@@lucetubegplusstillsux2678 no, they were not pet-sitting. They adopted these animals from their friend and then went on vacation and decided they didn't want the animals anymore.
I hope these two will both live happy lives. My friend used to have a beardie. Her name was Tyrone. But she had some sort of unknown health issues and died. She was very bloated and they don’t know what happened to her, but it was really sad for everyone.
They've always taken in and cared for creatures in unfortunate circumstances (Rex, Cheyenne, Justin, etc). I think getting adoption island was probably huge for them to be able to do that in a bigger way. Esp since it sounds like their herp society gets a lot of surrenders too. It's really admirable
This was so sad for me to watch, my bearded dragon passed away last year after over a year of being very underweight and dehydrated. He became very sick after contracting a parasite from the mealworms from a pet shop and it completely killed his appetite and damaged his digestive system. I had his setup and care checked by multiple vets and it was all perfect so I wasn’t doing anything wrong, it was just so unfortunate that this negligence from the pet shop hurt him so badly. He wouldn’t eat at all no matter what food I offered him so I had to squirt a nutrient paste into his mouth every night, and despite this his body never absorbed enough of it to gain weight, just enough to keep him alive. He was very thin for the last year of his life and it was absolutely heartbreaking because I knew I was doing everything I could to help him but his digestive system was just too badly damaged. He eventually passed away due to a prolapse and I miss him every day. I am so glad that Phoenix and Ferrari were able to be helped and brought back to healthy weights and given to good homes, it is nice even though it makes me miss Angus, my beardie, very much
@Clarie Mckinley omg im so sorry for you my 14 year old berdie passed away not to long ago but thats tells us as humans to cherish the little time we have on this planet and to spend valuable time with family, friends and pets, may god rest his soul.
I miss my bearded dragon to my beardie passed away because her lamp bulb blew out in the middle of winter after I had gone to sleep so I couldn't catch it in time and she froze
Man that friend would no longer be my friend. Like imagine if you had someone take care of your dog and a month later they call you and say "Hey I left the dog in my house with no food for a month" while you are due to have a child soon. Never again.
I feel like that's even worse because at least reptiles eat less often than mammals. Like, both situations are cruel abuse and anyone who does it is a horrible, horrible person. But a dog would have escaped and ran away or would be dead by the end of that month. At least these guys are still alive.
Yeah but the dog wouldn't survive. It's more like "I've been gone for 3 days and your dog is at my house" still really messed up and that friend shouldn't be allowed to own pets.
@@abigbutterstick1780 For some reason I thought that dogs (and cats) were better at surviving extreme fasting than humans so I thought that 3 days was a bit of an underestimate but I looked it up and discovered that I was Very Wrong.
@@ShortForMertchel To be honest I have no idea, about 3 days without water will usually do a human in but I wasn't sure about cats and dogs. She's never refused to eat before but she wouldn't this time. I know they can do that and be okay but it still gave me some anxiety😂

Emily's fault.....I now have a pet corn snake and it's all because I've watched how she handles snakes! I saw them as cute for the first time. Hello from Norway from me and my space noodle.
Same I also have a Corn snake now because of Emily! I actually rescued her from a pretty bad situation, she was being kept in an enclosure with a heat mat that wasn't on a thermostat and it was too hot, so she was always hiding on the cold end, and was incredibly cold all the time, and was being severely underfed.
I really want to know more about Mykayla's mom and the Komoto Dragons. If the opportunity for an interview ever happened, just sayin' I suspect I'm not the only one who'd enjoy that.
As an bearded dragon owner this is one of my greatest fear that can happen to my bearded dragon, many other reptile owners and experienced handlers would very much understand, if a bearded dragons have any of these signs you definitely should check it out with an veterinarian, chances are that ether your not handling it right, or it’s having a problem. I love my bearded dragon and you should also take care of your (if you have any,) reptiles or other pets you own, all I’m saying is keep your animals safe and enjoy them because they don’t last forever, have a good day!
My beardie, when I rescued him, was in terrible conditions. 4 years old, in a 20 gallon tank. No UVB, no calcium, no hide, tiny water dish that was always empty. He'd never had a salad, and only got crickets when my parents went to visit that "friend" and mentioned how hungry he looked. He'd been tormented by their cats to the point he had PTSD, and vacuumed up 2 dozen crickets each week within a few minutes. (I slowly acclimated him to having a full belly again) It took months, possibly close to a year, to get him up to a healthy weight, and to the point where he realized that his next meal WOULD come. I had to help him across the rainbow bridge early last year. He was 13. Thank you so much for helping out all of these reptiles
Oh no, it's so heartbreaking that these precious little lives get neglected and abused. I love them so very much, I'd have a whole rescue center if i had the finances !! Thank you for being there for them. 🙏❤💯❤🦎🙏❤🌞🦋
Hey Emily! I'm so happy you guys are taking in rescues. If you don't already; I would have a waiver that people sign when they adopt that the animal is adopted as is. Just so no one can claim you guys gave people mites or a sick animal. I know you guys would rehab the animals but a waiver to protect yourself might be a good idea :). I've learned this from helping a horse rescue

Hey Emily and Ed! I was wondering, do you have any kind of vetting process for future adopters? Like asking for pictures of their setups or the care they will provide? Would be very interesting to hear about that in a future video! Btw I love all your content and especially the zoo updates! 😊
They have said in a previous video that they do vet potential adopters. In the video where they put the first ever animals into adoption island they also showed Emily specifically labelling one snake "defensive, not for beginners." So I do think they screen people quite carefully before they let them adopt. I agree it would be interesting to know more about what they look for, what questions they ask etc, though.

There was a bearded dragon in one of my sixth grade classes and I would always come visit him. His name was Harry and there was a sticker on his enclosure that said “You’re a lizard, Harry!” And I always wanted to be around him, he loved me and I loved him. I would always make sure to hold him right and not hold him if he didn’t want to. He also loved shoulders and heads. I miss him, he was so cute. 🥹

I was just given a rescue/surrendered dragon yesterday, he was not in good condition either, had no light at all, living in a ten gallon tank with calcium sand and dried food and poo, he is so so skinny and dehydrated, and I want to do my best to make him feel better and healthy. He's in a 120 gallon tank now at my house, he's got proper lighting and a wide array of veggies and bugs to eat moving forward. Thank you so much for posting such a wonderful, informative, caring video.
Awww, I'm glad they're doing better and got new homes. The fact that reptiles can go longer without food is a bit of a double edged sword, on one hand it gives them more time to be saved from this situation, but it also means they suffer longer.

I've had Beardies in the past and watching this made me very emotion. Both because it is unacceptable for how the so called "friend" treated them and because it's making me miss my babies. So happy that these lovely ladies found new homes.
This my first bearded dragon so I am new to some stuff but She always seems to not like her bath and tries to get away. Do I not give her a bath if she doesn't like it, or try to keep her in the bath. I need some tips.

Phoenix's new family sounds so cool! Maybe the Komodo dragon parent would be open to doing a tour of their facility or talking about komodos? They're terrifying but sooooooooo awesome
A couple questions for ppl who own bearded dragons, i dont have any but my friend has one 1: is it bad if the tail isnt full length, or if it has a nub at the end instead of getting to a point 2: is it okay for a lost claw not to grow back 3: is it okay if crickets or insects are a treat and salads are usualy the main food
That’s so sad! I’m glad that y’all could take them in. I have a bearded dragon and I can’t even imagine doing that he means the world to me. And my leopard gecko scratched the skin off under his tail and it started bleeding like crazy and I put some Vaseline on it but do you have any more tips?thank you!
Along with using the powder like the other person suggested, try to also give an antibiotic bath afterwards. It's from a while back, but Emily posted a video about helping a snake with bite marks along its back. If there's scarring, it can help keep that down, and it also helps keep it from getting infected. If your little guy keeps scratching, I may recommend a sweater sort of thing. I've seen people use it instead of cones for cats and dogs recovering from surgery, so it might be applicable to reptiles as well!
Me watching the beginning of the video: I’m surprised Phoenix isn’t gravid. Watches end of video: ah that makes sense 😅 I’m so glad these little loves are being cared for💕

Hey there! Thank you for taking those precious beans in and getting them more healthy. They look like they turned out a lot better than their original condition! A small note for beardies: lettuce is not a good staple food- can cause them to go #3 a lot and it doesn’t provide enough nutrients. It’s okay if you’re not giving it to them in large quantities, or too frequently, since it can help hydrate them. Collard greens is a good alternative/staple. :)
Collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, and there's others that need to be the like most of their diet. Giving them bugs need to be like 50% and fruits needs to be like 25%

He was SO over weight he looked like a tortoise.(he could not walk. His body was literally like a ball) his spine had arched up with his back and bent over to the left half way down, His eyes were completely shut and covered in gunk, he was hand feed a whole box of crickets every day and it’s enclosure was a tall glass corner unit that is made for geckos and he had NOTHING in his environment but sand so he had no room to move, no UVB, no vitamins, his tail had basically fallen off, he had scales missing, I doubt he had ever eaten a leaf of lettuce. Just placed in the corner of the room like a ornament. it was heartbreaking to see his gentle boy in so much pain. I took him to the vet straight away and he was put down. The vet told me it was a miracle he was still alive. It makes me so happy to see you rescue these beautiful animals and give them a new life with people who are able and willing to look after them!

My friend used to have a beardie. Her name was Tyrone. But she had some sort of unknown health issues and died. She was very bloated and they don’t know what happened to her, but it was really sad for everyone.
That happened to my grandmas dog :/
Was he not pooping at all? Sometimes beardies can be bloated by poop not coming out. It’s what happened to mine when he died.

Adoption island is just the sweetest idea...u give these guys home and nurse them back to health...u guys deserve a trophy for doing this. :)

If I found out my "friend" treated animals like this, they wouldn't be my friend anymore. That's all I'm saying.
You should advice them this channel!
They'd have a fun new face tattoo in the shape of a fist
My friend has a baby turtle in a super tiny home a little bit of water and over feeds. 🙁
@@Boreas- And holding their shin on the ground
Same! Nobody should treat animals like that
Man that friend would no longer be my friend.

Food kind of varies for sure but thank God they were reptiles because not much else could go so long without care. My Ball Python recently went almost 60 days without food. She's never refused to eat before but she wouldn't this time. I know they can do that and be okay but it still gave me some anxiety😂
Adoption island is so heartwarming! I love your videos and I’m so glad I was able to watch the rehabilitation of these animals
What a despicable friend, I'm so glad the original owner managed to take them back in time and that you guys rehabbed them.
Reminds me of the time I had to rehome my couple years old cat to a friend and later the cat passed because they didnt take him to the vet when he was ill. It was a horrible breach of trust and the friendship never recovered

Poor bearded dragons! I’m glad they’re in good hands now though.
Emily's fault.....I now have a pet corn snake and it's all because I've watched how she handles snakes! I saw them as cute for the first time. Hello from Norway from me and my space noodle.
I’ve got a corn snake as well because of Emily 😁
i've always wanted a snake and watching emily finally made me do it last year, a corn snake too :D
If the opportunity for an interview ever happened, just sayin' I suspect I'm not the only one who'd enjoy that.
i was expecting her to expand on that when emily asked but i think she was maybe camera shy
So glad you guys nursed these dragons back to good health!
Phoenix is like "No wrinkles in my skin, no wrinkles in my brain ☺️✨"
in the words of Haminations, "smooth brain, dumb brain"
My beardie, when I rescued him, was in terrible conditions.
4 years old, in a 20 gallon tank. No UVB, no calcium, no hide, tiny water dish that was always empty. He'd never had a salad, and only got crickets when my parents went to visit that "friend" and mentioned how hungry he looked.
He'd been tormented by their cats to the point he had PTSD, and vacuumed up 2 dozen crickets each week within a few minutes. (I slowly acclimated him to having a full belly again)
It took months, possibly close to a year, to get him up to a healthy weight, and to the point where he realized that his next meal WOULD come. I had to help him across the rainbow bridge early last year. He was 13.
Thank you so much for helping out all of these reptiles
poor guys, they were abandoned for a whole month ?? I worry when I cant feed mine for a few hours :(
Yeah they live in dry environment with little insects/ salade.
But still sad😢

at least beardies are one of the forgiving species when it comes to feed schedules
Overfeeding is just as dangerous as underfeeding
Oh no, it's so heartbreaking that these precious little lives get neglected and abused. I love them so very much, I'd have a whole rescue center if i had the finances !! Thank you for being there for them. 🙏❤💯❤🦎🙏❤🌞🦋
These beardies are so cute. I'm so glad they got the families they did.

"Hmm my friend gave me these cute little beardies! They look lonely alone, they both need a friend, I'll put them together. Okay... I've had them for a little while... They're kinda boring now... Oooh I'mma go overseas!"
"And not call a caretaker to care for them while i’m not home!"

So glad you guys helped out these beauties 💕they are thriving!
Awww, I'm glad they're doing better and got new homes. The fact that reptiles can go longer without food is a bit of a double edged sword, on one hand it gives them more time to be saved from this situation, but it also means they suffer longer.
I can’t believe how irresponsible that person was to leave them for a Month. At least now they are in good hands.
Oh saaaaaad! They're so thin! Ugh! I just want to go hug my beardy. I'm glad you have them now and that they grew up with proper care. A couple questions for ppl who own bearded dragons, i dont have any but my friend has one
1: is it bad if the tail isnt full length, or if it has a nub at the end instead of getting to a point
2: is it okay for a lost claw not to grow back
3: is it okay if crickets or insects are a treat and salads are usualy the main food

styptic powder is the recommended i've heard for cuts
Along with using the powder like the other person suggested, try to also give an antibiotic bath afterwards. It's from a while back, but Emily posted a video about helping a snake with bite marks along its back. If there's scarring, it can help keep that down, and it also helps keep it from getting infected. If your little guy keeps scratching, I may recommend a sweater sort of thing. I've seen people use it instead of cones for cats and dogs recovering from surgery, so it might be applicable to reptiles as well!

at 18:30 I think there are collard greens in the bowl. they probably just used the lettuce to better hydrate them. :)
Collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, and there's others that need to be the like most of their diet. Giving them bugs need to be like 50% and fruits needs to be like 25%
I was coming to say that lol
