As is often the case , the layout of the track can make a difference to lap times & which car holds the record if the timing is close on average at every track. The Jags roll cage weight will be similar to having rear seats instead as makes no difference. Porsche is Porsche is Perfection which cannot be beaten... The great thing about this brand is that I can beat my personal records in it, arrive home fresh as a cabbage, wife tells me we ran out of something, I'm the happiest man in the world since I get to thrash it again, then, with the same ease, put it in heavy rush hour traffic, where it behaves as good as on the track, buy the groceries, drive back home, rinse and repeat (the secret is to always "forget" to buy something important). That's something which no other manufacturer can do... I own some Astons (bought for peanuts with between 6 months to a year of ownership) and I'd refuse to drive those things in traffic even if Aston was giving me their latest model. As for the McLaren, just no. I'm sure its legally a road car, but for all practical usage, it is not. Now, this Ford surprised me a lot... Can't remember the last time I bought a Ford but the manual and lack of turbos have sold it to me. Oh, and yes, a car isn't a proper "Driver's Car" unless it has a manual, even if it's only optional, even if they add another $10,000 to the price... Please give the customer the option to choose it! SUVs, just no... Buy a G Wagon instead or, if you can't afford one, or need a "Working Mule," buy probably the best vehicle ever made, the Subaru Forester (mind that my "mule" is the 1998/99 model, not sure if the new ones are as good or if "creature comforts" have ruined it). Cheers.
Oh, I forgot, instead of the useless drag race, which is, well, useless in determining anything relevant about any car, and since you're in Comifornia, why not throw this bunch at LA or Oakland/SF rush hour traffic and see how they behave in normal everyday driving conditions? Now, that's a test I'd like to see.
The Senna is awesome, but the fact that the 911 GT2 RS based on a volume production car and without all the active aero and electronic sorcery is almost as fast is just amazing...

The most amazing of all is to notice how all of these new performance cars are getting much more efficient and balanced at track performance. Ten years ago its was a divide between power-bonkers cars like the AMGs and ZR1s where the driver was always trying to not get killed, and Ferraris and GTRs on the other side nailing more balanced and grippy performance.
@@CarStory Really I heard the opposite? That the GT350 had a lot of vibration noises and the engines have oil consumption issues. I hear the ones before 2019 had tramlining issues.

I remeber when they compared the McLaren p1 to the 918. McLaren showed up with the car in a full sized race trailor with parts, tires, engineers, and a pit crew that were constantly adjusting the car and the 918 was driven to the track from where the engineer from Porsche got breakfast that morning and just handed over the keys and was tested as is. I'm sure McLaren was adjusting that car just for this track just like McLaren and Ferrari always do when publicizing their numbers

It's been nice seeing daily videos without having to pay like the old days😏
This is for whoever at Ford reads the comments. Ever since early 2011 when the Boss302 came out you guys have been killing it. I bought one, it was great. The new GT350 and the crazy GT500, also fantastic. My wife just got a 2018 Ecoboost 10spd. What a value for the price. My one gripe is work on the trans tuning. So this is just to let you guys know how good of a job youre doing, we are watching, and buying...
Motor Trend: "most talked about car of 2019"
Also Motor Trend: let's just forget about the Supra
Meh, it's 2020 now. Supra was old news before it was even hitting the streets.
Its a BMW Supra, not Toyota
@@williampgalloway It's called, "Best drivers car"...doesn't matter the name or make.
@@christaylor192 How was it old news? People are continuously developing parts for the car. Toyota is teases numerous new iterations for the future of the model. In just a matter of a few months after release they are breaking previous Supra modification records with ease? The list goes on. Love it or hate it, I wouldn't say it's old news. Should still be included for the full test of their best drivers car I would think. Side note, I feel like they left out a BUNCH of their cars in the long list of test subjects. Not sure why they just chose to focus on a select few?
@@NEMotoGuy Sure they are making modifications for the Supra but are they selling enough Supra's to keep the model around? Guess we'll see. It's still too early but I think it'll stop selling after 3-5 years.
Randy is a monster, watching how late the braking zones are and the speed of the corkscrew, wow what courage
The project 8 jaguar actually broke the Nurburgring record for a sadan and breaks alot of other cars records there. Plus it's the fastest and most powerful jaguar.
Sedan*
And it was modified with a roll cage, which added rigidity
And the record breaker didn't have backseats which makes the whole car absolutely pointless…
AMG made it with all the Luxury amenities on board…
As is often the case , the layout of the track can make a difference to lap times & which car holds the record if the timing is close on average at every track. The Jags roll cage weight will be similar to having rear seats instead as makes no difference. It would be interesting to see the result against the AMG if the old supercharged V8 had an extra 80 bhp as seen in the Lister (F-Type ) LFT 666 !
@@aidanwilson6035 Interestingly enough, the Project 8 is actually lighter with the rear seats in it than the roll cage. I know this seems ironic, but remember it is a custom made steel structure that dominates the interior when it's fitted.
That being said, I have to say I'd be interested to see the full ranking from this year. If That Jag can't at least get into the top 5, then I just don't know what Jag has got to do to up the anti.
That senna should've been nowhere near that Porsche. Porsche must've just built an amazing car
Yeah they did. I think HyperCars are built like speed cars and super cars focus on corners and stuff more. That senna has the speed of a hypercar and the track focus of a supercar. Porsche did well
this guy reminds me of ned forrester from dude perfect
Always!!! Been watching these two channels since I was young.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Porsche. All. Day. Long.
There really is no substitute.
Mate match a gt500 which is cheaper and has 750hp to the crank it would destroy the turbo s for cheeper and its only 0.2 seconds off the gt3 rs
@@reganscoullar7474 Does that make it as refined, comfortable, versatile and classy as the 911? There's more to life than power buddy. Some people dont want to wear a bro-tank to a wedding.
The legendary Bag yeah but gt500 is american...cant match german perfection..
It truly is. Goes against all logic to put the engine on the rear axle but in the end that is the biggest reason the 911 is what it is. It truly is the most dependable, most versatile and the most engaging driving experience you can get. You can buy more expensive cars and more powerful cars, but they will not be better.
@@reganscoullar7474 it is cheaper for a reason, being the build quality, which is going to probably be pretty bad.
GT350 is one of my dream cars. Man i really hope to own one someday but im sure the prices are gonna skyrocket in a few years
They made a whole ton of them, even the R should be north of 2000 sold as I type this, and the normal one 10x that. GT500 will keep the value depressed for some time
Shelby GT350 - Truly Amazing!
Thank you motor trend and welcome back...💜
Ive driven a 911 (997.2) It is a very composed and stable car even at high speed. Very impressed with it.
Gt350 is the best sounding of the bunch, imo
I did a double take to make sure this was the old Motor Trend I knew. Thankfully it’s much improved. Great job 👍.
The sound that GT 350 makes!!!
On a personal note, I will never stop loving Johnny L and Randy P! Most honest and genuine gents in the biz (less we forget the legendary Chris Harris). ❤️
That GT 63S is amazing.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Motortrend TV is $25 for a YEAR with no ads. That's a totally reasonable price to pay for me, seeing as there's also a ton of old top gear episodes I haven't seen before. This is good content and expensive to produce, if you can afford it, it's worth supporting it.
As much as I thought I’d move to a 911 when it finally came to to sell my Boss 302, Ford has given me a reason to save some money. And to think, I originally wrote the GT350 off as too expensive. Thanks MT.
Where’s the ALPINE A110? How come it isn’t on a driver’s car contest! That’s purely what it is. And a legendary return!
I love how the mustang and the porsche is consistent with these awards.
Well they did say that they hated the Mustang GT PP2 for the 2018 model year, and that it came in dead last.
*are
@@ericparham1086 The last gen GT500 wasn't well received either.
@@ericparham1086 But the other two American cars are here because the Mustang exist.
And Mustang is the only one that hasn't gone out of production.
Dodge Charger/challenger once.
Camaro soon to be twice.
And it's the number one selling sports car in the world since 2015.
And It has following the other two could only dream of.
So give the blue oval some respect.
all this hate but I'm glad y'all posted! please come back!
I can't argue with the winner being I'm a die hard Porsche guy but the value of the GT350 is so good I feel I'll be able to achieve getting one sooner.... especially with 2 kids in private school....I can't wait🤗
Randy Pobst is my number track tester... No one can come close to he details about how a car drives and reacts... Also he has decent lap times as well... 😁 Love this guy really... Tanner is not to far behind
That mustang is my dream car.. GT500 is great but this ones affordable-ish!
I love my GT350. Love seeing this.
The Senna is awesome, but the fact that the 911 GT2 RS based on a volume production car and without all the active aero and electronic sorcery is almost as fast is just amazing...
I'll take the Shelby
Randy Pobst is the man! You can tell that guy is just loving life.
Best Drivers car is the Manual! GT350!
I have to agree! And it's HALF the price of the 911 Carrera S!
@@CarStory Nothing is better than a manual as far as driving and feeling connected to the car. Plus that GT350 just sounds insane at 8,000RPM
@@StickShiftMuscle I am SO TEMPTED to trade my GT in for the GT350! Videos like this are KILLING ME!
@@CarStory it's hard to beat the sound of a naturally-aspirated 8000 RPM flat-plane crank monster Voodoo engine! It's truly a piece of History and a rare motor at that the price of only be going up are those cars manuals are dying breed
Merica Muscle the 350 isn’t NA because it has a supercharger. But it should have still one best driver car
Watching Randy on the track is the bees knees I'm also a fan of Camissa's new channels so watching the together is fun. GT500, C8 Z06/ZR1, M3 Comp, and whatever new variance of the 911 need to all be there next year.
The Mustang makes angry noise 😍
It angry ya
OMG!! Free content! That’s not normal for the new Motor Trend
Looking forward to the drag race!👍
Really happy this was posted on UA-cam this year.
That GT63 AMG is INSANE!!
The M5 Comp. should've been included to compete against the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S!
Da70Dude hey boys bmw fanboy in here
Archer brother just kidding, calm down, get a life, deep breath and just enjoy life
Because it'll crush the GT 63s
Hemant Chawla I love BMW but you got to admit that the GT63S is faster, like much Faster, the real rival to the M5 is the E63S and the M5 beats it sometimes
@@MoJo-2977 a hint for what are u smokin' ? 🤓
Will there be a world's greatest drag race?
Don’t think so, Senna would win for sure
Of course. It is tradition
There is one but they're not putting it up on UA-cam. You have to pay for motortrend on demand
@@benchaggaresmusic I guess that doesn't surprise me
@motortrend please give us a continuous shot of the drag race from one camera, it is so annoying to see a 13-second race being split up into 100 different camera angels
Yay!! Feels great to be back watching this. Brings back so many great memories from the early 2010s when MT's BDC used to be one of my most anticipated videos of the year. I hope there's a World's greatest drag race coming up as well.
Welcome back to UA-cam, where it all began.
The DBS is one of the most beautiful cars available today. I love it
What about the 2019 Corvette ZR1?
Jesus Cuellar they had it in last years best driver car
Yah they had it in last years but let’s be real, Porsche is just unbeatable and the ZR1 would’ve compete
Because the ZR1 isn’t new for 2019. It wasn’t even changed, aside from gaining a couple grand in MSRP because lAsT yEAr oF c7.
CHARLIE STEED viper acr would be better
The most amazing of all is to notice how all of these new performance cars are getting much more efficient and balanced at track performance. Ten years ago its was a divide between power-bonkers cars like the AMGs and ZR1s where the driver was always trying to not get killed, and Ferraris and GTRs on the other side nailing more balanced and grippy performance.
Mustang GT350, best all around American bargain priced awesomeness! And it's half the price of the 911 Carrera S!
Don't forget about the Camaro SS 1LE! Lol
@@chris91G Great car but I think the Mustang GT350 is the better daily driver due to ride quality.
@@CarStory Really I heard the opposite? That the GT350 had a lot of vibration noises and the engines have oil consumption issues. I hear the ones before 2019 had tramlining issues.
Christopher Sandoval Oh wow. I haven't heard that yet but I'll look into it before I buy one. I love the look of the ZL1 1LE. That car looks sinister. I think years from now it will be worth more than the Z06.
@@CarStory Yeah the 2019 got different tires and updated suspension so they don't tramline as bad. It's a great car. You can't go wrong with any of them. Yeah I wish they would update it with the LT5 and a dual clutch to compete with the new GT500.
Out of all those cars if I could choose one it’d most definitely be the Shelby gt350 😍
As a GT350 owner I agree with so much of what was written, and the fact that it is affordable for most normal people. Most accessible drivers car!
Will there me a Worlds Greatest Drag Race 9?
Be*
Yes. Those two guys will put on dresses and have a foot race.....
it's up now
Loved the comeback to YT & this new format!!
I think the Porsche is the best all round car
Yeah it’s just boring
Chevy corvette ftw considering the cost
@@jashmodi I mean, in terms of all round car the Mustang is pretty well known for that, and in the case of the GT350, it technically beats them all. It has a manual N/A 5.2L Flat Plane Crank V8 with 526 HP and 429 TQ revving up to 8250 RPM. All in a neat package that can run crazy good on the road and track and costs less then every car here on the list.

Can't say that I'm not disappointed. They complain of a lack of manual transmissions and when a ridiculously fun one comes along, who do they crown.... another Porsche. I'd say the Porsche is the better 'car' but the better drivers car is obviously the Ford.

The Porsche 992 front bumper looks very VW beetle imo
yup it's so black and horizontal
What a video, what a comparison ! Great job guys. It was simply beautiful to watch
If the new 911 992 carrera s is so good, i can't imagine how good awd 4s will & how good turbo s will be which debuts in 2020 (already hearing rumours of it 0-60 in 2.5 s ) ..well don't want think beyond that oops gt2rs n gt3rs
