  • In 1992, a young mother was gunned down in front of her children and police were left baffled. The crime seemed unmotivated and random. But family members hinted that the victim, who had been married to a prominent attorney, harboured a dark secret that may have led to her death. Agents untangled an intricate web of money, drugs and murder.
Real FBI cases are recounted through reenactments and interviews, due to the sensitive nature of the show, viewer discretion is advised.

Looking up the Tokars boys, it's rather sad. Mike, Sara's 4-year-old, passed away in April 2020 from a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung). Apparently, he tried to get on with his life and wanted to be a writer. He wrote for many publications, but never found a stable publisher. He loved to write. He attributed his great outlook on life to his six aunts (Sara's sisters) who helped raise him, and he even wrote a piece about them. But Mike suffered from depression. Right before he passed, Mike moved to California to get a fresh start, but the covid pandemic shutdown was happening, and since one of his aunts had just undergone chemotherapy and was quarantined, Mike couldn't stay with her. Mike was living in his car--and along with chain-smoking and gaining a considerable amount of weight, he developed blood clots behind his knees. One broke free. Ricky is an EMT.
As a footnote, the scumbag who murdered his wife died in prison in May 2020. Apparently, he suffered from a neuro-muscular disease and had been confined to a wheelchair for 10 years.

Fred Tokars, the Atlanta lawyer who masterminded the murder of his wife, Sara, in 1992 has died in prison. ( Updated May 2020) Tokars had been a marked man behind bars, having testified in murder trials against a couple of fellow prisoners. But he died of natural causes over the weekend in a prison hospital in Pennsylvania having been suffering a fever for several days, said his attorney, Jerry Froelich.
Tokars, 67, had suffered from a host of health issues, including a neurological disease that had destroyed his body.
“He hadn’t walked in 10 years,” Froelich said.
He had been held in secret custody and the federal prison system didn’t even list him, nor would discuss if he was still a prisoner when the AJC asked about him over the years.
Tokars was convicted on federal racketeering charges in 1994 and handed a sentence of life without parole. He was tried years later by Cobb County prosecutors on the murder charges but a jury did not give him the death penalty.
Sara was kidnapped along with her young sons from their East Marietta home after returning from a family Thanksgiving trip to Florida. The gunman, Curtis Rower, killed her with a point blank shotgun blast to the head in front of sons Ricky, 6, and Mike, 4.
Mike died last month, having been suffering from depression for years.
The ghastly crime shocked the community as Fred Tokars went from grieving husband to suspect to convicted killer.
Tokars was a former prosecutor who became a self-promoting private lawyer who later worked with drug dealers, helping them hide their ill-gotten gains in nightclubs. When his wife Sara threatened to disclose his activities, a plot for her murder was hatched.
Tokars enlisted the help of a fledgling businessman and sometime con artist, Eddie Lawrence, to set up the hit.
“I called Tokars evil in my closing argument and he was,” said former Assistant U.S. Attorney Buddy Parker, who prosecuted the federal case. “I don’t think there’s any way you can think otherwise having the mother of your sons killed in front of them. I don’t know if he ever changed.”
Froelich had tried to get a reduced sentence for Tokars for his testimony in murder cases against a white supremacist drug dealer who had killed witnesses and another prisoner who had killed his business partner.
“I’m not condoning what (Tokars) did, but he deserved consideration,” Froelich said Wednesday. But, he added, Tokars was too infamous for that to happen.
Joni Ambrusko, one of Sara’s sisters said, “He should have died in the electric chair 28 years ago. The pain and suffering that he caused those little boys and our family was and continues to be immeasurable.”

What has become of these poor children, to go on living with the thought of a murdered mother and a murderous father? How come can one go through such an ordeal and lead a normal life? This man was a monster whose only interests were money and a career of prestige. He did love neither his wife nor his children and didn't deserve the love and trust they initially gave him. I also think of the victim's parents and her family. I pray they could find relief and take good care of the unfortunate children. Such stories are the saddest one can imagine.

First time when Tokar’s being interviewed by the cops, he brings his attorney with him. Brilliant. That was the reddest flag. Just because the husband of the victim is a natural suspect, doesn’t mean he has to get his lawyer. Unless he’s got something to hide. He sure did!

    • @nowandaround312
      @nowandaround312 3 роки тому +5

You're completely wrong about a lawyer being a red flag in all situations. Innocent people who are under police suspicion need lawyers just as much as guilty people. Cops make mistakes that result in innocent people going to prison, there are even people who have been murdered via the death penalty for crimes they didn't commit, and there are also dirty cops who knowingly pin crimes on innocent people.

    • @subrotochatterjee5788

I’m not questioning the right of a suspect to get representation from his lawyer. SPECIFICALLY, I’m talking about Mr. Tokar’s behaviour as an individual, a husband and as a lawyer himself during the initial phase of the case. True, he was a natural suspect, and has a right to a lawyer. And yes, there have been some horrendous cases where many innocents have been charged guilty and faced the death sentence. To me, his behaviour showed up as a red flag. I don’t question his right to get represented by his lawyer. I question the way he went about it. Ah yes. Opinions will differ.

@@robbiedellorosambitanjd.447 Its about the context we operate upon. The American gun and violence context will give a different reading to cop behaviour (ample evidence over the years) and say, a European context. Sneaky cops are humans. So you’ll find sneaky cops’ behaviour consistent with universal behaviour of sneakiness. One needs to be cautious therefore, in addressing specific behaviour, like I did for Mr. Tokar. Quite something like your FBI profiler does in his line of work.
