That virtua fighter 4 main screen is so nostalgic for me. Used to play this when I was about 7 or 8 years old over the house of the first friend I ever had. Life was great back then.
Seeing VF1 in motion for the first time at the arcade in the 90s was when I realised that 3D games were the future. It might have been blocky, but no other game moved like that. I don't think I'd even seen human animation like that, even in movies. It was so smooth and life like compared to the 2D fighters of the time.
VF2 due a remaster. With original bgm and sound effects as an option. They got that game just so spot on, the speed was right, the combos slick and made its contemporary rivals look slow and clunky.
People today probably cannot comprehend what a leap forward VF1, VF2 and VF3 were compared to the tiny incremental improvements year by year in modern gaming. Those three games along with Daytona just revolutionized what games look like.
I follow VF since the 2nd release and I have to say Ultimate Shodown is my favorite. Sega AM2 was light years away in terms of technology and graphics, especially in the 90s-mid 00s.
@@Oysterblade84 Oh true. The only ones I could think of were Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers which are basically the same. Eternal Champions was pretty cool back in the day.
@@Oysterblade84 that was not Sega of Japan. It was from Sega Interactive. A tinpot studio that mostly did ports. Known as Interactive Designs before Sega of America bought them for some strange reason.
I always loved these games though I never understood why there was no storyboard with each character after they won as with other games. I also wish all the characters spoke English so I knew what they were saying.
The Sega developers of Super Monkey Ball Jr. should've also ported Virtua Fighter to the Game Boy Advance. It would fit perfectly and sell a whole lot more than porting a watered-down version of 鉄拳TEKKEN on the GBA.
They at least should of gave this game a story mode I mean come on it’s not the 1990s anymore mortal kombat, streetfightet, tekken, dead or alive has one and more of fighting has a story mode so it’s if they come out with a new virtual fighter 6 sega needs to step there game up I mean the traditional arcade mode is good but it’s time for a story mode on virtual fighter
The first 3 numbered games where the pinnacle for this series. Because they along with Tekken were essentially the pioneers of the 3D era of fighting games. But Sega showed us the future first. But ultimately Namco won and completely overshadowed this franchise forever sadly.
VF4 Evo however was the pinnacle of solo fighting. There isn’t a single other game out there that comes even close. The tutorial is so complete it’ll take you from beginner to pro, and the quest mode is insanely rich and engaging. The final 32 fighters styles were based on real Japanese arcade players!
Fighters Megamix was the peak. 25 years later, and it still has the largest AM2 roster of fighters, combining the casts of Fighting Vipers & Virtua Fighter for a staggering 34 fighters. It also had an improved dodge mechanic, getting rid of the unnecessary button from VF3.

its difficult to compare them, considering the fact that they are both pretty different mechanically. if you really want to try a virtua game i suggest you give virtua fighter 4 evolution a try. its a pretty good game and it will help you understand the game better because it has a very elaborate tutorial. there is pcsx2 build in the virtua fighter disco that allows you to run the game without any lag.
I agree VF doesn't compete in the same league, VF was always above. It's not even competing in the same league . VF will always be superior to Tekken. And Tekken's popularity will continue to put Tekken in the hands of the mainstream. It would be cool to see SEGA coming back with a new VF pushing the competition and the creativity. Because Tekken became a caricature now copying 2D fighters 😔
@@vgjunkie8386 I'm not sur what you mean about current gens limitations? :) But talking about the game itself VF creativity had nothing to do with the hardware after the 90's early 2000 It was all about system , programming. Animations transitions. Martial arts , realism..! 💖

VF started my obsession with fighting games and 3D graphics. Deeply engrained memories of using Jeffery and nose grabbing people from a crouch :)
The fact that sound effects haven't changed since 1993 is crazy
this is more than halfway through 2023 and there’s still no news for VF6. this world is doomed
That’s Sega’s own fault for milking VF5.
It's done! Vf6 is officially a reality.
