideous. Light passes to characters noses. Jesus.
The remaster graphics are beautiful. A lot of things improved like textures. Ngl though, I like vanilla a lot better imo.

I know this remaster has been made with the Dragon Engine from the Yakuza games,but the faces look too much Yakuza-ish.I apreciate the will from the devs of keeping this game alive though.
Well, Virtua Fighter and Shenmue were loosely linked games since originally Shenmue was gonna be a VF RPG. Since both were made by AM2, there were artstyle similarities, too. But nowadays, people view Yakuza as the Shenmue of the next generation. Especially with Yakuza's success and the beautiful graphics of the Dragon Engine, guess they thought this was the natural evolution for visuals.
Something I noticed about Ultimate Showdown is that the music slightly changes in style depending on who’s onscreen.
It is PS4 vs PS3… PS4PRO and PS5 runs the game on the same resolution and asset detail as the base PS4.
ps5 runs in bc so yeah it is really just ps4/ps4 pro being compared
but of course even for PS4 it could have been way better this is justa remaster touch up/clean up and not a full on remake anyways
@@melxb Sure. Sega is testing the waters. If this goes well, we may get a VF 6. Like Capcom did with DMC series on the PS4/X1 before started development on the DMC5
@@zanychelly yeah possibly, i hope they bring more older IPs back like skies of arcadia, wish the yakuza team helped make shenmue 3 with the creator as well, but maybe not too late to do so with the 4th entry
I love VF but all the faces for this look worse w/ exception of maybe Jeffrey and Shun. Akira looks terrible.
Agreed, Vanessa also looks better in the original VF5, in the remaster she looks older.
Sarah is a bit worse too. Hard to top DOA5 version of her.

With the exception of Sarah and Jacky Bryant’s interactions, I think I prefer VF5 vanilla’s intro. That’s more personality in those few minutes than I’ve seen in all 4 previous games combined (VF Kids not counting)
Characters design in this game is meant to be fictional. any other approach will ruin how certain characters look, i played VF 4 a lot with my brother back in the day on ps2, fun times.

The original looks much better. These developers had no idea what the charm of the original was, and went for a useless visual upgrade that is sub par.

IDK man, call me crazy but I don't think VF Ultimate looks better just different? I think VF5 Final looks great still, they could have just ran VF5 Final at higher resolution and touch up the textures and such, would have achieved a similar upgraded looking effect. I'm still happy as hell they made this though!

4:43 no reflection on water. For some reason there are several reflection/shadow problems in the PS5 version.
It's crazy how inconsistent Ultimate Showdown looks, in some instances it clearly looks better, but there are others where it straight up looks worse. Akira and Jacky's faces' for example they don't look as good aesthetically, and you can see the devs didn't take into consideration how applying the old facial animations to the new faces would look, because we get some really weird expressions throughout. Then there are some stages like Eileen's which look much better in the original, but there are stages like Statues that looks like a major improvement.

So the poly count on the models is technically higher, but I definitely am not a fan of Akira's redesign and some of the missing/changed lighting and post processing. Seems like a very mixed bag depending on whether you prefer the new, technically superior graphics or the old art direction.
This looked great but that's definitely a noticeable upgrade.
The colors pop more, the camera is zoomed into more, actual hit sparks versus the subtle glow, better facial rigging for more expression, etc.
If anything VF6 is going to be great if theu choose to follow up on this.
The new game looks tons better. OG still looks good tho

I think its pretty obvious that the ps4 remaster was gonna look way better since ps3 was ages ago but clearly I wanted to see VF6. Hopefully if this ultimate showdown meets expectations they will get to work on a bigger entry for the series and that's how this feels...they are testing the waters to see if people are still interested in the VF series before daring to do VF6.

The original game came out in 2005-06. Looks good if not just as good as tekken 7

This game was remixed for PS4 not PS5 that's why the graphics only look slightly better. They should have waited till the end of the year and remade it in Unreal Engine 5 for PS5 if they wanted to show off a big graphic difference.

Too difficult to appreciate the beauty of VF5US with a 1080p UA-cam footage, especially when the bit rate of the original footage was already too low. Try again but capturing the game with a much higher bit rate and uploading a 4K video.

The PS3 version clearly looks much better Overall in this video ! Also Character & Announcer voice and Music is much Louder in the PS3 version and sound better !
I don't own a PS5 but I've read that The PS3 version gives you much much more customisation options which PS4 doesn't , such as Changing Skin Colour, giving your characters Abs and Facial features and heaps more Costumes and personal customization items, can someone else please confirm this and also verify if the PS5 version is similar to the PS4 version and doesn't give you all the costumes and Customization options that PS3 does ?
