$50 for a 13 year old game is pure insanity, no matter how good it is!
It's literally my favorite game of all time, and I still won't be buying this port.
You could get almost 3 months worth of Gamepass for that.

Back in 2013, I had bought the GOTY edition of RDR which had the Undead Nightmare included. It cost around $15. To even think that they can charge $50 with this and get away with it is crazy
I bought the Goty for Xbox360 a week before the remaster releases for 15 bucks. Who tf thinks it is okay to charge so much for this?

Its basically just playstation users being punished bc sony refuses to add any amount of backwards compatability so that they can keep milking their playstation Now and premium services.

Red dead 1 was just perfect, the feature where you can cheat in poker if you have the elegant suit on is probly one of the coolest features I’ve ever seen in any game ever, and if you get caught cheating it ends in a quick draw dead eye duel outside, so badass

Its an amazing game. I played RDR2 first and spent hrs on it. Now with its release on switch, I got one of my favorite games wherever I go.The only issue I can think of are the shrunken rabbits and hardly visible items on the ground while playing handheld, but playing docked makes up for it.
I played rdr2 a few years ago and fell in love with the game. Completed the story like 3 times. And I will wait until sale for this first game as I want to experience Mexico, the ragdoll effects, music and vibe. Can't wait

Oh man, if you enjoyed the RDR2 story you are in for a treat with this one. It is still a game from 2010, but the story itself holds up so well.

I wish we could see an Undead Nightmare 2 for RDR2, that world has some really spooky areas and could really be a awesome DLC
I'm still shocked they never took advantage of the still popular zombie/undead genre.
It was originally planned, because a zombified version of Arthur was found in the game files. I assume they scrapped it to put in into RDO, but since RDO wasn’t the succes they hoped for, they never finished Undead Nightmare II.
I remember hearing a rumor that they were going to do a Cowboys vs Aliens dlc and I always thought that sounded sick

13 years later, Rockstar really wants us to fork over $50 for this. I'd be willing to pay this much for RDR if it was remastered or remade exclusively for current gen consoles (XSX & PS5). But instead all we get from Rockstar is a slightly enhanced port of the original game on a 10 year old console for $50...

The ending to RDR is the first video game ending where my jaw dropped because I didn't expect it. I'd love to play through it again on switch, as it's been 12 years since I played it, but $50 is a no go for me. It's inspired me to play 2 again though. Here's hoping there is a price drop around the holidays. At least then 2's story/world building will make 1's playthrough mean so much more.
I would feel better getting it if it were $30 or $20 for red dead $10 for undead nightmare. I hope there is a holiday sale this Xmas season making it $29.99 and I'll be getting it for sure. Also they should eventually list it as a greatest hits with both games for $20 hopefully by 2024 .I wish 🤞

Just saw this on the PS5 store and was shocked by the pricing. My PS3 is sitting right next to my PS5, and RDR is on the shelf... that made $50 look even more insane.
The only difference would be shorter loading times.

They have rhe RDR2/RDO world, environmental assets, charachter models, NPC scripting, etc.
It would be like using the same set and actors to do a different play. Almost nothing new to have to create. Could have used the same audio and nobody would care.

Even without updates RDR holds up like a champ in graphics and gameplay. I received RDR (switch) as a present and it’s a solid port which if you know the game’s sordid development makes it pretty impressive. It’s almost impossible to do a true remaster and difficult to port because the original games code was held together with duck tape and bubblegum so it’s impressive this is as solid as it is on the switch. My only gripe is the controls feel more sluggish than I remember especially when it comes to shooting.
I completely agree with him, they could've given it a bit of a modern look, but not too modern so it still has that feel of it being an old school type game. Maybe freshen up the graphics a bit so it doesn't look as boxy or pixilated as it looked back then. I remember when I first got it, just like GTA 5 on the 360, it looked so realistic and the best graphics I've seen but as years go by, it starts looking outdated, which isn't bad, some people love that style of gaming and all power to them.
I bought an Xbox 360 copy for $2 at a thrift store not that long ago. I know that was an incredibly lucky find, but it definitely makes $50 seem utterly insane.

Quite a shame that they didn't give it a little bit of a modern day shine. (HD textures, 60fps etc.) But this game is an absolute classic if you haven't played it. The $50 is quite steep, but I'd be a different person if I never got to play this game. Dramatic I know but back in 2010 it was an amazing game.
it's a shame they didn't do a full remaster on rdr2 engine. They already had the map for it - just some minor adjustments, the models etc, even the audio was already recorded. They could rerecord some more dialogue, maybe add a little bit more content and would make a great remake. But they managed somehow with these good pointers to still make a crap decision.
@@DeczkinNo dude. They have nothing except a part of the map. It would take much more effort than this doing this port. For characters alone, they will have to do new mocap and voice recording.

The horse mount glitch is in the original game I had on Xbox X this week, during backwards compatibility, when doing a Bonny Mission.

Love this game, and the soundtrack is freaking amazing. I revisited the game again on my xbox back in June, and I had an amazing time. Wish it would've received more love instead of just porting the game. R* lost their touch

I don't think Rockstar touched this one. I'm pretty sure Take-Two hired a seprate team to port it. But I'm in no way disagreeing with the idea that Rockstar is losing what made those studios so special.

If they’re releasing very substantial updates for it at no cost, of course they gotta have a way of making money, that doesn’t get brought up. That method makes it so the player base isn’t broken up like with GTA 4’s payed dlc.

I had the exact same standing on horse glitch on Switch in the first mission, and it's the only glitch I've encountered at about 10 hours in.
Undead nightmare is my number one favorite dlc. Everything about it is what I want in a zombie game. Saving towns, random encounters, mythical creatures, it's amazing

I bought it on PS3 back in the day (the complete edition with the zombies), for 20€. So the price is a bit baffling, especially since they didn't update it.
I would've wanted them implementing a VR mode, because the atmosphere in itself was already so great, I really want to experience 'in there'.
I still remember how it felt setting your first steps outside the first house and riding into the prairie. That 'void' felt so special, with how our society is so crowded nowadays.
Red Dead Redemption was one of those games I couldn't put down without finishing it. Completely. Got all the herbs, animal hunting and such. Even liked playing the multiplayer, which I generally don't like.

This games ending really got me in the feels. It was like... wow! Holy shit! Then you get that post main game mini story which was a satisfying end.
Amazing soundtrack, graphics that still hold up today... but $50 for a 13 year old game? Nah.

I still remember that first scene with bill when I played the game at release, I was like wtf is going on... but after playing the 2, returning to this again, seeing the scene, I was in awe.
After an amazing experience with RDR2 on PS4 a couple years ago, I made peace with the fact that couldn't continue the journey into RDR1 since I owned no other platform. So this is really good news even if it's just the OG game. Not paying that price though. I'm quite happy to wait it out and get on with other games.

Got this at midnight launch back in the day and absolutely adored this, then adored UN & RDR2. The price pissed me off, really want it for the Switch but the price is putting me off. I’ll pick it up eventually but yeah R* never been the same now since Jim left. Shocking move from them imo. You should deffo playthrough Undead Nightmare, was solid.

The disappointment I felt when it was announced to not be for PC still was immeasurable. I really wanted to finally play all the way through this and was hoping to do so on the ROG Ally
LOL someone would have actually had to do a miniscule amount of work to make a PC port that was decent. PC players aren't gonna put up with a framerate capped at 30 and 1080p.. but then if they put in the work to raise the resolution and unlock the frame rate the people would ask why they couldn't do the same for the PS4/5 version

Not really, you can use emulation to play the game at 4k 60fps if you want for a while now. Rockstar is just being lazy and greedy here.
Emulate it on Xenia or RPCS3. Not posting any links here but there are plenty of places where you can download a rom, don't give R* your money.
Rdr was one of those iconic games back in the day i didnt get a chance to try. I was lucky enough to own rdr undead nightmare bc i found a standalone copy. Most recently i platinumed RDR2 and loved the story. But $50 for a port, for a game I could find the xbox 360 version of at my local gamestop for $20 at most, is predatory
This video comes up at a great time. I'm a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption II, and have never played the first game. I'm a PC gamer and do not have a console lying around. Playing RDR legally, the only option would be to get a Nintendo Switch again (given I sold the one I had years ago because I didn't use it that much), and buying the game. It's a huge sum of money in order to play RDR (and of course other games on the Switch), but I'm really bothered by the question whether it is worth it.

Love the idea of more players having more opportunity to play a great game. I agree with the price criticism but im assuming most people buying this version will be buying it on sale in a few months. Just sucks they had to ruin the launch with that price. rockstar said it was the same price as the xbox version and I guess thats true at full price but I am almost never buying a backwards compatible game on xbox unless its part of a sale

Unlocking Mexico for the first time back in the day in this game was EASILY one of the most touching, remembered times i have ever experienced in a video game! lol I will never forget that day riding my horse listening to that song on my way to Mexico!
I LOVE Red Dead, more so than the world of GTA, so I plan to get the Switch version, WHEN they drop that price. They're absolutely buggin' asking for $50.

I did the backwards compatibility on the ps5 had no issues the whole way thru and if you had told me I was playing on the ps3 and it was 2010 again I would've believed it, I think if it drops in price its a solid pickup even if it is the exact same thing over a decade later its just a good game to go thru again.
Amazing game, and I think it still holds up well. It is really cool to see it playing on a Nintendo Switch. Having said that, I will pick this up... when that price comes down. 😅
Years ago I got all this on the Xbone for $9.89. Still runs great on the Series X. It's wild to me that they want $50 for it now.
It’s very sad that the multiplayer for the game has been completely stripped out, and they’re still asking $50. As a Series X owner who still has the 360 disc I’m perfectly content with playing on Xbox. Not sure if they shut down the multiplayer on the 360 version but if it’s still up & running no doubt that’s still the definitive version to play imo.

For anyone who was disappointed by this release for not adding support to pc, there is an option of emulating RDR with even better FPS and sharper resolution through the Xenia emulator. So far I’ve been having a better experience compared to when I was playing it on ps3.

Emulating rdr1 on yuzu runs and looks significantly better than on xenia, at least on my steam deck
I’ve been playing on pc using xenia at 4k 60fps, it took me about an hour to get running but it’s by far the best way to play the game if you have a decent pc.

I’m a Nintendo gamer who bought RDR on sale and just finished playing it for the first time. I really loved the story/themes and the characters, and enjoyed the side quests, shootouts, open world and music/atmosphere. But I had a lot of annoyances with it too with the weird save structure, bugs, UI choices and encounters with bandits and animals. If you like a story driven single player exp and haven’t played it before and get it on sale, I’d say it’s worth it.
I think red dead coming to the switch is awesome. Rdr is one of the all time greats and having it on the go along with undead nightmare is something I’m looking forward to.
The game released at $60 without and additional content. Undead nightmare is a huge expansion. If the game was priced at $40 would the internet still be up in arms? Any lower than that is absurd to expect from a high profile release. I think 40 dollars would be a more consumer friendly price but I’m not going to lose my shit over an additional $10

@@MrIgorlubenski Yeah, I think he really downplayed the outrageous price aspect on this one. After, it is supposed to be a review of this particular version of the game, not the game as a whole which we all agree is brilliant. I think the shady pricing aspect was not emphasized enough.

Remember, Rdr2 has a limited number of bounties you can do in the story mode. Rdr1 has an infinite number of bounties. Definitely fun to do after you're all done with both games.

That was my biggest disappointment with RDR2. I'm no programmer, but I can't imagine it would have been hard to add. I do go back and just spend time in the world, but having radiant bounties would have made that much easier /more frequent.
Same with dueling. 2 had a few scripted duels but 1 had unlimited with strangers challenging you or through poker
@@LanceUppercut it's not hard at all, there are mods that add plenty of bounties to the game.
I'll buy it on switch. I played it on 360 back in the day, and would've loved to hop back into online. Being able to play it on the go is gonna be great tho. (PS: I appreciated the clean game review, not falling into the discourse and pulling us along with you. True professionalism)
I think the price outrage is justifed but at the same time I don’t think anyone should be shamed for picking this up. No matter the price at the end of the day for 50 dollars it’s an infinitely better game than 95% of $70 games today and I’ve been enjoying tf out of playing it for the first time
PS4/Switch Red Dead Redemption 1 port doesn't have multiplayer. The Xbox version of Red Dead Redemption 1 is better because it's cheaper, 4K on Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and multiplayer is still up.
I just got mines on sale. Boy I can’t wait till it’s done downloading. I’ve played both red dead 1 and 2 and the undead add on, but vaguely remember red dead 1 and the downloadable content. So this will be a good way for me to reacquaint myself with them both.
I'm torn because $50 for a 2010 game is crazy but it's also one of the best and one of my most favorite games of all time.

I'd been wanting to replay this game for a long time. Might wait on more news, a PS5 upgrade, or a sale.

One of my favorite games on when I had it on Xbox 360. Given the age and considering its not a remaster, the price is a big ask.
Red Dead Redemption is a masterpiece, one of my all time favorite games, haven’t played it since 2013 on PS3, happy to finally get the chance to play it on modern PlayStation consoles, great review Jake 😊

If they did a Remake l would of GLADLY given them the full retail price for it. But because Rock$tar only care about money and didn't want to do any real work or put anything into it and ask FULL price for a 13 year old PS3 game, I won't support that and l will wait until it's second hand for like $20

The cleaned up fidelity and higher resolution makes it worth it to me. It looks great on modern 4k televisions.
RDR1 was one of the best games I ever played and I always regretted not being able to replay it. I don't like that it is 50 dollars but I do accept that it might be an accurate representation of the kind of demand Rockstar see for this port. I believe people will pay it and I think I will too (eventually)

I’m pretty hype. Not sure yet if i’ma go for it being $50. But I am excited to play on Switch. I liked the writing of the first game much more than 2. And the enemies didn’t use the same exact weapons the entire game. Plus Undead Nightmare was fantastic. Sucks that the multiplayer is not back, was better than the second
It'll probably go on sale at some point but just remember that your alternative is to spend even more money buying a different console to play the game and your cheapest option would be the Xbox 360 which will more than likely breakdown within a year of buying it
The argument being made that the price point isn't fair is coming from the perspective of it being an old game it should be cheaper rather than taking into consideration the commercially available options for alternatives

I played the PS3 version of RDR back in 2012 when it was available for free for PS+ users and never suspected it was gonna be this good. I do have RDR2 digitally though and yes i like that one too.

Though I prefer RDR2 now, I still go back to the original from time to time on my PS3 to replay some of my favorite missions. Every game should have chapter and mission replay ability.

I don't know if they fixed it but I encountered a pesky glitch on 360 with undead nightmare where after a couple hours in the game zombie heads would turn invisible. It's funny to see a bunch of zombies running round without visible heads but the novelty wore off quickly
For everyone complaining about price: give 6 months and Amazon will likely have it listed at $30. PSN and e-shop will likely have it on sale by then too.
I'll say this black Friday it will be $30 or a eshop Christmas sale.

I am super excited to play this, my pc took a shit, so I just bought a PlayStation 5, Red dead redemption 2 was one of my favorite games so having the opportunity to play the first one no matter the performance is super intriguing. I want to see the continuation of John Marston's story.
