Coop needs to read recent SYQQ collar reviews and change what he implied here - that they are top tier, but not recommended just because of cost. Many damaged barbells out there already because of his praise here for them... Even for those that do work properly, I saw videos on UA-cam and they damage the bar by putting little dents in wherever the ball bearings meet sleeves if you drop the bar and stuff like that (putting extra force on those concentrated areas).
I have the Rogue Metal, Rogue Aluminum, and the Eleiko, and I like them all. I do mostly SBD lifts and never had an issue with any of them. Its nice to have a variety so you can choose based on your mood, lol. The good thing about the Eleiko is the weight. .25kg each adds just over a pound, so if you use a 20kg bar it brings that to just over 45 pounds, which makes calculating weights easier when using your 45 pound plates, and the magnets are unexpectedly useful. Rogue is still my go to brand in general for just about everything, and all three I have are all great collars for my purposes. Love the reviews. Keep 'em coming!
Coop’s the best in the business. I’d like to see equipment websites and apps have a Coop score beside each product. If it’s got less than three Coop Stars ⭐️ move along. Hey Coop…that’s a way to scale man! Keep up the great work!
Coop the one thing you keep forgetting to mention that makes the Oppen collars great is they can be taken off even after you've loaded more plates on the outside of the sleeve. Every workout at least once I forget to take off my collar and load a plate. For any other collar, I have to pull the plate back off. With the Oppen, I just slip the collar off and push the weight flush. Just a nice little way to avoid a very common hassle.
I've been using my generic Amazon $7 special collars for 4 years now without a single issue even while deadlifting. I don't need to jump on my plates to see if it moves lol. I don't drop weights from overhead so there's that.
I'm pretty happy with cheapies, too, except for deadlifting, where they loosen up after a few sets. You don't need much holding power for doing squats or bench.
The syqq collars are actually a great option for people with severely weak hands. As a quadriplegic operating the levers can be extremely difficult but being able to simply push it on & pull it off will make it a great option.
@@chethammer - So there is "incomplete paraplegia" and "incomplete quadriplegia" for example, but the chances are very high that the OP is making an elaborate comment to joke about quadriplegics. He's addressed that. I think it was that he's got other things going on in his life and he just doesn't care to dedicate that much time into looking a certain way.
I workout in my garage, no heater, temps drop below zero during the winter. If you are in a similar boat, id recommend not going with plastic collars as they will easily break in those temps. An all metal design is probably best. I have the magnetic rouge ones that Coop mentions and they have so far held up really well
I bought the SYQQ collars from Amazon based on this review, but it was trash. The locking mechanism didn’t engage and got stuck on the very tip of the bar. I had to work to get it off of the bar. I can see this thing just destroying your bar.
@@mattdouglas8900 it got stuck on the REP stainless steel power bar, and I gently tried it on the Uesaka comp bar too with no success. The ball bearings inside the collar that are used to lock into the sleeve by retracting into the collar don’t do so enough to let the collar slide smoothly onto the bar.
You're right - our last batch was trash but we've corrected the issue and are now in stock on Amazon and eBay. I hope you returned your previous set of collars for a full refund. I have personally tested all collars from our new batch and the tolerance issue is corrected. They are solid once again like the pair Coop has. Please give us another shot! a.co/d/i9ZEGKh
Man you released this 2 weeks after I orders my Mighty OSO. That said, I do like the mighty oso for the cheaper price over the more expensive model and holds well enough for me.
I have the Rogue ones in ABS and in aluminium. Both get loose after a few dozens of drops with olympic movements, so my pick would be the ones in plastic since are cheaper and weigth ~600 grams (pair), so are useful to count as a half Kg plate. If you really want unamovable collars you will need calibrated ones from weighlifting; they weigth 2.5 Kg and are really expensive, but I wouldn't use them for non olympic wl.
So you are missing 2 collars. Rogue Beefed up their Aluminum collar and added magnets. It is awesome. The guy that build the RooBox Plyobox that Abmat sells is coming out with a collar that looks super cool. It has a mechanism that tightens when dropping the barbell, so it moves closer to the weights.
Nice to see you doing a review by yourself in the garage, instead of that men's health magazine place. Theres a reason why we listen to you and not some men's health magazine.
I use spring clamps but the ones with long handles sticking backwards. I then put them on with that handles facing the plates and force it in tightly. It never comes off.
I have a feeling they aren’t very good, but I’d love to see a review of the “SnapClips” collar. They remind me of the snap bracelets that we used to have as kids.
Coop, I would like to buy a pair of these but not until they fix the problem noted in several Amazon reviews. It would be nice if you would give us a follow up when SYQQ gets this sorted out, or not.
Hey Stephen, we have sorted this out! The last batch of collars we sold after this video came out had a tolerance issue. We provided refunds or replacements for everyone who requested them. We've corrected this and I have personally tested all units on multiple barbells. Please give us another shot! a.co/d/i9ZEGKh
Coop, what a great video. I suggest you should do one with Wrist Wraps. Thanks for your videos, they are a great resource for recomendations that always result in a great decision. Thanks and continue doing great videos. Greetings from Ecuador.
Have had the rogue aluminum collars, eleiko Oppen collars, and SYQQ collars. If I were to choose one given money isn’t an issue, I would go with SYQQ. A true one handed simple collar and beautiful. Eleiko could be functioned with one hand but was very difficult to do so. Check out my review of the SYQQ collars!
I grabbed the Rogue alum magnetic cuffs because magnets are extremely convenient. The only thing that I didn’t like was the lack in choice of colors. Basically, I want anything except black, with something bright like chrome , white etc being preferred. My power rack is black and I have trouble seeing a black item, like my TV remote which has a magnet attached as well, when it’s attached to the black power rack.
If you can find a pair of pre-Rogue OSO Elite collars they’re my favorite pair I own. They’re actually 1/2lb a piece, so they make the math a lot easier when you are totaling up the bar.
I have a clout fitness pair, used it less than 20 times, they don´t hold anything anymore, is actually dangerous (dropped the plates while doing biceps curls on a z-bar). Lock jaws are great, I have a regular 2" pair that is tight, and a 1.9" pair that came with one loose (doesn´t hold), so quality check is awful. BEST ones I have are the cheap hexagonal generic ones, tight as a nun.
Any recommendations for a collar that goes with Olympic dumbbells? I often find that the collars dig into my chest or legs (setting up) when I set up for dumbbell presses.
Ivanko is the tightest.. I wonder why it never gets mentioned lol. It has a twisting feature where it makes the plates tight on the bar making it rattle even less.
I have a training partner who only has cerebral palsy and only has one good hand to lock and unlock a collar. Can you please recommend the best one to use with one hand. Thanks.
Hi Coop. You mentioned the OSO magnetic collars due to their magnets, but Rogue have also brought out a magnetic version of the Aluminium collars. Slightly different shape, almost a cross between the original OSO collars (which I love) and the Rogue Aluminium collars. Might be good to review them, do they still hold as well, do the magnets scratch etc. Also, any experience with the cerakote versions and wear and tear with use compared to the bare version.
Great video as always. One thing you didn’t touch on that is a fairly big deal for me is the actual lever arm of the collar. I don’t care for the rogue OSO style because when taking them off that lever can flick you pretty hard, it also sticks out abit which kind of annoys me. The Lockjaw pro you recommended 2nd I prefer because they are more flush and no risk of getting flicked 😂
Yes, I was going to comment the same thing. I use my mighty oso collars from rogue way more than the aluminum ones. My thumbs have thanked me ever since
Why do you want your life to be tougher for no reason? Proving something? Also some of us have others using our home gym. Try introducing the gym to your teenage daughter with those things.
The Rogue magnetic collars snap open dangerously fast IMHO. I keep bruising my thumb when the spring fires the lever open. They’re awesome collars in many categories, but you have to be very mindful where your fingers are at the moment the lever snaps open.
I should, but I will say, I don’t like them. Used them a bit, they don’t hold well and are clunky to use. Will include in something in the future though to show what I mean.
Rogue HG 2.0 collars are better overall IMO. Just as sturdy and good at holding as the Rogue Aluminum collars, but $10 cheaper and it works on specialty bars too. I have both and prefer the HG 2.0 overall.
How long have you been using them? Are they still holding up with regular use? do they slide a bit these days or something? I did hear that those ones will work on like, the Rogue trap bars, just not as tight of a clamp. So I dunno if I'd wanna go that route. Wait I have a shitty collar behind me right now that I could test out! yea it slides super easily on the trap bar, compared to the Rogue Axel collars. The shitty collar isn't as secure on a regular sleeve as I'd like, but still solid enough. Edit: I just found out that the HG 2.0 is like a hybrid for olympic sleeves and specialty bars. Didn't know that. I thought it was a regular collar.
Bought the SYQQ collars. They don't work at all on my Ohio Powerbar. Clearly their manufacturing is off because the collars won't even fit on the barbell.

Any reason to get the Rogue ones with replaceable rubber? Seems like it would be better than replacing the whole collar once the rubber wears down a little, but maybe you'll wear out the lever or something else before the rubber and it won't matter.
