DP, the Honda gods are clearly happy and blessing you with bountiful TEC! Thats great power!!
Lo and the good Lord VTEC decreed, “thou shalt have all of the TEC!” 😂
Yes that is the original gas cap for the EF. You guys are making me miss mine so much.
Yes is the exact same as my 3rd gen prelude
Same here. Had a STD hatchback without a passenger side mirror in the early 2000's. I miss mine so much.
The EF is the clear winner here regardless of real world results. The feel, the noise, the sensation of speed is world class. Sometimes the simplest recipe makes the best dish.
peanut butter and jelly tastes better than fried chicken?!
Fried chicken is pretty simple to bud.
Those numbers are EXACTLY what I put up on my B16B when it was NA. Good to see the consistency on these golden era Honda motors!
I remember someone dynoing a stock Si DOHC engine and it got 131hp, quite good considering that was exactly what it made from factory over 30 years ago xD
16:09 I'm gutted, I was here for the driver's side splash shield
Sounded absolutely awesome on the Dyno!
I just went to the garage to look at my 1989 Si.........I gotta get the dough to resto this baby. Mine since day 1. (July 89) All original, NEVER molested...lol
You just made me yearn for the late 80's early 90's....These cars were a blast to drive. Yup, can't wait to get it back on the road.
Great series guys. Cheers
When you want to sell it contact me!!!
How is your gas cap different from this imposter? Or is this the oem cap?
Mine's OEM...@@chaseteter
@@chaseteter Looks stock to me.
On the EBay lip, consider adding 1/4” black rubber seal to mate-up the gaps on the upper left & right spots. Would tie in with the black bumper bar.
Im a 39 year old man and ever since i could drive this has been one of my dream cars. What a great freakin build guys!!! Love it!!
Is not good idea use and electric pump to pump gas 😅
Hey guys, I love that you used a transfer pump to drain the tank lol but EF’s have a drain plug on the bottom of the tank so you can empty it without a pump. Take a peek under there you’ll see it on the corner of the tank. ❤
Lol I said the same thing. Old cars were designed to be worked on! Even the block has coolant drain plugs so you dont spill any coolant removing it!
As a Hamilton guy in his late 30’s. Seeing builds like this really is something special🙌🏻…. I love the support for the local guys (Dylan being a long-time friend of mine). And I’m building an EF myself. So for me, this is almost “sentimental” lol…. Keep up the good work guys🙌🏻👍🏻
only thing is most Hamilton boys were modifying, Sunfires, Cavaliers and other werid cars for the most part lol
Love this series as a 20 year CRX owner and connoisseur of eg hatches. Watching it for a EF veteran is fun because you guys obviously know your stuff and are using modern tech to upgrade the car so thanks for doing that research. It was informative!
Fantastic build guys… As a 45 year old I’ve had my fair share of Hondas back in the late 90s, early 2000s (never an EF) but my 1st was an EF8 CRX, then a Del Sol SiR, then an EK9 with that superb B16B, then an EG6 SiR-S, then a BB8 Motegi 5th Gen Prelude and an ATR in the mix too… only the last 2 were UK cars!
I’ll never get over how good the Vtec sounds on cross over on all of them, but the EK9 & EG6 were the best, rawest sounding etc… I ran both with the AEM V2 CAI too… so glad to see they’re still made…
Really took me down memory lane this build, cheers 👍🏼👌🏼
My first Honda was a Red Honda Kick and Go, but my second Honda was an old EF. Its the little things that makes life great.
The noises made from the pulls at 26:30 are glorious. Signature Honda. Well done!
The EF looks super fresh n clean. Love it. It stands out without being obnoxious.
That´s why it stands out xD
Time for Car-toons!
Car-tunes!
My EF had that same gas cap. Wish I'd never gotten rid of my '89 Si. Love watching the build series!
I'm always impressed by the fine attention to detail with restoring such as the DOHC sticker and the hatch key gasket. This episode really showed how good the EF can look. For me, removing the purple tint would show off the nice blue interior, and I noticed the center light in the rear has a faded CIVIC decal. I know you can get those if it interests you, I saw CRX Seth source a decal on one of his CRX projects.
Yeah there are some companies making replacement stickers, I ordered some for my CRX and they were very good quality, still perfect after many years
It’s funny, back in the ‘00’s when I first got into Hondas I wasn’t a fan of EF’s at all but the farther along time goes the more I adore them.
CRX Seth is no longer doing the CIVIC decal. Just the CRX and VTEC decals.
Agreed, keen to see it without the purple tint. I expect it'd really freshen up the look.
Here to say some bronze tint would really give it that JDM look vs old Az purple.
Cap is legit. My 85 and 86 CRX have the same caps. All the revs!
My 89 CRX has it too
My 90 sedan same cap also
My '85 and '88 CRX Si's had the same cap, as did my Brother's '90 3dr Si.
Very nice build! Confirming that’s an OEM gas cap
That's a nice looking EF, that purple window tint really needs to go away though.
Pure inspiration once again guys. Great job.
Try ceramic coating to restore the trim. Seen Alex Palmieri do it on his channel & it looks awesome. I'm now OCD that Pete's OCD didn't kick in @ 5:58 when refitting the taillight. Clean it up man! ❤
Loving this build series so far! I'll always have love for the B-series!
so I must say, this speed Academy video is by far my favourite video you guys have ever produced! The third GEN Prelude seat in the driver seat is pretty cool. As far as the gas tank cap and door moldings, those are actually OEM, except for Jdm EF the door side mouldings are different in that they are very thin to match the bumpers. Love the mention of a Jdm front end too! I’m so impressed with how well the B16b did… although after owning my Dc2 type r, it was one of the best built engines I’ve ever had after owning many. Honda truly puts extra care in on their specialty engines!
Although I don’t own my EF anymore and I’m an S2 guy now my F20C that is completely torquelsss always reminds me of where I started in a B16 EF hatch, you guys adding the lip and the dual overhead cam VTEC stickers was honestly a joy to watch. Also want to add that if you guys are ever interested, you can put a Crx round bezel Dash into the EF and the dash will line up perfectly with the EF door panels, look forward to more episodes on this car!
Man that SIR front end would be amazing!
Wonderful build. I had 90 Civic Si that I bought new here in AZ and wish I still had it. Following comments all taste based (just my wish list): I have 90 Civic Si rear seat which would look good in yours to have all seats black in color. CRX or Si front seats would also look great but hard to find. Momo leather shift knob would be nice addition to interior as well as black momo logo. HKS style tips to mimic HKS exhaust that was offered in the 90s would be cool. Black valve covers, black plug wires, and black battery boot cap, and lose the AEM sticker. Alpine stereo from that time, Rockford fosgate punch 45 amp or Alpine amps from the time, and Hafler speakers. New tint. White DP Enduro rims.
CRX Si seats were much lower than the 3dr Si seats. I had a black '88 CRX Si and my Brother had a matching black '90 3dr Si. Seats looked the identical but the CRX Si seats were about 3/4" lower. It was a very noticeable difference when seated. Integra seats were also lower than Civic 3dr seats.
After my Brother died I put the twin tipped HKS "Sports" exhaust you mentioned on his '90 3dr Si. It looked totally stock and was very quiet with his JDM Integra XSi B16a swap. He did the swap in '00 and I found the car for him in '98
I love this build. This is THE Honda I would want. EF hatch, B16B, good suspension. Perfect!
Honestly, I would rather have a B18C5 than a B16B. More HP and TQ from the same footprint for little more cash.
Man I love this thing! This episode felt like you let some segments breathe a little more and was an enjoyable watch. Well done👏👏
I enjoy the DP detailing sessions 🤙
if I'm not mistaking, EFs have a 17mm drain plug on the right side of the gas tank by the RLCA.. either way a job done is a job complete.. looks amazing reminds me of my old EF
The montage at 19:57 brought tears to my eyes. Mine was an 1990 Si, but I miss it every day. I'd want you guys to do all of the swaps and customizations if I still had it, though!
Up recently driving a ep3 i was never interested in these but I do love these engine's. I have a modded c16xe cams inlet ect at 150 hp these are impressive numbers! Especially for a 1600
Wow! You guys really knocked it out of the park with this! Keeping it on the road.
My pops used to have 91 Civic Si Hatchback we loved that car… we miss it 🥲
I’m absolutely loving this series! Glad we could be apart of it!
My Favorite shift knobs are still from the RSX and S2000 or EP3. They were hella nice that era. Mugen also has a couple billet shift knobs that feel super well sized and weighted.
My brother had a B16B EK and it did sound amazing...but I had a turbo D16 EF and it wasn't even a contest. The right size turbo just makes an old Honda so much better.
Can't wait to see the B18B numbers, I'd expect 300+ if your tuner knows they aren't made of glass and you have a 4bar MAP sensor.
These episodes keep me going with my turbo b series Ef hatch. Had her for quite some time now, just got in my Ef9 headlights from Japan the other day.
It never disappoints when you guys & Nick put a Honda on the dyno. This thing sings!
Couldn't agree more. Stock B series power is best power. Did the SiR II swap in my previous EG hatch and did similar mods but left the OEM ecu tune. What a beast.
Love this build. Feeling nostalgic for my EF.
It would be cool to see a track comparison with this ef vs the type r or gr corolla
Another excellent video speed academy.. awesome job !!! Love y’all
I kinda want an EF now. Takes me back to High School days.
I love this build. Keep up the great work boys!!
Great video! Great power the engine putting out can’t wait to see it on the track! Keep up the great videos
You guys always have such attention to detail... But not cleaning under the tailights while replacing the gasket hurt my ocd haha. Love the builds!
This. Proper got to me. Lol
Great build so far guys. I had the same gas cap on my CR-X
D series vs B series ecu's are the same size guys......you converted the car to obd1 and put a different sized ecu in....had nothing to do with d vs b.....it is obd ZERO vs obd 1 ecu difference. p30 and jdm p72 are the only b ecu's that are smaller
Thanks good to know!
Kijk hoe je loopt te kutten, u heeft geen verstand van honda
Obd0 is made up. It's not a real thing. Honda term only. It's just obd
I had a 1989 CRX DX that had a D15B2 with that dual point fuel injection crap with an auto, so I swapped in a JDM D15B VTEC with a JDM Del Sol Si LSD trans and I also converted it to OBD-1 with a P28 ECU that I socketed and chipped with a basemap from Xenocron. I put a cold air intake, a 1320 header, and a full 2.5" exhaust and it pulled hard for a single cam. I also installed a Bisimoto cam in it and I loved it. I eventually put an eBay turbo kit on it and that car was unstoppable once it was tuned on Crome at 12 psi.
@@Brock_Landers loved hearing about the good ole days of Honda. I ran Crome in a couple of my cars as well on turbo d series setups.
I’ve ran Honda for years now but Crome was great for what it was back in the day.
Cerakote trim wipe will so wonders on those window trim
16:10
*_That Canadian Soorry 😆_*
Thank you for that trim paint recommendation!
I ❤ how the EF turned out, can’t wait to see how the EG will end up….but I already know they will both be awesome cars to see and drive🙏🏻
Guys, after being one of the biggest Honda fans for the majority of my adult life, and given the fact that I have built quite a few B18B1 engines with a turbocharger, I will tell you that I performed a factory rebuild on a B18B1 (NPR gapped rings, Cometic MLS head gasket, ACL Race bearings on rods and mains with ARP main studs after a line hone), ARP head studs, BC Stage 2 Turbo cams, dual valve springs with titanium retainers, a Skunk2 street intake manifold with a 70mm throttle body, Siemens Deka 660cc injectors, a Turbonetics 60 trim turbo, a Walbro 350 LPH fuel pump, 93 octane, and it made 412 whp at 15 psi. I would absolutely agree that the EF will be alot of fun on a road course, and it would make easy work of some cars on the street, but it could never hold a candle to a well-built turbocharged B18B1 in an EG hatch. I had a 1997 EJ8 coupe and even with the cheapest of eBay turbo kits (tuned on Crome of course by the best street tuner I know), with a D15B block and a D16Z6 head it would EAT full bolt on WRXs and Cobb modified Mazdaspeed 3s on the strip. I swapped in a bone stock 250k mile B18B1 and put the same turbo kit on it (that I pieced together out of eBay parts and junkyard parts), it would kill modified SRT4s easily. Then I went with a fully sleeved and forged internal LSVTEC and it made 709 whp at 34 psi. It became less fun at that point on the street...
Yeeeeeees! Thats the only wheel that belongs in any old honda. 👌 good taste Dave!
I have the same front lip on mine. I trimed down the middle (like the grill area) aloud the lip to sit more flush to the bumper . Also dremeled the inside of the lip smooth and put the same rubber edging across the top of the lip and last i cut the ends off
That car is so damn perfect! Seriously amazing work.
I really do love this car. Well done guys
I remember trowing a h2b in my eg coupe and making 238whp stock all motor jdm h23a blue top back when it was considered “the mystery motor” I took a chance when no one really knew what they made and how reliable they were and everyone was impressed myself included, k swaps were still pretty new but I remember beating every kswaped Honda I raced, and all I had was 70mm throttle body, a cheap intake, cheap eBay header that I put a 3 inch collector on and a 3 inch exhaust, ran a fresh rebuilt gsr trans with carbon synchros and lsd and honestly that was the nicest shifting bseries trans iv ever driven, the gears went in effortlessly and I was flat foot shifting it whenever I raced it and never gave me a single grind or missed gear, i just think the whole combo was perfect…ran 11.6 all motor at the 1/4 mile track in a eg coupe with 23inch slicks, with power locks power windows, had radio and door speakers, only thing taken out was the rear seats and passenger seats but only for track days
That is the original gas cap. I actually had to go out and look on mine. I've had it since 1995 I've only had the gas cap off a million times and I couldn't remember. The car looks good
What a great Episode! Looking forward to hearing this rip on the track
Yes that gas cap is OEM to that body style of honda both my 90 and 91 crx have that exact same cap
My buddy had a 98 prelude, e/h/I and man it should very similar, really can't beat it!
Glad you will try a different lip. The stock Si lip works well for a car without sideskirts.
The wings west RS bumper is also a period correct move, but i don't think thats up your alley.
Sometimes, less is more though
That EF is simply amazing!
💯 Momo Monte Carlo is the wheel we all bought back then (Need a RAZO shift knob and pedals, though). Well done with the details. 🔥
love the steering wheel setup!
i love this series the ef turned out so nice ❤️❤️
Great episode. Hope to run into you guys one of these days this summer
wow healthy engine that's spot on in warm weather it's probably making 175-178hp so that as perfect as it's going to get.
Best auto channel on UA-cam
This has been a great series 👏
I have a 1989 CRX europe Si with the 131hp DOHC engine, it is my first and only car x3
I rarely drive it in the finnish winter, but I have studded winter tires on it currently that make it look like an offroad buggy with that much tread on such a small car xD
absolutely love this EF!
Awesome numbers for the little 1.6. Forget the ebay lips and make a nice front splitter
Such a sweet ride guys
Love this build
Nice interior!
IMO the period correct CAI would be the Iceman blue air intake. One of my friends had a 91 CRX Si with that intake and I remember the ads in the tuner magazines in the late 90s and early 00s.
That thing looks incredible, you guys did an amazing job with it. But now that the white has been refreshed, those old tired purple tints are begging to be replaced with some fresh 35% black.
The steering wheel with the blue stitches and blue button 🫡
What a beautiful car and it just sounds soo amazing!
I’m a Honda nerd and I love these Honda episodes with clean builds.
B series Honda engines sound so good. Love it!
I like the front lip, I think if you add some matching side skirts it would really bring it together in my opinion. Nice ride!
Sounds so late 90. Loving it.
Also god damn the EF looks great! The rpf1 are perfect!
Looks good, sounds good, a dream ef build tbqh.
I have an EG9 clocking 380k km, B16A2 running heatlhy to this day :D
Thanks for soe B series loveeee
I always listen to dialogues at 1.5* playback speed, but never the car sounds. Was worth it again 🙂
Just finished my b16a swap yesterday on my ek hatch let’s goooooo
That does sound really good.
Man, that's more than double the HP to the wheels than my '89 CRX DX made to the crank! Had the CRX from mid 96 to Feb 2000 when I got a brand new 2000 Civic Si with that DOHC B16. Would've loved that engine in the CRX!
Fluidampr fellas! You will love it.
I second this!
Nice build!! It'd be nice to also see an episode EF vs DC.
What a beauty this one turned out to be. Minus the front lip. Please find a factory lip aahaha. Cant wait for the track video.
Back in the mid 2005 a buddy had CRX with a B16 swap, that thing ripped. It would spin those skinny tires on 1st, 2nd and 3rd😂😂😂. You cant go wrong, small car with a nice NA angry 4 cylinder😂😂.
Sweet job on that Honda guys. That blue interior is nice too. Maybe try and get a matching blue set of race seats instead of the black ones.
Momo Monte Carlo is ALWAYS the answer!
