Regarding the tier rankings, these are only relevant at a competitive level of play, and even then Virtua Fighter is a very balanced game with every character being viable. Couldn't agree more, my best friend and I have been really enjoying the intuitive nature and upward development of playing VF5 in the long-term (about 9 months in total). Here's to mamy more! 🥋
Gou is my absolute favorite Virtua Fighter character. I freaking love his violent and surprisingly offensive take on Judo. Which is usually a defensive style in most fighting games
Been playing VF since 96 and never been bored with the series. Your breakdown of my main Kage was spot on and your breakdown of Pai made her my secondary. Sega was right to give you a shout out for how amazing this guide is.
Making Goh a total lunatic is a stroke of genius for a pure judo guy since all of his actual training is in his throws and all of his strikes can just be wild untrained savage shit
Watched all the individual guides and had to watch the full thing come together. The passion and research is clearly observable as I hope these guides help bring some new blood to Virtua Fighter
I still love playing this game and if wasn't for this game in the 3D Fighting game genre Tekken, dead or alive, soul calibur etc would never exist if it wasn't for this game period.

While im a tekken fan myself, everytime i see virtua fighter i ask why the fuck didnt this series had more damn succes, seriously such a superb gameplay and characters...and that goh hinogami ,so cool and savage!
It’s always been huge in Japan but not so much over here in the west unfortunately. The main reasons being that SEGA, for whatever reason, really didn’t promote or push the series much at all over here. It hardly got any promotion. Secondly was it being stuck on consoles that sold very little compared to the PlayStation, so not a lot of people got exposed to the series. VF 1 and 2 were on the Sega Saturn, a console that sold 9 million units compared to the PS1’s 102 million units and VF3 was on the Dreamcast, which sold only 10 million. No surprise that VF4 is the highest selling game in the series and it was on the PS2, one of the highest selling consoles of all time.
@@orlanzo2621 Actually Sega of America tried pushing Virtua Fighter 1 on 32X hoping it would be the game that will sell 32Xs like hotcakes but we all know how that went.
The fan fuct is that his style is Judo, a style usually associated with good guys, maybe hot headed like Paul Phoenix from Tekken but still good, Goh instead is a sadistic one and use his style in a really ferocious way.
While I usually played characters like Lau or Jeffery, I always appreciated that Akira was the posterboy for the series. It seems like most fighting games tend to feature a character with a more approachable or even 'generic' playstyle, but Akira's guard breaks and high technical skill ceiling was always something I admired. He made for a very good straight-man kind of featured character because of that.

God this was absolutely perfect! Thank you for this man. Easy to understand and fun to watch. Wish we had a Virtua Fighter Lore guy to match a video this detailed
I've for the longest time considered this game to be the last great sequel to a fighting game as unfortunately, I don't think any release after VF5/Final Showdown has made enough steps forward instead of steps back, in terms of ingenuity or fun factor and it's even more apparent after Ultimate Showdown was released because it's the most compelling "new" release I've seen ever since it was released 10 years ago. I really hope that Sega's renewed interest in reviving this innovative series will result in a VF6 in the future, I think it'll be a healthy breath of fresh air that will encourage innovation from its competitors and obviously, I'm hoping to see this channel cover the hypothetical sequel to this masterpiece of a game.

Akira used to seem like the kind of character who was so complex that I wouldn't "get" him, so I gravitated to more easy-to-use ones like Goh or Jean. But once I put the time into him, I realized how awesome and hilariously powerful he was. Plus, his hits sound SO HUGE when you connect, like you're demolishing a building with a Tetsuszanko. Can't wait for more VF!😆
As long as you're prepared to put in some time in training mode, then there aren't actually any inherently weak characters in the game! 🥋🥊 Jean is my VF5 main man, though, as I'm a Karateka myself. I'm also partial to Goh, as he has improved exponentially since VF4 and is now an all-rounder 🙌
Do not care what anyone says. I love fighting PERIOD! Even if I was to loose I just love the challenge. Great video, i just disagree on Kage, i consider him an A tier. I just hope Sega will bring back the saga with a real 6th chapter. It's a shame that the very first 3d fighter didn't get the love he deserved. I like Tekken and Soul Calibur more, but this one is more technical and feel more realistic compared to the others. I replay the 5th chapter every year and i still love it.

So I played through arcade mode with every person I found I got furthest in the game using el blaze so I guess I will have to main him, second was lei fei and third was sumo man
Many Virtua fighter games prior to 5 and maybe 6 is always a more defensive oriented playstyle now i Wanna see a more defensive take on Virtua fighter 6 and maybe the last game on the judgement 6 saga
I'm pretty sure Vanessa can switch stances before battle start too. Not only Jacky as said in this video. I wouldn't be suprised if any character can switch stances before round start.
I have a theory that a lot of Virtua Fighter's rep of being hard to get into comes from newcomers picking Akira expecting a simple beginner-friendly character only to find something extremely execution heavy and assume everyone else must be even more difficult by comparison
Why are Eileen and Lei Fei like the characters in a journey to the West novel, Eileen's movements resemble those of sun wukong and Lei Fei is dressed like Xuanzhang
I can attest, learning Akira with a view to mastering his move set is indeed immensely satisfying. I consider myself an "intermediate" level player and cannot get a handle on Aoi. Brad is perfect for beginners - IMO. The only thing that bothers me is people's misunderstanding of Jeet Kuen Do - it was not a style/system - it's a fighting philosophy that equates to, "do what works". Anyone selling you a Jeet Kuen Do "system" without the caveat that it is what works for them is being dishonest. Bruce purposely wanted to shift away from the concept of styles, much like Fok Yuen Gaap aka Huo Yuan Chia. I always found it weird that Lau's style was called Tiger/Swallow - it's clearly based on Tiger/Crane of Hung Kuen (Fist) or Hung family boxing. He also switches into Dragon in places which is fundamental to Hung Kuen. Lei Fei's style is based on modernised Wu Shu readily apparent within Shaolin Temple - which despite looking cool - was a minor disappointment for me. If you watch 36th Chamber Of Shaolin's intro, that's a much closer approximation of traditional Shaolin Fu as it was directed by the awesome Lau Kar Leung.
I'd love to see a capoerra user if a new one is made. I'd also appreciate seeing a hapkido practitioner. I'd also prefer them to leave jumping move out like the ascending and descending ariel attacks
I've loved this series since tje very first one, debuted in arcades back in 1993, and have continued to be a fan. I'm hoping that they'll actually make &release V.F.6, instead of doing minor upgrades to V.F.5, like they've been doing. I'd like to see newer characters from other countries join the existing cast, and some martial arts styles that we haven't seen represented yet. Perhaps even a mode that allows you to use missing characters (Siva/Shiva-omitted from the original roster due to conflicts in Saudi Arabia at the time if i understand correctly)Perhaps even the lost prototype fighters, retooled into fully developed characters....Hopefully too a far more developed storyline...Something more about the Mysterioys-Syndicate that holds/sponsors the Tournaments(Judgement-6/J6) that they compete in, especially more background on the "DURAL"-Project
Regarding the tier rankings, these are only relevant at a competitive level of play, and even then Virtua Fighter is a very balanced game with every character being viable. You'll have much more fun (and also probably perform better) if you just pick who you like!

Yu Suzuki is a fan of the novels coincidentally. He's mentioned them before. You can also see the influence on his Shenmue 2 characters.
Akira Yuki costume remind me of Ryu Hoshi from SF series
Very concise breakdown here, thanks for that 👍
We need to talk about idea of new virtua fighter games 🎮.
Any idea for new characters?.
More stances for Vanessa, for starters
I'd love to see a capoerra user if a new one is made. I'd also appreciate seeing a hapkido practitioner. I'd also prefer them to leave jumping move out like the ascending and descending ariel attacks

I've loved this series since tje very first one, debuted in arcades back in 1993, and have continued to be a fan. I'm hoping that they'll actually make &release V.F.6, instead of doing minor upgrades to V.F.5, like they've been doing. I'd like to see newer characters from other countries join the existing cast, and some martial arts styles that we haven't seen represented yet. Perhaps even a mode that allows you to use missing characters (Siva/Shiva-omitted from the original roster due to conflicts in Saudi Arabia at the time if i understand correctly)Perhaps even the lost prototype fighters, retooled into fully developed characters....Hopefully too a far more developed storyline...Something more about the Mysterioys-Syndicate that holds/sponsors the Tournaments(Judgement-6/J6)
that they compete in, especially more background on the "DURAL"-Project
That line for Sarah was barz 🔥
