Hey! I know you guys are probably aware, but breathing in perlite dust (crystalline silica) is actually pretty harmful, it is considered a carcinogen and can increase risk of tuberculosis. Since you handle it often in your line of work proper masks might be a good idea!
I agree! It may not seem important now, but when you are older it will catch up with you! NO COPD! Masks on when handling perlite!
upvoting this for the good info! especially since wearing masks is already common enough these days
Vote to top.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Omg thank you for this info! I’m a huge plant person, I keep a lot of tropical plants and succulents, and I make my own soil mix with a lot of perlite.
please show every clutch hatching/laying/prepping i promise you it does not get boring or repetitive. ITS AWESOME !!!
Yeah especially we this amount of clutches. It’s pretty few and far between at this point so it’ll be worth watching every one. Not to pressure them to film every time just letting them know we won’t get bored.
Now to somehow to comment that 10,000 times, all different wording so they're not considered spam. This might take a while.
@@juliusroman8616 note the date she's putting in the containers, the videos are always a bit "late" so it's still the beginning of May in the videos, I think there'll be a good amount of clutches to watch in the next days. The last video for example was in may 4th and 5th, this video was recorded probably on 5/8 (cause they wait a bit so the snake finishes laying), but it gives us a good idea of how things work in snake discovery (this delay helps them to deliver better videos and prep for emergencies so I actually like that they do it!!)
@@juliusroman8616 if they dedicated a minute to each one it's not asbad. Though, they don't like to film every prep for the babies, but if they thought enough about the baby smell, they may just do every clutch hatching/cutting. Though for the garter snakes, Emily holding them for 30 seconds is the closest thing we would get, assuming there's more than 20 clittters.
Yes! I love watching noodles hatch 🥰

Fun fact: there is such a thing as an Ostrich farm. People keep them for their eggs. You can make huge omelettes with them
also meat
And feathers
They also use them for their leather. The feather follicles make for an interesting pattern.
My grandfather used to have an ostrich farm. He also bred miniature horses. We used to tease him: Grandpa, y'got it all wrong! The birds are supposed to be small, the horses are supposed to be big! (Btw, the only real money maker from the ostriches was the eggs, and the big strategy for harvesting was to wait until the ostriches were on the other side of the pen... grab an egg and RUN LIKE HECK. They are mean. o_O)
Ostriches give lots of meat.
And their meat is more efficient meat then beef.
Ed: "What's a farm anim- Elephants! There's surely elephant farms out there!"
*controversy and drama rapidly approaches*
Emily and Ed: "Why do we hear boss music?"
Put a couple of cups of water in the perlite bag, seal it and keep it sealed. Test it in a few days, add more water if necessary, reseal. With a sealed bag it will dampen the perlite evenly (in a few days) and it stops dust. You really, really don't want to breathe it in. You can wear appropriate masks too.
Keeping bags of moist perlite is just inviting insane amount of bacteria and fungi, all eggs will rot away. Better stick to masks
YESYESYESYESYES!!!!!
It is so nice to see the snakes enjoying their realistic habitats! Especially because they are breeding! I can’t wait to see babies!
I know it’s so nice !
Bot
I can't always see those. Babies Snakes
I mean, the fact they are breeding doesn't really mean anything but yes, it's nice seeing them enjoying and using it ^^
Yes it’s so nice seeing them
I would describe the adhesive as melted marshmallow
If you've ever made rice crispie treats from home, the marshmallow is strong and "stringy" like the adhesive in snake eggs.
If someone described my eggs to taste like melted marshmallow, I'd be named Omnomlette too 😂
As someone who doesn’t own any snakes, I appreciate this description. Thanks!
That's a great comparison! No wonder Omnomlette found hers tasty.
@@SnakeDiscovery Of course. Delicious marshmallow-flavored egg. Yum

lol imau geht ah live
In honor of your new incubator I think it would be so cute if you marked the next batch of eggs with soda logos!
Clever!
I agree
I love that idea!! 😍
That would be soo cool
yes
The zebra looks like a baby tapir even though the stripes go horizontally lol love it great job Ed
I know! That one egg next to the emu and goose totally looks like a tapir!!!
YES! I just said this in another comment. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that zebra looked like a tapir.
Yea! ikr!!
I thought it looked more like an okapi with all its stripes.
OMG IT DOES!!
“Oh that’s a FAT horse if it’s a horse. It’s definitely a cow” made me squeal lmao I love Ed’s support
It would be cool if you did a clutch with all the snake discovery staff on each egg 😂😂 could be really funny to watch Emily try draw the staff
Ed: I think all animals have udders, don’t they? Except for the ones that sweat out the milk. *aggressively stares at platypuses*
Platypuses are a living form of the concept of confusion. They don't have nipples and they lay eggs ut are still considered mammals.
He said mammals, but he was still wrong lol
Mammals are an interesting group - they are split into 3. The first is the placental mammals and this group includes things that bear live young like humans, cats, dogs - things we usually think of as mammals. The second are marsupials, this is a group that carries their infants in pouches, such as kangaroos, koalas, wombats and opossums. Mostly marsupials are found around Australia because they likely evolved separately from placental mammals in that one region.
Lastly there are monotremes like the platypus and also echidnas. This group lays eggs unlike all the other mammals but still feeds their offspring milk (even though they don’t have nipples!).
I meant mammals not animals lol
@@googleitlol6590 lol it’s fine
Can confirm: Wisconsin has weird farms, Ed. My grandfather had emus and that’s pretty tame.
Why’d he raise them? The only reason I can think of is eggs and Is rather raise chickens than emus if you know what I mean. *giant claws*
@@juliusroman8616 I live in Australia and I've been chased by emu's when I didn'tdo anything to them, they're scary devil birds.
If y'all watch Useless Farm, Karen the emu is a great example of their murderous wrath.
@@juliusroman8616 All I know is that the chicks were very cute and fun, and the sire once bit my finger lol
There was an emu farm near my high school. I live in alabama.
Imagine if Jester ACTUALLY laid eggs. I'd have so many questions.
I love how this video shows you how much Emily and Ed love each other. Despite that zebra looking terrible (admitted by Ed himself) Emily is like "it's beautiful"
Omgosh! Hannah looked so cute with all of that dirt on her head!
So much excitement ahead with so many more eggs to be laid!
Thank you for bringing us along!
Edit: Omnomlette for the win!
we need a sticker of Hannah with her dirt hat.
“I put dirt on my head for a fashion statement” -Hannah, 2022 (actually Ed, when they moved the Madagascar giant hognoses into the zoo)
Sadly you lost lol. Just watched still naughty
Fun fact since you talked about palindromes:
Palindrome isn't a palindrome, but Emordnilap is an actual word. It means a word that creates another word when spelt backwards. So Palindrome Emordnilap is an Emordnilap Palindrome.
Emordnilap isn't a recognized word by major lexicons, so it's not an "actual" word (even though I do understand that all words are made up.)
@@lulucanpy3513 I mean.... give it time? Or petition Merriam's.
The Bison looks like a capybara! Just me? I think its adorable LOL 🥰
The fact that you 'Emily' draws on every 🥚 upside-down is a talent in its own! 😅
To answer the question on the end card: its because the color orange is named after the fruit, not the other way round. So that's why limes aren't called greens.
Depending on the country, the word for lime and lemon is the same in Spanish :) they're both called limón, so in some areas like Spain and Venezuela limes are called 'limón verde' (roughly, green lemon)
Some countries like Argentina use the word lima to mean lime though. (To give it additional confusion, Lima is also the capital city of Peru.)
@@snakewithapen5489 i was about to correct you that everyone here calls limes limas and then i remembered i speak rioplatense lmao
@@snakewithapen5489 id say it gets easier with context like most of spanish words, and while it works with the city Lima, the fruit and food thing is a fruity subject
@@helenaap2042 I've definitely come to understand that context is everything in Spanish lol
@@snakewithapen5489 who the heck told you that in Spain we call limes and lemons the same? That's the first time i heard that and I've spent all my life as a spaniard. I (and everyone i know) use lima for lime and limon for lemon
Emily is so good at drawing, and the fact she did it upside down makes them even better!
GO HANNAH!! This may be her second or third clutch but for some reason, I'm so proud of her!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This breeding season seems to be going _much_ better than last year’s!
I truly love your vlogs. It doesn’t matter what you are showing us, it always ends up being so educational, fun, loving and satisfying! The eggs being separated, as you said, is soooo satisfying! You two are seriously the most gorgeous couple I’ve ever seen and the accomplishments you’ve achieved over the last few years, I know it sounds so corny, but I’m so proud of you both!
Your videos are probably the only ones that my kids and I can watch over and over again and never get sick of! His zebra looks like a Fimble 💗💗💗
Anyway. Love you both and all your babies sooooooo much 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
i agree so much and i love how them and their zoo are so different than the other reptile youtubers and the other zoos and thats what makes me love them more but either way i would love them just as much! ^^ snake discovery is my favorite reptile channel for sooooooo many reasons! i could think of so many things i love about them!
My cockatiel just laid her very first egg today!!! I’m such a proud parent!
is it fertilized?
No, it shouldn’t be fertile. She is our only cockatiel!
Lol congrats 👏
TY❤️
For some reason I misread this as cocker spaniel and was very confused why a dog was laying eggs
I have a feeling that Omnomlette will be next to lay eggs.
I'm so excited to see the hatching videos. Those are my most favorite videos ever and if I was allowed to have a snake, I'd go for the absolutely adorable hognose.
I live in Wisconsin I was once driving around with my father somewhere south west of Wausau, we were on backroads and we stopped at a stop sign. I looked up and there was indeed a giraffe in a field, there was also a zebra and an emu... It was very odd, so Emily is not wrong, Wisconsin farms are weird...
No normal farm animals like camels and water buffaloes?
I have never seen a giraffe on a farm. But considering I’ve seen ostriches on farms I would absolutely NOT be surprised to find a giraffe farm.
I live in Kentucky and a farm about 15 minutes away has a Zebra. Rural Kentucky.
I live in Texas but can confirm they have Giraffe farms, my friend used to live on one it also had game animals, zebras, and wild mustangs. It also had an old pet tiger that was given away to them but it was really old and tame
As a Canadian I feel as though its my duty to educate you in the correct naming of what you called a 'Canadian Goose'. The correct name is *Cobra Chicken*!!
As an American turned Canadian, I fully agree
Can we just take a second and acknowledge of how cute of a couple they are?
Hannah laid her clutch on the day of my sisters wedding! That’s so cool to discover!
I hope your sisters wedding was great!
As hectic as this time of year is, I can only imagine the sigh of relief knowing there's so much easy content because we all love everything egg related haha. 🙋🏼♀️Hi from a Patreon.
Yup!😂👌🏼 It can just be egg videos and hatching/baby updates. I will religiously watch them all, start to finish😍
I just love their videos
many people keep emus on farms because of how hyper protective they are. they see the other animals as their family and protect them!
also im so so exited to go up there for my party on the 15th! see you guys soon!
Not my family's emus, they were terrified of everything. Now llamas, those things are scary.
One advantage of COVID is that N95 masks are pretty easy to source. When you use the Perlite, you should use a mask to stop you from inhaling the dust. That stuff cannot be good for your lungs.
Excited for your babies!
Thankyou guys for your videos, it's really been helping me lately progress and stay committed to reptiles! ❤️
I fall asleep sometimes watching your videos. I have learned so many interesting facts on snakes and all the different reptiles you have on the channel. I can't wait until I can adventure into the reptile community. You guys are my favorite channel to watch!
You know, I was thinking another benefit of the adhesive sticking the eggs together is the egg mass is so big it wouldn’t fit in mama’s mouth, in Omnomlette’s case.
Harvest Moon style games taught me the most common farm animals are cows, sheep, chickens, bees, rabbits, pigs, ducks, fish and slimes.
I love how all the egg videos are basically just art videos using the eggs as a nice round canvas
Between this channel and Reptile Zoo I’ve been so enthralled with Snake videos and hatching. I love it so much
Rabbits. Ducks. Goats. Pigs. Dogs. Chickens. Cats. Horses. Cows. Children. I have had at least one of these animals on our farm. Much love from AZ!
I'm voting that Omnomlette is going to lay next, that she'll psych you out and lay all the eggs early so she can EAT them before you notice! JK I don't think she'll eat them this year. Well, here's hoping!
I love your content, and I love seeing how all these different snakes lay eggs ,eat, and live there everyday snake lives, I was also wondering if you could give us an update on your rodent thing, and how that's going, I am really interested in things like that so if you could, that would be great, i wish the best of luck with your snake and her babies! keep working hard at your job!
These little drawings on the eggs are funny and cute at the same time. An interesting way to mark which side is the top.
Hatching and laying season has got to be the best time of year
I love her ideas for the pictures on the top of the eggs
I can’t wait to see the eggs hatching, and to see the beautiful patterns on each newborn!
"What... what kind of farm have YOU been to??"
Hahaha I LOVE Ed xD! He is all of us!
I don't want to be THAT person but I am honestly just looking out for you. Since you use a lot if perlite try not to breathe in the dust. Overtime it may be affecting your lungs. Maybe wear a mask? Or dampen before u pour? Not sure but I am just being overly cautious. I love you guys and egg videos are my absolute fave!
Emily: i can’t think of anymore farm animals!
Horses, ducks, goats, farm dogs, barn cats, llamas, alpacas, quails, donkeys: …
Lol
To be fair, Emily's sheep gave me alpaca vibes.
Emily you are such a good person. I admire you. Please don't ever change. 💕
I have nothing to do with the reptile hobby but Snake Discovery is like, one of my favourite channels on UA-cam
Does Emily always draw them upside down? I can't believe I've never noticed 😅 that would be way too hard for me. Kudos to Emily for being able to draw any of these upside down 👌
(In concern: please consider wearing your n95 masks and spray some water mist in the air when you handle dry perlite- stone dust is super bad for you and can be a carcinogen when inhaled on the regular as much as snake breeders handle it.)
Yes please do this and/or pre-moisten the perlite in the bag. You need your lungs to make more videos!
YES!!! Silicosis is a genuine disease you can get from inhaling stone dust! PLEASE PROTECT YOUR LUNGS!
I love watching you put in the pear lite it’s like sooooooooooooo satisfying and it makes me want to fly down and visit your zoo
Just a heads up perlite dust is really bad for your lungs. At work we use it a lot and are required to where masks if it is dry. Thanks for sharing all you do!
Ed’s zebra egg is destined for greatness! 🦓
Congratulations on the eggs!
LOVE the animals especially Ed’s zebra.
Honesty seeing all the set ups makes me so much more excited for all the babies!!!
You guys are amazing
Yayyyyyy so excited!!!
eggs :D also, I recommend doing the perlite stuff outside because the dust is bad for your lungs and can cause pretty severe issues
At my work at a research facility we used perlite a lot, however..! We were never allowed to use it in a dry state! We always had to put water into the bag, so that it would not dust. And the corona-facemasks were actually a blessing.
A few older colleagues already had severe lung problems from breathing it in over the years (COPD and persistent coughing). Carefull there Ed, Emily and staff! Your lungs cannot cope with that dust
I love your markings on the eggs! So cute!
the eggs are really cut
@@hadleygill8258 ikr! I am so exited for them to hatch!!
A trick my cousin and I use against dust when we change the aspen bedding for her gerbils (She's a breeder so there is a lot of them) is put on face covers like reusable masks. It's easier on our asthmatic lungs and prevents sneezing from all the dust particles in the air.
I love this channel ❤️ I have learned so much overcome my fear of snakes . Emily and Ed yall are awesome deserve of the success. Congratulations on the eggs 🥚.
