I just picked up a pair of the Rogue USA’s the other day after buying a new power rack from REP and couple barbells and full set of bumper plates. Seems everyone highly recommends them and I’m looking forward to getting everything and putting them to use (and not busting my fingers on the release lever!!!)
right on. Good choice. It's funny I still find myself always using my cheaper Rogue Plastic ones for whatever reason but the USA's are my overall favorite
I have the rogue USA aluminums. No complains other than the occasional finger snap 😂. Really they meet all of my needs but I can’t help being curious about the Eleiko collars.
Man, so much of the same for me. I have 2 pairs of HGs and always find myself reaching for those. I do have Rogue OSOs that I use for my loadable dumbbells because I like a really tight collar for those (and that’s what Rogue recommends), and I have spring collars because my wife also flat out refuses to mess with the other ones 😂😂😂
Helpful! Any suggestions for where to put the collar while changing plates? Add a hook to the rack? Glue a magnet to it? Just set it on the floor (and try not to step on it)?? Thanks!
I have popped my knuckle more than a few times on my Rogue USA collars so you had me laughing at "knuckle-busters". You should really try my favorite collar though, the PRX Talon Collars. They're just $20 and they're basically magnetic slap bracelets for your barbell. They're even easier to take on/off than the HG collars imho because it doesnt matter if you take the collar off the bar before or after you add plates to the sleeve. In other words, no more holding a plate in one hand while removing the collar with the other to add weight to the bar as you go from warm ups to working sets. They hold heavy weight just fine for deads, although I haven't tested them for Oly lifts.
@@MacStrengthCo the talon collars were a gift to me from a family member and i was honestly shocked by how much I like them. fwiw, i dont even use the "talon" part of the collar most of the time since i find the friction from the magnet/plastic is good enough to do the job.
I get DM's mostly from trainers saying they can't have those in the gym from clients snapping their fingers all day! ha ha.. honestly I avoid it but would hate to steer someone in the wrong direction.
I think it depends on what you do. I have the HGs and the USA aluminums. If you do CrossFit where you are dropping weights a lot then the USA aluminums are going to work a lot better. I would also recommend the USA collars if you have loadable dumbbells. For powerlifting movements I agree that HGs are fine.
Good review. I started with springs, then got some Boneyard OSO's. First time snap back is a real thing. Lol. Wonder if we could make a lever wrench, square tube to help open and close some lever arms?
The springs one is very good indeed and soooo cheap. There is this craziness about getting the very best collars for the money... Used that for years and was very happy before. Very good advice on your side. On my side, I had some ''cheap'' amazon collars that does a really great job, but I've found OSO collars on Marketplace, the model before Rogue bought them, and jeez... I've busted my pinky on that thing sooo many times. However, those are great, and I reach for those all the time as it's the only collar that I can deadlift that stick the plates to the bar. It never moves. For the axle bar, I have 4'' spring clamps from Home Depot that works so well. I've put a bit of Gorilla tape inside for the tightness and to protect my bars. They move a bit when I deadlift, but not that much. For the price, it crazy good.
For my personal choice the spring collars work well they are child safety for my point of view you need some strength just because I have 2 kids and they can easy remove the leaver from the rouge collars it happen in the past
About the spring collars. I bought some titan one (I know, I know... I don't do titan anymore and have a BBB complaint against them for some stuff)... Anyways, they didn't work on anything that I had after a couple of times. I don't know if it was weather temperature or what. I bought some collars Giant lifting and actually like them. They're super tight though, I use a workout towel when I unlatch. I don't really mind, hoping they ease after some usage though. I got their higher end ones. But yeah unfortunately not all springs collars are the same. That's also something I found out in some of the gyms that I went to before lol. Unfortunately my plates be moving at times. Going to look into the rogue stuff again. Thanks for the review.
Great review Rylan! Seriously nothing wrong with the old school spring collars, but I don't own them. I have the rogue usa aluminum and oso, I always go for usa ones because they just look so good. But I am always mindful when I remove them...yep got the knuckles snap a few times...but you learn! I would have thought you had an eleiko pair 😂 I guess you are the same dilemma as me...the shipping cost is ridiculous
I'm middle class so no Eleiko in the gym.. ha ha.. There's guys deadlifting 600lbs all day with spring clips so I'm pretty sure all of this is way over kill for us. ha ha.. cheers
@@MacStrengthCo good to know, i got a set of Proloc collars as the specialty bar collars have a slightly smaller diameter. therefore, my standard collars would slip off. while i don't hate the prolocs i don't love them either and am looking to get a new set.
cheap 10$ Springs collars used each time FOR LOCKED LOADS on sleeves is better than Eleiko or Rogue triskel competition collars (several hundreds Dollars) in your shoe cabinet (lol see im real life in my Neighbours homegym) . its same problematik than for policemen guns ! or bullet proof vest...CONVENIENCE EXCEED PERFORMANCE IN CHOICES PATAMETERS .....
Love the sign on that screen there, looks good
thanks. I made that custom.
I have a pretty baller garage gym but it’s pathetic by your gym’s standards. Bravo sir! 👏

YES! Rogue HG 2.0s are the only pair I have. They have held over 600lb on a deadlift bar pull without flinching. I love them! Great review man!
Thanks I appreciate that!

The finger snap is not fun when it happens! lol
Yeah, I got a few finger bruises before I developed the technique for putting them on and off.

I got the strength company collars for my loadable dumbbells and I love them
cool. thanks for sharing ill check them out.
Helpful! Any suggestions for where to put the collar while changing plates? Add a hook to the rack? Glue a magnet to it? Just set it on the floor (and try not to step on it)?? Thanks!
I slide them over my plate holders on the rack during changes.

I have proloc collars, work great on regular bars and it futureproofs you in case you end up buying axel/specialty bars.
That's a good idea..
I have Rogue aluminum and HG 2.0. I use them both and never had a problem with snapping fingers. Just hold one side of collar and flip the lever.
Same here. I haven’t snapped a finger since that first time.
I get DM's mostly from trainers saying they can't have those in the gym from clients snapping their fingers all day! ha ha.. honestly I avoid it but would hate to steer someone in the wrong direction.
I have some Lock-Jaw quick release aluminum collars and they're pretty good. I did bruise a knuckle once when I was in a hurry.
Ya it's something we often don't hear about the knuckle bustin! I'll check them out thanks for watching. cheers!
Rogue USA spring collars are good enough for me I even use them on my Rogue DB-15 LOADABLE DUMBBELLS.
Yup!
I really like my rogue USA. Haven't had the issue of beating up my fingers. I did just pick up a set of hg 2.0 axle collars for my arch nemesis bar.
Sweet! Can't go wrong there.

Great points! Thanks for sharing.
I use the Rogue mighty oso collars...no complaints.
Right on!
Very helpful! Just had a set of Amazon collars break so I’m looking for something better. I like the rogue HG style and they’re reasonably priced.
Good choice!

Appreciate the tips on the axle bar clamps and collar feedback. I was hoping for some replies like yours to get some feedback. cheers!

So are the Rogue HG's really just Lock-Jaw Pro's with their name on them?
They seem different to me but I've only used them separately not at the same time.
Thank you.
What plates are those with the grenades ? Those are legit
Rogue made some bumper plates with grenades on them back in 2009. They were Rogue HG bumpers from China. Pretty cool.

what would be our collar pick for specialty bars (like the axel bar)?
Any of the rogue ones will work fine

I highly dislike the spring ones only because I struggle to take them off.
right!
Eleiko collars? I love them
I don't have any Eleiko. :(
Collars for us collar workers (Blue, White, Black, Grey, Ect ect)
Commercial gyms only have spring collars because jerks steal the good ones! 🤦🏻♂️
My buddy literally packs his own in his bag! lol
