Yes the McLaren won, but imo the real winner was the Mustang for the simple fact that it beat BMW's finest and stacked up with cars 3 times its cost. That is impressive.
Jacobo exactly, the japanese spend fifteen years perfecting the nsx, only to have it beaten by the americans when they put recaro's and fat tires on a mustang gt. bravo
Jacobo I couldn't agree with you more I love the McLaren but for the price I would rather three of the GT350R's then just one McLaren and if I had to choose a McLaren it would be the 720 that one is absolutely gorgeous in Copper
But let's be honest, that $65k mustang is still selling for like $90k due to demand. The Camaro SS 1LE is 97% as capable as the GT350R and really does only cost $40k. The Alpha platform is just on a new level of performance for the price. That Camaro is the biggest winner in the contest. GM just needs to refresh it so people actually like the style enough to pay money for it.
Seriously. This was decent. Loved the golfcart intro, no excessive jump cutting (see: top gear), the techno didn't get in the way of the engine noise, and the explanation of the final selections were defensible and made sense. Well done to hosts and production crew!
My 2016 Mustang 310 hp Ecoboost 4 banger was 1/4 the price of a GT350. I couldn't be happier, great gas mileage and more power than my 70's oldsmobiles! And the camaro was last hahaha!
How was the Camaro last? It had almost the same track time as the M4 GTS and the GT-R, beat a lot of the cars on here and it costs the least. I like the GT350R most but come on.
my comment was for the worlds greatest drag race six. dont know how it got on this vid...and maybe my stang was closer to 1/3 the price. but still 40000+ less and I got an awesome deal. ha the dealer lost money on the car but made it up on the quota
That Ecoboost is no slouch, with the track package on Motortrend's last 8-figure test, it did it in 24.2 seconds. Faster than an Evo X or the Mustang GT.
I found a gt350r for 66k 😂 sadly no one who's gonna put 10k on the car will get it for anywhere under 70k, walk in there with 20k down and they I'll negotiate with you.

Don't get me wrong, the McLaren must be a pleasure to drive. And great all around. But I doesn't feel anything when I look at it or when I hear it. same goes for the audi or the porsche. I can't tell them apart from the other models at a glance or by sound. The shelby feels like a different story. I only have to listen for it. I'm incredibly satisfied with the way you guys compare & contrast these muscle & super cars with legit facts & complete honesty. Favorite show on UA-cam no doubt! That 350R tho no car has a sound like it 😍
NSX - Nice, but too many gizmos, motors, computer etc GT-R - Godzilla getting a bit old now GT350 - Pretty dam good improvement for a muscle car - FINALLY! V12 Vantage - Catwalk model on Cocaine R8 V10 - Looks part of shaving kit, lacks soul, copy paste Lambo M4 GTS - What the M4 should have been, stupid water boost F-Type SVR - Stop trying to be a muscle car, E-Type wasn't SS 1LE - Muscle car trying to be a Vette trying to be a muscle car ACR - Hulk with an aerokit AMG GTS - Been a while coming Merc 911 - Usual cocktail with a little extra AGAIN! 570s - Wouldn't expect anything less from McLaren - thanks P1 development!
Glad the McLaren 570S won. People were criticizing the 12C just because it wasn't a Ferrari, while it was years ahead in terms of technology and Performance. But the guys from Woking took criticism, and perfected their product, to finally make them so good that you can't even argue anymore. Props to McLaren.
Pennywise Excuses to bash the newcomer. It was lighter than the 458, and way more technologically advanced suspension-wise. Their Platform is known to be able to absorb bumps better while going faster because it has no anti-roll bars, and uses a kinetic suspensions system. The main argument was that the 458 is more engaging.
So how about those American engineers? Seeing how the Ford and Chevy are contenders to very high priced cars. They can bring comparable performance with a tiny budget. Speaks for itself!
lol wait til the German fan boys say "but the interior isn't made of baby calf skin and there no refinement and the dash isn't made from wood of a sunken pirate ship."
That's crazy to think a Mustang and a McLaren were the final 2. Edit: don't read replies, apparently "mustang" is a trigger word for kids wanting to argue.
Aidan red Not a fanboy I do love all good cars and it is a great era to live in. I think what really pisses me off and throws me off the most is the retarded dealer markup on the gt350. They act like it's the best thing in the world and it's crazy that some people are even paying it.
I hate to say this, but when you connect the dots and step back. (I'm going to preface this by saying I know this is going to ignite a firestorm) Does this show the rise of Ford Performance to actually replace what BMW and M Division was to all of us car geeks of the 90s? BMW just brought out their best drivers car yet of recent models (agreed on by all MT staff and others) and it finished 11th out of 12. Look at what FP has brought us in the form of really great drivers cars, not necessarily the fastest cars straight line or lap times. But, really really good driving involvement and good ol' fashioned fun. Fiesta ST Focus ST Focus RS Fusion Sport (To be yet decided, but it looks good) Mustang Shelby GT 350 Mustang Shelby GT 350R Ford GT
Ford (really America) is definitely doing some stuff very right. The Fusion Sport I don't think belongs in that list though, its not really sporty or fun...its just a pretty quick AWD sedan.
Erik Sturzebecher I think you're right. However don't forget the days of the early RS models, I think the American market was unfortunate to not get cars like the Sierra or Escort RS Cosworths. I've always liked Ford and BMW performance variants, but always had a soft spot for Ford.
really should appreciate everyone behind the show. video quality,dialogues,...... everything was top notch. saddest part is to wait another year for the show😭
Dornz is insan3 A few actually. But like I said, who cares. Best driver's car isn't about the price of the car, it's anout how it feels to drive. Just because a car is cheaper or more expensive than another car, doesn't change how it feels to drive. A car can cost $100 million and be terrible to drive, or cost $10k and be brilliant, and vice versa. That's why these cars a very different price points compete together. If price was a determining factor half these cars wouldn't even be contenders just because of their price.
That's one of the problems....This is the only engine Ford DOESN'T offer as a carte engine. They sell the block/heads separately but don't offer the crank and other parts. Also that parts price you could buy a GT500 engine.
So the Porsche 991S won this competition in 2012 and followed it up by winning again with the 4S in 2013. It then finished in the top 3 every year since! 2014 and 15 Porsche finishes second and third. Here we are in 2016 and guess what Brand we find in the top 3 finalist yet again! Porsche is the definition dynasty in this competition. Some 50 plus models tested over 5 years and there is a Porsche in the final three every year. The next model up for contention is likely to be the 991.2 GTS or GT3. Many of these models are offered in one design with select options while Porsche has a car for every appetite. RWD or AWD! Mid engine or rear engine! A front engine Porsche super car is on the way which slots under the 918 but above the Turbo S. Lastly its amazing how well Porsche builds its product. Unlike many of these other cars the Porsche 911S can be a daily driver and in the 4S version can be an all season daily driver.
MrGhost370 Yes that was the 2015 finalist I spoke of! Anyone doing the math on this would conclude Porsche, as a sports car maker, is the most dominant brand in the world given these results. 1, 2 or 3 every year for the last half decade. Out of over 50 cars tested and each had to be a new model for that year. If it Ain't broke don't fix it! If Porsche were a sports team they would be the one to beat year after year considered most likely to be in the Super Bowl.
MrGhost370 Last year they could have used the 911 GTS but chose the GT4. Not that the GTS is a better car but it is faster. Point being there is always a great Porsche in this battle no matter what the model. Says something given every year can only include production cars from that year yet Porsche manages to come out on top every year by placing in the top 3. How many other car makers can even field a new car every 3 years let alone every year? Why not just declare its a Porsche and 2 other cars in the top three every year from now on! It would make it far more simple.
MrGhost370 GT4 is a great purist Porsche but its simply is not as fast as a 911 GTS which is by design. No way! Not even close! GT4 is a manual vs with a tuned down S engine putting out 385HP vs the 430HP you get in the GTS. Not counting the PDK and Sport Crono that adds to the GTS performance. Fully loaded model is what MT tests as does Porsche for top speed on all its cars. GT4 is a great car but Porsche did not tune it to just under the S for any reason. They slotted each car to fill a certain performance range. Porsche could put a 911 GTS engine into a Cayman or even a GT3 engine into a Cayman which would be an almost perfect car. That is an "IF" not a reality. The reality is a tuned down 991.1 S version of the engine putting out less power. BTW I'm referring to the 911 GTS not the Cayman GTS in case you think otherwise. Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times (2012) 991S 7:37 (2015) GT4 7:42 That's a about 5 sec slower than the 991S of 2012 not the new 991.2! Care to guess what it did against the 911 GTS given its that much more a 911 in every way compared to a standard S? None of this is to degrade the GT4 as its a great car but track times don't lie and again that's by design on the part of Porsche.
That's not all that surprising when you consider they've been building basically the same car for 50 years. (Yes, so have Ford and Chevy/mostly, but only recently have the Mustang and Camaro been respectable driver's cars.
wow. MT is stepping up the production team budget big time and it shows. better than top gear and anything else on tv or the internet. I would call the gt350 the best driver car simply because of the third pedal. but the mclaren is awesome too. Loved the show.
Motor Trend Channel Team. Guys you've made my best moto week ever ! I've been chasing every finished part of each 12 track episode. Sometimes I had to stop a car, sneak to toilette or wake up earlier to not missed it but it was worth every minute. Great driving, camera job, comment. Real profesionals with passion. Thank You !!
Wyatt Lawrence Chevy and Ford are killing it with performance per dollar. The mustang GT and Camaro SS are both fantastic card and can be found for only 30k which is insane
hey sir Jonny i know that you love plus commends....but can i ask you to show at end when time grill shows...what tire cars uses...because that create a big arguments...because as randy says carrera s was on street tire(randy words 28.42)
Look at the tire size, specially front. this and 1LE have the same size front tires as the M4 has as REAR tires. See, BMW doesn't cheat with race spec tires. The Mclaren has 225s as front tires, lol.
I genuinely like every single car in this comparison, and they are all amazing for one reason or another, but for whatever reason, that Porsche REALLY pulls on my heartstrings, I love it!
I feel like the mustang should have won. If you're talking about a drivers car I would think it's something that you would drive daily and not store in your garage and drive it once a month (McLaren). The mustang is much less expensive and it's a much more daily driver. You see them around a lot more because people like them and people can afford them. Unlike that $200,000 McLaren. Anyways just my opinion love both cars though! Great Video.
I you wanted, you could daily drive the McLaren. Especially if they tested a 650s with its crazy suspension. Besides, if it was based on best daily driver, the R8 or Porsche probably would have got it
its not about money its about how the car feels for the driver to have fun with it. the stang is amazingly good (coming from a camaro driver) but the mclaren feels more like the drivers prolonged arm or foot - a drivers car. the enthusiasts car. the fun machine
Viper: The Tractor R8: The Teutonic Advance 570S: British Engineering GT S: Shalom! GT350R: Make America Great Again! 911: Bringing Back The Kaiser GTR: Godzilla M4 GTS: The U-Boat Camaro: Merica! F-Type: The Super Villain Vantage: Rule Britannia! Rule!
Am I the only one who loves the F-Type SVR? It may have small problems and not be the fastest, but man it looks like great fun! The design is beautiful and V8 supercharged sound is music to my ears.
Go to college, major in journalism, become very good at writing, public speaking and video production. Get the best internships you can, become an expert on a subject you love, move to L.A. or New York where you can compete amongst the best in the business, work long hours until you stand out, network as much as possible, spend your weekends at work or working on indie projects to help your resume and remain relevant, apply for jobs over and over until someone decides you are the right match and keep working your ass off so that you are good enough to get the next job you want while fending off competitors vying for your current job. Repeat. Super easy.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ford Shelby GT350R was the cheapest or second cheapest car in the whole group, and it came 2nd overall!!! Very, Very Impressive! Definitely then the undisputed bang for buck champion!
Not even close. The Camaro SS 1LE is $40,000 (Mustang GT350R is $100,000) and was 98.3% as fast, has a better quality interior, better ride quality, equal handling and feel with better steering feel. The Camaro is the best bang for the buck champion by an absolute mile and it's not even close.
Exactly. I'm curious why it was not included. maybe because it was too exclusive, but isn;t that the case for the Viper as well? They didn't even mention the 911R. It would be my pick even though I have not even driven any of these cars.
There are literally 100s of thousands of people in the US that can afford a McLaren. It's only $2400 a month for a lease on a typical-spec 570S. That may sound like a lot but someone with $120k in disposable income after expenses and taxes still has $10k/month in play money. A $200k/yr income doesn't even come near the 1% and is only considered upper middle class.
Iv seen allot of comments saying that the GT350R should be the winner as its the best value for money. But, this is NOT a value test, its the best drivers car test. The car which is the most enjoyable to drive is the 570S. So hence, it won MT's Best Drivers Car.
For me although I don't disagree with the decision, I find a paddle shifter or any semi auto transmission a slight killer to being a drivers car. Like Randy Pobst, it needs 3 pedals to be fully involving. But maybe they did think of that and the 570S is docked marks there but it's other qualities keep it in 1st. I would love a Mclaren no doubt, but I would wish it were a stick shift.
Owen Klaiss It's certainly a bargain and although I feel the GT350(non R version) is the best bang for buck I wouldn't argue with you as I also think it's very close. If we consider the mark up on GT350's though, then it's not close, Camaro hands down. I also think that the Camaro having a stick is the best drivers car option and adds to the value. GT350R could also be considered a bargain since it's resale value is likely to be extremely high.
yeah true that. I have to say viper from being a fat block on wheels have came far and improved a lot. The times it pulled were unexpected and the gt 350r is a total beaut from exhaust sound to looks as well.
sneakernomics I could have worded that better. I love the Miata, my brother has one and I'm thinking about getting one, but they can't get through a video without plugging and completely over hyping it.
right. I like the "miata is the true race car". Guys please. Mazda is so off the target for me when looking for sports cars. There was a time mazda was cool, RX, MSpeed 6/3... but what now? They make economy cars that are quite honestly...boring.
Hate to say it, like Jonny and Jason but I prefer to old school film style and I'm partial to Carlos. I'll still watch but I enjoy Evo's style much more.
The man, the myth! Been a fan for years. Guess I'm old school, I really enjoy your input on the daily fix where you really show your knowledge of these cars. You're a car genius, but you wouldn't know it from the latest films. Wish you had a way to incorporate how knowledgeable you are on these videos. With that said, I'm grateful for the daily fix because I still get to hear it there. Best of luck.
The best part is, you can watch both. I like both - Evos delivery is typically a bit more sober and arguably more oriented towards the technical, historical and perhaps the artistry of the cars; Motor Trend is arguably more fun. It's definitely interesting to see where opinions divide between the two though. FWIW I've been active daily on the Evo Mag car forum for over a decade (terrifying thought...), and only really started following MotorTrend because of Roadkill and checked out some of the other content (ignition, dirt every day, head to head, etc) and enjoyed it. The content from Evo and Motor Trend are both really, really good though. If you like Evo, do check out Harrys Garage, though - the ex MD/owner of Evo, going through his personal collection of cars, which are as esoteric and special as you would expect.
You guys are so mean. Jason cammisa is way cooler than both those losers. Then again now i'm picturing a ducky that danced AND knew shit about cars. (:
Yes and then you could drive both to the nearest Olive Garden for fine Italian dinning as both the 350R and the Viper are as refined a sports car as is Olive Garden in terms of great Italian Food! There is a reason no one thinks of either of these as true sports cars. Pony cars and muscle cars are not sports cars!
Next year: Aston Martin DB11 Lexus LC500 Mercedes AMG GTR Chevy Camaro ZL1 Honda Civic Type R Ford GT Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifolgio Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe.
McLaren? Best car of 2016? I guess being able to buy 3 GT350s instead of the McLaren and comparing the reliability of a McLaren to a Ford... The Mustang did actually did WIN the Comparo by far: 350% more desirable. (3 cars at 100% each PLUS a 50% bonus for reliability).
LOL...maybe one that's been in an accident. The regular GT350 is even that cheap. Motor trend says $20k over sticker in the GT350R best driver's car video. The shelby cars are being sold for more than that over sticker. The cheapest GT350 I've seen was going for $80k and the Gt350R's are going for $110
If I had to pick one of those cars for a drive the last one I 'd choose is the mclaren. The best driver's cars should be manual and NA or it should at least sound good! The 570s is none of that. Sure it's an engineering masterpiece but is it actually any fun??? I 'd choose the R8 or the GT350R or the Aston they all sound mean as hell!
I look forward to that also, hopefully that video comes out sooner than later. If i remember last year it was a few days after the finale of the competition.
Shows don't grow on trees in TVLand. There are things called sponsors who give the producers of a TV show money so that the producers can pay for things to make the show, like cameras and paychecks. In return for the money they give, the producers let the sponsors put their products in the show or run advertisements during the show. When they put products in a show, it is called "product placement." And that is how TVLand works, Johnny RASX.
I laughed. But objectively, Mazda went from bland as shit, to doing literally everything right. Best looking and handling crossovers, decent overall mazda3 and 6, and fucking excellent-in-every-way 2016+ ND Miata. If you've never driven one, you need to just hop in one and beat the piss out of it for like 15 minutes. And I mean any miata.
Best driver's car,..not most bang for the buck. Budget concerns force most of us air sucking mortals to purchase most bang for the buck. I love my $35K Mustang GT.
Hands down, god bless this camera crew they make this show so great wish a lot more people would notice that.
Definitely. I was watching a few older best driver's cars videos and they've come a long way.
This is why their On Demand service has to exist.
noticed and complimented them on an earlier episode. I mean we are talking about broadcast network level of quality cinematography
Honestly, maybe even better.
Agreed!!!
I'd say its gotten to the point its better then network tv stuff or at the very leasts matches some of the best network tv stuff(Like top gear for example)
Thank you Motor Trend for being the best car enthusiast channel on youtube, and putting out the funniest and most true car videos out there.
Thank you for watching Jay!

best 39:46 minutes of my life.
you've got to be kidding. so tired of hearing both of these fuckers whine about fantastic cars, roads, speed,...
+Jack Ol'Bean ...sounds like someone needs his Bean rubbed

Thanks Daniel! That's high praise and greatly appreciated.
Agreed
You're so f right! It's fun, it's about cars, they have charisma AND Randy can talk unlike The Stig. I LOVE MOTOR TREND!
I think Motor Trend needs to do longer episodes, the fun ends tooo fast!!!....johnny and jason are killing it...please do longer episodes ... speaking of amazing presenters..... chris harris !!! he's got style too!!! Thanks for watching and enjoying!
Seriously. This was decent. Loved the golfcart intro, no excessive jump cutting (see: top gear), the techno didn't get in the way of the engine noise, and the explanation of the final selections were defensible and made sense. Well done to hosts and production crew!
Great show! But still waiting for the giant group drag race.
Hey Randy how tall are you can you really fit the MX5?
It better be with 4 mill subs lol
Mustang 350R is 1/4 the price of the McLaren 570s and almost won I'm impressed.
My 2016 Mustang 310 hp Ecoboost 4 banger was 1/4 the price of a GT350. I couldn't be happier, great gas mileage and more power than my 70's oldsmobiles! And the camaro was last hahaha!
1/3

I was hoping the Shelby won. It's kind of obvious that a car that's three times the price would beat it, that's what's fantastic about the Mustang.
With the stupid ass ford dealership markup sadly the price listed is no longer true about the shelby it's around a $100,000 car now sadly : (
I found a gt350r for 66k 😂 sadly no one who's gonna put 10k on the car will get it for anywhere under 70k, walk in there with 20k down and they I'll negotiate with you.
I feel like you wrong.
The only dealers who have any tact left and are selling GT350/R's at retail price are completely sold out to pre-orders, and all of those people are returning customers.
The ONLY way to get a GT350R right now is to pay roughly $30k sharkup.
In terms of value Camaro 1LE probably takes the trophy, even though it still didn't take top 3.
Just take the tires and rims from GT 350 put on SS and it would probably beat 350 lap time...?
The fact that a Ford Mustang is in the conversation with a Porsche and a Mclaren makes me so happy.
I agree
@@lejohnd2430 I love that Audi R8
My dream car
Still bitter that it didn't win. The 570S blends into the background with a turbo motor that sounds just like the rest of them. Beyond that? Well....it's a mid-engined supercar. Just like the rest of them.

Right! Something that definitely could not be said in the 60s & 70s.
Right now? I would say Motor Trend is the best car show/channel available in the world.
Thank you Ngaka. We appreciate it.
ya I agree with you
ya I agree
Here comes "The Gran Tour" :D
Yes maybe in youtube is the best one, but the best is i would say auto motor und sport channel is the best one...german one.
Good choice. I think a trophy should go to Randy Pobst for having machine like skill, consistency, and courage.
I agree 100%, Randy is definitely the true champion.
I love Randy he's so funny. He has little show called the Racing Line and it's him teaching the fundamentals of racing. It's pretty cool. Check it out if you haven't already.
Yes! Pobst Blue Ribbon
The McLaren might be #1 but considering the Shelby is less than a third of the price, it's #1 in my books.
I'd rather have the McLaren that will turn heads and I can drive on the street.
The mclaren ain't going to make me turn my head. The shelby will. The mclaren is boring looking IMO
Themixeur Gaming Don't care
Don't get me wrong, the McLaren must be a pleasure to drive. And great all around. But I doesn't feel anything when I look at it or when I hear it. same goes for the audi or the porsche. I can't tell them apart from the other models at a glance or by sound.

65K to 200K? You guys are getting massively fucked.
I'm incredibly satisfied with the way you guys compare & contrast these muscle & super cars with legit facts & complete honesty. Favorite show on UA-cam no doubt! That 350R tho no car has a sound like it 😍
You guys are honestly the go to car channel, I couldn't think of a better pair of automotive journalist to do the job. Bad ass job!
Why thank you, sir!
Jonny do you like the F type SVR? I see you said you liked the F type R better, why is that?
I don't recall saying that
Wait you have a UA-cam channel?

NSX - Nice, but too many gizmos, motors, computer etc
GT-R - Godzilla getting a bit old now
GT350 - Pretty dam good improvement for a muscle car - FINALLY!
V12 Vantage - Catwalk model on Cocaine
R8 V10 - Looks part of shaving kit, lacks soul, copy paste Lambo
M4 GTS - What the M4 should have been, stupid water boost
F-Type SVR - Stop trying to be a muscle car, E-Type wasn't
SS 1LE - Muscle car trying to be a Vette trying to be a muscle car
ACR - Hulk with an aerokit
AMG GTS - Been a while coming Merc
911 - Usual cocktail with a little extra AGAIN!
570s - Wouldn't expect anything less from McLaren - thanks P1 development!
This has so much truth
+Jack Ferrasci kinda is
+Jack Ferrasci kinda is
The R8 really doesnt have much of a soul, they really need to fix that and add a little more personality. Something to make it special.
How is the SS 1LE trying to be a Vette and a muscle car? The 350GTR is trying to be their premium GT and still failed as BDCOTY
Yeah if you have a small penis
People criticized the 12C for it's handling, not because it wasn't a Ferrari.
+Pennywise 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Pennywise Excuses to bash the newcomer. It was lighter than the 458, and way more technologically advanced suspension-wise.
Their Platform is known to be able to absorb bumps better while going faster because it has no anti-roll bars, and uses a kinetic suspensions system.
The main argument was that the 458 is more engaging.
+Kaisuke971
The McLaren 12C is like a somewhat dirty librarian while the Ferrari 458 is model that has 3 degrees from Oxford
Man, this was a good time for this magazine. Those times don't come back
So how about those American engineers?
Seeing how the Ford and Chevy are contenders to very high priced cars. They can bring comparable performance with a tiny budget.
Speaks for itself!
No i didnt forget the Viper just they eliminated it since its strickly a race car.
inb4 some Europoor starts arguing about cheap interiors or something
lol wait til the German fan boys say "but the interior isn't made of baby calf skin and there no refinement and the dash isn't made from wood of a sunken pirate ship."
No, it's fully street legal but it is now discontinued.
I meant Motor Trend eliminated it right from the start since its strictly a race car. Im more comparing the values in price of the ford and chevy.
One of the best shows I've Watched on you tube for a long time, thanks Motor Trend 👍👍
Thanks for watching Brett. We'll be back next year for 2017 Best Driver's Car.
when will be the worlds greatest drag race 6
ZO6 is a year old and Best Driver's Car is for new cars only.
Nest year, those are 2017.
Hmm. like the aston martin v12 vantage - which is 8 years old? or the Nissan which is 9 years old?
That's crazy to think a Mustang and a McLaren were the final 2.
Edit: don't read replies, apparently "mustang" is a trigger word for kids wanting to argue.
Only because the ZL1 is a 2017 car. It'll destroy any mustang for the next few years.
Todd Ison Stop being a fanboy and appreciate good cars
Aidan red Not a fanboy I do love all good cars and it is a great era to live in. I think what really pisses me off and throws me off the most is the retarded dealer markup on the gt350. They act like it's the best thing in the world and it's crazy that some people are even paying it.
The 1LE is also a 2017.
Well considering the cost... It is not impressive that it's faster than any current mustangs - IT COSTS MORE!
Fiesta ST
Focus ST
Focus RS
Fusion Sport (To be yet decided, but it looks good)
Mustang Shelby GT 350
Mustang Shelby GT 350R
Ford GT
You're right Erik - in fact some have said the GT350/R is the M3 everyone always wanted. I'd agree with that.
Erik Sturzebecher I think FP is one of the best brands in the industry right now
Ford (really America) is definitely doing some stuff very right. The Fusion Sport I don't think belongs in that list though, its not really sporty or fun...its just a pretty quick AWD sedan.
+Dolby 109 (Dolby109) very quick with a tune
Erik Sturzebecher I think you're right. However don't forget the days of the early RS models, I think the American market was unfortunate to not get cars like the Sierra or Escort RS Cosworths. I've always liked Ford and BMW performance variants, but always had a soft spot for Ford.
This might be the most well made car show ever
Wow! Thanks for that. The cast and crew appreciate it.
really should appreciate everyone behind the show.
video quality,dialogues,......
everything was top notch.
saddest part is to wait another year for the show😭
Just behind Top Gear/The Grand Tour but still very amazing
+KaneDesigns nope this is better
Colds The comedy in this show can be a bit cringey
34:04 of course the Ford had a check engine light
Fix Or Repair Daily
More like Found On Road Dead.
Lol😂😂😂
Last year it was the Corvette. I like American cars but the Germans don't seem to have problems under testing.
And yet the Ford still came in second place lmao 😂
The melding if mind and metal that Motor Trend can express is just amazing. Thanks to the best UA-cam channel of all time.
Thank you Tyler!
It's deff top 5, very possibly top 3 even, but I dont know about #1. It would be in a 8 way 1st place tie for me lol.
jaguar showed up with a broken suspension arm and left with a Broken headlight. yikes
ya boy Oscar True
Nah, that's just typical british engineering.
Man O War oh really
Isn’t jaguar owned by Ford? Lol
Armando Gonzalez: Actually Ford sold Jag a long time ago. Tata motors owns them now.
Fantastic production. You guys knocked it out of the park yet again. Looking forward to the drag race!
Thanks, Matty.
You sound like a pirate Jonny (Depp) :)
McLaren 570s - Best Drivers car for 1% of the drivers.
Sweet!
Exactly what I'm saying
Who cares
+Quentin Freeman I do mate, what drivers can actually afford one out of the people u know ?? It's still a great car though
If price was a determining factor half these cars wouldn't even be contenders just because of their price.
you hatin but you broke'o
This is freaking amazing, thank you all for this.
You're welcome
I would buy just the engine from the 350 and sit around all day listening to it
That's one of the problems....This is the only engine Ford DOESN'T offer as a carte engine. They sell the block/heads separately but don't offer the crank and other parts. Also that parts price you could buy a GT500 engine.
Too me it sounds too raspy
LOL
There is no substitute
MrGhost370
Yes that was the 2015 finalist I spoke of!
MrGhost370
Last year they could have used the 911 GTS but chose the GT4.
MrGhost370
GT4 is a great purist Porsche but its simply is not as fast as a 911 GTS which is by design.
Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times
(2012) 991S 7:37
(2015) GT4 7:42
That's a about 5 sec slower than the 991S of 2012 not the new 991.2!
Thank you! A lot of work went into this year's production. We're glad you enjoyed it.
make a worlds greatest drag race!!!
My sentiments exactly. Bloody brilliant and to think this is free just blows my mind. What a world we live in!
I agree about the mustang
I agree about the mustang
Motor Trend Channel Team. Guys you've made my best moto week ever ! I've been chasing every finished part of each 12 track episode. Sometimes I had to stop a car, sneak to toilette or wake up earlier to not missed it but it was worth every minute. Great driving, camera job, comment. Real profesionals with passion. Thank You !!
Thank you for watching! We've got one more video for you tomorrow. Hope you enjoy it.
why there was no 488GTB? Isnt't is 2016? Or Ferrari does not let you compare it to other cars?
Yeah it's Ferrari, they probably didn't let MT test it... you know how they are.
love how the jag's left DRL goes at 32:29 when they talk about the Jag's reliability issues.
For the camaro to cost 45k and still make that list is insane. major props to Chevy and GM
Didn't just make the list...it got 4th place.
Wyatt Lawrence thinking about it, maintenance would probably also be way cheaper than the other cars including the 350r mustang
Maintenance wise you are probably going to be right up there with the GT350 minus brakes...
Wyatt Lawrence Chevy and Ford are killing it with performance per dollar. The mustang GT and Camaro SS are both fantastic card and can be found for only 30k which is insane
If they had the camaro zl1 it would make top 3
My favorite is Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R
Same
Same 👌
Yes
I like the older mustangs
@@theroaringbigblockchannel1294 lemme guess - 1969 Mustang right
Awesome, awesome production. Thank you Motortrend!!
It's so despicable how Ferrari refuses things like this
Caleb Hoo do you know why that is?
Priceless23 their ego is to big to handle being told their Stallion is slower and less enjoyable than a Cobra.
before their ego was insane they were humble and accepted it.
Crimson Vance yeah their cars were slower than the cobra back then and they don’t want the shame of losing now. Or even “back then” during 2015
Outstanding work fellas. Even if I was rooting for the Mustang. You both make a great duo and your passion for performance cars in particular.
Thanks, Jay!!!
hey sir Jonny i know that you love plus commends....but can i ask you to show at end when time grill shows...what tire cars uses...because that create a big arguments...because as randy says carrera s was on street tire(randy words 28.42)
Gotta love that GT350R!!!! The fact that it came in second against that competition shows how awesome of a car it really is. I need one!
Amazed that the halo Mustang is quicker than the ludicrously priced M4 GTS. Well done to Ford, better looking, V8 beats BMW'S finest.
The GT350R is def punching above its weight ($$$) 🏁
Just wait until the 6th gen GT500 ;)
i dont know what they did there but on the nürburgring the bmw is 4 seconds faster
Look at the tire size, specially front. this and 1LE have the same size front tires as the M4 has as REAR tires. See, BMW doesn't cheat with race spec tires. The Mclaren has 225s as front tires, lol.
how's it cheating to have wide front tires exactly?
I genuinely like every single car in this comparison, and they are all amazing for one reason or another, but for whatever reason, that Porsche REALLY pulls on my heartstrings, I love it!
Don't listen to the haters guys. You guys are great to watch, and have an uncanny rapport. Also, where is the Corvette???
The Z06 broke last year. Chevrolet probably thought the Camaro SS would do as well as the Z/28 did in 2014.
ya I was hoping to see the grand sport
they're energetic as hell...usually good but they can overdo it at times
#1stworldproblems
I feel like the mustang should have won. If you're talking about a drivers car I would think it's something that you would drive daily and not store in your garage and drive it once a month (McLaren). The mustang is much less expensive and it's a much more daily driver. You see them around a lot more because people like them and people can afford them. Unlike that $200,000 McLaren. Anyways just my opinion love both cars though! Great Video.
I you wanted, you could daily drive the McLaren. Especially if they tested a 650s with its crazy suspension. Besides, if it was based on best daily driver, the R8 or Porsche probably would have got it
The daily drivers winner would be the porsche. The Mustang would only win with budget advantage
I agree with you. The mustang is better Value for money, but this competition is about most fun, not best value
You really hate hate mustangs. Don't you?
its not about money its about how the car feels for the driver to have fun with it. the stang is amazingly good (coming from a camaro driver) but the mclaren feels more like the drivers prolonged arm or foot - a drivers car. the enthusiasts car. the fun machine
gt350r is winner for me!
for me too
@@klejmen8514 same as me
Viper: The Tractor

GTR: Godzilla
M4 GTS: The U-Boat
Camaro: Merica!
F-Type: The Super Villain

I take 911,but real winner here is Mustang Gt350r-the best handling muscle car!!!
thank you. And it doesn't cost 200k and I can race with 150k cars like the Acura and gtr.
Mustang gt500 and gt300 have always been good I love the sounds it makes
nope pretty sure best "handling" car goes to Camaro
I agree. Well done ford. That car looks, sounds and drives amazing. I love it and I'm more of a camaro fan.
TheIronGiant 22 Camaro is always better handling car than mustang, but it isn't better than gt-350r
Am I the only one who loves the F-Type SVR? It may have small problems and not be the fastest, but man it looks like great fun! The design is beautiful and V8 supercharged sound is music to my ears.
How can I get a job doing this😂😂
Sterling Franzwa omg right
right I love driving I'd be rich 😂
Go to college, major in journalism, become very good at writing, public speaking and video production. Get the best internships you can, become an expert on a subject you love, move to L.A. or New York where you can compete amongst the best in the business, work long hours until you stand out, network as much as possible, spend your weekends at work or working on indie projects to help your resume and remain relevant, apply for jobs over and over until someone decides you are the right match and keep working your ass off so that you are good enough to get the next job you want while fending off competitors vying for your current job. Repeat.
Super easy.
bravo

Good ol' American muscle showing up the majority of European premadonnas. What a time.
Xaionik I love the mustang but if this were made anywhere outside the USA the mustang wouldn’t have been that high
Only a Yank would say that
After top gear(not the last series) this is the best car show and the best presenters.
Thanks!!!
No corvette so findings were invalid... LOL
Enthused it wasn't out at the time bud
It's in this video..
Enthused mustang has a nicer interior and a nicer suspension and better handling
@@enthused7591 the GT350R MSRP IS 75K
Every year I look forward to Motor Trend Best Drive's Car... And as always, Motor Trend delivers. Great show!
Thanks!
- Where is the 'Porsche 911 R?' or the GT3 RS? Porsche 911 in third spot, I don't think so.
They race what the manufacturers bring 'em.
Based on the 911R video they just posted, I would speculate it would have gotten the win.
Exactly. I'm curious why it was not included. maybe because it was too exclusive, but isn;t that the case for the Viper as well? They didn't even mention the 911R. It would be my pick even though I have not even driven any of these cars.
Shelby GT350R is looking damn impressive! That sound too
porsche is still the winner here tbh, sending one of its relative "low end" products and still manage to be in the top 3
This was the best drivers car show motor trend's produced yet! Absolutely loved it!!
Thanks!
At 37:05 Johnny's face was like Jason put both hands on that freaking steering wheel or it is going to be the best and the last driver's car show!
The Shelby should have won due to its price! Who can afford a McLaren?
This is about the best driver's car, not best bang for the buck. If the best driver's car is $200,000 so be it, same as if it was $15,000.
yeah but still, would u have a SUPERCAR that's a little better in feeling? or something that represents...
wait for it
MURICAAA, FUCK YEAH!
Mclarens are cheap m8!
really? where can I buy a mclaren for $60k?
There are literally 100s of thousands of people in the US that can afford a McLaren. It's only $2400 a month for a lease on a typical-spec 570S. That may sound like a lot but someone with $120k in disposable income after expenses and taxes still has $10k/month in play money. A $200k/yr income doesn't even come near the 1% and is only considered upper middle class.
shelby gt350r by far amazing !
Do I smell a Worlds Greatest Drag Race coming up soon!?
Yep. And it smells like burning tires...
Iv seen allot of comments saying that the GT350R should be the winner as its the best value for money. But, this is NOT a value test, its the best drivers car test. The car which is the most enjoyable to drive is the 570S. So hence, it won MT's Best Drivers Car.
They aren't a value. If you really want a 350R you're gonna drop a 100 grand. The dealers are taking people to the cleaners.
Same with the 570s they're also marked up
For me although I don't disagree with the decision, I find a paddle shifter or any semi auto transmission a slight killer to being a drivers car. Like Randy Pobst, it needs 3 pedals to be fully involving. But maybe they did think of that and the 570S is docked marks there but it's other qualities keep it in 1st. I would love a Mclaren no doubt, but I would wish it were a stick shift.
Looking at performance per $ value alone, the Camaro 1LE wins for sure.
Owen Klaiss
It's certainly a bargain and although I feel the GT350(non R version) is the best bang for buck I wouldn't argue with you as I also think it's very close. If we consider the mark up on GT350's though, then it's not close, Camaro hands down. I also think that the Camaro having a stick is the best drivers car option and adds to the value. GT350R could also be considered a bargain since it's resale value is likely to be extremely high.
the viper should have won thats a true track car
But this is best drivers car, not best track car.
That being said I feel like having an automatic should be a minus here.
i was gonna dislike this video, but then u started revving the mustang gt350r and bmw m4. :p
really disappointed by the nissan gt-r times. :'(
Well Randy's a pro...so its about the best time its gonna get.
yeah you are right, being one of the best track cars there is it should have done better.
Need a new model for the gtr, it's about time.
Momin Fakhar
I think the Grand Sport w/Z07, GT350R, and especially Viper ACR are the best track cars.
Frankly the GT-R's gotten too expensive.
yeah true that. I have to say viper from being a fat block on wheels have came far and improved a lot. The times it pulled were unexpected and the gt 350r is a total beaut from exhaust sound to looks as well.
I love that they're talking about one thing being broken on the Jag and then they drive it off in the background and the driver side DRL isn't working
This is why mustangs are my favorite
NSX and GT350R will always be my top 2.
The NSX just won Road&Tracks Performance Car of the Year Award. It won 8 of 10 votes.
So the Shelby if you have a budget
The McLaren if you don't
Viper if you have huge balls.
Viper if you like to stare at it in the shop all day
+Ruri Gokou Did you not see the video? If you have huge anything it's gonna hurt to drive that car. It wasn't built for comfort.
Hypothetically of course. The ACR will crush huge balls, literally.
The viper is probably the easiest car to drive there at high speeds .... kinda just sucks at low speeds.
Man these guys have the best job ever!
The Mazda sponsorship is strong with this one...
I'm just glad the Miata isn't a contender lol
+Lawrence Lentini it's because if the car was a woman and pedal was the vagina, you'd be 16 year old virgin. All you know how to do is mash the pedal.
sneakernomics I could have worded that better. I love the Miata, my brother has one and I'm thinking about getting one, but they can't get through a video without plugging and completely over hyping it.
What did you expect? they always test the car in mazda's race track.
right. I like the "miata is the true race car". Guys please. Mazda is so off the target for me when looking for sports cars. There was a time mazda was cool, RX, MSpeed 6/3... but what now? They make economy cars that are quite honestly...boring.
Anyone else watching in 2023
Can we just agree the viper is the most badass by far?
I was waiting for the Motertrend on Demand ad at the end :( I thought 2017 Best Driver's Cars is already there! ;)
Hate to say it, like Jonny and Jason but I prefer to old school film style and I'm partial to Carlos. I'll still watch but I enjoy Evo's style much more.
Thank you.
In my opinion Carlos was kinda boring.
That gap between the time from the Viper to the second place is awesome.
Please everyone!! Write Top Gear and tell them these guys should be the hosts !!!
That was so cool what you guys did with the Viper and the picnic table 😃
Off topic, but Jason Cammisa reminds me of Jon Crier aka Alan from Two and a Half Men.
On topic, love you guy's show and keep up the good work!
Yeah he's a mix of Jon Cryer and Adam Sandler.
HOLY SHIT! You're right!! I kept trying to place his familiarity. You're a GENIUS!!!
You guys are so mean. Jason cammisa is way cooler than both those losers. Then again now i'm picturing a ducky that danced AND knew shit about cars. (:
DUDE!!!!!! i kept thinking in my head that fucker looked familiar just couldnt put my finger on it until i read ur post lolol
No question. The GT350 is the best bargain by far. Search hard and you can get it for MSRP.
If money weren't a factor I'd still take the 350R. Viper would be a close second.
that viper looks stunning
so I guess the Camaro will be your next buy...

Those breadsticks, though. :(
Next year:
Aston Martin DB11

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe.
Oh almost forgot the
Porsche 718 Boxster S
McLaren 570GT
Maybe 911 GT2?
That's a great fking list, not gonna happen though
Civic type R won't be there
Don't forget Lamborghini Huracan Superleggera
The Shelby is still only $50k....
LOL...maybe one that's been in an accident. The regular GT350 is even that cheap. Motor trend says $20k over sticker in the GT350R best driver's car video. The shelby cars are being sold for more than that over sticker. The cheapest GT350 I've seen was going for $80k and the Gt350R's are going for $110
I bought my 2017 GT350 in September at MSRP
JerseyMikeP the dealer near me has a GT350R for 67k
Jorge Pulido I would hope so... Chryslers are heavy as shit.
will there be the worlds greatest drag race?
Maybe
shure
there already is one on motortrendondemand.com
Tomorrow, probably.
The 570 will win.
The R8 isn't manual. The GT350R is great, but not elegant or refined in any way. The Aston Martin is the best driver's car.
Alfa 4C is turbo+autoclutch and is one of the funnest cars on a track - even if it sucks most everywhere else
shaft9000 I agree 100%! I absolutely love the 4c!
You've never driven the 570s, they have therefore your argument is invalid.
I agree about best drivers car should be manual, but not NA. I hate paddle shift, but love FI,whether it be turbo or SC.
Aight whatever mustang is my favorite ❤️
Audi R8 should be the winner... SUPERB all rounder.... And will still be great and RELIABLE in 10 years.. Unlike the Mac
Ok now lets see them all in a drag race :)
I look forward to that also, hopefully that video comes out sooner than later. If i remember last year it was a few days after the finale of the competition.
+chefdan87 Don't worry - it will come up tomorrow
Is it just me or has motor trend been sucking Mazdas Crank shaft real hard for the past few years?
RASX lol
Shows don't grow on trees in TVLand. There are things called sponsors who give the producers of a TV show money so that the producers can pay for things to make the show, like cameras and paychecks. In return for the money they give, the producers let the sponsors put their products in the show or run advertisements during the show. When they put products in a show, it is called "product placement." And that is how TVLand works, Johnny RASX.
there are many shittier car companies to praise. mazda makes cars that are great to drive for people who care about more than pushing a pedal down.
well you say that!! but you've also never driven a miata! or a mazda3 even for that matter!
AMG GT faster than the GT-R on the track by a second? I'd choose the R-8, 570S the AMG GT.
I love the shots where you get to see the chase/camera cars. Thats just as impressive as the car theyre filming
I totally agree with their choice. The mclaren is an awesome car
DolphinLover839 yea
Man I like the 350r and how it looks. Just an amazing car. Personally I'd take it over and 570s.
"oh yea, I'm smiling too man" he says with a blank face
Fantastic job guys on a fine tuned vid! Thanks for taking us along for the fun ride!!!
The way he introduced the mustang lmao
Damn, I was really hoping Carlos would pop up when they mentioned a third host.
Mustang gt350 should've won🤷🏻♂️💯
I didn't realize how amazing you guys are until I watched EVO COTY and Autocar's. Now I am back and I am gonna watch it again!! Well done guys
WOW..... My favourite is probably the Merclren
Good choice
Daniel Du Plooy mclaren*
Good choice but i will go for the viper acr
Love the Viper ACR, even though it's going out of production this year. Will you guys consider a Hellcat next year?
Best driver's car,..not most bang for the buck. Budget concerns force most of us air sucking mortals to purchase most bang for the buck. I love my $35K Mustang GT.
Best automotive channel EVER! Thanks for this.
