Spark, Fuel, Air/combustion, I had a guy complaining about a no start issue. He had snapped the con rod in half so he had no compression. Being a newbie he didn't sense the difference in how it pulled with the recoil starter. (it was a 4 stroke). Another had a no start issue and wanted the part numbers for a new CDI, coil and stator, I convinced him to start at the simplest , check his On/Off switch first and then work up to the magneto. It was a bad connection on the kill switch. So Tony is spot on, 98.3 % of the time its a bad wiring connection. But on a 2 stroke it could be a severely wet fouled spark plug, but you'll discover that when you pull it.
Tony, this is a very informative video. I love everything that you have stated. However when a motorcycle gas bike Harley-Davidson whatever you have or even a car for that matter sets up too long. There's also a thing called varnished fuel. It has to do with evaporation values and moisture AKA condensation. I would advise if you've had your bike sitting up for more than a couple of months to drain the tank before you even try to start it. Other than that you have covered everything beautifully as always
Not a criticism but more of a note... you neglected to mention that the fuel selection lever has two positions. Straight down, which is for normal fuel delivery and straight up, for reserve fuel. This is something that some new riders might not have any experience with since there would still appear to be gas in the tank. Over all, well done.
@@tonytaylor5087 You would need to pull the petcock from the tank to be sure, but all the ones I've gotten from these Chinese engines have the off position sideways, the on position selector switch "tail' is straight down and the reserve switch position has the 'tail' straight up. Once the petcock is out, you will see two mesh filters, one tall and one short. Make sure they are not plugged with crud from inside the tank. With a clean piece of of tubing on the carb end of the petcock, you can blow backwards while working the lever to find which way the on position is. If you turn it the wrong way, you will empty the tank and have no reserve. Hope that helps, sorry to have taken so long.
Outstanding explanation Mr Tony,My Bross & i bouth a 80cc each to instal to our bikes,& we cuide with your well explained & educative videos thanks, continúe with motorized bikes Say hello jorge.
Thanks for video. One issue I didn't expect to encounter was with AIR. I have one of my engines with a "70" jet and it was on the rich side.... it was a summer hot day and normally I don't ride if it starts raining but it started raining and the air got humid and made it so that there was LESS oxygen in the air (the warmer the air, the less oxygen or richer your fuel mixture gets) so my fuel mixture got so rich the engine turned off on it's own and would not start! I was far from home and getting rained on and had to PEDAL on this hot summer day and it sucked! lol. I would add that maybe the my HP carb air filter got soaked and made it harder for the engine to get air making it even MORE richer on the fuel mixture side. So in conclusion, carry a extra jet size on the higher and lower side (like a 65 and a 75) AND remove your air filter on rainy summer days if your engine stops running lol (or the opposite if you running LEAN on a very cold day).
on one of my builds the nt carb has a slotted neck. make sure it is on all the way. ive had the instance where if its not on all the way it sucks excess air through the slots
Thanks for the video Tony! I bought a stage 4 kit after watching a few of your videos. and the bike won’t idle. Tried everything with no avail. Also noticed the auto choke isn’t clicking off with throttle roll? Any ideas? It’s looks to be good, slide is going up and down. One other thing, I did remove the elbow for the throttle cable on the carb, per a bikeberry instructional video, and thinking there may be too much play in the cable without it.
Mine is set for a long time more than once. Cranks up every time. Kid down the street.. let's just set up during the summer time. Sounds like crap when he starts it up. I told him to drain the tank and put fresh gas as well as draining the fuel line and the carburetor bowl. Dang his bike sound awesome right after that. So should you ever experience that problem you don't know what to do
If the spark plug clip stays on but wiggles, does that keep a gas bike from running? I have an older Onyx Gennisis gas bike. Was running ok, but now won't stay running.
My starting problem is when I leave it sitting for about 20 minutes or so. It takes too many tries to get it going again. Once running, it runs okay, but 4-cycles a lot. I leaned out my mixture, a little improvement, less oil in the fuel helped a little, but I don't know how to make it much better than it is. I can deal with the little problems if I can get it to start more reliably.
I am brand new. Half pooped out of the womb. Any advice is appreciated. I got an ‘auto morris’ 110CC 2 stroke engine and we installed it to the bike properly, I believe. We skipped a few steps like the chain guard. I tried pedalling down the road and I couldn’t get it to start. I live on a highway on a flat stretch so I can’t do the whole, ‘downhill for first start’. I gotta pedal two chains and try to start it with the clutch and reving handle bar(not a tech/mechanical person, but may as well start now. I already broke the filter so I had to get a new one. I want to take this thing into town and down this off road path, but I gotta start it first.

I just got done putting a 80 cc mothor on mybeach cruiser but now it is having a hard time pedaling to get it to start. Do you know what thevproblem, might be
I just got my bike running last night and then I went to play with the idle screw to get it to idle, I set it to high and I had the clutch engaged and I went to grab a screw driver to adjust it and then it just shut off and now it won’t start, it’s getting Gas, it has spark, but it won’t start. What do I do?
What kind of fuel do I use for my huffy motorbike? I just received one but I don't know where to put the oil? Or is this a fuel/oil mixture kind of thing?
@DonaldLatrella is there a way to tell if it is a 2 or 4 stroke? Like I can tell if an engine is a 4 or 6 or whatever cylinder but never had to figure out if an engine is a 2 or 4 stroke
Spark question: Motor won't start and I've checked the fuel, air leaks, and spark. I tried placing the sparkplug against the metal head and saw sparking, but seemed like a weak spark. Is there a degree of sparking or is as long as there's sparking I'm good?
Having a carburetor issue it's leaking gas I tried cleaning the hole carburetor I checked the float bowl no gas in there i Bent the prongs just above the float bowl it stopped leaking but now I can't get the motor to start so maybe I adjusted the prongs back to far I'm not sure any suggestions would be great
I have the 100 cc motor with the HP carburetor and for the life of me I have not been able to get it running it's got fuel in the carburetor I've cleaned it once it had something to bring in it it's clean now spark plugs good it when I pedal it and it seems like it tries to start it just never catches and it kind of does a surge thing any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Tony, when I try to start my motorized bike, the engine is turning but the piston doesn't move. I tried tightening the clutch plate and that seemed to help a little. Sometimes it starts but most times it doesn't. The piston doesn't go up and down when I begin to pedal it. It's like it's just free spinning... Something is not engaging.. What is wrong with my engine? Please help. Thanks

I got one of them there 80cc motor kits from eBay I'm not sure if it's a defective motor or what everything looked like it was brand new And it won't start I reckon it might be electrical issue
May sound like a idiot here, but I had installed my magneto loop backwards, something that made it sound like it was flooded and wouldn't start. Flipped it after seeing another video that mentioned don't install it backwards. Cranked right up! Hopefully this could help someone else.
I got a brand new motor that ran for a day and a half and then just quit when the fuel mixture got messed up and now I can't get it to run it all and the timing is right the fuel is right is that spark and it won't even try to start
You know what I have been a loyal Bikeberry customer for between five and seven years really I lost track spending thousands of dollars to bike Barry building custom bikes for people through your site and never had an issue but I got to say this last experience I have had I don’t even want to deal with Mike Barry anymore at all and that takes a lot to say considering 5 to 7 years of constant loyal being a customer this last time I ordered I spent a good bit of money and I have had nothing but issues throughout this entire exchange for one the motor that was sent was a cracked crank case and I don’t mean oh it had a little hairline fracture I mean there’s no way in crap this thing should’ve ever made it anywhere off the assembly line at all I mean junk completely destroyed machining from the head bolts not to mention throughout the entire outside of the crank case as well and as I ordered a black 8 mm upgraded engine kit stage four when I got when talking to customer service was a 6 mm crank case silver that is nowhere near the quality of the 8 mm kit that I ordered and I am extremely disappointed it has been a fight from the beginning to the very bitter end and it doesn’t matter what I say or how hard I try I can’t even get expedited shipping on the downgrade crank case that is not in any way shape or form what I ordered and it has been a fight with every single customer service representative that I have had except for summer whether that’s her real name or not she is the only one that has actually given me any kind of real customer service throughout this whole experience every other one has fought me the entire way and most of them have no idea what they’re even talking about with their own product that they or the customer representative service of basic questions that I have asked just to see if they knew what they was talking about because nothing was making sense and I was astounded at the replies that I got knowing nothing about their own product but they sell the details of the product that they sell or the ability to have anything to do with that product whatsoever I mean Tony is great don’t get me wrong I love his videos I love how honest he is and as far as customer support goes summer is great aside from that every other person I have talk to mind you this is 7 to 8 people now have no idea whatsoever what they’re talking about and Ken in no way help me or give me the proper fix to my issues that are from factory all the way down the line to me and I have caught nothing but crap I got to say Tony I am extremely extremely disappointed and I don’t think I will be doing business with Mike Berry again after this one incident after 5 to 7 years of business with you building bikes completely customized and upgraded as well as building accounts for my customers for your site this one experience I don’t think I will ever buy a single thing from bike Mary ever again and that really pains me to say because you guys do have some of the best upgrades but considering the experience that I’ve been through it’s not worth the time it’s not worth the money and it’s not worth the hassle to continue to go through this… R.I.P. bikeberry… PS I also apologize for any misspelling as I am doing this through talk to text as I had so much to say and little time to do it due to the fact that I am still fighting and working with this kid to get it together… I can almost promise you too I will try my best to post this comment on every single bike berry video that is posted from anyone so everyone knows what is really going on until something changes!! And I am not that kind of person at all!!
My bike make me realy crazy i dont know what i do,first i checks fas is ok and second the plugs is comes power and i did everything as i washed the carburettor and the air is ok , Please tell me what ido ???
Here's one for you I was cruising along when my motor just bogged out and died...after looming it over I found I lost spark...I've checked everything and I have no idea why
I’ve had a couple like that. The little flip lever doesn’t get pulled up far enough to get outta the way. Adjusting my throttle cable took care of it. Please note...Had to use the aluminum throttle grip as it has more options to slot the cable in.
I just put a mottor on my son's bike started ran for prolly 15 mins off and on died off will not start I've cleaned the plug checked spark it's hitting plug is wet when I pull it so it's getting fuel even leaned out the mix a tad checked connectors nothing... I've checked fuel fire and It should have compression it's brand new?????
I have spark, fuel, and air and cannot get this brand new kit to even try to start. Boggles my mind especially since I have compression as well. Might just be screwed. Wont even try to fire with ether spray.
I can’t say it enough, learn to solder! Get away from crimp lugs. It’s very easy and it’s really not expensive. Get a box of heat shrink tubing, solder, and soldering iron/gun from Harbor Freight. It will cost you less than $20.
What’s the deal about taking the cap off the spark plug all the boots on mine are made for the cap to be left on. I had taken it off of my first bike and was having trouble and I looked inside and saw It was big enough for leaving the cap on replaced the cap and it worked fine
My motor bike was running down the street and heard a pop and motor shut off and can’t get it to restart bought a spark plug and a cdi and still no crank
I've been trying and trying with my new motor and it will not start.I don't know why I've done with that.Worked with five of these things and i've never had this problem
Just built a new 100cc bike cant get it to start , tried new carb , new cdi , new plug , gas everything I can think of , and it won't start !!! P.s brand new never been started { HELP}
I forgot to put my cdi plug on my spark plug and tried starting my bike. When I realized it was off I put it back on and now my bike has trouble starting. It starts and dies. Eventually it goes but it bogs a bit. Can anybody help. How can I fix this.
Gasket on the carburettor was leaking after clean the carburettor out a few times it was made out of Cork made one out of paper gasket 1 ended up making another one wasn't enough for it can't buy them make make ended up with two on it now ok ok
Am most annoyed with my bike. Magneto and CDI went. Clutch cam actuator is on order and due tomorrow because it wore out before breaking was finished. Now I'm sitting here with an engine that won't run. I can hear spark and compression is good, will get that initial firing. I suspect that the e-clip on the carb jet may have come loose. Thus the needle isn't being raised via the throttle. It really feels like the bike just isn't getting any fuel. Frustration

I got one of them there 80cc motor kits from eBay I'm not sure if it's a defective motor or what everything looked like it was brand new
And it won't start I reckon it might be electrical issue
May sound like a idiot here, but I had installed my magneto loop backwards, something that made it sound like it was flooded and wouldn't start. Flipped it after seeing another video that mentioned don't install it backwards. Cranked right up! Hopefully this could help someone else.
What if I have fuel, spark, and compression and it still won't start, just pops smoke from carb or exhaust? The key on magneto isn't sheared
And I am not that kind of person at all!!
bro you good?
My bike make me realy crazy i dont know what i do,first i checks fas is ok and second the plugs is comes power and i did everything as i washed the carburettor and the air is ok ,
Please tell me what ido ???
i run my bike with o filter, since the intake faces backwards and it is nearly impossible for debris to get into it from going forward
Where does the slide
Start closed
all the way or slightly open
Here's one for you I was cruising along when my motor just bogged out and died...after looming it over I found I lost spark...I've checked everything and I have no idea why
I’m having difficulty with my HP carb as it won’t “un choke” as it’s supposed to. I have to release it manually. Any advice?
I’ve had a couple like that. The little flip lever doesn’t get pulled up far enough to get outta the way. Adjusting my throttle cable took care of it. Please note...Had to use the aluminum throttle grip as it has more options to slot the cable in.
Can I clean the spark plug in petrol
I would agree!
Solders in high vibration situations tend to break, a good crimp is much more durable and safer
Why is the choke on my HP Carb not popping up automatically?
What’s the deal about taking the cap off the spark plug all the boots on mine are made for the cap to be left on. I had taken it off of my first bike and was having trouble and I looked inside and saw It was big enough for leaving the cap on replaced the cap and it worked fine
Wow man thanks for the video, I went over the three steps and found I was not getting fuel in the line properly because of a clogged pet-cock.
Connections: Soldered and heat-shrink wrapped.
Gas tank has a Crack in padcock how can i fix it.
The carb float parts came apart in the bowl
Hi my bike won't start I had it for a day went in a puddle and it cut out I brought a new cdi and mageto and still no spark HELPPP
Did you ever figure it out
My motor bike was running down the street and heard a pop and motor shut off and can’t get it to restart bought a spark plug and a cdi and still no crank

I've been trying and trying with my new motor and it will not start.I don't know why I've done with that.Worked with five of these things and i've never had this problem
What was it that caused the problem
I got the kit off of Amazon and I can't find the right sized chain for it could you possibly tell me what size it is
I have a 80cc motor bike in it won't start but im getting spark
I just bought my first kit and it won’t start and I don’t understand why

I forgot to put my cdi plug on my spark plug and tried starting my bike. When I realized it was off I put it back on and now my bike has trouble starting. It starts and dies. Eventually it goes but it bogs a bit. Can anybody help. How can I fix this.
I accidently left my petcock in the on position overnight and now it won't start
Where can i find a hp carburetor and will it fit on a 66cc size engine
i just took off the muffler/exhaust
is any one here from the lakeland plant city area lol
Gasket on the carburettor was leaking after clean the carburettor out a few times it was made out of Cork made one out of paper gasket 1 ended up making another one wasn't enough for it can't buy them make make ended up with two on it now ok ok
Nice to know your solution!!
i have no spark. code it be the coli
Mine was riding good then stalled, could not get it to start,as soon it warms up it's back to the drawing board, lol
Frustration
Did u figure out your problem ? Mines the same and it won’t turn on either. Frustrated
They literally skipped past the piece of information I needed
my bike won't start up wants to but backfires like a car
My only true complain on this video is Tony where in the heck is your hat it's not the same bro
It's spark fuel compression
