The HORRORS of My Life in the Shiny Happy People

- Jennifer Cunha had to smile throughout her childhood to avoid punishment. So, she smiled and smiled. This is the story of what was going on inside her mind, during her life amid the Duggars, the Shiny Happy People and the IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles). She shows us how the Shiny Happy People cult was way worse than doc shows (insider speaks out), after she was hand selected by cult leader.

Did you know about the IBLP? Think the reality is worse than the documentary of Shiny Happy People? Hit like above, and let me know below.
Yes, I've heard a lot about them before the documentary.
Yay for taking up my suggestion. Well, I will take credit for it anyway. :D :D :D
Only heard of them from the documentary. Apparently the original leader lives outside of Chicago. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and hadn't heard of this group.
I missed the live😕
I WAS in the the IBLP cult but not to the extreme that your guest was. It turned my already narcissistic ex husband into a sociopathic narcissist. The principles of the cult empower narcissists! We went to two of the IBLP Seminars and as homeschooling family purchased thousands of dollars of their curriculum. I was appalled by the content and wouldn’t use it, against my ex husband’s wishes. Long story short I got myself and my children out and divorced that POS.Out almost 19 years now. Kids all grown and doing well. Their father has little interaction with them. His loss!!! This cult is as horrific as it sounds!!!!
I wonder if UA-cam/Google realise that their policy of preventing these topics being talked about openly is actually helping the abusers keep their behaviours hidden?
Of course they do
But they ARE being talked about openly.
They don't care it fits a certain narrative that protect's them
They should be talked about, but also w open dialogue . Obviously there are severe, pervasive, awful problems w IBLP , bc men are making up their own “religion/ cult”. , but of course there are some positive aspects that can be bashed in the prefixes. Courtship is or CAN BE. A very sound way for young couples to approach marriage, as is Traditional. Divine law in marriage . But again, there is a proper way to do it and nen must know HOW TO LEAD. Done properly , the man would never abuse a wife and is responsible for every task, ultimately. He is devoted to God and looking out for his family. She just disses this from the start, and I do understand that this was as per her experiences and from what she witnessed . Applied wrongly it’s a recipe for dysfunctional abuse and disaster
Likewise . Demons ARE real but that can be grossly misapplied , as well A rather widespread criticism I have read is that the criticism was too broad. But again not in any way undermining or negating this woman’s experiences.
Its extremely difficult to listen to when she seems on the verge of bursting into tears. Poor woman
She's bugs.
That poor woman's trauma is so evident with the pain in her voice and expression. I so hope she heals and recovers ASAP. I think these cults are astounding and so controlling of women and children......very patriarchal and archaic
Looking at cults/religions in general it’s all about men controlling women and as a result children too.
Where genuine power is involved, depravity lurks in the shadows. No exceptions.
Can you please explain this further?
100%.
The issue with sex abuse is churches/organizations is always worse in more orthodox systems. There is zero in the teachings that would make this ok as a behavior. What allows this to go on for years is a power structure where the “leaders” can’t be questioned or challenged.
Any situation where this is the case abuses or some kind will be found.
You are SO right and we see this more everyday. Why are these powerful people- everywhere- pedophiles and abusers, and just plain evil? I can never understand why. If I was powerful and had tons of money, I would feel that I could do a great lot of good in this world, for the poor, the homeless, etc. Why are power and evil synonymous?
@@elizabethgulley7044
Who would be most attracted to power? So much so they wouldn’t even mind the work and responsibilities that come with power?
Narcissists and sociopaths.
Now, add in positions that allow this person to flex their power and not be questioned?
Police
Teachers
Politics
Religion
Medicine
Show biz…..
You’ll always find more of these people in those professions.
Indeed so.
Love and concern for Jen as she continues to recover from the cult she was trapped in.
Very Brave
I know of a 15 year old girl who they think she took her life because she’d been morally compromised by a 30 year old man and her family found out.. the unintended consequences of pushing the purity issue is definitely damaging
Misogyny is always most pronounced in extreme religious cults. Men are much benefitted by these cults.
Yeah, but even the most moderate religion almost always is a misogynistic boy's club.
Yes, the nonconsentual exploitation and abuse is horrific
I went to an IBLP seminar at about 18 in the 70s. After the week of seminars, I walks out thinking there was no way I could do this. I studied the Bible for myself and made my own decisions.
Thank you for your work with animals. We need so much more compassion in this world!
Well said!! I completely agree! 💯👏👏
The icing on the cake is these cults are tax exempt!
Shes talking about Cellular Memory . Trauma is stored in our cells and thats why certain events , smells pictures , places cause Triggers .those reactions are our bodys way of telling us we need to address these issues .
For me ,Forgiveness of Everyone and Everything especially myself first was what liberated me from my trauma's. I didn't forgive to absolve others of guilt but to let go of the toxic emotions that effected my health . I did it for me , letting go of all that baggage made me feel lighter . It actually healed my anxiety as well . Forgiveness Truly is the most loving thing you can do for yourself and when you love yourself youre ready to Love others . Theres no future in your past and if you're stuck there you can Not go forward
I really relate to what you say 😊
Glad you found a way to make things better 👍
Yes! Forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself. The other person may benefit, but you are the one who is truly free. I forgave my father and it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders!
It helps to acknowledge what the harm is they’ve done first tho. I jumped that part, then carried on letting others abuse me. Acknowledge and move on
@@lilasfaves7846that is the most profound thing most people unfortunately forget
I know about the IBLP too well sometimes. I've followed the Duggar family for many years now and how their squeaky image has become tarnished because of the eldest son. There is so much abuse and hierarchy in this organization. It reminds me of "The Handmaid's Tale" which is scary in and of itself. My heart goes out to those involved and my prayers are with those who leave. It's not easy.
Betrayal of trust is devastating
With every word it sounds like she is going to burst into tears. I'm happy for her she is out.
I saw the documentary on Prime, and this was a great interview. I am so glad she got to go to College. As so many women don't due the IBLP ideology. So brave speaking out.
Thank you
@@jenc2394 Education is important definitely. Keep going with all you do xx
@@jenc2394absolutely. I can’t remember which psychologist it was, but one of the big ones said that if you are deprived of education, you cannot understand irony. And cults are extremely ironic.
How do we educate men to satisfy their sexual urges without traumatizing women and children?
So much this ❤
One would think they wouldn’t need to be educated on such. They do have brains in their male heads.
Go within or go without
Stop teaching that masterbation is wrong, teach about consent from an early age and start properly prosecuting abusers and rapists.
I was raised the Jehovah Witnesses and so much of what this women says is so much a like ..
Oh Andrew! I follow Jennifer's research and she mentions her upbringing from time to time. This will be so interesting, she is an amazing woman
It took me years to get over getting sick just before Christmas every year, because as a child I was told I was naughty and bad all the time and that I was actually going to get a gift I would feel nauseous all day and cry at night. I was so relieved after it was over, and Easter sermons we were told how bad we were... repeatedly.....
Making a young young girl feel horrible about herself for wearing a tshirt and blaming her for making men stumble...Holy shit! How horrible is that. I've heard it time after time and isn't any less impactful every time I hear it because it is so horrible!!
Amazing how breasts are equated with the devil🤦♀️
The sincerity of this young woman. When she was taking about first date being obviously who you were supposed to marry-yeah it took about 6 weeks of dating as a Jw before the elders told me to make a decision. I wish I could give her a big hug!
It teaches women they ate at fault but no mention of men with lustful eyes
Exactly! It’s so sickening.
Agree. People have to keep speaking out against it when they witness it!
Any religion/cult that punishes women for the lustful predation from men is sick.
Thankyou. Your courage in speaking out will inspire others to break free. The aftermath foundation help people from cults restart. Such a great organisation to support. Xx
I'm recovering from my baptist church too. I also have scrupulosity too. Can't relax, have fun, and feel contented.
Thinking of you ❤ trauma hypnosis helped me so much.
@jenc2394 thanks for the feedback!
did it cost and how long did it take?
@jdrichardson39 my trauma hypnotist worked for 4-5 hours per session to work through one major thing at a time. I saw her about once a month for a few months, then quarterly, then a couple times a year... now I'm fine :) she was $160/ session and does tele-visits if needed. I started major trauma healing from the start.
Great show Andrew , love your work . Thank you .
Excellent interview, Andrew! I am a Christian (United Church of Christ) and heavily condemn these "Christian" cults.
The church you speak of has its demons too.
Pull back the veil, you'll be stunned
I'm pretty sure United Church of Christ is considered a cult
😂😂Our cult is better than the other cult 😅😅👋👋😂
@casper8577
No, it's not. That's laughable. They don't hide anything they do. They don't shun people. They don't abuse people. Check out the definition of a cult.
@@JS-vs3hd
Real religions are not cults. Look up the definition of a cult.
Obviously a women can take a lot of measures to reduce the risk that she will be raped but no matter the circumstances the responsibility is always on the rapist. The perpetrators are always fundamentally at fault irrespective of the behaviours of the victim
Measures taken to reduce the chance of getting raped don't even work, women get attacked in broad daylight, wearing winter coats, getting on public transport, when they're elderly or in their own homes. It's always the fault and responsibility of the rapist.
Can we though? The men most likely to rape us are our husbands, boyfriends, and male relatives. Not some stranger in a dark alleyway. How exactly are we supposed to reduce the risk we will be raped by the men we love and trust most in the world and who (we think) love us?
Off topic, but just HAVE to say that you are an EXCELLENT reporter/youtuber.. I always learn very much, from the topic itself, or something you add from your own knowledge/experience !!! Have a great day. Hugs from me in Oslo !!!!!!
I couldn't agree more! :) :)
I remember Margaret Attwood talking about the Handmaid’s Tale and saying that these things happen in real life. Just like Val McDiarmid said about the crime stories. Reality is much worse than anything in fiction
I’m glad I grew up in a non denominational church that believes it’s all about Jesus and helping others. There are good churches and not all are crazy and controlling.
Exactly. I am a member of I think it is non demonization. Church Unlimited. The pastor is awesome. He made me realize that what my stepmother stated was false. What more can Jesus Do. He died on the cross. And Jesus went out to the people never preached in a temple. She assumes that I am going to he'll. Regardless that I went and asked for forgiveness and got saved and baptized. She is currently living with her sister. She had finally retired and moved in with her friends, they kicked her out. I am so glad they did. My nephew is learning now how she is
Same here, it’s horrible when people twist god’s word for there own narratives
Thank you for sharing your story, Jennifer
😢 oh my I almost teared up watching all her pain coming out. I wish I could tell her she is ok and the worst is behind her.
Thank you for speaking through the pain and exposing the extreme toxicity of this cult.
Thank you for speaking out, it will help others. I'm sorry this happened to you. You did nothing to deserve it. Btw, the Dali Lama has been accused of abuse too. It can happen in any kind of group. I wish you much healing and peace!❤
Thank you! I'm hopeful others can get out too. Yes, I realized after I said Dali Lama I remembered about the recent allegations and maybe that was a bad example!
@@jenc2394 abusers come from all walks of life. I'm very glad you survived!
I never heard of this cult, but I've also never seen or heard of a higher level of catch-22 technique. I can't imagine a worse method for confusing and guilting children. This makes me shudder.
Scientology cult does the same thing
The pain I can hear in this wonderful woman's voice, as she talks about not only her own pain, but that of the other women and children suffering under this tyrannical regime, it just breaks my heart.
Hi, dear Andrew, have you noticed, how many parents that are in cults do teach their children at home? That sounds dangerous (no socialization, no other informations, perspectives, ideas...)...pure isolation :(
That can often be true. But there are other parents who home school to protect their children from the broader cult of state education and its inherent brainwashing. Wise home schooling environments also provide sufficient peer exposure.
The isolation is the point of their decision to homeschool. If you teach your kids the Earth is 6000 years old, when your kids go to school they'll find out it's not true. Kind of hard to indoctrinate when you allow alternate views.
Edit: I'm only referring to the Christian fundamentalist homeschooling. My SiL home schools for secular reasons, and her kids are in a bunch of clubs so they can socialize with other kids.
@donna Murphy You don't know what you're talking about.
@@seanmclaren8829I feel for her and what she has endured.
I agree. Government is it's own mind controlling cult with all its slogans and programming.
They don’t want them out in the norms. It would cause problems when they notice the freedoms other children have.
That documentary was put together perfectly. I don't have Amazon Prime. I'm vacationing in Washington for the summer to beat the Arizona heat. Im house hopping all over the state visiting family and friends. Each new house I go to I ask if they have Amazon Prime. I've been dying to see Shinny Happy People. I've watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss anything. Most of the information I already knew. But the context of how well it was put together made it much more personal, pulled at my heart. It makes a person want to help take this cult apart. It seems to me that at the very least laws need to be in place to protect the children of these Cults. The easiest problem to fix would be the home schooling. Every state I've lived in had a criteria set up. The mother or adult that's teaching must pass a test to qualify them to teach. Secondly if you are deciding to home school your children you have to follow the subject guide for each grade in all subjects. Those children might choose not to go on to college and that's fine. However should they want to further their education they can't. They aren't being taught very minimal basics of what it takes for a highschool graduate. It's sick and appalling what the women and children have to endure to feed their men's egos!!!
If there wasn’t the option of homeschooling, a lot of children could be saved from abusive and neglectful homes…
@@soude85yeah, but at the same time homeschooling is a great alternative to public schools because of the subject matter being taught and the indoctrinate that's going on now. Kids are being passed even when they're unable to read and write at their grade level only because they don't want to deal with them or to keep the schools statistics up. They also don't learn any type of life skills.
A lot of times children that are being abused are kept out of school one way or another and they fly through the cracks.
How many insane cults do we actually have..? 😮
How many religions are there?? That's how many.
Amish, jws, Mormons, catholic... I'm sure u get my point 😂. But there is nothing wrong with faith, but how u use it. Most have not idea about being spiritually connected

I feel like every video you make in interviewing ppl has been very informative. A lot of it has been eye-opening and heartbreaking. But it shows what is happening in the world today, and you'd never know or suspect the ppl who have been affected by such trauma.
Been noticing churches are changing their names. The church of God is now church of life.
Interesting point.
I live in a small town now. Woodlands. There's a few local churches. I've noticed they modified the names also over the last ten years or so.
Our Lady of Lourdes was changed to Rancocas Spiritual Worship.
Yes - the Baptists have been particularly busy changing their church names to “hide” their denomination
I used to be on a church board and this was a huge topic as so many nearby churches were changing their names to seem more generic, rather than the denominations they actually are.
That's interesting.
Yes. I'm from KC and have noticed this as well. The non- denominational charismatic church I attended as a teen and young adult changed names. I clearly remember seeing a table in one of the prayer rooms there that had many copies of "To train up a child" stacked up on it for the "parenting classes". I read a bit from it out of curiosity and was absolutely mortified with what I was reading and put the book down..talked about using a hickory switch on a 2yr old. I remember seeing a lot of mom's with their babies in the narthex, wooden spoon in hand. Made me angry and broke my heart to be honest. Needless to say when the "Holy Laughter Movement" moved into the church in the mid 90's , I moved out!!
U rite😮😮
I really hope that this amazing woman has great loving support around her… i was raised with shame its a beast to clear away. She’s so fragile still but incredible to speak out like this!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks Andrew, this was such a brilliant interview. Sccoccimario 💥

Great interview Andrew😮
With months of group counseling, having someone play my role in my most difficult memories, I was able to understand things much better. Love the child and teen I was and understand why my mom got me out of the house as soon as legal in the closest state, I was 15. I was strong, determined, ending up 2200 miles from home just in time to find a place to live before I had a 9lb baby boy. Im not quite 5ft tall, I looked like a pregnant fish. He spent the week with his gf and spent the wknd with me, he didn't think I knew. I left him (expecting. #2) & I went back 2200miles, went to college at 17..Point is as the kids spent Christmas with his parents, I was lost and alone while they were gone, fought the feelings of myself as a child, not deserving a lovely Christmas.....
Yes, I knew about about IBLP and I am surprised that your guest only refers to him as being inappropriate with girls, when in fact what he did would constitute rape.
Sadly that word can't be used on UA-cam videos otherwise they get demonitised. Even for important sober discussions about the issues of it.
Thank you for providing a supportive platform for people to speak out against monstrous institutions.
OMG!!! I feel so sorry for the state of our society. I think we are here to expand our intellect and become more loving towards the other. Jennifer, like you, I don’t believe in this deity that create hell. Or that it has chosen people. I am so happy you were able to free yourself. And that you are speaking up. I can’t say anything because I was never into any religion. You are my voice. Thank you.
It’s sad that an abusive cult made her not believe in God. I don’t go to church for my own similar reasons but I have my own personal faith with him. Just sad to see abusive people push people away from love.
Excellent show both.😢
I’ve only ever been to churches for a few weddings and funerals, I’ve never had any religion, I find all this cult stuff really odd.
Same here. It's hard to understand it if you’ve never had that mindset. We aren't equipped to do those mental gymnastics.
I think that's a point Andrew made, was that not all cults are religious. There are lots of high pressure, high control groups and settings out there that aren't religious.
MLM sales groups are very cultish a lot of times.
Religion can be fine and a positive force in peoples lives. As soon as the separation from “others”, even/espcially if family…..which is always a determinant of a cult….I’m out.
@@johnnyripple8972 I can see the point of religion, it stops bad people behaving like barbarians if they fear penance in the afterlife, but when you come to terms with there being no afterlife and the fear of death, it all seems very odd to me, especially as I was brought up without religion in my family.

That prayer room solitary confinement sounds awful. Such cruelty.
Social isolation for anyone can be devastating and traumatizing😢 Our bodies and biology are built for connection, and to use solitary confinement to break anyone - not least little children - is horrifying.
Not the Africans and the drums of evil lol. Seriously though, these cults are weird AF. Another great episode Andrew.

Scrupulosity is big in the Mormon church also
How so?
@@joscelynpease6656 I’m not Mormon, but I have listened to so many of their experiences of trying to get free of the high controls in that church. There is so much emphasis on being worthy, not sinning. Not drinking coffee, not committing sexual sin (which is next to murder), making sure to read enough scripture, to pray enough. All those things affect the level of the celestial kingdom that the person will achieve. People living that way sometimes develop OCD tendencies around religious beliefs, which is scrupulosity.
It is so difficult for me to watch this dear human tell her story. I tried to explain to my father that i had developed problems because of purity culture that made it so i cannot look in the mirror and he made fun of me instead of trying to understand. Today i made it to the part in the video where she talks about winter. Our trauma doesn't come wrapped in neat little packages that are easy to explain and make sense to everyone. It's the result of our worldviews being shattered and distorted, it seeps into our bones and our dreams. And it never needed to happen. We can prevent this pain. Thank you for the work you do on this channel, Andrew.
Very similar to my JW upbringing in a lot of ways. Especially girls being taught that rape is their own fault. Really awful stuff.

Her blanket blaming of Christianity is frankly daft.
Question everything, reassess often times and trust little
COMPETITIVE MODESTY!
YES this is so common! The others being a competitive amount of kids, poverty, husbands working away the home 18 hours a day from their kids so wife can be at home with the kids 24-7
I'm a Christian woman in Australia and I have to say that most evangelical churches have drums. American church is not a honest representation of the church as it is supposed to be.
Shiny Happy People is an REM song about prozac which is relatively new at the time
Once she mentioned that she had to remember to thank God for the green light, I had the biggest Aha moment I've had in years. Now I understand what I've always quietly thought of as "religious OCD".
I grew up in a Christian family myself, but thankfully in the kind that was focused on the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament. You know: Do not judge, treat others the way you want them to treat you etc. (I don't think my father could have ever forgiven himself if he had laid a hand on my mother or us kids in anger.) However, I had school friends who grew up in a Pentacostal congregation that followed a light version of what she described here, and I sometimes went to meetings and services with them. Very different from what I was used to. As we grew up, some of them wandered into this "religious OCD" state of mind. Others went really hard to the wild side. If they were going to Hell for all eternity anyway for not being perfect, they should at least enjoy themselves in this life. I'm not a Christian as an adult, but I never had that really wild period in my youth either. I understand all of them much better now. Thank you!
Mid-thirties?!?!? Lovelyou...I would have guessed early twenties. I believe you do shine, because now you can be you. Stay strong♡

I watched every episode of the Dugger's show. I thought they were so cool, until Josh was exposed as molesting his sisters. That's when I learned more about IBLP and was shocked. Shocked again when Anna stayed with Josh and had more children after he was discovered as a P. Jennifer is so strong and it's so sad that all the experiences has lead her to be an atheist. I've been in and out of Christianity, too. I'm back in now. Bless you, Jennifer. It's great that you are taking care of yourself.
Have never personally experienced "racial underpinnings in general Christianity" in all my 57 years. That was strange to hear, considering it is complete opposite to what I've learned from studying the bible & having a relationship with God. Perhaps that's more of a so-called "christian cult" thing, yet certainly not any part of sound, biblical doctrine as I understand it. We are all created equal in God's design, & loved & cherished as such~regardless of skin color, gender, economics, etc.
That being said, I do not belong to any organized religion, denomination, church building or group because I do not believe in nor agree with church as a business model. I do not believe (from my own study) that was ever God's intention, & humans seem to have made a real mess of it, imho. None of that is the least bit necessary in order to be a Christian & have a connection to our Creator.
I had never heard of them until this video
Andrew-please do an expose of how the wives are supposed to behave, in particular the book how to be a helpmeet by Debbie pearl. I was given this book and luckily having grown up not in the cult I was able to see it for the evil it was and plan my escape. Please would you expose this dangerous teaching about marriage
It's so true that in submission/purity culture women are taught that their bodies are not their own, and if their husbands cheat, the question is what the wife was doing wrong 😢
Sadly some use God & His Word in such a vile way. Those in relationship & know Him know He is a God of order. He multiplies, adds, brings peace, comfort, sound knowledge. lucifer the counterfeit is chaos. Subtracts, divides, confusion & pain. This story is heart breaking
Well said, he deceives by taking the good and twists it. Some of these ideas would be a protection from evil if not taken to the horrific extremes.
My son played drums for several protestant churches praise and worship teams. He was also in a Christian rock band. So she's not telling the truth on that.

It really bothers me that these cults are called "christian fundamentalist" when they focus so much on old testament. Christ didn't show up until the new testament gospels. Respectfully, as someone who’s been raised in the Baptist church, your church and those beliefs are NOT EVEN REMOTELY reflected in the Southern Baptist Convention’s theology!! We have drummers who play on Sunday mornings (along with a bassist, guitars, etc), we love people of ALL ethnicities, and we DO NOT consider it our position to judge others. My church is the second largest in the Southern Baptist Convention, so it’s not like I’m from some tiny church that’s different either.
Christianity is NOT about judgment!! Religious zealots and CULTS are about judgment, exclusivity, control and misinterpretation of the Bible. I simply felt that needs to be reiterated, because to make a blanket statement, claiming that “Christianity is racist/prejudiced” is COMPLETELY FALSE.
❤ Agreed 👍
Seducing spirits are at work in her life alegedly, because institute in Basic Life Principles were EXCELLENT! And nothing like what she said
You're funny!! The south is pretty racist and judgemental. Plenty of religion in the south.
I swallowed christianity for 25+ years. Yes, they are CULTS, toxic, harmful...HELL!
Peter C. Wagner has a book on this,
Freedom from the Religious Spirit
"I guess, like, really, you know, like. I mean, um, right, you know...." give me a break. Stupidity rules.
It's one thing to educate the public and educate children to think independently and critical thought. But how do you communicate with people who have been intentionally cut off from society. And do the laws need to be changed so local governments can do more than a social worker superficial visits. Maybe if these cults apply for tax exemptions they can dig a little deeper. In the interim can we keep government and religion separate like it's suppose to be. And teach Comparative Religions in public schools so more tolerance and knowledge is in the forefront of these young minds !
This seems to be the norm in America that no one has called these cults dressed as a religious organization 🤦🏼♀️😩😱
Yes, Bill Gothard was a very humble person...
...with a private plane and a luxury suite in all of the IBLP estates. 😅
I can hear the pain in her voice...... Her voice sounds the way i feel, when i talk about my experience with my dad' brand of christianity. But when i discuss this, my voice is angry..... My pain translates into anger.
Huh I thought it was just a song. Really good one too. But just a song. Is the song about the cult I never realised I thought was about people being happy.
I'm so sorry you had to live under such tyranny. Every soul deserves free will, Patriarchy sucks. These people are always perverts.
It always amazes me, having listened to/watched a number of cult exposing media, how incredibly weak these "religions" make men out to be. By all logic, if men just can't control themselves in any sense of the word, then the women should be the ones running things. Its also amazing that so many men buy into these beliefs and basically adfmit that they are weak and will do literally anything at the sight of, say, an ankle. I would be ashamed if my guy bought into a religion that had that at it's base.
*ETA - I get that it comes down to physical strength...and, as a woman, it's hard to think about it that way.
It's not even physical strength. In a lot of these cults, women are expected to do hard labour even while pregnant and mothering 10-15 children or even being breadwinners while also being submissive, inferior women, "pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen". It's just an insane amount of cognitive dissonance. And men buy into it more and leave less because it benefits them more. They can do anything without taking responsibility.
My heart goes out to this young woman. I understand her pain because my family got mixed up in the same thing and I was in a very bad marriage and stayed there for 33 years because I was afraid to leave because in the Bible that says God hates divorce. When I finally did leave I felt like I was completely lost for several years, but finally realize that God does still love me. My children some are still struggling with their faith, and what life is all about. But just because all this bad stuff goes on and doesn't mean that God isn't real. Man is the one that made up all the garbage lies and rules to follow.
I hope youre doing well now.
Let's be clear, these groups are not of God, not Christianity! Read the bible, God created us all equal, men, women, cultures! No abuse is acceptable, they will have to answer to God for their abuse of scripture! You should never stay in an abusive situation! Jesus was very clear we are to love others!
Yeah, read the bible. Specifically Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Rape is okay so long as you pay the father of the raped girl the equivalent of $548, and then she he has to marry the rapist. Good book…
@@stevesheroan4131oh so I’m guessing you also make it a point to show how the Goddess Athena from Greek mythology was morally backwards whenever someone mentions Greek mythology or Greek history, right?
@@jennacoffey4845 Nobody is threatening me with eternal damnation if I don’t accept Greek mythology as fact, so I have no reason to challenge its legitimacy.
@@stevesheroan4131 where did someone threaten you in this thread? Or did someone do that to you once and somehow that gives you license to make this comment any time you see anything Christian-related?
Cause to me it looks like you just posted this comment unprovoked to a person who wasn’t speaking directly to you but was actually making a comment to the op that happens to be related to her personal beliefs and included a Bible scripture verse and you viciously posted your comment to be a jerk and mock her faith. That’s what it looks like to me. And if that’s the case then you are a hypocrite and an a$$hat.
@@jennacoffey4845 True, nobody directly threatened me, however Christianity says that if I don’t believe the bible I will burn in eternal hell, so telling me to read the bible is provocation in my eyes. I strongly disagree that the Bible is good place to start when trying to escape cult. If that makes me an a#%hat, then so be it. I could have posted multiple “scriptures” that condone misogyny, mutilation, slavery, and vengeance if I were really trying to be a jerk, I just thought I’d post one that showed where I believe the real hypocrisy lies, based on the op’s comment. I apologize for offending you, have a wonderful life.
Good show Andrew ❤🎉🎉❤
