The little girl was Ed and Al's mom. Hohenheim first met her when she was a child, through coming around to hang with Pinako when she was younger. Pinako was his drinking buddy.
I don't think your philosophy can be used on immortal, and it's not like he fall in love with her when she at a young age
@@drazydark1736
He never said he felt in love with her when she was a child
This is the greatest recap episode in anime history.
imho, Samurai Champloo is good too
Crulex Meh, still a recap episode.
kill la kill did it in a badass way aswell, but kill la kill is just: lets take anime tropes and kick em in overdrive to make something unique
I know not everyone considers it an anime, but Avatar had a great recap episode with the play, making fun of itself and listening to the fans' comments on the great divide (best joke btw xD) and other things.
Have you forgotten the anime Avatar the Last Airbender?
The woman with the pipe, was Winrey's grandma Pinako Rockbell when she was younger. Hohenheim's brain was using her as his past, softer haearted self.
Also the little girl who asked him to dance, the young woman who was talking about humans, were both his wife. She was growing up before his eyes as he remembers the past.
How the hell that she shrank like that??? Wtf?
Francisco Ortiz Rodríguez that’s what happens when you get older
Travis, unless you have an extremely rare medical condition its literally impossible to get smaller as you age and even the rare people that do don't lose more than 1.5-2cm, its just bad posture in real life that makes some older people look smaller, in the anime its just an overexaggerated caricature
@@alexmag342 totally, like Genma in Yu Yu Hakusho
the little girl he met was his wife
WaffleO that's so wrong '-'
wachu mean?
it's not like he did anything to her while she was young
Very true. For an immortal guy thats not as big of a deal, considering he was alive when just about every female he met in his life was a child.
All the way up until before he became immortal.
Yup, I dont know why they didnt notice. Nice way to indicate that he doesnt ages...
Just finished the whole anime!! 64 episodes! Way worth it!!!!! One of the best anime ending i've ever seen!!
*+Cass Hermoso* I'm glad you liked it, and yeah the ending is really satisfying, one of the reasons this is one of my favorite anime.
Welcome to the club of people that have been enlightened
yep i started watching after episode 10 of blind wave, i've been done for weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks
I was watching along with TheFlamingShark but I watched ahead on my own during the Brigs part.
Yeah, now you've got a heart made of...
All three girls are his wife. the little girl asking to dance, the teenager/young adult talking to him and the final adult. All three are his wife.
No the woman he’s talking to is pinako winrys grandma
@@davidajayi6516 The young woman who talked to Hohenheim about people's weakness, is Trisha
This is about the inner conflict of Hoenheim... How he feels about humans and how different his views are from Father...
This show takes on the perspective that humans = fragile, mortal, "weak" = they have so much to fight for and getting stuff done, their weakness is at the same time their strength. It's a similar approach like in the Lord of the rings. They are at the same time most susceptible to evil, but also capable of the greatest bravery and sacrifice for others.
The little girl was young Trisha, and the woman with the pipe was Granny Rockbell. XD
The takeaway should be that while Hohenheim has a static age within his dreams that matches his current age , everyone else has fluid ages that don't match with their current ages. WHAT COULD IT MEAN?
I think they've kinda locked in on the idea that the only way to be immortal is to be a homunculus, discounting the idea that someone could just use a Philosophers Stone for immortality like Nicolas Flemel from Harry Potter.
CALVIN GETS IT! (Regarding who younger characters are/Pinako and Trisha.)
During Hohenheim's dream the woman who was smoking and he was drinking with, Pinako Rockbell, is the granny. Calvin is right. the little girl, the teenage girl, and the woman who is revealed to be Ed and Al's mom are all the same person, Trisha Elric. Hohenheim's dream is all over the place and is designed to confuse the viewer. so, what we really get to find out is that Hohenheim has been around a while, probably a really really long while
when ed met his dad again in episode 20 pinako was reminiscing about how he hasn't changed since back in the day and was looking at an old photo of herself and him drinking with their friends. the little girl who wanted to dance with him in this episode and the older girl who said "we can change" is his wife trisha
I love that you can see the gears turning in Calvin's head. He's slowly putting it all together (especially when Pinako was unmasked).
This is the only series that has ever made me cry with a recap episode XD The end gets me every time.
Definitely the least annoying and most satisfying recap episode ever.
Kill la Kill
It's Hohenheim grappling with his own conscience.
Yes the little girl is Trisha which they showed at different ages every time they focused on her
I enjoy how they did this recap. I believe this is one of the most insightful episodes of the show. The information about Hohenheim is really important and if we hadn't had those other scenes (recap) placed in there it wouldn't have had enough of an impact. Also, if they had placed this Hohenheim stuff along with where the main characters left off the episode would have felt different, and we wouldn't have seen the struggle Hohenheim was going through.
With everywhere the other main characters are - I enjoy that this is a Hohenheim-centric episode. All the other characters are in the enemy's hand. Al is basically about to meet Father; Ed, Ling, and Envy are about to come out of Gluttony's stomach; Mustang is with Bradley. If they had placed Hohenheim's dream/memories within the same part of what is happening in the plot I believe it would have been less of an impact to the audience.
The women with the pipe is Pinaco (winery's grandmother) probably showing her at at the time they were 'drinking buddies.' The little girl, Middle Aged girl are both Ed and Al's mother at different stages of her life showing how long the've known each other and also that Hohenheim doesn't age. It also shows how his wife family have changed his depiction of humanity, giving him hope.
Both the little girl, the girl talking to him about humanity, and the wife are all the same person. The person with the pipe is Granny Pinako, they showed a picture of her back in 19 of her looking like that when she was younger. Plus, Hohenhiem even calls her "Pinako", you just missed it.
Everything was kind of a dream. Pinako was young and she talked about edward and al doing human transmutation... when actually she was already an old granny when they did that. The little girl was hohenheim future wife, hinting he is in fact a lot older than he appear. It's a scene hohenheim remember from his past but discuss about things from the present. As if Time had no effect on him.
Some of these episodes have after Credit scenes. Don't miss out on them.
Ah man, you missed Olivier in the intro.
Well, Eric specifically doesnt want spoilers in Intros, and so seeing as we didnt meet her yet, its good that he missed her^^
Brillux No, that doesn't make any sense. It's not a spoiler. By that logic, Eric shouldn't watch any intro ever for any show.
Well, i dont know what to tell ya^^ he said in this video that he tries to not pay attention to much during the intro, and remember how they made calvin look away during the dbza intros, so he wouldnt see spoilers, so yeah^^
The only "spoiler" in the intro is the replacement Homonculus (deliberately vague). Everything else in the intro is either irrelevent events that never happen or characters who are introduced by name either before or at the same time as they are shown.
that outro with the 8-bit version of op 3 is really fukin dope
Hoenheim saying thank you to the empty alcohol bottle xD
Lunick Martins College students (read: me) be like.
The intro has some great imagery to scan through.
The woman he was drinking with was grandma and the little girl was his wife I think
that Woman he was talking to was grandma Rockbell yeah, and the little girl is his wife (Ed and Al's mother)
The funny thing is that the little girl who wanted to dance was his wife when she was little.
So here is a proof that good recaps are actually usefull :)
the girl asking him to dance was his future wife
You know the people who have watched this anime, can not explain without spoiling stuff. And yeah she was Pinako Rockbell, Wnry's grandmother.
Tho it's a recap episode I love the ending with Trish and Hohenheim. It really shows Hohenheim humanity and how connected he is to Trish.
The woman, Pinako, was actually him because he was talking to himself or rather his conscience. The conflict between him thinking about the plans and actually doing something is well represented through a recap episode.
The little girl that asked to dance was his wife. And the woman with pipe was the grandma.
Thank god they didn't skip
14:22 I love the speculation that happens
9:51 "because we are getting stronger with every ... *cut to vacuum cleaner commercial*" I swear youtube does that on purpose...
mfg
Olli
You rock Calvin! You are so on with a lot of your thoughts!
That was all going on in Hohenheim's mind.
Love that they were dancing to Golden Time Lover! That intro's so groovy lol
Hohenheim is my favorite character so any episode with him excites me even if it's a recap. Good discussion, crew!
Interlude Party is one of my favorite episodes because of how introspective it is, and how much it hints the things to come, also, since you guys seemed confused by it, Pinako (and yes it is granny Rockbell) represents the part of his mind that wants to fight for humanity, and also yes, the young girl who wants to dance and the one who inspired him at the end are indeed Trisha as she was when he first met her, implying that since he spent so much time around Pinako he watched her grow up before falling in love with her
This is the original story btw! This is straight from the manga, the other one is a little different! but brotherhood is definitely better cuz it explains things better
It will all make sense soon don't worry lol
Yeah, pinako is the grandmother. She shrank as she grew old. It's a running gag.
I like how the whole episode (even if it's a recap) is about hohenheim's interior thoughts, trapped by himself between his own experiences, his conscious (personalized by Pinako) and his fears (homonculi), until his wife shows up and give him an exterior and clearer view of humanity.
From the weak comes the mighty
This is one of my favorite openings (besides the last two and AGAIN) :D I loved seeing them getting into the song lol
I like Eric's genuine expressions when the emotional beats hit. 😄👍 Spoiler kinda: hoenheim is super old which is why he remembers people when they were younger.. much younger
So it's actually for real this time? You guys have put me through an emotional rollercoaster the past couple times.
The big thing is going back and rewatching the Openings after certain points, Like the first opening after episode 34
Calvin's analysis is always so on point lol
Dont suppose we could get 2 this week? a Recap and the next part of the story pretty pls...
It will all make sense in time.
HYPE FOR NEXT EPISODE
for some reason i love this ep the more i watch it
the little girl that wanted to dance with him was a younger version of ed and alphonse mom and the woman with the pipe and bottle was winrys grandmother he was thinking of what they would say to him if they knew what he knew he was playing the part of pinako rockbell because obviously she is still alive and not a part of his philosophers stone because we know he has lived for a long time all of the people dancing around the fire were individual souls within his stone he was struggling to resist the temptation to see people as nothing more than a recorce to be used and see them as individuals with their own will and dreams with potential to change and not keep repeating the same mistakes of destroying themselves as a species
This episode is like watching a fuse being lit for next weeks episode.
Hold onto your butts.
Next ep tho. oh boy
If you like anime that make you question shit then you will LOVE DURARARA!!!
Just so you guys know leor is the town that ed and al saved in episode 3(where they dethrowned that guy with the fake philosopher stone)-
Pinako was symbolic with Hohenheim's positivism and Humanity.
Still my all time favorite recap episode.
I wonder when it would be a good time for them to watch the OVAs.
Next episode is going to be greatt
Anyone else notice their ending/outro music was an 8-bit version of the new opening they just watched?
This is a recap episode done right.
I don't dislike this episode, it's just that the next episode is so good
Now that's how you do a Recap Episode
Damn feels are here
my body is ready
Once you learn one important detail a lot of this will make more sense.
Calvin sounds like a pirate in the beginning
There's an end credit scene next episode. Hopefully u watched it.
I don't know how it would have played out if Hohenheim were to be actually Father...
that's acid dream, no alcohol did that....
if you notice it didn't show him young when he met the mother it looked that way to me
The fact that we get one episode a week and we get a recap episode is a kick in the balls
A recap episode that gives you feels is a kick in the balls.
damn. i forgot how good this anime was.
sorry, i meant IS.
tell me why the fuk no reactors recognize Pinako Rockbell's name as Winry's grandma oml
The little girl is the wife. Ehehe I know it is too late to say, but it is fun to say😂😂😂😂😂
Mustang is my freaking favorite character.💖
DAMMIT INTERLUDE PARTYYYYYYYY
Whoever's reading the comments for the crew, relay this: You should most definitely mute the intro music in post so you don't get taken down by the Japanese record labels.
But it was muted? The music you hear is the room sound, which can't be removed without also cutting out their voices. And only small sections of it were used, so it should be fine.
this was a rare filler episode for FMA Brotherhood, with the non-recap part not in the manga.
Calvin got it all correct just listen to him :P
Ive been watching reactions to Attack on Titan on a different channel and oh man these guys need to check out that show!
When it switches to older Trish and you realize who she is with the family....goddamn onions...
You will understand when the series ends,
omg, forgot this was that recap episode. I was expecting the episode where ed, envy and ling comes back, and wanted to see their reaction when someone else comes back ;)
Not a fan of recap episodes but I can't wait until you guys get to a certain episode.
323starlight which one?
You can do recap episodes very well... for example the Avatar recap episode was awesome!
(and this one was pretty good too)
This is by far the best recap episode I think I have ever seen
"He will not cum without a soul" - Eric - YOU SAID NO JOKES!!!
How does it take them so long to post the Rick Reacts videos on Sundays? Don't they have those available on Patreon a week in advance?
Yes but they also have a set time in their schedule for when they upload it.
Katie Stubbs Thanks. Where can I learn about this schedule? Is it on their website or do they just occasionally mention it in videos?
I know it's not gonna be for a while, but since we're midway through FMAB pretty much, you should watch Hunter x Hunter 2011 after you finish it, I think it would definitely cater to your tastes, as long as you stick with it as the first 5 episodes can turn some people away from it because they might seem a bit childish but it definitely gets amazing and dark later
We should get these guys to react to Red vs Blue
How are some comments a week old when the episode came out today lol?
Vespid Coffee275 patreon gets it a week early
So do we get a double episode special because we didn't get one last Sudnay?
*+Lucent Lulu* We did get episode 26 last Sunday, but it wasn't showing in the subscriptions feed for some reason, check the FMAB playlist on their channel.
the dmv episode of dbz is the best episode on that god damn series, fight me
More more more
Guys was this a reupload ?, because Im seeing comments from a week ago
Patreon get early access.
Those are the pateon comments. Because they get them a week early remember?
